The Cayman Island premier has pledged the country’s loyalty to the British Crown in the wake of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing on Thursday.

“As our Head of State, our loyalty to the British Crown was strongest and most heartfelt under her reign. We remain loyal to the British Crown, but it has definitely lost one of its most precious jewels,” Premier G Wayne Panton said in a statement.

Panton’s expression of loyalty is sure to stand out in the region as countries, including Jamaica, are considering moving away from the British sovereign as head of state and shifting to a republic.

Barbados led the way becoming a republic last November.

Queen Elizabeth passed away at the age of 96.

Premier Panton described The Queen as “a defender of the faith and a stalwart wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother”.

During her reign, The Queen visited the Cayman Islands twice and embraced the people of the Cayman Islands.

“Memories of those occasions live on within the hearts of the many Caymanians who had the opportunity to meet her during those times,” Governor Martyn Roper said in a previous statement.

Condolence books will be opened to the community to sign beginning on Friday 9 September and can be found at the Government Administration Building in Grand Cayman and District Administration Building in Cayman Brac.

Floral tributes can be left on the steps of the Government Administration Building and the front gates of Government House.

The day of The Queen’s State funeral will be declared a public holiday.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has joined several other world leaders in expressing profound sadness at the passing of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday.

Queen Elizabeth II was the longest-reigning British monarch, whose reign spanned seven decades.

She died at age 96.

Holness described her as a portrait of dignity in how she conducted her duties.

Her eldest son, King Charles III, formerly the rince of Wales, has assumed the reigns of head of the British monarchy.

Additionally, he is now the Head of State of 14 Commonwealth nations, including Jamaica.

Double murder victims were managers at Royalton Antigua

One person is allegedly in custody, assisting the Police with investigations into what appear to be double murders at a Pillar Rock residence on Wednesday, September 7.

News quickly went into circulation late that night, after the body of a Mexican man was found in the pool, shortly after 9:30 p.m.

The man reportedly had what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head. However, the Police are reporting that he also had multiple gunshot wounds to his body.

In a press release, the Police said that a search was mounted for another male who was discovered missing at around the same time.

However, a body found floating in the pool early Thursday, September 8, is believed to be that person. A source claims the pool is very deep, and that is why investigators might have missed the second body, which also bore multiple gunshot wounds.

Reports say the sound of gunshots had been heard by a police officer working at the Royalton Antigua Resort, where the slain men had held the positions of Human Resources Manager and Accounting Manager, respectively.

Only Cesar Santos Ramirez, 36, has been identified, so far. The name of the older man, aged 39, has not been released pending further investigations.

A source tells REAL News that one of the victims reportedly arrived here only about three weeks ago.

As part of their investigations, the Police were in search of a young man who, reportedly, is now being questioned about the double homicide – the circumstances of which are still unclear.

These two latest homicides are numbers seven and eight for the year 2022. However, they are the second double murders in less than two months.

Police investigations continue into the killing of a Golden Grove couple on Wednesday, July 20. Pia Visser-Baptiste, 61, and her husband, Tyrone Baptiste, 64, were found shot to death in their home by one of the women’s employees, after she had failed to show up to work.

No one has been arrested for these homicides, to date.

Post-mortem examinations on the couple confirmed they had died as a result of gunshot injuries.

THA agrees to six-month extension of Tobago airport project

THE THA is supporting a six-month extension requested by residents affected by the construction of a new airport terminal at the ANR Robinson International Airport.

On August 26, residents in Zone D of the project, on Crompton Trace, off Silk Cotton Trace, were given until September 15 to vacate their properties. They have now asked for an additional six months.

The residents, said Chief Secretary Farley Augustine, were expected to return to court on Friday, as he addressed Thursday’s virtual post Executive Council media briefing.

Augustine said the matter was discussed extensively at this week’s’ Executive Council meeting.

“The THA has agreed with that extension of six months, because that will allow us the opportunity to in the most humane way facilitate people being moved. I can tell you that the state agencies from out of Trinidad, they have not agreed with the six months, so it’s left to see what the ourt will decide.”

He said it wasn’t just a matter of packing up.

“Some want to save things like their windows, or the roofing, and some critical material components that they believe would assist them in their rebuild.

“So we support that call…for the additional six-month window that is being requested by the residents that are there.”

He said notwithstanding what the court decided, the THA had decided some things would be done “to ensure that those who are affected will be treated in the most humane manner.”

“We feel in that six months, we could complete the works at Cove and Shirvan. We can even take on the gargantuan task of getting some housing units completed in time to facilitate them (there).”

He said at present, three units are available to those in immediate need and would be ready for occupation by Friday.

He said the Executive Council also decided to get some storage for the residents.

“That too will facilitate an effortless flow for those,as they eventually get to move.”

He said the Division of Infrastructure, Quarries and Public Utilities is also assiduously to complete work on the developments at both Cove and Shirvan.

He said the THA’s position has always been consistent

“We agree, we do need a new terminal. Howeve, we feel strongly that the residents must be treated fairly, they must be compensated fairly, and they must be given sufficient time in which they can move.”

He said some of the residents had finally agreed on some of the compensation they are to be given, while others still see the sum being offered as inadequate and have not accepted.

He said while all that is happening, he had one appeal “to the Central Government and the ministers involved and the prime minister, to ensure that we allow for the most humane movement of people.

“We are talking about taking lands from families – they are dispossessing them and turning them out on the streets.

“We have to be careful that in this process, that we don’t destroy the social fabric of the Crown Point area.”

Absent et non représenté lors du procès, il a écopé de 8000€ d’amende, ainsi que 10.000€ et 5000€ de dommage et intérêt à payer aux parties civiles; le maire du Gosier et son directeur de cabinet.Aucune trace de vidéo de ce type n’a été retrouvée ou transmise à la Justice.Deux autres procédures sont en cours visant le mis en cause qui vit aujourd’hui en Gironde a rappelé le Procureur de la République.

Governor Martyn Roper said Queen Elizabeth II has served with dignity and over the past 70 years and described her death on Thursday as “terribly sad news”.

The governor said in a statement: “It is with profound sadness that we have learnt of the passing of Her Majesty The Queen on the afternoon of 8 September at Balmoral.

“The death of our much-loved, and longest-serving monarch, will, I know, be terribly sad news for people across our three Islands of Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, as well as across the entire world.

“Her Majesty The Queen served the United Kingdom, Commonwealth, Realms and Overseas Territories with quiet dignity and powerful diplomacy for over 70 years.”

Roper said Queen Elizabeth has been “an inspirational role model and given outstanding service throughout our lives”.

He added: “She is the only Monarch that very many of us have ever known. Her loss will be keenly felt. She is unlike any other Monarch in history.

Roper said that he knows from his four years as governor of the Cayman Islands, “just how much affection and respect, Caymanians had for The Queen.

He said The Queen’s two visits to the islands in 1983 and 1994 “are warmly remembered today by so many”.

The governor added: “We were able to celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee this year with an extraordinarily wide variety of events across our three islands reflecting the depth of feeling towards Her Majesty.

“I had the pleasure of meeting Her Majesty three times during my career, including at Windsor Castle on taking up my role as governor of the Cayman Islands. Her Majesty vividly recalled details of her visits here.

“Many of you will have your own personal recollections of Royal moments in your lives, whether it was watching her coronation, meeting her, or celebrating her visits to Cayman or elsewhere.”

He said the King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.

Roper said the Queen symbolised stability and permanence for over seven decades.

He added: “She exemplified outstanding public duty. I know the thoughts and prayers of all of us in the Cayman Islands are with members of the Royal Family at this difficult and sad time.”

Queen Elizabeth II has been remembered as a pillar of strength and inspirational stateswoman by leaders of the Caribbean following news of her death.

Her majesty passed away this afternoon at Balmoral Castle in Scotland where she was being observed by a medical team after her health took a turn for the worse.

She was 96.

The queen, who has recently celebrated her 70th anniversary as monarch, was the head of state of eight countries and five colonies in the Caribbean.

Premier David Burt of Bermuda was the first leader of the Caribbean colonies to send his condolences to Queen Elizabeth II.

“A life of undimmed duty, a model of strength and devotion to country…On behalf of the Government and people of Bermuda, I express sincere condolences to the Royal Family and the people of the United Kingdom.” Burt said.

Cayman Islands Premier Wayne Panton said: “I, on behalf of the Cayman Islands, join others from around the world in offering our condolences to the Royal Family. It is our prayer that God grants them the grace and peace to get through this difficult time. May God be with and comfort us all.”

Panton also acknowledged Prince Charles’ ascension to the throne as King Charles III.

President Dr Mohammed Irfaan Ali sent his condolences to the Royal Family and people of the UK, saying Guyanese people will always remember Her Majesty’s visits to the country.

“I join all Guyanese in expressing our profound and deepest sorrow at the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. Her passing marks the end of an era in the history of the British Monarchy, the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth of Nations,” he said

“Queen Elizabeth’s place in history is assured and her legacy is intact. Her long and impactful reign has helped to shape the post-World War II world. Her Majesty has been a source of stability for her country. She will be long remembered for her sterling leadership of the Commonwealth of Nations.”

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said the people of Dominica are saddened at the news of Her Majesty’s death.

“Our prayers are with the Royal Family during this period of grief. Her passing ends an iconic 70-year reign and is a profound loss for the Commonwealth of Nations and the world. May she rest in peace,” he said.

St Lucian Opposition Leader,Allen Chastanet, said: “For the last 70 years, Queen Elizabeth reigned with honour and distinction. My thoughts and prayers are with the royal family and all those across the globe who mourn her passing. May she rest in peace eternally.”

Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness sent condolences to the Royal Family, saying that he has them in his prayers.

T&T Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley remembered the Queen for her dedication and service to the people of the UK and the wider Commonwealth of Nations.

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley has joined several other regional leaders in expressing condolences to King Charles III on the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, Rowley said that “after reigning for 70 years, Her Majesty has left a lasting legacy for the people of the UK and the world.”

The prime minister also recalled the promise that the queen had made at the age of 21, when she pledged her life to the service of her people.

“That promise,” the statement continued, “was refreshed on her coronation day when she asked for ‘God’s help to make that vow…”

Rowley also noted that the life Queen Elizabeth lived was marked by her strong sense of duty and dedication.

He recalled the queen’s previous visits to Trinidad and Tobago, the most recent of which was in 2009 when she attended the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting.

According to Rowley, “although Trinidad and Tobago gained its Independence and later became a republic, this country recognises the lasting legacy of Her Majesty.”

He said she will be remembered for her selfless duty to the Commonwealth.
