Almost three weeks after social media influencer Donna-Lee Donaldson was reported missing on July 13, the police have not given up on finding the body of the woman now presumed dead.

Her boyfriend – police Constable Noel Maitland – was on Tuesday charged with her murder.

Head of the JCF’s Crime and Security Portfolio Deputy Commissioner of Police Fitz Bailey said, based on investigation, the police believe Donaldson was killed between 4pm and 8pm on July 12 on July 13. He said that while investigators have not discovered the body there is forensic evidence that she is dead.

DCP Bailey said that the police have carried out several operations – including a visit to the Riverton City landfill in St Andrew – aimed at recovering Donaldson’s body.

The senior law enforcement officer said that while investigators suspect that Maitland may have acted alone in causing the alleged death of Donaldson, they believe that Maitland received help to dispose of the body.

Donaldson was reported missing on July 13 after she had gone to Maitland’s home.

Family and fans of Donaldson, who was the host of the reality show 876 Roommates, staged several protests days after her disappearance claiming a lack of urgency on the part of the police.

The police, with the help of INDECOM and the Institute of Forensic Science and Legal Health and oversight from the police command, made several breakthroughs in the case, and, by July 26, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and other stakeholders were brought in for a case review.

By July 27, Maitland was in police custody, taken before the parish court and remanded. On Tuesday, a charge of murder was laid against him.

Yadav’s 76 fires India to T20 series lead in West Indies Loop Jamaica

BASSETERRE, Saint Kitts (AP) — Suryakumar Yadav’s 44-ball 76 fired India past West Indies by seven wickets and to a 2-1 lead in their Twenty20 series on Tuesday.

Yadav opened and sprayed four sixes and eight boundaries around Warner Park. By the time he was out in the 15th over, India’s winning target was down to 30 runs from 33 balls with eight wickets in hand.

India strolled in with 165 for three and six balls to spare after West Indies put up 164 for five.

The series moves to Lauderhill, Florida, for the last two matches this weekend.

India captain Rohit Sharma retired hurt in the second over of the chase with a back spasm after dragging a boundary. Afterward, he said he should be OK by the weekend.

Yadav stayed focused and kept hitting at a rate faster than West Indies achieved. After the powerplay, India were a comparable 11 runs ahead. After 10 overs, India was 31 runs ahead.

“When Rohit went inside, it was important for someone to bat 15-17 overs,” Yadav said. “(That) was myself and I expressed myself. Just backed myself and enjoyed it.”

Yadav reached his fifth T20 50 by hitting spinner Akeal Hosein for a six over deep square leg.

His entertaining innings was finally undone while trying to sweep medium-pacer Dominic Drakes and top-edging to fine leg.

Rishabh Pant finished off proceedings with an unbeaten 33 from 26 balls.

Like India, West Indies’ total was built around one innings, Kyle Mayers’ 73 from 50 balls. Like Yadav, Mayers struck four sixes and eight boundaries.

Mayers didn’t have a like-minded partner, however.

Brandon King’s 20 off 20 and captain Nicholas Pooran’s 22 off 23 held back West Indies from accelerating.

India bowlers Hardik Pandya, one for 19, and Ravichandran Ashwin, 0 for 26, also slowed down the home side, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar got the key wicket of Mayers with a slower ball.

“How we bowled in the middle overs, that was crucial,” Sharma said. “They were about to get a quick partnership. We used the conditions and our variations really well. And then how we chased, it was quite clinical.”

West Indies thought it could defend 164 a day after bowling out India for 138, but Yadav disagreed.

Diogo Jota signs new long-term Liverpool contract Loop Jamaica

Black Immigrant Daily News

Diogo Jota has become the latest Liverpool forward to sign a new long-term contract at Anfield.

The Reds headed into the close-season with their superstar front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino entering the final 12 months of their respective deals.

Salah agreed new terms, while Mane left for Bayern Munich. Firmino has made clear his desire to stay but is yet to put pen to paper.

Now, in the week before the start of the new Premier League season, Jota has ensured he will remain a key part of this Liverpool team.

The Portugal international signed from Wolves in September 2020 and quickly established himself ahead of Firmino in the pecking order, although Mane often played through the centre last season.

This term, Jota will have further competition in the form of new signing Darwin Nunez, but the 25-year-old – who has scored 34 goals in 85 games for Liverpool – is up for the fight.

Reportedly now under contract until 2027, Jota told Liverpool’s official website: “Well, [I’m] really proud, I have to say.

“Obviously, since I arrived two years ago, I established myself as an important player in this team – that’s what I wanted from the beginning.

“Now, signing a new long-term deal, it’s obviously from the club’s perspective proof of the belief in myself as a player. For me, obviously it’s really good to establish I’ll be here for a while.

“So, the beginning of a new season, let’s do it.”

In his time at Liverpool, only Salah (60 goals, 22 assists) and Mane (39 goals, 10 assists) have scored more goals or registered more goal involvements (41 for Jota) than the striker.

Jota has impressively averaged a goal every 157 minutes in all competitions. He ranks fourth among Liverpool players over this period in that regard, behind Nunez (31), who netted on his debut on Saturday, the departed Takumi Minamino (133) and Salah (135).

Minister Confirms Resignation Of ‘Hardworking’ Chief Education Officer, Denies Acrimony Reports – St. Lucia Times News

Education Minister Shawn Edward Tuesday confirmed that Chief Education Officer Dr. Fiona Philip-Mayer had resigned with effect from August 15.

Edward told reporters that he had heard rumours like everyone else and acknowledged that there has been a lot of speculation and ‘political mischief’ regarding the resignation.

Asked what he meant by political mischief, the Minister said he had received communication regarding postings on some political pages insinuating that was acrimony among him, the departing Chief Education Officer, and persons at the Ministry.

“I can refute that categorically and say that the Chief and I enjoyed a wonderful working relationship. I am the Minister – I provide ministerial oversight. The chief is the senior most technical person in the Ministry of Education and the Chief’s powers and her responsibilities are clearly articulated in the Education Act in much the same way as the responsibilities and the powers of the Minister,” Edward asserted.

According to the Minister, Philip-Mayer was employed in 2019 and was not on a contract but the permanent establishment.

He described her as a hardworking individual who approached her job with a lot of commitment and passion.

And the Minister told reporters that based on the way she executed her mandate, Philip-Mayer was always willing to put the children of this country first.

“I want to profit the opportunity in my capacity as Minister of Education and also on behalf of the senior management personnel in the Ministry to wish her well in her future endeavours,” the Dennery North MP stated.

“There is not a problem. I mean it is not unheard of for professionals to demit office in Saint Lucia to take offers elsewhere. The Chief, from what I have been told, will be taking up a job overseas,” Edward told reporters.

In this regard, the Minister expressed confidence that wherever she goes Philip-Mayer will do well.
