THA Chief Secretary Farley Augustine is yet to make a statement on Watson Duke’s future role as Deputy Chief Secretary.

At the post-Executive Council media briefing last Thursday, Augustine said he was reviewing Duke’s responsibilities and a decision would be announced in a media release over the weekend.

On that occasion, he accused Duke, political leader of the Progressive Democratic Patriots, of shirking several of his responsibilities as Deputy Chief Secretary.

Augustine also said Duke may be relieved of his responsibilities altogether.

“I want to make it very publicly clear that immediately post-this press briefing, a review of the DCS’ portfolio and the areas assigned to him will be done and I assure you that before the end of the weekend you will get some press release indicating what the decision is,” he had told reporters.

This has not materialised.

Augustine’s review of the Deputy Chief Secretary’s functions came in the wake of Duke’s claim that the THA had abandoned some 27 members of the Roxborough Folk Performers who had gone to New York to perform at several events during Labor Day celebrations.

CPL 2022: Barbados Royals extend unbeaten start with win Loop Barbados

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Barbados News

The Barbados Royals secured their fifth straight victory of the 2022 Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) season with a win over Jamaica Tallawahs by eight wickets.

The Barbados Royals won the toss and chose to field, getting off to a dream start by removing opener Brandon King for a duck.

However, once again it was captain Rovman Powell who took charge for the Tallawahs, scoring his second successive half-century to take his side to 153/7 after 20 overs.

In their chase, Barbados Royals bounced back after the early dismissal of Kyle Mayers with their South African contingent of Quinton de Kock, Corbin Bosch and captain David Miller combining across the innings to guide the side to victory by eight wickets.

Jamaica Tallawahs lost King in the first over as Mayers demonstrated his ability with the ball. Amir Jangoo and Powell formed a 57-run partnership that was supported by some power-hitting later on from Raymon Reifer and Fabian Allen.

West Indies fast bowler Obed McCoy was the stand-out bowler for the Royals, taking 3 wickets for 24 runs as the Tallawahs finished on 153/7.

Barbados Royals were in early trouble in their chase as opener Mayers was dismissed in the second over, but a magnificent partnership of 117 runs between de Kock and Bosch stifled the Tallawah bowlers. Once Bosch lost his wicket, Miller came in and scored 16 runs off 8 balls in a nervy finish to take his side across the line with just one ball to spare.

The win means Barbados Royals maintain their unbeaten start to the season and retain their spot at the top of the league table, while Jamaica Tallawahs remain second.

Scores in the match: Barbados Royals 157/2 (de Kock 64*, Bosch 56 ; Green 1/24, Amir 1/26) beat Jamaica Tallawahs 156/8 (Powell 52, Reifer 41; McCoy 3/24, Holder 2/24) by 8 wickets

NHC monitoring two tropical waves in the Atlantic Ocean Loop Barbados

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Barbados News

Two tropical waves located in the Atlantic Ocean have grabbed the attention of the US National Hurricane Centre (NHC).

The wave that is expected to reach the Caribbean first is located in the Central Atlantic Ocean between Africa and the Windward Islands.

NHC said the wave is producing a large area of disorganised showers and thunderstorms.

“Some slow development of this system is possible over the next several days while it moves generally westward to west-north-westward over the central tropical Atlantic and approaches the Windward Islands by the end of the week,” NHC said.

Forecasters have given the wave a 20 per cent chance to develop into a tropical cyclone over the next five days.

The second tropical wave, which is located just off the west coast of Africa, is also an area of disorganised showers and thunderstorms.

“Environmental conditions appear only marginally favourable, and any development of this wave should be slow to occur while it moves westward or west-north-westward across the eastern tropical Atlantic through the end of the week,” NHC stated.

The wave has also been given a 20 per cent chance to develop into a tropical cyclone this week.
