Trainer Gary Subratie completed back-to-back Jamaica Derby victories at Caymanas Park in Saturday after the filly ATOMICA beat her St Leger conqueror, BLUE VINYL, into third place in the 12-furlong event.
ATOMICA grabbed the lead from BLUE VINYL passing the winning post for the first time and was never headed for the next 10 furlongs.
Cruising entering the backstretch, ATOMICA stayed clear of BLUE VINYL and had the colt off his legs on an easy lead at the top of the straight.
Asked to run by Dane Dawkins, ATOMICA’s pace had Raddesh Roman pushing BLUE VINYL off the home turn, leaving the colt winded and struggling to fend off BRINKS rallying for second along the rail.
Owned by Don Wehby and bred by Karl Samuda, ATOMICA ran out a nine-and-a-quarter length winner in 2:35.2.
Racing continues Sunday afternoon with the 10-furlong Jamaica Oaks as the feature event.

Detectives assigned to the Major Investigation Division are probing the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of two men and the injury of another man and a woman by unknown assailants in Manchester.
The victims have been identified as 34-year-old Adrian Nation otherwise called ‘Blue’, a chef of 14th Street, Greenvale, Manchester, and a man known as Lloyd Levy.
Reports are that at about 8:05 .m., a group of people were at a party when they were pounced upon by gunmen traveling in a motor car who opened fire hitting them.
The police were alerted and all four people were taken to the hospital where Nation and Levy were pronounced dead and the others were admitted for treatment.

The Independence Day Grand Gala is now underway at the National Stadium with Jamaicans from all across the island trying to settle in to witness activities that are now set to unfold over the next few hours.
Approximately 30,000 spectators were expected to attend the event, which is part of Jamaica’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations but based on early reports the stadium is now filled to capacity.
Despite this development, there is still a large number of eager people on the outside still trying to get in.
The development has left scores of people fuming.
The cultural showcase began at 6:00 pm and over the next few hours will feature presentations in music, drama, song and dance, by costumed and uniformed groups alongside popular local artistes.

Jamaica’s junior athletes led the country to second place on the medal table of the World Under-20 Championships, which ended in Cali, Colombia on Saturday.
Jamaica ended the six-day championships with 16 medals, their best-ever medal haul. The 16 medals is the most of any country at these championships. However, the winner is determined by the gold medal tally and the USA finished with more gold to top the table.
The USA won seven gold with Jamaica securing six. In addition to the seven gold, the USA won four silver and four bronze for a medal haul of 15, one less than Jamaica.
Jamaica secured seven silver and three bronze to add to the six gold medals.
Ethiopia round out the top three with six gold medals, the same as Jamaica but they had five silver and a bronze for a medal haul of 12.
Jamaica finished the final day with a flourish by winning four medals – a gold and three silver.
The impressive Kerrica Hill accounted for the gold medal. She secured an easy victory in the 100m hurdles with her teammate Alexis James copping the silver.
Hill secured the victory in a new championships record of 12.77 seconds while James clocked a personal best of 12.87.
Hungary’s Anna Toth won the bronze in a national U20 record of 13 seconds flat.
Both the men’s and women’s 4x400m relay teams also won silver medals behind the USA.

Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre has congratulated the St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party (SNKLP) on its election to office, declaring that the people’s will brought about the administration change.
The SKNLP won six of the eleven contested seats on the twin Island federation, according to preliminary results after the polls closed on Friday night.
“On behalf of the people and the Government of Saint Lucia, I wish to extend congratulations to Prime Minister-Elect, Dr. Terrance Drew and the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party on their electoral victory,” Prime Minister Pierre wrote on Facebook.
“You are called to serve all of the people. Let good governance be the mantra by which you lead,” Pierre declared.

Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris led the three-party Team Unity coalition into the polls.
Harris called the election three years before the constitutional deadline after his cabinet colleagues filed a no-confidence motion against him.
“I congratulate Prime Minister-elect, Dr. Terrance Drew of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party and extend best wishes to him on his new journey of leadership of our beloved Federation,” the outgoing PM said in a statement.
There were 11 seats at stake in the 15-member Parliament with the Governor General nominating the other four seats.
A preliminary statement from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) observer mission to the St. Kitts and Nevis elections said it appeared that the results of the 5 August 2022 General Elections reflect the will of the people of the Federation.

Twenty-seven-year-old Mario Hinds otherwise called ‘Panka’, of Pink Lane in Kingston 14 has been arrested and charged with robbery with aggravation and illegal possession of firearm following an incident on Friday, July 29.
Reports from the Elletson Road police are that at about 7:25 pm, the complainant was walking home along with a young child when a silver motor car with Hinds and three others aboard drove up behind her and stopped.
Hinds and two other men alighted from the car, one armed with a firearm and they proceeded to rob the complainant of her knapsack containing an LG A20 Cell phone valued twenty thousand Jamaican dollars, fifty thousand Jamaican dollars, a cheque in the complainant’s name to be cashed for thirty-nine thousand Jamaican dollars, one Amazon tablet, one blood pressure machine valued at nine thousand Jamaican dollars), blood sugar machine valued at two thousand Jamaican dollars, one pill cutter valued five hundred Jamaican dollars, one National Commercial Bank (NCB) card, and her driver’s license.
The men then made good their escape in the area in the said motor car.
The police acting on information subsequently arrested Hinds and the cell phone and tablet found in his possession. Hinds was positively identified to the police and was charged on Friday, August 05. His court date is being finalised.

Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls on Saturday qualified for a Commonwealth Games final for the first time in their history after recording a 67-51 victory over New Zealand in their semifinal fixture in Birmingham, England.
The Sunshine Girls took control defensively from the outset and held a 36-22 half-time lead over the Silver Ferns. Shamera Sterling and Latanya Wilson set the tone in the circle, with Jodi-Ann Ward and Nicole Dixon-Rochester complementing them.
Captain and goal shooter Jhaniele Fowler led the scoring with 54 goals from 54 attempts, before being rested in the final minutes.
Goal attack Shanice Beckford was also perfect with 10 from 10 attempts.
Jamaica will face world number one Australia in the final on Sunday.
It will be the second match between Australia and Jamaica at the Games. On Thursday the Sunshine Girls pulled off an upset 57-55 victory in their final Pool A game.
In a repeat of the gold medal match from four years ago when England won, Australia this time came out on top, 60-51, to book their spot in the final.
The Aussies seized the game from start and never relinquished their grip, leaving England to now tackle New Zealand for bronze on Sunday.
