Roland Surajdeen charged with possession of firearm – TTPS
TWO men are expected to appear before an Arima Magistrate charged with the possession of several firearms.
On August 28, Dane Maraj, 38, of Timberland Park D’Abadie and Roland Surajdeen, 47, of Palmiste, San Fernando were in a white Mercedes Benz driving along the northbound lane of the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway, near the Brian Lara Cricket Academy when police stopped and searched the car during a road traffic exercises.
While searching the vehicle, the officers allegedly found a gun.

Further enquiries led officers to the suspect’s home, where they executed a search warrant at Maraj’s home where they recovered 40 rounds of nine-millimetre ammunition.
When police then executed a search warrant Surajdeen’s home they found a large cache of firearms, ammunition, and firearm components, namely slides and barrels.
Both men were arrested and charged on August 31.
Snr Supt Wayne Mystar, head of the Traffic and Highway Patrol said he was pleased that the new grid system is affecting the seizure of illegal firearms, narcotics and the arrest of criminals.
He added that he expects more success in the upcoming months as the new grid system is expanded throughout the country.
Meanwhile, police also arrested a Penal teenager after he was found with a 38 Special Revolver, containing three rounds of .38 special ammunition.

During a search at the home, police found the gun hidden under a pile of clothes, wrapped in a jacket. The 17-year-old boy was arrested and taken to the Oropouche Police Station.
Additionally, during a roving and house search exercise conducted in the North Central, Northern and North Eastern Divisions, between the hours of 11 pm and 5 am on Wednesday police got information on a one Rossi .38 Revolver with five rounds of .38 special ammunition, and one transparent plastic wrapping containing 190 grams of marijuana hidden near a dumpster at Roble Street, Morvant.
No one has been arrested in connection with this discovery.
Investigations are ongoing.

One hundred local craft artisans were featured in the first Independence Day Craft Market at Adam’s Smith Square, Woodbrook, Port of Spain on Wednesday.
Craft Hub TT hosted the event to develop the craft sector and maximise the commercialisation of craft.
Business development manager of Export Centres Company Ltd Sa’Nia Carasquero told to Newsday during the event, “This is to provide them with opportunities for growth and to sell their products. So in celebration of the 60th year of independence, we decided to celebrate by featuring 60 craft collectives.
“Initially, when we were planning the event, we wanted 60 artisans for the 60th anniversary but the response has been so overwhelming that we had to expand the market.”

She said the event now paves the way for a boost in the sector.
“A lot of them are willing to come together again and collaborate. It’s the spirit of craft entrepreneurship, it’s the spirit of shop local, buy local all centralised in one space with all the people who encourage and facilitate that. It feels like a family affair.”
The well-attended event featured craft markets from the Emancipation Village, Drag Brothers, the Cottage, South Market 868 and others.

Il y a une conjonction de nouvelles, de situations, de prises de positions qui mettent pour une fois le pays et m?me le gouvernement Henry en situation de faire des r?formes. Ce qui va se passer ou pas dans les prochains jours nous renseignera sur l’avenir?
En renvoyant la rentr?e des classes de septembre ? octobre, le gouvernement prolonge les vacances mais aussi se donne une bouff?e d’air. Surprise !!! Personne ne d?sirait ardemment la rentr?e des classes en septembre, ni parents ni ?l?ves ne la souhaitaient, les directeurs d’?cole ne la croyaient pas possible. Ce mois suppl?mentaire devrait ?tre mis ? profit par les autorit?s pour changer de cap. Si l’?cole n’a pas pu ouvrir, c’est de leur faute.
Toutes les nouvelles ne sont pas mauvaises en ce mois d’ao?t 2022, la police nationale n’a jamais ?t? aussi pr?sente depuis des ann?es. Elle m?ne des op?rations et reste un corps. Une institution.
Pour la premi?re fois depuis des ann?es, les services de l’administration des douanes donnent des r?sultats. Il y a des saisies, des arrestations et les recettes collect?es augmentent.

Ces importateurs et commer?ants ont donn? carte blanche aux services concern?s pour les taxer et pour taxer tout le monde. Ils sont soutenus dans leur d?marche par des entrepreneurs dominicains, pays partie prenante de la contrebande qui d?truit Ha?ti.
M?me si on ignore jusqu’? quand cela va durer, la chute de la gourde sur le march? local s’est estomp?e. Les prix ne sont pas encore ajust?s ? la baisse mais il y a un mince espoir

En ce mois d’ao?t, il y a des dangers, des perspectives, des pistes et des opportunit?s ? saisir.

THE mother of two men targeted by gunmen grieved at her La Canoa Road, lower Santa Cruz home for a woman who was shot and killed in the crossfire after gunmen stormed her son’s home on Wednesday morning.
Police said Ashley Morris, 28, was at the home of her boyfriend, Brandon Joseph, at around 7 am when she heard noises outside and went to check.
Gunmen shot her multiple times before going to look for Joseph.
Joseph managed to escape with one gunshot wound to his right leg.
Morris was pronounced dead on the scene and Joseph was taken to the hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
On Tuesday, Joseph’s brother Jevon, a 26-year-old gardener was killed by gunmen as he walked near Cakes Land, La Canoa Road, around 2.15 pm. He was shot several times.
A DMO pronounced him dead on the scene and his body was taken to the Forensic Sciences Centre for an autopsy. Investigations are ongoing.
When Newsday visited the area the men’s mother Michelle Alexander sat on a concrete step of her porch, holding her head as she was being consoled by two other relatives.
She could not think of a reason why anyone would target her sons.
“When they killed the first one I was in a mess. I haven’t slept yet so I was up when I hear the gunshot this morning. The first person that came to my mind was my other son and right away my belly locked and burned.
“But they could have let that girl go. If they had something with my sons they could trash it out with them, but that girl was innocent. I want to know why they would kill a woman like this. Killing the girl was not called for.”
Morris had been in a relationship with Joseph for three months and recently moved in with him.
“I have to ask the people who do this: ‘Why? Why kill the innocent girl?’ She got caught up in the crossfire but that should not happen. Is it that you didn’t want any witnesses? I watch this woman go in front of my eyes. I am a woman. All I will say to the people that do this is: how you make your bed is how you will lay down.”
She has left the murder of her first son in God’s hands.
“This is the life we live in. Life will go on but I would say this: the crime situation is a mess. People will get tired of the bloodshed and start to riot. This is not under control.
Another relative of the men, who did not want to be named, believes he will be the next target but has decided not to go into hiding.
“When his (Joseph’s) brother got killed I spoke to him and his girlfriend and we planned to have a lime to cheer up his mother for Independence Day.
The man, who lives a stone’s throw away from the Josephs, said, on his way to the house, he heard gunshots and ran back home.
“They shoot them up for a whole half-an-hour. When it finished, I meet him (Brandon) come down on the track and I take him. And the police and ambulance came and rushed him to the hospital.
“I don’t understand why someone would do this, but all three of us move together and I feel I’m next and I don’t know why.
The men are originally from Port of Spain but moved to Santa Cruz to move away from criminal elements and influence.
The relative said “The brother that got killed was warned not to go up by Cakes Land because of the reputation of the area but he still went to check a friend. As soon as he left, got killed on the road.
The relative has no faith the police can arrest the perpetrators.
“They can’t protect me. I asked them if they plan to do more patrols, because I feeling uneasy now, and they told me they would try their best. They told my family not to sleep up here tonight but I’m not going anywhere because I still have to stick around because my aunt (Michelle) is still there.”
The father of one said his mother would take care of his daughter if he was targeted next.
“It has nothing I could do but protect myself, stay off the road and keep my eyes open.”

Police have identified the 43-year-old who lost his life last night in the latest fatal shooting incident.
The victim was identified by family members as Rommel Trotman. He resides at the same location, where the shooting occurred – Redman’s Gap, Westbury Road, St Michael.
Police are at a report of a shooting incident at Redmans Gap, Westbury Road, St Michael.
Not far from the first shooting of the night, which occurred around 6:30 pm at King’s Gap.
The report for the latest shooting on this bloody August 30, came in about 10:06 pm to Police Operations Control room.
Police Information Officer Acting Inspector Rodney Inniss can confirm that one man is lying motionless at the scene after reports of shots fired.
Police investigations are at a sensitive stage and are ongoing.

Jay-Z only needed one take to record 4 minutes of spitting bars.
What many consider to be one of Jay-Z’s greatest verses ever was recorded in one take. Hip Hop fans have been raving about Hov’s verse on DJ Khaled’s “GOD DID,” and now his longtime engineer Young Guru recently revealed that not only is it a banger, but the rapper dropped it all in one take.
The verse even impressed Young Guru, who has been working with Jay-Z for about two decades now. According to the engineer, in all of his years working with Jay-Z, he had never seen anything like that verse. The track is off of DJ Khaled’s new album, which dropped last Friday, August 26.
“People think I’m still not amazed when he walk in and do these verses. And this one was different because normally, we’ll sit down, we’ll do a song, three verses, two verses or whatever, and he’ll have a verse and then we’ll figure out what’s next,” he said while speaking with Genius’ Rob Markman and GQ’s Frazier Tharpe.
He went on to say that the “Empire State of Mind” rapper walked into the studio, spitting the verse already. While he was rapping, he asked Guru to put the beat on so he could record. Guru shared that he did not have the beat at the time, and after Hov shared it with him, he began to loop it but was stopped by the New York native.
Jay-Z then told him to contact Khaled because he wanted the entire instrumental in putting the words to the beat.
He revealed that he also didn’t know Jay-Z had almost four minutes prepared and enough bars for his verse already.
“I’m just in amazement of watching him do this again at 52 years old. It’s like, I never stop being amazed. That’s why I tweeted ’cause it’s just like, ‘Yo, I don’t really wanna have a conversation after this,’” he added.
He was so impressed that he even Tweeted about it before the song dropped.
“HOV is the greatest of all time. This can’t be debated anymore!!!” he posted at that time.
