Entertainer Spice not in a coma, says booking agent Loop Cayman Islands

Black Immigrant Daily News

Dancehall star Spice is not in a coma, according to her booking agent Ray Alexander.

“She didn’t suffer a heart attack and she is not in a coma,” Alexander told Loop News on Wednesday evening.

The booking agent dispelled the rumours, which reportedly started with news that the ‘So Mi Like It’ singer had developed complications during a cosmetic medical procedure at an undisclosed medical facility in the Dominican Republic.

Even Minister Marion Hall, the dancehall artiste-turned-Christian formerly known as Lady Saw and the former queen of dancehall, urged her followers to pray for the current queen of dancehall during a livestream on Wednesday.

Despite Alexander insisting the comments are rumours, this would not be Spice’s first time under the knife as she previously had cosmetic surgery in 2020. In November of that year, she shared a photo of her “new designer body” to her Instagram page.

Cosmetic surgery enhances appearance for non-medical reasons, addressing physical features that can bring a person closer to their ideal body image.

The entertainer — whose given name is Grace Hamilton — is known for a slew of hit songs, such as ‘Send It Up’, ‘Sheet’, ‘Indicator’, ‘Genie’, and ‘Fight Over Man’, and ‘Romping Shop’ featuring Vybz Kartel.

Just over two weeks ago, in a post to her Instagram page, the recording artiste said she would be taking a break from social media. Since sharing that on October 17, no new posts have been made to her Instagram account.

In fact, if one checked her Instagram account, they would see only posts related to her latest album ‘Emancipated’, which debuted at No 7 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart.

Her debut album ’10’ was nominated for Best Reggae Album last year.

In recent years, Spice has expanded her brand beyond the confines of dancehall, co-starring in the VH1 reality series Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta, and championing her own clothing line, Graci Noir.

RCIPS police helicopter assists with rescue of 14 Cuba migrants at sea Loop Cayman Islands

Black Immigrant Daily News

Fourteen migrants from Cuba were rescued at sea by personnel from the Cayman Islands Coast Guard Operations & Rescue Coordination Centre (ORCC), and the Royal Cayman Island Police Service Air Operations Unit Thursday morning.

The authorities were alerted to the distressed migrants by three “irregular migrants” who reached the shores of Cayman Brac and were met by the police and Cayman Islands Customs and Border Control officers.

The migrants informed the officers that they had left Cuba several days before and had passed another vessel about 55 nautical miles northeast of Cayman Brac some 18 hours earlier, according to a statement from the RCIPS.

The vessel had broken down and was adrift with a large number of occupants.

A search and rescue operation was commenced.

The helicopter crew aboard X-Ray 2 arrived off Cayman Brac shortly after 10am and commenced a search towards the direction of Cuba aided by drift analysis from the US Coast Guard.

Shortly before 10:30am, the X-Ray 2 crew spotted the Cuban vessel 18 nautical miles east of Cayman Brac, and on investigation saw that there were signs of distress amongst some of the boat occupants and that others were signalling for help.

The authorities were aided by a private yacht, which was in the vicinity and ultimately assisted with transport back to Cayman Brac.

“From the vessel being sighted by the X-Ray 2 crew to assistance coming alongside was a period of two hours,” according to the statement from the RCIPS. “Due to the time delay anticipated for the rescue, the crew of X-Ray 2 lowered two gallons of fresh water to the vessel, and a Spanish-speaking crew member, used the helicopter PA system to communicate with the boat occupants to inform and reassure them of the rescue efforts.”

Fourteen occupants were accounted for on the boat, 13 males and 1 female. Three of them were assessed to be in need of critical medical attention. All occupants were conveyed to Cayman Brac where they received medical attention and were processed.

It transpired that the Cuban vessel had suffered engine failure and had been adrift for seven days, and drinking water on the boat had been exhausted the day before.

Chang promises privacy for those who make use of gun amnesty Loop Jamaica

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Jamaica News Loop News

The identity of persons who hand over firearms and ammunition during the gun amnesty that is scheduled to take effect on November 5, will not be disclosed.

This assurance was given by the Minister of National Security, Dr Horace Chang, as he tabled and debated the Firearms (Prohibition, Restriction and Regulation) (Firearms Amnesty) Order 2022 in the House of Representatives on Tuesday. The amnesty will remain in force for two weeks until midnight on Saturday, November 19.

“I want to emphasise that the aim of this measure is not to reveal the identities of the persons who comply with the amnesty,” Chang said.

He noted that the amnesty is also intended to provide an opportunity for licence holders who are in possession of expired authorisations to surrender their weapons to the Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA).

The security minister explained that firearms or ammunition may be surrendered to any sub-officer or senior sub-officer on duty at any police station; any designated officer at any FLA location; or to an attorney-at-law on behalf of an individual seeking the amnesty for the attorney to deliver the firearm or ammunition to the nearest police station.

“I am urging those possessing illegal firearms or ammunition to make full use of the amnesty, because when it expires on November 19, 2022, those who refuse to surrender their firearms and ammunition, once convicted, will face stiff penalties,” Chang stated.

He said that a firearm amnesty was not unique to Jamaica “because they have been used successfully around the world as an operational tool to reduce the high levels of armed violence resulting from the proliferation of firearms and ammunition”.

Chang, who is also deputy prime minister, lamented that for the last 25 years, Jamaica recorded on average 1,270 murders annually, the vast majority being committed with illegal firearms.

“The firearm is the weapon of choice for murders and other acts of crime and armed violence in Jamaica. The proliferation of illegal firearms continues to hinder national growth and advancement, and has become the biggest threat to citizens’ peace and security,” he said.

He shared that the security forces have maintained a steady rate of firearm seizures over the years.

“Since 2018, the security forces have taken more than 3,200 illegal firearms from the streets and in excess of 53,000 rounds of ammunition. Each year, they have seized upwards of 625 firearms. In fact, as at October 31, 2022, a total of 652 firearms have been seized. This represents an 11 per cent increase over the 585 recorded for the similar period in 2021,” said Chang.

Couple beefs up Portmore’s dining experience with Timber Lounge Loop Jamaica

When Sean-Paul Morgan and Kadian Thomas established a bar and grill three years ago in Portmore, St Catherine, the selling point they pitched to patrons was: “you don’t have to cross the toll for a good time”.

“Cross the toll”, is in reference to accessing the Portmore Toll the road connecting Kingston and St Andrew and Portmore.

The idea was to provide a space offering fun, entertainment and delectable meals to residents of Portmore, removing the need to travel into Kingston for such an option.

Conversely, residents of Kingston often make their way to Portmore for the Timber Lounge experience, according to Thomas.

Though not their first business venture, the couple admits that they are still learning the intricacies of the food service industry.

Nonetheless, they have successfully built a widely-known brand, which boasts over 23,000 followers on Instagram.

Morgan and Thomas also operate Creep in Closet, a retail store that offers children’s clothes and toys, a business they started in 2013.
