Pour célébrer cette longévité hors norme pour une association, « Les Cycas », situés à Chateaubeuf (Fort-de-France) invitent tous les Martiniquais à découvrir ou redécouvrir leur établissement jusqu’au 11 décembre. Des activités, toutes gratuites et ouvertes au grand public, seront proposées. Le but :  faire connaître la structure à travers des rencontres avec les acteurs, les résidants, les partenaires qui ont permis aux « Cycas » de remplir leur mission au service du territoire.

Passerelle vers la vie professionnelle

La structure propose aux jeunes de 16 à 30 ans une solution de logement clé en main comprenant la demi-pension ou la pension complète. 96 logements sont ainsi loués à des tarifs accessibles, afin que chaque jeune puisse optimiser ses chances de trouver un emploi, suivre une formation ou démarrer sa vie professionnelle. Un accompagnement socio-éducatif personnalisé est aussi dispensé, avec l’aide de partenaires comme la MILCEM pour faciliter leur insertion professionnelle : recherche d’emploi, de logement, démarches administratives, activités culturelles et sportives…

L’espoir comme fil rouge

Le thème de l’anniversaire des « Cycas » est l’Espoir. «L’objectif de cet anniversaire est de démontrer à tous les Martiniquais que l’espoir demeure. Depuis 50 ans, nous préparons les jeunes à leur vie de citoyen dans la cité de demain. Grâce à cet événement, nous pourrons valoriser les savoir-faire, savoir-être et talents de nos résidants d’hier et d’aujourd’hui, et montrer que l’insertion est possible ! », explique Franck Piault, directeur de l’établissement.

10 temps forts vont ponctuer le mois anniversaire de la structure autour de 3 thématiques  : s’ouvrir aux Martiniquais ; mettre un coup de projecteur sur les success stories et proposer aux jeunes -résidants ou non- des solutions pour s’insérer dans la vie active.

Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 11, 2022 (SKNIS): Tourism authorities in St. Kitts are mobilizing resources to rebuild the industry and capitalize on the positive momentum gained in the past three months.

At the State of Industry event on Wednesday (November 09), Minister of Tourism, the Honourable Marsha Henderson, said that the destination has generated quite a bit of interest in key markets as global travel and tourism rebound from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“During this month, we will have a total of six inaugural cruise calls which include the world’s largest (cruise) vessel Wonder of the Seas calling on Thursday, 24th November. During this month, we will also begin to see the return of our legacy air carriers who operate seasonally,” Honourable Henderson stated. “I am also cognizant of the challenges of airlift and the need to invest in the tourism plant and room stock. I want to assure you, however, that your government has begun discussions with local and international partners to identify sustainable solutions.”

The St. Kitts Tourism Authority launched its Venture Deeper campaign in September 2022. The campaign offers the opportunity to delve into the island’s distinct characteristics while introducing elements of introspective self-discovery essentially “Kittitianizing visitors.” This is in keeping with current traveller trends.

“We need to recognize and acknowledge this trend and use it to our advantage by allowing our authentic Kittitian experience, history, and culture to headline our experiential tours and dialogues allowing for impactful and genuine distinct visitor experience,” she stated.

“With the new brand campaign and a strong marketing team, committed stakeholders and the Ministry’s and the Authority’s building human capital, we will expand our industry. We will open doors for economic growth for our people as well. We need each of you,” the Minister expressed. “Tourism isn’t just about the hoteliers, the restaurant owners, the taxi and tour bus operators, and our tour guides, But it includes you, the public, the proverbial everyday man/woman on the street. We need the farmers, educators, individuals working at the gas stations and those in the supermarkets. We are all a part of the tourism industry, whether directly or indirectly, and tourism is everyone’s responsibility.”

The event was organized as part of activities to mark Tourism Awareness Month in November.

– Together We Must (TWM), a legally registered non-profit organization in Antigua and Barbuda, recently launched EMERGE, its model Domestic Violence perpetrator’s intervention program; the first of its kind in the twin-island state.

TWM’s EMERGE is a homegrown therapeutic intervention that is supported by UN Women Caribbean through the Spotlight Initiative, a global multi-year partnership between the European Union and the United Nations to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls.

EMERGE will make its rehabilitative services available to 20 men who are between the ages of 18 and 35, residents of Antigua and Barbuda, and have committed the offenses set out in the Domestic Violence Act (2015) (http://laws.gov.ag/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/a2015-27.pdf): specifically any controlling or abusive behavior that harms the health, safety or well-being of an adult or child of the adult they abused.

EMERGE supports efforts to end violence against women and girls by delivering a 1-year domestic violence intervention program that provides (1) coordinated case management services, (2) psychological screening and risk assessment, (3) therapeutic counseling, (4) a 12-week psychoeducational workgroup and (5) a peer support group.

The TWM EMERGE Case Managers will conduct an intake assessment for each applicant. After, qualified psychologists will conduct a psychological screening inclusive of a violence risk assessment.

Once an applicant is accepted into the program, Case Managers will develop a tailored service plan that assists the EMERGE Member in identifying and accessing relevant social and other services in a coordinated manner.

Participation in the TWM EMERGE psychoeducational workgroup is a required component of every EMERGE Member’s service plan. Additionally, the plan may include individual counseling with a TWM EMERGE Psychologist.

The 12-week face-to-face psychoeducational workgroup, aimed at developing participants’ critical awareness of attitudes and beliefs that support the use of violence, while increasing their awareness of the effects of domestic violence, will be delivered by TWM EMERGE Workgroup Facilitators.

TWM EMERGE members who complete the workgroup will continue to meet informally through a peer support group.

To measure EMERGE’s effectiveness in reducing incidents of domestic violence and recidivism TWM will conduct pre and post intervention testing through questionnaires and interviews and collect statistics on DV arrests.

On the 3rd of November TWM EMERGE launched to key stakeholders – Directorate of Gender Affairs, MESH, CariMan, Magistrate’s Court, Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda and Antigua and Barbuda Disability Association – most of whom have participated in ongoing discussions and have provided feedback on the program’s design since late 2021.

Government agencies, community groups, service organizations, churches, etc. are encouraged to refer persons to EMERGE.

RED FORCE captain Nicholas Pooran blazed a century on Wednesday to lead his team to a daunting 312 for six against Barbados, in semifinal one of the CG United Super50 competition.

At the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Antigua, Pooran continued his sensational form with his second List A century.

The left-hander cracked five boundaries and eight sixes in a commanding display, which came off just 82 balls.

It took Pooran top of the run charts with 334 runs from seven matches and a batting average of over 200.

Batting first, Red Force lost Kjorn Ottley (1) and Jason Mohammed (0) cheaply in a brilliant opening spell from pacer Akeem Jordan. But Amir Jangoo (81 off 114 balls) and a resurgent Darren Bravo (54 off 65) repaired the innings with a 92-run partnership.

The wicket of Bravo brought Pooran to the crease, and the West Indies white-ball captain took the attack to the Bajans,

Barbados captain Shai Hope utilised eight bowlers in an attempt to stem the flow of runs, to no avail.

When Jangoo and Pooran fell in the space of nine balls, TT was 256/5 in the 46th over, but Akeal Hosein’s late onslaught (42 off 20, three fours and three sixes) left Barbados demoralised as he took the Red Force past 300.
