Priority Bus Route partly open until midnight

THE Ministry of Works and Transport has said the Priority Bus Route – from Mt Hope to Arima – will only be open to light vehicles until Thursday at 12am.

Areas across the country are flooded. The country is under a yellow-level adverse weather alert set to end on Friday at 12pm.

In a press release on Wednesday afternoon, the ministry said the partial opening applies to both directions.

SCHOOLS in Tobago were dismissed early on Wednesday owing to the bad weather across the country.

There have been reports of massive flooding, landslides and fallen trees in several parts of the island. In a press release on Wednesday, the Division of Education said all schools will be dismissed at 1pm.

“Parents are advised to make the necessary arrangements to have their children collected as soon as possible. Students who utilise the maxi taxi services will be collected from their respective schools,” the division said.

Unless further advised, all schools will resume classes on Thursday.

The division urged the public to remain vigilant while taking the necessary precautions to preserve their safety.

Families affected by the adverse weather conditions are advised to contact the 211 Call Centre or TEMA at 660-7489.

Jamaican man charged with killing HDC employee

A Jamaican national has been charged with murdering a Santa Cruz man in August.

Homicide officers were given the all-clear by Deputy DPP George Busby on Tuesday to charge Jonathan Howell, 56, with murdering Dennis Nero.

Howell, a caterer, is alleged to have murdered Nero after the two had a disagreement.

Police reported that at about 6 am on August 23, Nero was standing on Saddle Road, San Juan, near the Croisee, when another man walked up and shot him in the head.

Police said Nero collapsed and died as the killer ran off along Saddle Road and escaped.

Nero worked at the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) as a mason and was on his way to work when he was killed.

Man held with stolen car in Laventille

Police from the Port of Spain Task Force intercepted a car shortly after it was reported stolen on Tuesday morning.

They said officers on patrol on Wharton Street, Laventille, at around 11 am received a report that a grey Honda City car had been stolen in Morvant.

Police saw the car nearby and chased it before catching up to it. Three men got out of the car and ran away in different directions.

Police searched the area and found one of the bandits hiding nearby.

The 27-year-old man was arrested and is expected to be questioned by police on Wednesday.

The car was released to the Morvant CID.

The arrest of the man and recovery of the car involved Sgt Alexander, Cpls Sookhoo, Williams, St Bernard and PCs Garraway, Campbell and WPC Brown.

This launch will provide an opportunity to help develop a sustainable mutually beneficial collaboration between the Miami Carnival audience and Saint Lucia Carnival. 

A sample of the island’s unique Soca offerings will be provided by ‘Ezra Da Fun Machine’, and Road March Runner Up, ‘Shemmy J’, both backed by ‘DJ Hyper D’. 

Saint Lucia’s offerings will be on display at ‘Tipsy’ on October 7, where tens of thousands are expected to attend the event headlined by Afro-fusion superstar ‘Burna Boy’. Additionally, Brand Saint Lucia will be heavily displayed along the Miami Carnival route on October 9th.

FVFC Femini hammer Combine Women 17-0 in BFA Women’s Super League Loop Barbados

The ladies of Fitts Village Football Club Femini were ruthless and relentless last weekend in their Barbados Football Association (BFA) Women’s Super League.

The west coast representatives defeated the Combined Women 17-0 last Sunday at the Holder’s Hill playing field, to earn the largest win of the competition thus far.

Kickstart Rush Genesis were also big winners over the weekend. The table-toppers defeated the youthful RF Prime 6-0 at the Friendship playing field.

Over at Briar Hall, the University of the West Indies (UWI) Blackbirds continued their unbeaten run with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Technique FC.

Former national midfielder Cosette Brathwaite scored six goals for FVFC Femini, in their 17-0 goal feast over Combined Women

Mavericks SC and Pinelands FC played to a goalless draw at Rices playing field.

With one more round of matches left in the preliminary phase of the competition Kickstart Rush Genesis lead the table with 15 points from six matches, they are expected to be joined in the playoffs by Fitts Village FC Femini who are in second spot with 14 points from a similar amount of matches.

The UWI ladies have played five matches and rest comfortably in third place with 13 points.

The final championship play-off spot is being currently occupied by RF Prime who have secure nine points from six matches, but Mavericks SC are within touching distance after earning five points in five matches.

Fortes pluies et orages : retour au vert en Martinique

Fin de la vigilance jaune, la Martinique repasse au vert selon le dernier bulletin de Météo-France paru ce mercredi 5 octobre à 11 heures 51, alors que l’onde tropicale s’éloigne.

L’onde tropicale se situe à proximité immédiate de Tobago ce midi. Elle se déplace lentement vers l’Ouest et présente toujours une probabilité élevée d’évoluer en phénomène cyclonique. Les vents les plus forts se situent au sud de la Barbade et de Saint Vincent. Les pluies orageuses se cantonnent maintenant au Sud des Grenadines. Quelques averses sont possibles encore sur la Martinique mais elles transitent rapidement sans donner de cumuls significatifs. L’air devient plus sec avec une légère brume de sable au cours de l’après-midi puis une amélioration plus franche est attendue en soirée.

En 24 heures, les cumuls mesurées sont de : 50 mm à Morne Rouge, 40 mm à Font Saint Denis, 35 mm à Ducos.

Route du rhum: des élèves du lycée hôtelier de Dinard créent une carte “Bretagne-Guadeloupe “

27 étudiants du lycée hôtelier de Dinard (Ille-et-Vilaine) se rendront en Guadeloupe, pour accueillir les skippers de la Route du Rhum. Pour financer le voyage, ils ont créé un menu “Bretagne-Guadeloupe”.

Pendant les vacances de la Toussaint, l’internat du lycée hôtelier de Dinard accueillera 70 lycéens du lycée hôtelier du Gosier qui travailleront sur le village de la Route du Rhum. Et à l’inverse une promotion d’élèves dinardais prendra à son tour la direction de la Guadeloupe

Une carte “Bretagne-Guadeloupe”

Ce sont 27 étudiants de première année et de deuxième année de BTS qui seront en Guadeloupe  sur le village de l’arrivée des skippers de la Route du Rhum.Leur sélection s’est faite sur dossier. Ils devaient proposer une étude de cas sur un restaurant éphémère et créer une carte autour de la thématique « Bretagne-Guadeloupe ». 

Les 27 élèves retenus forment désormais la « Team Gwada » et vont financer leur voyage grâce à cette fameuse carte Bretagne-Guadeloupe.Le restaurant d’application du lycée, le Cézembre, sera exceptionnellement ouvert le vendredi soir et le samedi, pendant deux semaines, pour des services d’environ 80 convives, décrit l’enseignant. Nos fournisseurs ont fait un geste pour que la marge réalisée, ces jours-là, soit plus importante. Tous les bénéfices iront au financement du voyage. »

Un menu unique vendu au prix de 35 euros intitulé carte Bretagne-Guadeloupe sera proposé avec « une tarte fine boudin créole et reinettes de Bretagne » mais aussi « un dôme coco avec une base en sablé breton ».

Des lycéens ont également préparé des repas écoresponsables pour le skipper Roland Jourdain, ambassadeur d’Ethic Ocean le 6 novembre prochain.
