A Fisherman from Calliaqua, Nelson McGuire has benefitted from the newly launched Fleet Expansion Program.

Mr. McGuire received a Yamaha eighty-five horsepower boat engine valued at twenty-seven thousand, nine hundred dollars ($27,900).

Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Saboto Caesar was present at the hand-over ceremony at the Fisheries Conference Room.

He said with the increased demand for fish, it is critical to guarantee that fishermen’s vessels are fully equipped to harness the available resources.

Meanwhile, Fisherman Nelson McGuire thanked the Ministry and the Kingstown Cooperative Credit Union, for the establishment of the Fleet Expansion Program.

The Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with the Kingstown Cooperative Credit Union, launched the Fleet Expansion Programme in June 2022.

The program is aimed at improving the fishing vessels in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, allowing fisheries stakeholders to better capitalize on the opportunities given by the blue economy.

Minister of Education, Curtis King has announced the establishment of an Agency or Ministry to focus mainly on Tertiary and Technical and Vocational Education.

The Minister was presenting the Education Miscellaneous Amendment Bill, which was passed in Parliament on Monday.

He said given the broad scope of the Ministry of Education, the resources will soon be inadequate to fully address the issues relating higher education.

The Ministry of Culture will host a grand event this afternoon at Heritage Square in Kingstown to officially launch the Emancipation Month of activities.

Cultural Officer, Maxine Browne told NBC News, today’s launch is taking place throughout the day and the highlight will be a Parade and Cultural Rally commencing at 3:00pm.

Miss Browne said this afternoon’s program will feature a number addresses from Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves along with other Ministers of Government along with a grand showcase of Vincentian culture.

Miss Browne said there will be a wide range of performances from religious and other cultural organizations.

She said they will also be honoring three cultural stalwarts and she is encouraging members of the public to support today’s launch of the Emancipation Month of activities.

Gilbert est l’un de ses passionnés, pour qui la vie s’arrête à chaque Tour des yoles. Ce dimanche au Vauclin, le Schœlchérois de 63 ans avait installé un véritable campement pour suivre le départ et l’arrivée de la yole UFR)/Chanflor qu’il soutient “depuis toujours”. Il compte bien être présent à chaque étape, n’hésitant pas, pour la peine, à se glisser dans la peau d’un campeur averti. 

De ce Tour de Martinique, Gilbert n’en perdra pas une miette. En fin de matinée ce dimanche au Vauclin, nous trouvons le sexagénaire installé à l’extrémité de la plage du bourg, lieu de départ et d’arrivée du prologue. Découvrir les richesses patrimoniales de l’île, tout en pratiquant le créole, c’était l’objectif du rallye découverte organisé dernièrement au Domaine d’Emeraude. Petits et grands ont visiblement apprécié ce jeu en pleine nature.

Dans le cadre de son programme des grandes vacances, le Parc naturel de Martinique, en partenariat avec l’association Sanblaj Pou Fè Kréyol Lékol, proposait au public, de découvrir autrement le patrimoine, avec un rallye découverte exclusivement en créole. Vauclin

Un vibrant hommage a été rendu récemment, au musicien disparu Barrel Coppet. La municipalité et la CTM ont choisi qu’un espace situé à proximité de l’hôtel de ville, dans le jardin public, porte désormais le nom du célèbre clarinettiste, originaire du Vauclin.

Barrel Coppet de son vrai nom Anatole Coppet, a tiré sa révérence en octobre 2009, il avait 89 ans. Né au Vauclin, ce musicien hors pair a marqué son époque, rien ne pourrait justifier qu’il soit oublié. De son vivant, la municipalité du Vauclin avait inauguré une rue portant son nom, ainsi que celui de son frère Honoré. Vendredi, le centre Emma-Ventura a rendu hommage à 9 résidents (7 femmes et 2 hommes), âgés de 100 à 106 ans. La manifestation a notamment été marquée par un défilé de costumes d’antan et une animation musicale assurée par Kali.

On n’a pas tous les jours 100 ans ! Vendredi dernier, c’était jour de fête au restaurant du centre Emma-Ventura, à Fort-de-France. La structure a mis à l’honneur 9 résidents (7 femmes et 2 hommes) âgés de 100 à 106 ans.
