Go Myong-hyun, chercheur à l’Asan Institute for Policy Studies.

50 Cent Advice Quavo How To Handle Takeoff’s Legacy

Black Immigrant Daily News

50 Cent wants Quavo to move swiftly on securing Takeoff’s legacy.

The hip-hop community is still reeling from the shocking death of Takeoff. Many veterans in the industry have shared their feelings about the influential rapper’s passing. The tragedy hasn’t been lost on 50 Cent either, who recently paid tribute to Takeoff following the rapper’s tragic death. The successful rapper turned television exec took some time out during a concert in Seinäjoki, Finland, on Tuesday night, November 1, to acknowledge the passing of the Atlanta native.

That was the same day the “Walk It, Talk It” rapper was shot and killed in Houston. The G-Unit leader paid tribute to the fallen rapper by projecting his image on the stage as the Migos‘ “Bad and Boujee” hit blasted through the speakers at the arena. He did a similar thing to honor veteran rapper Coolio who died earlier this year.

“I paid tribute to Takeoff last night in Finland it was lit, GLG GreenLightGang tour let’s get it,” the Power executive producer tweeted yesterday, November 2. The “Many Men” rapper also took some time out to issue some words of advice to Quavo.

The “Candy Shop” rapper is very familiar with how the industry works and offers up some words of wisdom on how Quavo could keep Takeoff’s legacy alive and his contribution remembered for some time to come.

Using Instagram, Fif shared a clip of Pop Smoke’s former manager Steven Victor in which he revealed a conversation that the pair had following the death of the beloved Brooklyn rapper. He shared that he urged Victor to try and work through the grief and focus on finishing and putting out Pop’s posthumous album Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon.

“50 was like, ‘Yo, you’re being selfish. You can’t let your emotions or you being in this depressed state stop you from executing what plans you guys had. Because three weeks ago you guys were in my office talking about taking over the world,’” Victor is quoted as saying in the interview.

In another part of the interview, he explained that 50 asked him the tough questions like who was going to keep the “For The Night” rapper’s legacy going and who was going to make sure his music came out so he could take care of his family?

Victor was appreciative of the tough but prudent advice in the midst of his grief.

It’s pretty much the same advice that 50 Cent wants to pass on to Quavo, as evidenced by his caption.

“This is really how it goes @QuavoStuntin you have to position this Album correctly for Take Offs Legacy, go make a couple changes and address everything all artist make the best music out of painful moments. R.I.P to Pop Smoke R.I.P to TakeOff,” he posted.

Takeoff’s death is still being mourned by many in the industry, including influential artists like Drake, Beyoncé, Future, and T.I.

The latest news surrounding his death suggests that the 28-year-old rapper died after stray bullets penetrated his head and torso into his arm.

In a video recently obtained from TMZ, which was taken just moments before the shooting, a man with a gun was identified by authorities as a person of interest.

Dozens of Shop Stewards Complete Training

The Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union hosted one of the largest gatherings of Shop Stewards to take place in Antigua, as part of a two-day training workshop on Wednesday 26, and Thursday 27 October, 2022.

Having completed the Shop Stewards Training Workshop, more than 80 Shop Stewards will receive certificates of participation.

The activity, which was designed to strengthen capacity and build solidarity among both new and experienced Shop Stewards, consisted of several lectures, interactive presentations, audio-visual presentations and discussions.

In concluding the workshop, ABWU General Secretary, David Massiah, told participants that the Union’s strength depended on the engagement of every Shop Steward.

“We as officers do not have all the knowledge and information; but coming together, we all can be a force to be reckoned with at the end of the day,” Massiah said.

Massiah encouraged participants to follow international developments in the world of work. He warned of significant changes that will impact the workplace as many countries – including Antigua & Barbuda – prepare for a transition to green energy.

The two-day training received overwhelming positive feedback from many participants: “I think the presentations were all on point, and I think the presenters were well selected and they have shown themselves to be very knowledgeable of the material,” one participant remarked.

Industrial Relations and Training Officer at the ABWU, Hazel Luke, described the workshop as a resounding success.

“We have brought together over 95% of the Union’s Shop Stewards, and I think it augers well for the future of this organization. Not only are they better equipped in their roles, but this workshop has also created a platform for future engagements with our Shop Stewards,” Luke explained.

The workshop featured presentations on Divisions “C” and “D” of the Labour Code, as well as lectures on Collective Bargaining and Leadership.

There was also an exploration of the Shop Steward Guide Book, written by the late Sir. Keithlyn Smith.

The facilitators of the workshop were Pascal Kentish, Deputy Labour Commissioner; Kem Warner of KAW Management Services and several Union Officials.

TTUTA: School is sacred ground

Black Immigrant Daily News

Martin Lum Kin’s goal as TTUTA president is to improve the union’s public image. – Marvin Hamilton

TTUTA newly-elected president Martin Lum Kin reacted to a video of small children cowering from nearby gunfire at Rose Hill RC Primary School by saying the school was “sacred ground” and urging gangsters to put down their guns and live in peace. He spoke to Newsday on Thursday, the day after the country was shocked by a online post showing a teacher telling her young pupils to stay on the floor and calmly explaining that two gangs were exchanging gun shots nearby.

Lum Kin commended the unidentified female teacher and her principal and other staff for having instituted drills by pupils in case of gunfire.

“It is very disturbing this happened near a school which is supposed to be a safe haven where students should have the best days of their lives. We are very concerned, but mindful of the reality.

“Gunplay has been getting closer and closer to the school compound.”

He said the school had been closed for a while after the shooting but short-term measures were needed.

Lum Kin commended the Ministry of Education for providing counselling for staff and pupils.

“We are looking forward to meeting the ministry, Catholic Board of Education, Ministry of National Security, police service, and all community-based organisations.”

He said school was an important part of the community, while noting that teachers must feel safe at that location in order to teach their pupils.

Lum Kin said short-term measures were needed to bring relief to teachers, school administrators and pupils.

Asked about specific concrete measures, he replied, “The idea of relocation or police posts has to be discussed (by the ministry) with TTUTA.”

Newsday asked if he had any message to the gunmen.

“TTUTA would like to say to those persons, ‘Please put down the guns.’” He said incidents such as at Rose Hill were very sad to see happening.

“TTUTA would like to say, please put down the guns. Have a level of truce, or even to have schools and the environment to be safe zones.

“In the first instance, let’s stop the violence.”

Lum Kin urged peace in the community.

“We deem school to be sacred grounds, where learning, teaching and development take place.

“Around the school should be sacred ground where people feel safe.” He pledged TTUTA’s help towards ensuring teachers have a safe working environment.

Lum Kin commended all school administrators and teachers who were persevering under difficult circumstances. “TTUTA will be there for you.” He commended the Rose Hill female teacher for acting in such a calm manner under very trying conditions, possibly even exposing herself to risk. “I know teachers do this on a daily basis. They put themselves second and the students first.”

He said TTUTA was arranging to meet the Ministry of Education over the incident.
