A l’occasion de la cérémonie du 11 novembre 1918, une délégation d’une centaine d’antillais a répondu l’invitation de l’association, Nou Ka Bay, présidé par Marie-Georges Gordien. Elle a quitté Paris pour assister à la cérémonie de l’armistice à Verdun, ville meurtrie lors de la Première guerre mondiale de 14-18. C’est la première fois que des Antillais participent de façon officielle à cette cérémonie commémorative dans cette ville meurtrie.  Son maire, Samuel Hazard, a voulu ainsi rendre hommage à tous les Guadeloupéens, Martiniquais, Guyanais, morts pour la France, lors de cette guerre.  

La président de l’association, Nou ka bay, Marie-Georges Gordien, a en compagnie de plusieurs personnalités déposé une gerbe au pied du monument aux morts de la ville de Verdun, en mémoire des combattants antillais morts pour la France.” C’est la première fois que Les antillais sont accueillis officiellement à Verdun. C’est un grand pas pour les générations à venir “, a laissé entendre le président, Marie Georges Gordien, de l’association Nou Ka Bay (NBK).

“La paix a un prix”

L’émotion était palpable dans l’assistance venue nombreuse pour saluer la mémoire de tous ces soldats morts au combat et mutilés. 

La cérémonie a débuté par les mots de la sous-préfète de Verdun, Marie Paule Tourte-Trolue, originaire de la Nouvelle Calédonie. Elle a lu le message du ministre des armées, Sébastien Lecornu et de son secrétaire d’Etat aux anciens combattants et à la mémoire, Patricia Mirallés. ” 11 novembre 1918 c’est l’armistice pour des millions de soldats venus du monde entier. C’est la fin de quatre terribles années de combats. Souvenons-nous de leurs bravoures et de leur sacrifices. Les souvenirs de nos poilus nous obligent et nous rappellent que la paix à un prix “.

Faire perdurer la mémoire des combattants antillais

L’après-midi, une stèle (réalisée par le designer Rudy Arconte) portant les noms de onze soldats de Guadeloupe et de Martinique a été dévoilée. Un moment inoubliable.  Ce monument est un moyen de faire vivre et perdurer la mémoire des combattants antillais. Le son du bèlè de Ti-Frère Avrila a raisonné dans les sous-bois et Jack a entonné un banjo gita pour accompagner leurs esprits pendant que les officiels faisaient tomber le drap qui cachait  les onze noms inscrits sur la stèle.

Opinion: Bold policy moves needed if Caymanians are to have a future Loop Cayman Islands

If lower-and-middle income Caymanians are to have a fair chance at realizing their dream of having a stable future in the Cayman Islands or securing for themselves some of the benefits depicted on marketing commercials, then I think that bold policy moves will have to be made soon to protect their interests.

Such measures, in my opinion, would include giving security to Caymanians for jobs and business in certain areas, for example, in watersports, on-land tour guide operations and real estate agency services. In addition, policy makers are encouraged to give some thought to the idea of re-establishing the Caymanian Protection Board.

Watersports

In relation to the watersports industry, while Caymanian watersports operators are still recovering from the decline of their businesses due to the pandemic, I think that any further wildlife interaction zone licences must be issued exclusively to Caymanians for the next five years. This is to ensure that Caymanians who possess wildlife interaction zone licences have a fair chance to get back on their feet and recoup some of their COVID-19 losses.

If this is not done, I fear that some big business overseas may see struggling Caymanian watersports businesses as an opportunity to enter the local market and, perhaps, squeeze some Caymanians out of the watersports business.

Tour Guides

One business connected to watersports and other areas of tourism is the work of tour guides.

Having had excellent first- hand experiences with a Caymanian-owned bike tour in East End, I see that there is great value in having the Cayman experience shared by a local who knows Cayman deeply and whose heart is Cayman. Hearing the local accent on a two-hour tour is also an added plus.

Looking at it this way, it is elementary to understand why tour guide operations should be reserved for Caymanians. In addition, I think it is a ‘win-win’ situation for Caymanians as they will have job security (as long as there is tourism) and the jurisdiction’s image will be helped as it will be able to further its claim that it is promoting a unique product.

Real Estate Agents

Another area which is the subject of some concern is the issuance of Local Companies Control Licences (LCCLs) by the government to persons to operate as real estate developers and real estate agents without the requirement for any Caymanian participation or ownership in the business.

In my opinion, this not only threatens the business model of Caymanian real estate developers and Caymanian real estate agents, but could shut them out of lucrative opportunities.

In terms of a solution, I think that a moratorium should be placed immediately on the issuance of LCCLs to real estate developers and real estate agents.

This will give small Caymanian-owned businesses in these areas a chance to expand and acquire more of a share of the real estate market rather than being substituted and replaced by estate agents coming from overseas looking for specially issued LCCLs to compete with Caymanian real estate professionals.

Caymanian Protection Board

In addition to all of the foregoing suggestions, some members of the public are advocates of the re-establishment of the Caymanian Protection Board by the government.

This comes after some Caymanians have complained over the years about difficulty in securing employment, challenges with job promotions and perceived discrepancies in pay.

It has also been raised as a concern because it appears that, given all of the recent court challenges against the Immigration Appeals Tribunals, there could be a mass permanent residency grant on the horizon, and following that, another mass Caymanian status grant.

If these mass grants occur soon and continue in the future, they could cause Caymanians to worry whether they are simply being replaced by others in their own country.

A properly constituted Caymanian Protection Board would address all of these immigration issues, hopefully leading to a revamped structure where qualified Caymanians would actually be considered first and a fixed number of citizenships (perhaps, based on a “lottery” system) would be considered for grant each year.

In addition, such a board might determine that qualification for permanent residency should no longer be based on an accumulation of points under the points system, but on evidence of real integration in the Caymanian community, a person’s contributions to the country as a whole and, of course, any relevant considerations under the Cayman constitution.

40-Y-O pregnant woman dies at COVID-19 Hospital

The Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) has reported that a 40-year-old pregnant woman from Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) died today at the Ocean View Hospital, which houses the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

This COVID fatality is the first in almost two months. The last COVID death was recorded on September 15 when an 88-year-old male from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) died as a result of the virus.

Nonetheless, the COVID-19 death toll in Guyana has gone up to 1281.

Govt to spend over $200M to regularise squatting area at Charity – Pres Ali

Dozens of squatters in Charity, Region Two, on Saturday received their certificates of title during the “Dream Realised” programme during which President Dr Irfaan Ali further committed that over $200 million will be spent to regularise the community.

In addition, he noted that work will start on 123 roads throughout the region by the end of the year.

The Head of State participated in the distribution of the certificates of titles to the residents at the Young Scholars Academy at Charity, Essequibo Coast. It was explained that out of 123 lots that can be regularised immediately, only 27 had fully paid their fees while 33 were yet to pay.

Accordingly, 27 persons received their titles on Saturday, while there will be a distribution for the remainder on Monday. It was explained by President Ali that the Government processed 60 titles in just four days.

“The remaining number of persons, the remaining 63 persons, out of the 123, we are ready for you to sign up and pay your fees so that you can get your title before the end of the year,” President Ali said.

He further explained the plans the Government has for their community and for the region as a whole. For one, he explained that over $200 million will be spent on regularising their community.

This includes the construction of a 40-foot-long concrete bridge linking Charity to an adjoining community, valued at some $35 million.

Another $120 million is expected to be spent on 2.5 kilometres of concrete roads between these two communities. An additional $20 million will be expended to bring water to the community, and another $20 million will be utilised to expand the electricity supply to the community’s ‘Red Rice’ area.

The President further assured the former squatters that they will be visited by bankers who will come to approve their home improvement loans. He noted that the Government has negotiated a special interest rate of just 3.9 per cent for these low-income loans.

Roads

President Ali meanwhile told them that having conducted an assessment of the region, they will be spending millions on roads in every community in the region. He made it clear that these roads are being built regardless of how communities voted, reminding that his Government is one that does not discriminate when it comes to State resources.

“In Charity, we are investing $4 billion in a huge, new water treatment plant for you here. Outside of all of that, we have identified 251 roads that have to be done in Region Two. We did an analysis of the entire region,” President Ali said.

“Every single community, regardless of how you look, feel or voted, all the roads in this region, every single community, has been placed on a list. And we have 251 roads to be done. We are earmarking, through supplementary provisions, resources to do 123 of these roads, commencing this year. Every community.”

Minister within the Housing and Water Ministry Susan Rodrigues, who was present at the event, assured those present that the Government will continue to deliver on its promises to them.

“We’re getting there, we’re getting more efficient and we will be able, through the Ministry of Housing and Water, to deliver on all of our promises by 2025. Every day you see a demonstration of our commitment to the work – delivering and actually putting in the work, hours and resources to deliver. And it is our honour to do so,” she said.

The former squatters turned homeowners were equally grateful. Tracy DaSilva extended thanks to the President, Ministers and all the technical staff who have been hard at work making sure they can process the certificates of titles. Paulette Owen, another recipient, also expressed thanks.

“I’m so happy that I’m here to receive this title. And I would like to congratulate Mr President for the good work that he’s doing. Even doing work in the canal, which I will be a part of. And I would like to say thank you,” she said.

Antonio Gonsalves, when called up to receive his title, lauded the efforts the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Government has been making to address the issues closest to the hearts of ordinary Guyanese.

“I do hope y’all recognise the great effort that comrade Irfaan Ali and his team are doing for the people of this country. Now you can’t expect something to come, brap. Comrade Ali took his time, he did a draft plan to get things in order, so that we could get a better life. They are working hard to comfort us. And I hope you acknowledge and cherish, the work they are doing for us,” Gonsalves said.

Imandeen Mangar meanwhile admitted that she has been squatting for 30 years. She, therefore, noted that the title meant a lot to her, as she celebrated that she’s “no more a squatter today.”

Single-window approval for construction permits by year-end

By the end of 2022, a single window approval system for construction permits will be activated, thereby providing significant ease and eliminating the royal run-around to get these permits validated.

This announcement was made by President Dr Irfaan Ali during his address at the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) Business Development Forum 2022 on Friday at the Pegasus Corporate Center.

According to the Head of State, this will see many hurdles being removed while noting that it will consolidate several interagency procedures into one application document.

“Before the end of this year, we are going to pass the single window approval system for construction permits. That alone removes hurdles. Now, you have to lodge your form, run to CH&PA…then the Fire Service, then Public Health, then some sanitary department…All of that is being erased into one application process,” Ali expressed.

The President expounded on how this system will function, adding that once all objections are fixed, the agency cannot bring new ones.

“What this single window application process will do is very simple. You deposit your application to one window. Electronically, it is sent to all the agencies that need to comment within a timeframe. If they don’t provide their comment, it is deemed approved. If they provide all their comments, the applicant gets a timeframe to respond to their comments. Once you respond to those comments and clear all the hurdles, they can’t come back with any new comments.”

The Guyanese Head of State acknowledged that many aspects of the system are archaic. However, Government is constantly making strides to correct these issues and enable easy access for Guyanese.

“Is the system perfect? No, absolutely no. Is the system archaic? Many parts of the system are archaic. Are we fixing it? Yes, of course, we are fixing it. The system deals with our training, at the technical institute, at the University of Guyana. Is our training geared towards the orientation of the economy?” he questioned.

Speaking on the current state of the construction sector, Ali emphasised that it has been booming and as such, investments and Government intervention to support stakeholders will see hundreds of contractors benefitting.

“I can tell you as I speak to you now, in the last two years, we have more than 420 new small contractors working in this Government, working in this country getting projects every day.”

Last month, the Housing and Water Ministry held consultations with agency heads on the single window system being introduced to make issuing planning and building permits a smoother process.

The Central Housing and Planning Authority hired experts from the Region for assistance in setting up the single window system. The increase in planning and construction has seen 1964 applications being processed by the CH&PA between the period of October 2020 and September 2022.

The Ease of Doing Business Index is one of the most comprehensive studies done by the World Bank, in which it looks at key indicators such as registering, compliance, taxation, obtaining loans, and similar factors such as administrative procedures. It also looks at legal measures such as protection and settlements.

In its last report, the World Bank ranked Guyana 134 out of 190 countries in its Doing Business Report for 2020 as it relates to the ease of doing business. However, the Government has been embarking on setting up a single window system.

Earlier this year, Foreign Secretary Robert Persaud had reassured investors that Government was working on the single window system as a mechanism to enhance the ease of doing and setting up businesses in the country.

The St. Lucia Olympic Committee (SLOC) Inc. has named four Chefs de Mission for upcoming major tournaments.

At a press briefing on Thursday, November 3, the following persons were officially introduced to the media by President of SLOC Inc., Alfred Emmanuel, to serve in that capacity:

Monica Dudley — Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago
Shayne Felicien – Santa Marta Beach Games in Colombia
Cornelius Breen — Centro Caribe Sports Games in El Salvador. His Assistant will be Isabel Marquis.
David Christopher — Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile. His Assistant will be Lisa Joseph, who will be serving in that capacity for the first time.

Emmanuel said the SLOC Inc. executive committee made the decision to appoint the Chefs de Missions early enough to allow them time to adequately prepare for the respective Games.

Emmanuel said despite receiving a WhatsApp message from a leader of a member association that accused SLOC Inc. and its President of selecting the same persons each time to serve and gain experience, the opposite is true.

“The St. Lucia Olympic Committee had an election. As President, I made three promises. One: to be inclusive. Two: to treat each and every member of this organization as an equal. And three: to go outside of what was the norm, and to bring in people.”

As an example, Emmanuel noted that being Chef de Mission for this year’s Caribbean Games held in Guadeloupe was George Charlemagne’s first stint in that role.

Charlemagne’s assistant was Jean Morille, who is not an executive member of SLOC Inc. Cornelius Breen, Chef de Mission, will also be serving as Chef de Mission for the first time at the Centro Caribe Sports Games to be held El Salvador.

“This is thinking outside of the box,” Emmanuel stated. “This is inclusivity, bringing in people to gain the experience that I am now being accused of not doing.”

He added: “The executive committee of the St. Lucia Olympic Committee has every confidence in the people selected to be responsible for the Saint Lucian delegation at the respective events. They’re coming with vast experience from their own individual sport and, by extension, the experience they would have gained along the way interacting with local, regional and international bodies.”

The Chefs de Mission and Assistants made brief remarks at the press briefing.

Dudley: “I am looking forward to that challenge, and I know that recently our athletes have been doing very well at some Games. So I would expect some very high standards coming from our athletes.”

Breen: “The Centro Caribe Sports Games are very challenging, in that we have multiple sports across the board. So it will require the support of each and every one to ensure that the delegation is adequately prepared for the competition.”

Marquis: “I come with a background of experience in the field of multi-games competitions. So I’m looking forward to putting that forward in my assistance in the Games next year.”

Joseph: “We are hoping that we can better our last medal haul. I think we got the gold and bronze medals. So we’re hoping that this time we can even better that performance.”

Un attentat a visé dimanche le coeur battant d’Istanbul, principale ville et capitale économique de la Turquie, faisant au moins six morts et des dizaines de blessés dans l’artère commerçante très fréquentée d’Istiklal.

L’explosion de forte puissance est survenue vers 16H20 (13H20 GMT), au moment où la foule était particulièrement dense dans ce lieu de promenade prisé des Stambouliotes et des touristes.

Dans une déclaration devant la presse et en direct à la télévision, le président Recep Tayyip Erdogan a dénoncé un “vil attentat” qui a fait “six morts et 53 blessés”.

“Les premières observations laissent subodorer un attentat terroriste”, a affirmé le chef de l’Etat, ajoutant qu’”une femme y serait impliquée”, sans autre précision.

Des rumeurs ont couru immédiatement après l’explosion évoquant une attaque suicide, sans aucune confirmation ni preuve.

L’attaque n’avait pas été revendiquée en début de soirée.

“Les auteurs de ce vil attentat seront démasqués. Que notre population soit sûre (qu’ils) seront punis”, a promis M. Erdogan qui avait déjà été confronté à une campagne de terreur à travers le pays en 2015-2016.

Revendiquée en partie par le groupe Etat islamique, elle avait fait près de 500 morts et plus de 2.000 blessés.

Un premier bilan du gouverneur d’Istanbul, Ali Yerlikaya, avait fait état de quatre morts et 38 blessés.

La police a aussitôt établi un large cordon de sécurité pour empêcher l’accès à la zone meurtrie par crainte d’une seconde explosion. Un imposant déploiement de forces de sécurité barrait également tous les accès au quartier et aux rues adjacentes, a constaté la vidéaste de l’AFP. 

“J’étais à 50-55 m de distance, il y a eu soudain un bruit d’explosion. J’ai vu trois ou quatre personnes à terre”, a déclaré à l’AFP un témoin, Cemal Denizci, 57 ans.

“Les gens couraient en panique. Le bruit était énorme. Il y a eu une fumée noire. Le son était si fort, presque assourdissant”, a-t-il rapporté.

Selon des images diffusées sur les réseaux sociaux au moment de l’explosion, celle-ci, accompagnée de flammes, a été entendue de loin et a déclenché aussitôt un mouvement de panique.

Un large cratère noir est visible sur ces images, ainsi que plusieurs corps à terre gisant à proximité.

Le maire d’Istanbul Ekrem Imamoglu s’est rapidment rendu sur place: “J’ai été briefé par les équipes de pompiers sur Istiklal. Ils poursuivent leur travail en coordination avec la police” a-t-il indiqué sur Twitter, en présentant ses condoléances aux victimes et à leurs proches.

Dans le quartier voisin de Galata, beaucoup de boutiques ont baissé leurs rideaux avant l’heure. Certains passants, arrivés en courant du lieu de l’explosion, avaient les larmes aux yeux, a constaté un journaliste de l’AFP.

Diffusion d’images interdite

A la nuit tombée, les terrasses des restaurants de ce quartier très touristique restaient en partie vides.

Le Haut conseil audiovisuel turc (RTUK) a rapidement interdit aux médias audiovisuels de diffuser des images de la scène, décision justifiée par le directeur de la communication présidentielle et proche conseiller du président Erdogan, Farhettin Altun, pour “empêcher de semer la peur, la panique et l’agitation dans la société et (risquer) de servir les objectifs d’organisations terroristes”. 

“Toutes les institutions et organisations de notre État mènent une enquête rapide, méticuleuse et efficace concernant l’incident” a-t-il promis dans une déclaration.

L’émotion est intense à Istanbul, déjà durement éprouvée par le passé. Les matches des grands clubs de foot stambouliiotes, dont le Galatasaray, ont été annulés.

La rue Istiklal, qui signifie “l’Indépendance”, dans le quartier historique de Beyoglu, est l’une des plus célèbres artères d’Istanbul, entièrement piétonne sur 1,4 km. Sillonnée par un vieux tramway, bordée de commerces et de restaurants, elle est empruntée par près de 3 millions de personnes par jour durant le week-end. 

Elle avait déjà été touchée, en mars 2016, par une attaque suicide qui avait fait cinq morts.

En Grèce, avec laquelle Ankara entretient des relations tendues, le ministère des Affaires étrangères a “condamné sans équivoque le terrorisme et exprime ses sincères condoléances au gouvernement et au peuple turcs”.

Et l’Amour?… On en parle, ou on n’en parle pas. Le terme de l’exposition personnelle de l’artiste multi-médium, Céline Bernabé, est accrochée dans la salle Des pas perdus de l’hôtel de ville d’Argenteuil (95), sa commune de naissance. C’est très riche, un réel talent, une grande sensibilité. 

Cécile Bernabé, 37 ans, née à Argenteuil, d’origine martiniquaise, vit et travaille à Pointe-Noire en Guadeloupe, avec sa famille, depuis 2008. C’est une artiste jeune autodidacte et multi disciplinaire. Elle possède plusieurs cordes à son âme de créatrice : la peinture, la sculpture, l’écriture avec son dernier livre ” Coucou ” qui parle de la bipolarité des fous déjantés, la photographie, le théâtre, la performance poétique et slameuse, la céramique … Elle participe à des expositions collectives et des performances.  Elle expose des œuvres qui soulignent l’importance du langage corporel dans la relation avec l’autre. Un questionnement sur la notion de l’amour dans un langage non verbal à travers deux personnages et les visiteurs. Elle a créé et amélioré sa technique au fur et à mesure des rencontres, d’échanges et des conseils. Elle est un bel exemple de réussite de l’école de la vie et de la ténacité. Elle s’exprime sur une grande diversité de supports et des matières pour communiquer avec le monde sa sensibilité.

Une rampe de lancement pour aller voir d’autres horizons

Depuis son plus jeune âge, elle a la passion de la création. “Mon inspiration, c’est l’amour, les émotions, les choses que nous avons quelques parts en nous, c’est inné. Je suis guidée par les émotions, par l’amour “, affirme l’artiste, Céline Bernabé. Elle fait un retour à sa source communale et familiale.  ” Je suis très émue. J’ai l’impression de redonner à Argenteuil, tout ce qu’elle m’a apporté. Je suis super fière. C’est une fierté pour moi. Mais aussi une rampe de lancement pour aller voir d’autres horizons. J’ai reçu beaucoup d’amour lors du vernissage. Je suis parvenue à susciter des émotions et cela est très important “.

Deux personnages sans visages, sans expressions visuelles. Ici, seule l’expression corporelle dégage de la tendresse entre ces deux êtres, de la plénitude, de la protection, de l’assurance. Nous donnant l’envie de se blottir, de les accompagner dans leur mouvement, dans leurs univers, créant déjà une histoire. ” J’aime utiliser différente matières et techniques, l’acrylique, le pastel, le collage, ce qui donne des effets, du relief”.

“Je questionne l’amour”

Tout est en rondeur et en douceur, pas d’angle, pas de pointe, rien de saillant, ni pointu, ni coupant. Des couleurs pastel, chaudes, rassurantes. Car sur sa toile, les personnages s’assemblent pour créer un espace de communion affectif, des dualités fusionnent dans un espace chaleureux qui aspirent continuellement à méditer sur l’Amour, , avant, pendant et après la création. Un travail artistique qui montre que Céline Bernabé a gardé son âme d’enfant. “J’ai eu une renaissance artistique en 2015, en prenant en compte mon mécanisme de création. Dans cette exposition, je questionne l’amour. Après tout ce qu’on a traversé depuis cette crise du Covid. Et l’Amour dans tout ça…., On en parle, ou en n’en parle pas . Et pourtant, il faut donner cet amour. Il faut continuer à le transmettre “.Son intérêt est d’apporter du bien être à l’autre, de l’apaisement . ” Mon but est que la personne qui souffre ne se sente plus isolée. Je me dois de véhiculer toujours de l’amour. Je pense que j’ai atteint mon objectif à travers cette exposition, Et l’Amour ? “.

Ocean Viking: la France “demande à l’Europe de se prononcer” à l’égard de l’Italie

La France a demandé “à l’Europe de se prononcer très rapidement sur les suites à donner” au refus de l’Italie d’accueillir le navire Ocean Viking et ses 230 migrants à bord, a indiqué dimanche le porte-parole du gouvernement Olivier Véran.

Vendredi, le bateau ambulance de l’ONG SOS Méditerranée opérant au large de la Libye a débarqué en France des rescapés, une première. Un accueil exceptionnel, par “devoir d’humanité”, selon le ministre de l’Intérieur Gérald Darmanin.

M. Véran a critiqué à nouveau dimanche sur BFMTV le refus de l’Italie de l’accueillir, “une décision unilatérale, inacceptable (…) inefficace et injuste de la part de l’actuel gouvernement italien, qui appelle des réponses européennes”.

“La première réponse était humanitaire, c’est fait” depuis l’accostage vendredi du bateau à Toulon, a-t-il poursuivi.

Et “la deuxième réponse, c’est rappeler les obligations” de l’Italie, “et si elle refusait, envisager toute mesure utile”.

“L’heure, et nous l’avons fait, est à ce que la France demande à l’Europe de se prononcer très rapidement sur les suites à donner”, a ajouté M. Véran, alors que “l’Italie se défausse de sa responsabilité sur ses voisins et ses amis français”.

“Il faut retrouver le sens de cette coopération européenne et aller de l’avant”, a insisté le porte-parole du gouvernement.

Jeudi, en annonçant la décision de laisser accoster l’Ocean Viking, M. Darmanin avait indiqué qu’en guise de rétorsion, la France avait décidé de suspendre “à effet immédiat” l’accueil prévu de 3.500 migrants actuellement en Italie. Quelque 500 d’entre eux devaient arriver d’ici la fin de l’année, a précisé M. Véran.

La cheffe du gouvernement italien d’extrême droite Giorgia Meloni avait elle dénoncé une réaction française “agressive, incompréhensible et injustifiée”.  

Interrogé sur la différence de traitement par rapport à l’Aquarius, ancien navire de SOS Méditerranée qui avait fini par accoster en Espagne il y a quatre ans, M. Véran a souligné que depuis, “nous avons eu cet accord de répartition des migrants” et “chaque pays européen s’est engagé”.

Deux tiers des migrants de l’Ocean Viking quitteront la France pour être relocalisés dans onze pays.

De son côté, l’ancien ministre de l’Intérieur Gérard Collomb a dénoncé dans Le Point l’ouverture d’une “brèche, créant un précédent” avec l’accostage de l’Ocean Viking à Toulon.

“Pour moi, cela ne peut qu’encourager les réseaux de passeurs pour qui les migrants sont une source de gains considérables (…) A ne s’en tenir qu’à une réaction de sensibilité, on renforce plus le problème qu’on ne le résout, en créant un appel d’air”, a-t-il estimé.

Gérard Collomb, qui avait démissionné en octobre 2018 après avoir déclaré sa candidature à la mairie de Lyon, affirme avoir quitté le gouvernement à l’époque pour protester contre la création éventuelle de “centres contrôlés” de migrants à Toulon ou Marseille.

Il prétend s’être “tu” en 2018 sur les raisons de sa démission: “si j’avais dit cela à l’époque, j’aurais gravement nui à Emmanuel Macron” et Marine Le Pen aurait pu “être élue”.
