Shaw to lead delegation to 41st Session of ICAO Assembly in Montreal Loop Jamaica

Black Immigrant Daily News

Minister of Transport and Mining, Audley Shaw, is leading a delegation to the 41st Session of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Assembly in Montreal, Canada, where Jamaica will seek election to the ICAO Council.

The delegation includes Director General of the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA), Nari Williams-Singh; Chief Technical Director in the Transport Ministry, Dr Janine Dawkins; Senior Director of Transport Policy, Tanya Bedward; and Director of Legal Services, Yvonne Barnett Russell.

The council which is a permanent body of the ICAO, is comprised of 36 member states which are elected by the assembly every three years. The ICAO Council gives direction to the work of ICAO while being responsible for standards adoption and other ICAO governance responsibilities while the organisation’s full assembly of 193 national governments is not in session.

The ICAO, which is a specialised agency of the United Nations, was established by governments in 1947 by the Convention on International Civil Aviation (1944), to support their diplomacy on international air transport matters.

The elections for the next triennium will take place from October 1 to October 7, 2022.

In May 2022, Jamaica launched its candidature for election to Part III of the ICAO Council for the 2022/25 triennium.

Securing an ICAO Council seat provides Jamaica an opportunity for the country to contribute to decision-making at the highest level in the international aviation industry.

Jamaica has been an ICAO member state since 1963, and represented the English-speaking Caribbean on the council over the period 1977 to 1986.

Shaw is also scheduled to meet with members of the diaspora, as well as other ministers of transport during his time in Montreal.

Ten Hag committed to helping Maguire return to finest form Loop Jamaica

Black Immigrant Daily News

MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has revealed measures are in place to protect players’ mental health at a time when club captain Harry Maguire has been the subject of intense criticism.

England international Maguire has been dropped at club level and is fighting for his place at the World Cup following an alarming dip in form.

It has seen him suffer growing abuse on social media and raised questions about his future at United.

But Ten Hag is adamant protections are in place for all players and committed himself to returning Maguire to his finest form.

Addressing concerns over the 29-year-old defender’s mental health, the United manager said: “But it’s an aspect of top football. It’s an aspect of our work. We set conditions for that, to manage it.

“We also have experts around to help, to coach the players, the team in the right direction.

“I think he is doing quite well, but every player has room for improvement and if he believes in his skills he will quickly be back on the level and even more than he did. I am convinced of that because I see his capabilities and it’s really high.”

Maguire has endured a miserable start to the season – losing his place to Raphael Varane at United, before making high-profile mistakes in England’s 3-3 draw with Germany on Monday.

It prompted the center back to publicly apologise on Instagram, adding: “The tough times will make us stronger.”

Fellow defender Luke Shaw aired his own concerns for his club and international teammate.

“He’s taken a lot of stick – probably more than I’ve ever seen before in football,” Shaw told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“Everybody knows he’s an unbelievable player. At the moment the confidence might not be there because it could feel like the whole world is against him.”

United legend Rio Ferdinand tweeted: “Feel for Harry . . . every mistake being punished and scrutinised – comes with the territory though.

“Needs to be strong mentally to get through this!”

Maguire is out of Sunday’s derby against Manchester City with a thigh injury – but is unlikely to have started even if fit after being dropped following the 4-0 defeat to Brentford last month.

Ten Hag had initially shown faith in him when retaining him as captain after taking over the club at the end of last season.

And he insists he still has belief in the player.

“First of all, of course I have to coach him,” he said. “I have to back him. But I back him because I believe in him.

“In the period I worked with him in pre-season was good. Really good, training and games. So then he fell out – but it’s also to do with the good performance of the center backs who are playing now. But I can see even after he wasn’t in the team he trained really well, but more important, the quality was there.

“You see his career, almost 50 caps for England. For Leicester and Man United he’s performing really well. What you see is he has a high potential. Then it is about him.

“The players in the dressing room, the coaches, the manager, we all believe in him. Now it is about him. That’s what I told him. I’m sure he can do it. He will turn around this. I am really convinced of that.”

Taxpayers making payments to GRA with dishonoured cheques can be charged, blacklisted

Black Immigrant Daily News

See full statement from the Guyana Revenue Authority:

The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) wishes to advise the general public that TAXPAYERS AND THEIR REPRESENTATIVES making payments by dishonoured cheques to the Authority may be subject to prosecution under the Criminal Law (Offences Act) Chapter 8:01, with those found guilty in a court of law subjected to imprisonment. This warning is necessary in view of the increasingly prevalent practice of uttering dishonored cheques to the Authority.

Taxpayers are also advised that notwithstanding the penalty outlined above, associated interest and penalties continue to accrue from the due date of the payment until the liability is settled in full.

Consequently, the Authority advises that entities making payments to GRA by cheque must ensure that the information detailed thereon is accurate and that sufficient funds are available in their respective bank accounts to process such payments.

Persons effecting payment by dishonored cheques due to insufficient funds will be blacklisted and not allowed to make payments by personal cheques for a minimum period of six months in the first instance, twelve months in the second instance and permanently thereafter.

Payments effected by such defualters must thereafter be by cash if less than 2 million dollars (in keeping with AML regulations) or by Manager’s drafts for any amount.

Such defaulting taxpayers will be required to make all future payments by either Manager’s cheque or cash, depending on the amount. Taxpayers are reminded that GRA will not accept cash payments exceeding two million dollars ($2M) as a result of security concerns for both the Agency and general public.

The Authority again entreats taxpayers to take advantage of the convenient and secure electronic payment options available through MMG, Bill Express and any of the bill payment facilities at Demerara Bank, Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry and Republic Bank.

Cardi B Demands Apology For PnB Rock’s Baby Mother After Police Arrest

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Cardi B is calling out social media users who blamed PnB Rock’s baby mother, Stephanie Sibounheuang, for the rapper’s death.

The “Selfish” rapper was shot and killed on September 12 while he and Sibounheuang were out at the popular Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles diner in Inglewood, California. Sibounheuang was initially chastised and blamed by many social media users who claimed that she had allegedly set up PnB’s murder by posting a location pin on her Instagram Story.

On Wednesday, a 17-year-old was arrested as the shooter, and later arrested his father, Freddie Lee Trone, was identified as the getaway driver. According to the police, the father and son team were already at Roscoe’s parking lot when PnB Rock and his girlfriend arrived. This development removed speculations that the criminals found the rapper’s location via his girlfriend’s Instagram post.

The Bronx rapper, who initially showed support for the late rapper’s spouse, chided social media users for their harsh comments directed at Sibounheuang.

“Told y’all……Yall must not know how the hood moves …. Y’all owe that girl a apology for the shit y’all put her through knowing that she saw her baby dad die in her face….Social media investigators YALL S***,” Cardi B wrote on Twitter.

Shortly after the murder, Cardi B had called for people to be compassionate towards the woman, especially in light of the traumatic incident and because she has a child with PnB Rock.

“I highly doubt n**** was looking at PMB’s babymom IG,” Cardi B wrote at the time on Instagram in pushing back against fans blaming Sibounheuang for being responsible or the rapper’s death.

Shortly after the rapper’s killing, many called out his partner for sharing their location while they were at the venue. Many speculated that the rapper might have been surveyed on Instagram, with the criminals spotting his location and popping up.

Among those who criticized Sibounheuang were Kodak Black and Nicki Minaj for posting the location pin.

“After Pop Smoke there’s no way we as rappers or our loved ones are still posting locations to our whereabouts,” Minaj said. “To show waffles & some fried chicken????! He was such a pleasure to work with. Condolences to his mom & family. This makes me feel so sick. Jesus,” she had written on Twitter.

After she was criticized, Nicki Minaj doubled down in another tweet. “Yup. Ima say what I want. As a RAPPER & as a MOTHER,” she wrote.

Kodak Black also outrightly blamed PnB’s baby mother for the killing. “That h*e might as well kill herself,” the Florida rapper wrote on Instagram Stories.

Minaj nor Kodak has spoken since the arrest of Trone and his son.
