President Biden tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday, days after he logged a negative test after taking Paxlovid to treat the virus, he said on Twitter.

Biden, 79, posted on Twitter that so-called “rebound” cases like his happen “with a small minority of folks.”

“I’ve got no symptoms but I am going to isolate for the safety of everyone around me,” the tweet said. “I’m still at work, and will be back on the road soon.”

President Biden announced he tested positive again for COVID-19 on Twitter.

Biden first tested positive for COVID on July 21, and subsequently tested negative Tuesday night after being administered the drug Paxlovid.

White House Physician Dr. Kevin O’Connor said in a letter on Saturday that Biden was among “a small percentage” of Paxlovid recipients who saw their symptoms “rebound.”

Biden tested positive on an antigen test and will isolate in case he is contagious, O’Connor.

Will Smith Issued Video Apology To Chris Rock Months After Oscar Slap

Black Immigrant Daily News

Will Smith broke his silence for the first time since he dealt comedian Chris Rock a slap during the live broadcast of the Oscars on March 27.

Smith has been condemned widely for his actions which were in response to a joke Rock read created by the event organizers that made fun of Jada Pinkett-Smith’s balding head.

On Friday, the video saw the disgraced actor speaking on camera for the first time as he issued a personal apology to Rock for slapping him.

“I’ve reached out to Chris and the message that came back is that he’s not ready to talk, and when he is he will reach out,” Will Smith said as he read a question that was asked of him. “So I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you. My behaviour was unacceptable, and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.”

“I was fogged out by that point. It’s all fuzzy,” he said about the aftermath of the moment that stunned millions on TV.

The King Richards actor also said that he didn’t realize that many people were hurt by his actions as he apologized to Chris Rock’s family, including his brother Tony Rock who had previously said he was ready for the smoke to get back at Smith.

“I saw an interview that his mother did. That’s one of the things about that moment I didn’t realize, I wasn’t thinking, but how many people got hurt in that moment,” he said.

“So I want to apologize to Chris’s mother; I want to apologize to Chris’s family, specifically Tony Rock. We had a great relationship. Tony Rock was my man. This is probably irreparable,” Will said.

“I spent the last three months replaying and understanding the complexities and nuances of what happened,” Smith said, adding, “I’m not gonna try to unpack all of that right now but I can say to you, there was no part of me that thought that was the right way to behave in that moment,” he added.

Chris Rock has never spoken about the incident, and although he has made jokes about it, days ago, he had said he would speak about it when he is ready.

Smith had previously released a statement days after the event as he claimed that the joke which made fun of his wife’s alopecia was hurtful, and he also felt his wife’s hurt leading to him reacting “emotionally.”

Smith has been criticized for his wishy-washy apology to Rock.

“I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness,” he had said.

Corporate: changes for restructuring & liquidation business in Cayman Loop Cayman Islands

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Cayman Compass

The commencement order for the Companies (Amendment) Act, 2021 – legislation that is intended to attract and maintain restructuring and liquidation business in the Cayman Islands – was published today in the Cayman Islands Legislation Gazette. The Act will come into effect on August 31, 2022.

The legislation applies to a company, and any other entity or partnership, that is liable to be wound up under the provisions of Part V of the Companies Act (2022 Revision). Its two main objectives are to separate restructuring from the winding-up regime; and to improve access to both the restructuring and winding-up regimes.

In preparing to commence the restructuring aspects of the Act, Companies Register staff have been briefed on the intent of the law; and trained on the upgraded IT system that will support the new regime.

The amendment originates from proposals made by the Financial Services Legislative Committee (FSLC), which proposes enhancements to the Cayman Islands financial services regime, for Government’s consideration and potential action. Established by Government, FSLC members are representatives from the local financial services industry; and persons appointed by Attorney General, and the Ministry of Financial Services and Commerce.

“I thank the FSLC for their acumen and agility in helping to keep our financial services products attractive and cutting edge. Sincere thanks as well to the full Ministry team, the Companies Registry, and the Insolvency Rules Committee for their diligent efforts and collaborative approach,” said the Minister for Financial Services and Commerce, the Hon. Andr? Ebanks. “Together we continue to improve our financial services industry.”

Restructuring regime: Separation and access

Prior to the amendment, a company that wanted to restructure first needed to apply to the Court to wind up (in other words, liquidate) the company, which may have given the impression that the company was going out of business rather than restructuring. The winding-up application also could have triggered wind-up covenants in finance documents.

For companies that were considering using Cayman’s restructuring regime, this may have been a deterrent and undermined use of the regime. The Act addresses this issue by separating the restructuring regime from the winding-up regime.

The Act also improves access to the restructuring regime by no longer requiring a shareholder resolution, or an express power in the company’s articles of association, before company directors can apply for a restructuring.

Access to the winding-up regime

For all companies existing before the Act’s commencement, the Act equalises access to the winding-up regime by enabling all existing companies to add, in their articles of association, a provision that no longer requires a shareholder resolution or express power to allow company directors to apply for a winding-up.

For companies incorporated after the Act’s commencement, the Act improves access to the winding-up regime by no longer requiring a shareholder resolution, or an express power to be added in the company’s articles of association, before company directors can apply for a winding-up. However, a company still may choose to include these provisions in their articles of association, to govern the process that company directors are to follow for winding-up.

To support the Act, the Insolvency Rules Committee, chaired by the Chief Justice, the Hon. Anthony Smellie, QC, has prepared amendments to the Companies Winding Up Rules, 2018. These amendments, which do not need Parliamentary process, are intended to come into force simultaneously with the Act.

Parliament passed the Act on December 8, 2021. His Excellency the Governor gave his assent on December 15, 2021, and the Act was gazetted on December 16, 2021.
