Retailers report steady back-to-school sales Loop Barbados

Black Immigrant Daily News

Retailers are elated to see a surge in back-to-school shopping ahead of the September 19 start.

The Ministry of Education, Vocational and Technological Training has yet to confirm the format for the new school year, but parents have wasted no time to race to Bridgetown to purchase school necessities.

Operations director of Swan Street store, Abed’s Co & Ltd, Alex Abed reported a noticeable surge in sales in comparison to 2021, when classes resumed online.

“Compared to last year where back-to-school didn’t happen for COVID-19, the demand is definitely noticeable. With Cave Shepherd no longer doing school clothes, we have seen an uptake in the amount of people for back-to-school. There are always those in need and those who need more having to decide between buying more than one uniform of four children or one for each of them,” he shared.

The Swan Street branch of Abed’s was noticeably bustling with a crowd swarming the uniform section of the store.

Meanwhile, managing director of department store Woolworth, Martin Bryan told Loop News there has been a steady flow of customers but he expected business to get hectic on the weekend before school commenced.

“Bajans are last minute so it has been quite steady but we reckon in the next two weeks it will be brisk because you have…two more weekends and we reckon we will have an influx of customers by then,” Bryan said.

He added: “The last two years there have been no back-to-school so we were struggling in terms of uniforms. We were stuck with a lot of the uniforms but this year we have definitely seen a drastic increase….We are grateful for that so we hope life continues as normal.”

Hear the accent? First look at Bajan Niko Terho on Grey’s Academy Loop Barbados

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Barbados News

Barbados’ Niko Terho may or may not be the intern who is living in the hospital below the radar in this new residency programme at the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital on Season 19 of Grey’s Anatomy.

He’s trying to prove that he deserves to be there

In a sneak peek trailer dropped yesterday, the new class of Grey meet with Sloan and learn “You will save lives and you will end some”. But this entire new cohort seems to be getting a second chance. Sloan calls on the “diamonds in the rough” to “prove the doubters wrong” and it seems they have “a lot to prove”.

In his introduction, Terho says his character, “Lucas Adams, is trying to prove himself. He’s trying to prove that he deserves to be there.”

But when caught either with his hands in his pants or with his pants partially down, and asked what is he doing, he replies smoothly, “Was working till 4am, thought I’d put on fresh underwear.” To which he is met with a doubtful reply of, “Please don’t tell me you’re living here.”

Terho slips his hands into his white jacket and we are all left with no answer.

Asked what it’s like being a part of this explosion of newness on the set of Grey’s Anatomy, Terho says he likens every day on the set to when you first go to Disney World in your childhood, “and stepping into the kingdom”.

The new season kicks off Thursday, October 6, 2022.

Terho is born to a Barbadian mom and a Finnish dad.

Tekashi 6ix9ine Not Happy About Court Ordered Protection From Girlfriend

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

6ix9ine says he doesn’t need a court to protect him from his girlfriend who recently put the paws on him.

Tekashi 6ix9ine’s girlfriend has been ordered by a court to stay away from the rapper after her domestic violence arrest last week in which she allegedly battered the “Trollz” rapper at a Miami nightclub. Jade and Tekashi have been together for more than four years, but it seems that their relationship has broken down. Despite the arrest and charge, Tekashi doesn’t seem keen on having her suffer consequences, TMZ reported.

6ix9ine’s girlfriend has been issued an extensive protective order to keep no contact with the rapper. This includes not only all forms of remote contact, such as phone calls, texts, letters, and social media but also physical contact. Jade must also stay at least 500 feet away from the Brooklyn rapper.

It doesn’t seem that Tekashi or Jade will follow the order. The rapper stated that their relationship is doing well, meaning that they are still together despite the incident. He recently went on Instagram Live and tell fans that they are in a good place with their relationship but admitted that he found himself in a dark place frequently, so he is taking a break.

The rapper also says he is allowing Jade and her child to remain in residence at his house in Florida until they take care of the legal issues. 6ix9ine, on the other hand, will stay in a hotel until that is sorted out, but he does indicate that there is a possibility that he will move back into the home with her and her child.

Last month Jade was arrested for throwing hands at 6ix9ine. At the time, the rapper said that her friends had encouraged her to fight with him. Part of the altercation was also videoed and shared online.

Despite Jade being the aggressor, 6ix9ine had said that he was going to pay her bond so she could be released from bail. At the time, she was placed on a $1500 bond.
