Members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force and law enforcement agents from overseas seized a large quantity of cocaine at the Ian Fleming International Airport in St Mary.

The cocaine, valued at J$3.8 billion, was seized on Friday, September 23.

No one was arrested over the seizure.

The operation was carried out between 2 o’clock in the afternoon and 8 o’clock in the evening by members of the Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch, Narcotics Division and law enforcement agents from the US.

According to Deputy Commission of Police Fitz Bailey, the cocaine was destined for Canada.

“The objective of the operation was to intercept and seize cocaine destined for Canada. During the operation some 500.2 kg of cocaine or 1100.5 pounds was seized and taken to a police facility for processing,” Bailey said. “The value of the cocaine is estimated to be over US$25 million.”

WCB Fatal Accident Update: Teacher in custody for speeding

The Guyana Police Force said that the driver of the second vehicle involved in this morning’s collision on the West Coast Berbice Public Road that left a taxi driver dead has been taken into custody.

At about 04:30h today, Salim Yusuf, a 30-year-old taxi driver of Bennett Dam, D’Edward Village, WCB, was killed on impact after his motorcar (#PTT 9357) collided with another car (#PYY 3603) on the D’Edward Public Road.

Police say that the #PYY 3603 was being driven by Colin Bynoe, a 33-year-old teacher of Kildonan Village, Corentyne, Berbice, who was reportedly speeding.

“Enquiries disclosed that motor vehicle #PTT 9357 was proceeding west along the southern drive lane on the said road while motor vehicle #PYY 3603 was proceeding east along the northern drive lane at a fast rate. The driver of motor car #PYY 3603 lost control and collided into the right side of motor car #PTT 9357 on the southern drive lane,” the police said.

As a result of the collision, both vehicles received extensive damage.

Yusuf was severely injured and was taken out of his wrecked car in an unconscious condition by public-spirited citizens. He was rushed to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

His body was taken to Anthony’s Funeral Home awaiting a Post Mortem Examination.

Meanwhile, investigators have since obtained CCTV footage of the area.

Additionally, Bynoe is currently in custody assisting with the ongoing investigation.

The Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) Timothy N. J. Antoine has advised that there are no immediate plans to make changes to the EC polymer notes and coins following the death of Queen Elizabeth the II.

Responding to a question during a live interview ‘Conversation with the Governor’ in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Governor Antoine said “nothing happens right now.”

He further explained that there are three to four years of inventory or stock of EC polymer notes.

The Governor however noted that the passing of the Queen raises the question as to ‘what happens next?’ He said a conversation needs to take place where the region needs to decide ‘where we want to take our currency.’

Governor Antoine acknowledged that there are people who feel that “its time to move in a different direction and rather than continuing with the British Sovereign, that we should be looking at using our own landmarks and our own heroes.”

The Governor said that he looks forward to the conversation, noting that in time, a determination will be made.

NBA YoungBoy Affiliate D Dawg Arrested After Passenger Died In Police Chase

NBA YoungBoy’s close friends and affiliates, D Dawg, has been arrested for the death of another person who was accidentally killed during a chase to elude police.

D Dawg, whose real name is Derian Bailey, was arrested on Wednesday (September 21). The deceased person was a passenger who was in Bailey’s car when it crashed while fleeing from police during a high-speed chase. The Baton Rouge rapper is reportedly in hospital as he was also injured during the accident.

Local news reports say that he has been charged with manslaughter and resisting a police officer. It’s expected that there could be other charges flowing from the incident as police also found a ski mask and weapons in the car.

This is not D Dawg’s first brush with the law. The upcoming rapper at the time of the high-speed chase was out on bond on an unrelated incident. According to the WBRZ, D Dawg’s criminal history span as far back as 2012, when he was just 14 years old and was arrested for the murder of a victim named Derrick Marioneaux. The victim was killed in the vicinity of Wyandotte Street in Baton Rouge.

The victim’s family claimed that the then 14-year-old and two others robbed the victim, who was with his wife and daughter. Dawg had pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. He was released after spending eight years.

Shortly after his release from jail, he was again linked to another crime- attempted murder allegedly committed in 2018. However, he was only arrested in early September for that incident.

Dawg was granted bail in the sum of $300,000 bond while he awaited his trial.

D Dawg and YoungBoy share a close friendship. On his Instagram page, D Dawg would often share images and videos of him and YoungBoy as well as their families and children co-mingling.

“Sis sh*t forever,” he had captioned a photo of YB and one of his sons.

D Dawg’s new bond for his latest arrest is set at $19.7 million.

Il a quitté la scène à 81 ans – DR

Ancienne vedette de la chaine de télévision Canal 10, homme politique et chanteur, le Basse-Terrien a tiré sa révérence à 81 ans. Aimé ou détesté, il n’a jamais laissé indifférent. 

Homme très controversé l’artiste, le politique, l’animateur télé et radio, Ibo Simon est  décédé ce samedi, à 81 ans, des suites d’une longue maladie. On l’a d’abord connu en tant que chanteur. L’un de ses titres sorti en 1979 Même si  je dois mourir un jour” a eu un énorme succès. Devenu animateur sur la télé Canal 10, il a gagné en popularité. Ses propos divisaient. Il avait ses partisans –les Ibobiens comme il les appelait–  qui appréciaient ses mots outranciers et souvent racistes. Les Haïtiens, les Dominicains étaient à ses yeux les ennemis de la Guadeloupe et profitaient des largesses du pays. Il était d’ailleurs soutenu par feu Raymond Viviès, un homme politique haut en couleur. A cette époque, il devient  une véritable vedette et décide de se lancer  en politique avec un certain succès. Il est devenu conseiller municipal et a même été élu en 1995, conseiller régional. En 2001, il a été condamné par la justice pour incitation à la haine raciale et a été privé de ses droits civiques. Petit à petit, ses déboires personnels – il avait été accusé d’attouchement sexuel par une femme qu’il avait pris en stop – et la maladie l’ont éloigné  de la scène publique.

Alors que ce samedi est jour de fête nationale en Guinée-Bissau, son équipe affronte la Sélection de Martinique ce soir au stade Pierre-Aliker de Dillon.

Le temps semble jouer en faveur de la Ligue. L’époque durant laquelle l’instance mettait les bouchées doubles pour boucler les compétitions serait révolue. En effet, elle se permet de repousser l’ouverture du championnat de Régional 1 pour donner la primeur à un match amical de la sélection, en mettant à profit la trêve internationale pour rencontrer la Guinée-Bissau. Une nation classée 115e à la Fifa. ” Au départ, ce n’est pas cet adversaire qui était prévu”, explique Marc Collat. “Nous devions jouer deux matches contre Sainte-Lucie, mais cette dernière a déclaré forfait.” Forfait qui a entraîné un changement par rapport à ce qu’avait prévu l’homme fort du Club Martinique.

” L’objectif était de faire un stage avec les joueurs espoirs, pour évaluer les forces vives, et voir ceux qui pourraient éventuellement intégrer la sélection A. Mais cela nous a obligé à un changement par rapport à l’adversité, on a dû apporter des modifications par rapport au groupe.”

Néanmoins, cette rencontre demeurera l’occasion pour chacun de se montrer. ” Ce match est important pour de nombreux joueurs. On parle beaucoup du niveau du football martiniquais, certains s’interrogent sur le fait de faire venir ou pas des joueurs de l’extérieur, ce sera l’occasion d’avoir quelques indications ” annonce Marc Collat. Tout en ajoutant : ” Ce match se déroule en période de trêve internationale. Mais ce ne sera pas le cas pour tout le monde puisque le championnat de National se poursuivra en France, et dans d’autres pays du continent européen on jouera la coupe “.

A la disponibilité des joueurs, s’est aussi posée la question des moyens financier. 

Sur les trois matches disputés en Martinique, le sélectionneur compte pour l’instant une victoire (Barbade, 3-1) et un nul (Panama, 0-0).

bpTT’s Cypre project gets green light

It’s a green light for bpTT’s Cypre offshore gas project.

The energy giant announced plans for its third subsea development in a release on Friday.

It said the decision stemmed from recent meetings the Prime Minister had in London when he met bp CEO Bernard Looney and incoming bpTT David Campbell where they discussed accelerating the project’s sanction.

The announcement follows reports that bpTT had renewed its gas supply contract with the NGC at a signing ceremony in Port of Spain on Friday. The gas supply negotiations were also addressed by Dr Rowley during the London talks earlier this month.

In the release Campbell said, “The go-ahead for the Cypre development is great news for TT and for bpTT, as it demonstrates our continued commitment to investing in our business here. Today’s announcement is a great reflection of our strategy in action – efficiently developing the resources in our existing acreage so we can bring new gas to the market faster, all without increasing operating emissions.”

Cypre will include seven wells and subsea trees tied back into bpTT’s existing Juniper platform via two new 14-kilometre flexible flowlines. Drilling is due to commence in 2023 and first gas from the facility is expected in 2025.

The Cypre gas field is located 78 kilometres off the southeast coast of Trinidad within the East Mayaro Block, in water depth of approximately 80 metres. At peak the development is expected to deliver average gas production of 250-300 mmscfd. Production from Cypre will go towards satisfying bpTT’s existing gas supply commitments.

The Cypre development forms part of bpTT’s strategy of maximising production from existing infrastructure, identifying innovative solutions to bring gas to the market faster without adding operating emissions.

This subsea development will capitalise on the existing subsea enabling infrastructure at Juniper allowing gas to be brought to market in a shorter time than a normally unmanned installation development.

The new development will access power from Juniper, eliminating the need for additional power generation which allows production to be added without increasing bpTT’s operating emissions.

Another murder in Tobago as Crown Point man chopped to death

Crime scene officers at Randoo Lane in Cocorite following the double murder. –

Tobago has recorded its third murder in as many days – this time a fatal chopping.

The victim has been identified as Kenrick James, 65, of Store Bay Local Road, Crown Point.

Police said around 7.30 am on Saturday, James got into an argument with a man whom he knew at his home. The men then got into a fight and James was chopped to death.

DMO Kumar visited the scene and pronounced James dead.

Among the police officers who responded were Sgts Guy, Wilson, Daniel-Kerr and PCs Lakhan and Robley of the Crown Point Police Station.

Tobago police are also continuing investigations into two recent murders.

Jonathan Baptiste, 28, of Gerald Graham Road, Union Village, was shot by a man at Lal’s carpark, Dutch Fort, Scarborough, around 10.30 pm on September 22. He subsequently died at hospital.

And on September 21, Trinidad and Tobago Inter-Island Transportation Company employee Emero Baynes was gunned down while driving his car along Belmont Farm Road, Mason Hall.

Investigations into all three killings are continuing.
