Seven of the eight countries who have won the coveted FIFA World Cup(TM) trophy are present at this year’s tournament and it is promised to be the most competitive one ever.

One of those teams is two-time champions Uruguay, who are participating in their 14th FIFA World Cup(TM).

“La Celeste” won the inaugural World Cup in 1930 and claimed their second title 20 years later.

Since their last triumph in Brazil, Uruguay have only come as close as the semifinals, where they eventually finished fourth three times (1954, 1970,2010).

In the last edition of the competition, they played an aggressive, yet stylish brand of football, which earned them a place in the quarterfinals, where they were eliminated by tournament champions France.

Uruguay’s roster is well balanced, with dynamism and experience, and can be surprised package in Qatar.

Country: Uruguay

Capital: Montevideo

Population: 3.4 million

Confederation: CONMEBOL (South America)

Group: H

Professional League: Liga Professional de Primera

World Cup appearances: 14 (2022)

Qualification status: 3rd place in CONMEBOL Qualifiers

Key players: Matias Vecino (Lazio, Italy), Rodrigo Bentancur (Tottenham, England), Federico Valverde (Real Madrid, Spain), Luis Suarez (Nacional, Uruguay), Derwin Nunez (Liverpool, England)

Coach: Diego Alonso (Uruguyan)

Group mates: Portugal, Ghana, South Korea

Predictions: Uruguay has not gone out at the group stage since 2002 and I do not expect them to do so in 2022.

Qualification for the Round of 16 should be attainable and maybe even a place in the last eight of the tournament.

Feel left out? Humanitarian Awards Appeal Committee open Loop Barbados

The Humanitarian Award initiative is seeking to appreciate all essential workers who made worthwhile and consistent contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Reiterating this and giving assurance to anyone who feels as though they have been omitted is Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office with responsibility for Culture, Senator Dr Shantal Munro-Knight.

Outlining the selection process as the second cohort of frontline workers are set to receive their awards on Sunday, November 20, in a press statement, Senator Munro-Knight said, “the Government values the commitment and dedication of all frontline workers, who put their lives on the line during the height of the pandemic to control the spread of COVID-19.

The Humanitarian Awards are intended for persons who went above and beyond the call of duty. Your efforts to put country before self will never be forgotten and the Government values all of you.

To ensure that all concerns are heard, we have put an appeals process in place for those persons who feel that they should be considered for an award but may have been inadvertently left out. All persons who believe that they were inadvertently left out by their agency, can submit their queries to the Appeals Committee at: national.awards@barbados.gov.bb.

Additionally, persons may speak to their employers to ensure that they qualify for the award and that the information was submitted.

Government remains committed to honouring its pledge of awarding $500 to recipients of the Humanitarian Award.”

She also gave a payments update stating, “A substantial amount of payments has already been lodged and the remainder will be made available as soon as possible. The Government is appealing to awardees to be patient as they process the payments.”

SEC questions American CryptoFed about omission of material info Loop Cayman Islands

Black Immigrant Daily News

Loop News

The Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) said yesterday (November 18) that they are looking into American CryptoFed DAO LLC, a company established in Wyoming on July 1, 2021 as a “Decentralized Autonomous Organization” (“DAO”), for allegedly omitting material information required to be provided in the Registration Statement by the Form S-1, Regulation S-X, and Regulation S-K.

The alleged, material omissions, according to the SEC, are particularized as follows:

Registration Statement does not contain any financial statements, audited or otherwise as requiredRegistration Statement does not address the specific disclosure requirements (e.g., disclosure of management’s discussion and analysis of the registrant’s financial condition and results of operations)Registration Statement does not include information required by Item 403 of Regulation S-K, which requires a tabular disclosure of security ownership of directors and executive officers and greater than 5% holders, including the total number of shares beneficially owned and the percentage of the class so owned for each such beneficial ownerRegistration Statement does not include compensation disclosure for each of American CryptoFed’s three organizers, nor does it include a table with any of the required informationRegistration Statement does not include information on any material contractsRegistration Statement does not include an opinion of counsel as to the legality of the securities being registered

In addition to the foregoing, the SEC alleges that American CryptoFed’s Registration Statement contains materially misleading statements as American CryptoFed allegedly stated that the Ducat and Locke tokens to be offered by American CryptoFed are not securities, which is inconsistent with the statement identifying those tokens as “Securities to be Registered.”

The SEC said this is also inconsistent with American CryptoFed’s use of the Registration Statement to register the offer and sale of the tokens under the Securities Act.

As these statements contained in American CryptoFed’s contradict each other, regardless of whether the tokens are securities, the SEC said that one of the statements must be false.

In connection with the foregoing, it is understood that the SEC issued a subpoena on June 15, 2022 requesting documents to confirm its assertions, however, American CryptoFed allegedly did not produce any documents to the SEC.

As a result, an order has now been issued that public proceedings be instituted under Section 8(d) of the Securities Act, with a hearing to be commenced at 10:00am on December 1, 2022, to determine whether the allegations of the Division of Enforcement of the SEC are true, to afford American CryptoFed with an opportunity to establish any defenses to these allegations, and to determine whether a stop order should issue suspending the effectiveness of the Registration Statement.
