Man allegedly shoots ex-wife’s lover after finding them in hot tub Loop Jamaica

A furious man allegedly shot his ex-wife’s young lover dead after finding them romping together in a jacuzzi in Thailand.

Rungroj Tongyoi, 40, allegedly caught his “ex-wife” Benchamas Phukam, 39, making out with her younger boyfriend Yuttaphan Phungnuam, 27, in the hot tub outside their room at a resort in Khon Kaen province, Thailand, on September 7.

Enraged, Rungroj allegedly shot three bullets at the young man, who bled to death in the jacuzzi. There were several bottles of beer next to the jacuzzi, which the lovers had been drinking.

Rungroj reportedly fled the hotel with his shocked wife while the dead lover’s body was discovered in the blood-filled tub by hotel staff in the morning when they called on him for breakfast.

The resort owner, who refused to reveal his name, said: “The husband arrived on an old motorcycle. He was rude, and he refused to show accommodation booking documents. He also did not fill in the guest form. We did not want to lose a customer, so we allowed him to stay.

“After entering room number 4, he did not put on the lights or order any food and drinks with the resort. There was no form of communication with him.”

Investigating officers said that the former wife, Benchamas, booked a room through the resort’s Facebook page on September 1. She informed the resort she would arrive on September 7 at 2pm.

The woman arrived with her younger boyfriend, Yuttaphan and stayed in room number three while the husband was able to book a room by walking in. He took room number 4, which was next to his wife and her lover.

However, the hotel owner added that they heard a loud bang like gunshots at night.

He added: “However, at 8pm, we were informed by one of the guests that they heard three gunshots. I sent my daughter-in-law to check the situation and found that Rungroj was holding hands with the woman in room number 3.

“He told my daughter-in-law that they would return. The pair looked worried, and they left my resort in the woman’s car but never returned.”

Police said that Rungroj fled the hotel with his shocked wife and attempted to cross the border to Myanmar in Lampang province, but he was tracked down and arrested by officers before he could.

Using the wife’s car, the pair passed through a public service point in Ko Kha Highway Patrol. Officers found that the vehicle matched the description and immediately arrested the couple.

They have both been remanded in custody.

Major General Noppakao Somanat said: “The shooter drove a white Mercedes and parked it at another resort, about a mile from his ex-wife’s resort. He then borrowed his employee’s motorcycle and went to where his ex-wife was staying.

“The shooter stalked his ex-wife before going to her room and used a 9mm firearm to fire three shots at the deceased in the neck and torso area in the outdoor bathtub.

“We investigated and identified the shooter and their decreased identity. Surveillance footage showed that the couple’s escape route was towards the north.

“Benchamas was sitting in the passenger seat when police caught the couple. A 9mm was also found in the car. We believe it is the same weapon used to kill Yuttaphan.”

However, during questioning, the husband reportedly told police that his wife wanted the young boyfriend dead. They are now interrogating her as well.

Major General Noppakao added: “Rungroj claimed that his ex-wife ordered him to kill the young man as Yuttaphan was struggling financially. Meanwhile, Benchamas told police that Rungroj stalked her and used a gun to force her to escape.

“Records show that Rungroj and Benchamas only separated a few months ago. We believe the incident was caused by jealousy. Rungroj had been arrested for attempted murder and firearm offences before. He is a popular businessman in Mahachai Market, Samut Sakhon Province.”

Officers have filed charges against Rungroj for murder and carrying a firearm without permission. He is being held in custody for further questioning before being formally charged at court.

WHILE the UK mourned its queen, the day after her death, TT’s Prime Minister and his energy minister were busy holding high-level talks with senior members of Shell on Friday in The Hague, Netherlands.

Chief among the topics discussed, according to a release from the Office of the Prime Minister, was the imminent conclusion of the commercial restructuring of Atlantic.

This, the release said, would enable future upstream developments, especially the Manatee project, which has the potential to bring online one of the most significant gas developments in recent years.

Dr Rowley and Energy Minister Stuart Young also discussed Shell’s current and future development projects in this country.

The meeting was hosted by Wael Sawan, director of Integrated Gas and Renewable Energy Solutions; Cederic Cremers, executive vice president for LNG; Eugene Okpere, senior vice president and country chair for Shell TT; and Anders Ekvall, business opportunity manager for Shell.

Both parties acknowledged the success of their continued collaboration, the release said, which resulted in an increase in Shell’s production over the last five years, since the company re-entered the upstream market in 2016.

This co-operation between Trinidad and Tobago and Shell unlocked projects such as Starfish, Barracuda and Colibri and resulted in an incease of over 30 per cent in production over the period, with current production of approximately 850 million standard cubic feet of gas as of Friday – a seven-year high for Shell in TT.

Rowley and Young also received presentations on Shell’s global business on LNG, Hydrogen and on carbon-capture utilisation and storage (CCUS).

The Shell team lauded the PM and Young for their continued co-operation in developing this country’s gas production and reaffirmed their intention to sustain and grow competitive energy resources in TT.

Friday’s meeting came on the heels of similar meetings Rowley and Young held with British Petroleum (BP) execs on Thursday – the day the queen died.

The PM and Young met on that day with BP CEO Bernard Looney at BP’s headquarters in London. At this meeting, BP updated Rowley on its plans for future gas production in TT.

Rowley and his team left TT on September 2 for meetings in Switzerland, the UK and the Netherlands with executives of Proman, BP and Shell.

Kingston Creative launches database of 370 Caribbean artists Loop Jamaica

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Jamaica News Loop News

Kingston Creative has launched the Caribbean Creative Network (CCN), a public, searchable online database of artists and cultural and creative industry stakeholders.

The new platform is sponsored by IDB Lab, the Development Bank of Jamaica (DBJ), and the American Friends of Jamaica.

A total of 370 creatives from 21 countries across the Caribbean are already listed on the network. Their portfolios can be viewed at www.caribbeancreativenetwork.org.

“This new database is crucial to strengthening the digital footprint of Caribbean artists, making our work more visible to potential clients, investors, and colleagues,” said Tahja Winkle, a Jamaican animator and visual artist.

“Visibility unlocks opportunity, and opportunity grants access to income. Our ability to compete with our international colleagues in the digital marketplace has now been strengthened. If the Caribbean is serious about sustainable development, empowering our creatives to reach a global audience with our work (without requiring large amounts of startup capital) is essential.”

The intention of the CCN is to create a way for creatives to gain international market access. This ultimately should improve the ability of artists to earn from their creativity, develop their creative businesses and stimulate growth in the creative economy in the region.

“The DBJ, through BIGEE, is delighted to partner with Kingston Creative in facilitating this growth and development of Jamaica’s Creatives,” said Christopher Brown, Project Manager, DBJ’s Boosting Innovation Growth and Entrepreneurship Ecosystems (BIGEE).

Christopher Brown, Project Manager, DBJ’s Boosting Innovation Growth and Entrepreneurship Ecosystems (BIGEE).

“We are committed to unlocking the entrepreneurship side of our creatives to maximise the value and sustainability of their talent.”

“The Caribbean Creative Network allows creatives to sign up, upload pictures of themselves and their work, provide an artist bio, and be contacted directly via email, web, and social media. The process of signing up is quite simple, and we hope all creatives across the region will take this opportunity to join the network and start doing business globally,” said Andrea Dempster Chung, Executive Director and Co-founder of Kingston Creative.

“Not only does it allow potential customers to find creatives, it also allows employers or companies seeking creative talent to list jobs and opportunities on the platform and get their positions filled easily.”

The CCN, therefore, can potentially stimulate growth within the cultural and creative industries, ultimately having a positive impact on the economies of the region.

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Cayman Compass

Here are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions by Caymanians in the wake of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday. The below is from the Government of the Cayman Islands.

How did Her Late Majesty pass? Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II passed away peacefully at Balmoral on the afternoon of 8 September.

How long is the National Mourning period?Eleven days, beginning from the announcement that Her Late Majesty The Queen passed away until 8:00am on the day after the State Funeral.

When will her funeral take place? We expect her funeral to take place on Monday 19 September but are awaiting official confirmation.

Will there be a public holiday? The day of Her Late Majesty The Queen’s State Funeral will be declared a public holiday in the Cayman Islands. The date of the funeral is yet to be announced by Buckingham Palace. It is expected to take place in less than two weeks’ time. The public holiday in the Cayman Islands will be confirmed at a later date.

When should flags be half-masted?All flags, both the Cayman Islands flag and the Union Jack, will be flown at half-mast until 8:00am on the day after the State Funeral. One exception will be during the period of the Proclamation of the new Sovereign – at which time they will be raised as King Charles III accedes to the throne. This exception will be the raising of flags to full mast on the day of the meeting of the Accession Council in the UK until the end of the local ceremony for the proclamation of the new Sovereign which will happen on the following day. Flags will then once again be half-masted for the remainder of the National Mourning period.

Will there be a memorial service in Cayman? The Cayman Islands is planning its own special service of commemoration. Details will be announced later but the service will take place sometime after the State Funeral in the United Kingdom.

Will schools close?Yes, schools will only be closed on the public holiday (the day of the State Funeral). This date has yet to be confirmed.

Should events scheduled during the National Mourning period be cancelled? As a mark of respect, it may be appropriate to cancel, postpone or modify events which had been planned during this period. Particular consideration should be given to any events scheduled for the day of the State Funeral itself. It is unlikely to be appropriate to go ahead with any events on that day. If an event goes ahead, organisers may consider observing a minute’s silence or making a similar gesture. In general, careful consideration should also be given to the types of events being held or promoted during the period of National Mourning. In displaying our collective sense of respect and grief, organisers may wish to reconsider festive or celebratory events. However, smaller private/family events like weddings or children’s birthday parties are appropriate to proceed.

Will Cayman Islands Events (12-15 September at the Ritz Carlton) hosted by CTO (Caribbean Tourism Association) and the Ministry and Department of Tourism be cancelled? The main conference activities will go ahead as planned with social engagements being modified and/or muted as a mark of respect for Her Late Majesty The Queen.

Will Caribbean Aviation Day events (14 September) be cancelled?Hosted by IATA (International Air Transport Association), Ministry and Department of Tourism, and CTOBusiness-related events will go ahead as planned with social engagements being modified and/or muted as a mark of respect for Her Late Majesty The Queen.

Will the Miss World Cayman Islands Pageant (17 September) be cancelled? It will be postponed, not cancelled. The new date will be announced by the organisers.

Will sporting events be cancelled? It is expected that most sporting events will be postponed until after the period of National Mourning.

When will the Cayman Islands have their moment of national silence?A two-minute national silence is planned throughout the UK to coincide with the concluding moments of the State Funeral Service in Westminster Abbey (around 11:54am UK time, or 5:54am Cayman time). The CIG will announce the time for the local moment of silence once the date of the State Funeral is confirmed.

What is the dress code for public servants? All public servants are encouraged to dress sensitively (e.g. muted colours) if out on official business. Uniformed services should wear black armbands while on duty.

Where can I go to sign the condolence book?Physical condolence books will be opened to the community to sign beginning from Friday, 9 September until the day of the State Funeral, and can be found at the Government Administration Building in Grand Cayman and District Administration Building in Cayman Brac. These buildings are open during usual business hours of 8:30am to 5:00pm and the physical condolence books may be signed during these hours.

A calendar showing when an additional condolence book will be taken to each district will be publicised this weekend. A digital condolence book is also available here. Alternatively, you may also sign the digital book of condolences on the Royal.UK website.

Where can I place flowers?Floral tributes or bouquets can be left on the steps of the Government Administration Building and the front gates of Government House.

Who will represent the Cayman Islands at the funeral in the UK?The Governor and the Premier will travel to London to attend the State Funeral Service in Westminster Abbey. In addition, The Governor and the Premier’s respective spouses as well as the UK Representative have also been invited to the Lying-in-State (at Westminster Hall) and the Formal Signing of the Condolence Book at Lancaster House.

Will the Cayman Islands participate in the Gun Salutes? On Friday, 9 September, there will be a 96 Gun Salute at Government House. This will be live streamed on Government digital channels starting at 9:55am.

When will the images on the currency of the Cayman Islands be updated to have The King on it? And how does the change happen? They will be phased out over time.

While older “A” and “B” series banknotes have been withdrawn, no denominations or issues of currency have been devalued. All notes and coins issued by the Cayman Islands Currency Board and the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority remain legal tender and can be redeemed for face value at any of the local commercial banks or at the Authority’s Currency Division located on the Ground Floor of the Government Administration Building, George Town.

What is an appropriate way to speak of The Queen now that she has passed? You may refer to Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Where can I find more information about Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II?You can learn more about Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the Royal UK website.

How long did Queen Elizabeth II reign?70 years. Her Late Majesty The Queen reigned longer than any British monarch, taking the throne in 1952, at the young age of 25. In June of this year, we celebrated the first-ever Platinum Jubilee to mark her historic seven-decade reign.

What will happen to official seals and envelopes that currently say “On Her Majesty’s Service”?They will continue to be used until instructions are received that the new seals are to be used from then on, and that any superseded seals are to be disposed of.

Will the Cayman Islands Government operate differently during the National Mourning period?During this period, communication from the Cayman Islands Government will be limited to information about Her Late Majesty the Queen, the State Funeral, Proclamation of the new Sovereign and related events. This includes press releases and posts on social media channels. However, all public policies, services and programmes will continue to be delivered as usual.
