Police asking for public’s assistance in identifying victim

The body of a young male was discovered at Long Bay, St Philip following a shooting incident on Friday night.

According to police, around 9:58 pm lawmen responded to reports of gun shots in the area.

When officers arrived at the scene, the man was found with a wound at the back of his head in a bushy area next to a residence. He was pronounced dead by a medical doctor.

The Barbados Police Service is appealing to members of the public for assistance in identifying this male.

If you have witnesses or have knowledge of this incident, call the District ‘C’ Station at 416-8200 or 8204, Police Emergency 211, Crime Stoppers at 1800-TIPS (8477) or the nearest Police Station.

Il a quitté la scène à 81 ans – DR

Ancienne vedette de Canal 10, homme politique et chanteur, le Basse-Terrien a tiré sa révérence à 81 ans. Aimé ou détesté, il n’a jamais laissé indifférent. 

Homme très controversé l’artiste, le politique, l’animateur télé et radio, Ibo Simon est  décédé ce samedi, à 81 ans, des suites d’une longue maladie. On l’a d’abord connu en tant que chanteur. L’un de ses titres sorti en 1979 Même si  je dois mourir un jour” a eu un énorme succès. Devenu animateur sur la télé Canal 10, il a gagné en popularité. Ses propos divisaient. Il avait ses partisans –les Ibobiens comme il les appelait–  qui appréciaient ses mots outranciers et souvent racistes. Les Haïtiens, les Dominicains étaient à ses yeux les ennemis de la Guadeloupe et profitaient des largesses du pays. Il était d’ailleurs soutenu par feu Raymond Viviès, un homme politique haut en couleur. A cette époque, il devient  une véritable vedette et décide de se lancer  en politique avec un certain succès. Il est devenu conseiller municipal et a même été élu en 1995, conseiller régional. En 2001, il a été condamné par la justice pour incitation à la haine raciale et a été privé de ses droits civiques. Petit à petit, ses déboires personnels – il avait été accusé d’attouchement sexuel par une femme qu’il avait pris en stop – et la maladie l’ont éloigné  de la scène publique.

Construction worker takes away gun from attacker before being shot

A 25-year-old construction worker was able to take away one of his attackers’ guns before being shot in St Ann’s on Friday afternoon.

Police said the man was at his jobsite on Hutton Road, St Ann’s at around 1.10 pm when two gunmen held him up.

Investigators said the construction worker fought with one of the bandits and wrestled away his gun before being shot.

His co-workers took the injured man to the hospital where he was treated.

Police from the Port of Spain Task Force visited the man at the hospital and retrieved the gun.

Port of Spain police are continuing enquiries.

The body of a man was found shortly after gunshots were heard in St Barbs, Laventille early on Saturday morning.

Police said they received a report of gunshots at St John Trace, St Barbs Road, Laventille, at around 2 am and later found the body of a man with gunshot wounds.

Police said residents in the area identified the man only as Boysie.

Police from the Belmont CID and the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region I visited the scene with a district medical officer.

Cops arrest two, issue 55 tickets in Port of Spain operations

Two men were arrested and 55 traffic tickets issued during a a series of police exercises in downtown Port of Spain on Friday afternoon.

The exercises began at around 2 pm and ended at 7 pm.

The men were arrested for using obscene language and driving without a driver’s permit.

The exercise was led by ACP Collis Hazel with supervision of acting Snr Supt Roger Alexander with field operations under acting Insp Knott, Sgt Alexander and Cpls Sookhoo, Williams and St Bernard.

CARICOM is launching a major regional platform to facilitate intra-regional trade in goods and agricultural products.

This CARICOM Marketplace dubbed CIMSUPRO (CARICOM Market Place and Suspension Procedure) will register suppliers and buyers of Caribbean Community (CARICOM) originating goods.

The Chair of CARICOM, the President of Suriname, His Excellency Chandrikapersad Santokhi will give remarks and a ‘call-to-action’ before launching the online portal on Monday, 26 September 2022 at 10 am ECT or 11 am Suriname time.

A brief launching ceremony will be held online and presentations are also expected from the CARICOM Secretary-General, Dr. Carla Barnett; the Suriname Minister of Economic Affairs, Entrepreneurship and Technological Innovation, Hon Rishma N. Kuldipsingh and a representative from the private sector.

CIMSUPRO when populated will create a ‘Marketplace’ that will allow regional buyers to find sellers of regionally produced goods, thereby creating the conditions for direct contact between parties.

The online platform also has the potential for improving the efficiency of the application process for a suspension of the Common External Tariff (CET).

CARICOM Trade Ministers had approved a proposal from the government of Suriname to create an online tool to promote intra-regional trade. Stakeholders, especially suppliers of regionally produced goods can access the portal and register via the following link https://www.cimsupro.com/user/register

Detienen a menor en auto robado a mano armada en Carolina

Las autoridades intervinieron con un menor que conducía un vehículo que había sido robado a mano armada, a eso de la una de la madrugada del sábado, en la avenida Sánchez Castaño en Carolina.

Según el reporte de la Policía, los agentes intervinieron con el vehículo Kia Soul, color azul, año 2019, porque no tenía las luces encendidas. Al verificar la tablilla se percataron de que la misma poseía gravamen de hurto y no le pertenecía al auto intervenido.

Posteriormente, los agentes procedieron a verificar la placa (VIN number) del auto, y se percataron nuevamente de que el vehículo poseía gravamen de hurto a mano armada (carjacking) el 23 de septiembre, en la carretera PR-165, área de los Veleros en Dorado.

El conductor del auto intervenido resulto ser un menor de 16 años, por lo que fue transportado a la división de Asuntos Juveniles del Cuerpo de Investigaciones Criminales de San Juan.

El caso se consultará con la Procuradora de Menores para la radicación de faltas correspondientes.

Este viernes, el tenista suizo Roger Federer puso fin a su prestigiosa carrera deportiva, a sus 41 años, con una derrota frente al dúo Jack Sock y Frances Tiafoe. Federer jugaba de pareja con el español Rafa Nadal en un choque de dobles masculino de la Copa Laver, disputada en Londres, Reino Unido. El partido se decidió con un desempate de 11-9. La superestrella había anunciado la semana pasada que se retiraba del tenis. Aún entre lágrimas, el 20 veces ganador del Grand Slam insistió en que “está feliz, no triste”, informó AS, este sábado.

Al final del partido, Federer disfrutó de un largo abrazo con su viejo rival, Nadal, antes de recibir una última ovación por parte de una multitud de pie que asistió al encuentro. “Mira, ha sido un día maravilloso. Les dije a los muchachos que estoy feliz, no estoy triste. Me siento genial estando aquí y he disfrutado atándome los cordones una vez más”, comentó.

“Siento como si esto fuera una celebración para mí”, agregó Federer. Luego, visiblemente emocionado agradeció a su esposa, Mirka (Miroslava ‘Mirka’ Federer, también extenista profesional suiza). “Mi esposa me ha apoyado tanto… podría haberme detenido hace mucho, mucho tiempo, pero no lo hizo.
