A$AP Rocky Calls Former Friend Relli’s Lawsuit Over Shooting ‘Extortion’

A$AP Rocky has responded to his former friend’s lawsuit where he accuses him of being jealous and trying to extort him over his shooting claims.

According to legal docs, Rocky’s lawyer Joe Tacopina says that the artist is a “failed shakedown” attempt by A$AP Relli, whom they accuse of fabricating the shooting allegation because he is jealous of his former friend. A$AP Rocky, born Rakim Mayers, is separately facing criminal charges for the alleged shooting that took place in November 2021 in Hollywood. Relli is separately suing the rapper for damages for assault, battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress using boilerplate language.

“Rocky didn’t shoot him by any stretch,” Tacopina was quoted by Rolling Stone as he referred to the criminal case as “just a plain and blatant classic attempt at extortion.”

According to Tacopina, Relli, whose real name is Terell Ephron, allegedly physically attacked Rocky at a face-to-face meeting. The lawyer claims that the two men were at odds with Relli “badgering” Rocky for money before the incident. The lawyer says that Relli’s lawsuit is based on a fabricated shooting claim even though police say that they have CCTV footage showing Rocky during the incident and running away after.

A$AP Rocky’s legal team filed their defense on Thursday as they responded to the civil suit where he denied all of Relli’s claims.

“Answering defendant generally denies each and every allegation of the complaint, and specifically denies that plaintiff has been damaged in any amount or in any way as a result of any act or omission of answering defendant,” the reply filed in the Los Angeles County Superior Court read.

A$AP Rocky’s reply outlines several defenses in tort that he relies on, including contributory negligence, where he says that Relli’s injuries “were caused solely, directly and proximately by the negligent and/or intentional acts or omissions” of others and that Relli himself “failed to exercise reasonable care to avoid the consequences of harm.”

ASAP Rocky’s response contradicts what Relli’s lawsuit claims which is that Rocky had asked him to meet up at the Hollywood location on November 6, 2021, and he started the verbal altercation before Rocky allegedly pulled out a semiautomatic handgun and fired several shots in Relli’s direction. Relli is represented by attorneys Jamal Tooson and Brian Hurwitz.

In the meantime, Rocky pleaded not guilty plea to two counts of using a semiautomatic firearm to assault Relli. He is currently out on a $550,000 bond. If convicted of the criminal offense, he may face up to nine years in prison.

At the time of the “Fashion Filla” rapper’s arrest back in May this year, he was awaiting the birth of his baby boy, whom he shares with billionaire businesswoman Rihanna.

What the constitution says about removing the Speaker Loop Cayman Islands

The recent news about the Speaker of Parliament stepping down from his post has renewed interest in the constitution of the Cayman Islands. In particular, members of the public are interested in knowing what rules govern the appointment and removal of the Speaker. Some people have also suggested that, notwithstanding that these rules are in place, the people should insist on further constitutional amendments to spell out additional circumstances resulting in the vacation of the office of the Speaker.

Appointment

Before getting to the proposed amendments, it is important to look at how things currently stand.

Presently, the Speaker is appointed after a general election by of a majority vote of elected members of the Parliament. This person can come from inside or outside Parliament.

Removal

For the removal of the Speaker, the following options exist:

The Speaker may submit a resignation letter to ParliamentThe Speaker may become a minister, in which case, the Speaker shall no longer act as SpeakerElected members of Parliament may call a special meeting to pass a vote of no confidence in the Speaker (this requires the votes of two-thirds of the elected members of Parliament)

Alternatively, the Speaker will be removed if the Parliament is dissolved.

Proposed amendments

In addition to these removal rules, some members of the public have suggested that the regulations be enhanced to allow voters to trigger a recall vote and to require the immediate vacation of office for any member of Parliament, including the Speaker, in the event of a conviction for a serious crime.

These changes, however, would require voters to initiate a people’s referendum to amend the constitution or an order in council would need to be passed in the UK.

Wait and see

Until any of these steps are taken, members of members of the public will remain in a “wait-and-see” mode (well, at least for the rest of this weekend).

New Reggae Boyz coach Hallgrimsson takes 2 backroom staff to Jamaica Loop Jamaica

Iceland’s Heimir Hallgrimsson, who was unveiled as the new Reggae Boyz’ head coach on Friday, will take two key members of his backroom staff with him to Jamaica.

The backroom staff who will be assisting Hallgrimsson in Jamaica are Swedish coach John Wall and Icelander Gudmundur Hreidarsson, who replaces Warren Barrett as goalkeeping coach.

The 41-year-old Wall, who is a UEFA elite coach and has a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Science, will take the role of assistant coach.

Newly appointed head coach of the Reggae Boyz Iceland’s Heimir Hallgr?msson addresses a press conference at The Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in Kingston on Friday, September 16, 2022. (PHOTO: Marlon Reid).

“He was a tactical coach for the Finnish national team. He is good in players development and useful in the transition from helping the local players to get to a high standard,” said Hallgrimsson. “He is a technology guru, a part-owner of a software company, so he is really good in the technology now a big thing in football today.”

The 61-year-old Hreidarsson is a retired Icelandic football goalkeeper and later manager.

“I have worked with Gudmundur for seven years with the national team. In my opinion, he is one of the best ones (goalkeeping coach) I have seen,” said Hallgrimsson. “He has the highest education possible for goalkeeper coaches in Europe. He is great at developing goalkeepers and he has been in coaching education in Iceland for 20 years plus.

All three of us have work in coaching education. And will like to share with Jamaican all we know.”

Hallgrimsson replaced Paul Hall, who quit in June after Concacaf Nations League matches against Mexico and Suriname. Hall was hired after Theodore Whitmore was fired in December, eight matches into World Cup qualifying.

Hallgrimsson, who guided Iceland to FIFA World Cup qualification in 2018, signed a four-year deal with the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), which take him through the next FIFA World Cup qualifying cycle.

The 55-year-old dentist was on the coaching staff of Iceland’s national team from 2013-18. A former defender, he coached Qatar’s Al-Arabi from 2018-21.

Declaring that he chose to take the Jamaica project because of the great potential for success, Hallgrimsson was under no illusions regarding the magnitude of the undertaking.

“When I was looking for projects to coach, I was really selective. It was not about money, it was about the project and for me, it was a perfect match to come now to Jamaica and to try to fix what is broken. There are some obstacles we have to cross and we have to improve some big things but for me, it was a perfect match. I see so much potential here and if I compare this one to the Icelandic project I think the potential is much more than in Iceland,” he said.

That said, Hallgrimsson is also aware that he does not have much time to right the many wrongs of Jamaica’s football.

“We have a year until we start playoffs (World Cup qualification) the group stage of the World Cup so we have to start quickly and try to stabilize the Jamaica national team. The second job is assisting in the improvement of football here in Jamaica through coaching education of elite players and we are happy to be a part of an assist in that,” he said.

“While doing this, we all know that in every match there is pressure to win. There is an expectation to win and no coach will survive in his job without winning football matches. So two different things, first to develop talent and the second to improve the national team and I think both of these projects can support each other.”

JFF president Michael Ricketts described the signing of Hallgrimsson as the ushering in of a new era that will see the controversy-plagued administration change direction.

“The federation has been making important internal changes that will position the federation to fully support what we will announce today as well as a number of other national activities,” he said.

Hallgrimsson’s first match in charge will be on September 27 when Jamaica play Argentina in an international friendly at the Red Bull Arena in New Jersey, USA.
