Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has given a clear indication that she will be completing the sprint double at the 2022 World Athletics Championships currently underway at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, USA.
In a post on social media site Facebook on Friday morning, Fraser-Pryce wrote: “Did I mention I’m competing in the double”. She then listed the scheduled start times for the women’s heats, semi-finals and final, as well as those for the women’s 4×100 metres relay heats and final.
There has been speculation in some quarters that Fraser-Pryce might opt out of the 200 metres, which she has done in the past at a major championship, although she qualified for the event at the island’s National Championships.
Fraser-Pryce won the 100 metres at the last World Championships in Doha, Qatar in 2019 and will start the defence of her title on Saturday with the semi-finals and final set to take place on Sunday.
The women’s 200 metres heats will take place on Monday, with the semi-finals on Tuesday and the final on Thursday; while the heats of the 4×100 metres relay will take place next week Friday and the final the next day.
In the 100 metres, she has compatriots, Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah and Shericka Jackson as her main rivals. Fraser-Pryce has the fastest time this year of 10.67 seconds, with Jackson doing 10.77 seconds at the National Championships in June for the second fastest time this year and Thompson-Herah’s 10.79 in the United States is the third fastest time.
Jackson has the fastest time of 21.55 seconds in the 200 metres for the year with Thompson-Herah’s 22.05 seconds being ninth overall and Fraser-Pryce’s 22.14 being 11th.
Fraser-Pryce has four individual 100-metre gold medals at the World Championships with her only victory in the 200 metres being in Moscow in 2013.

GEORGETOWN, Guyana (AP) — Bangladesh swept the One-Day International (ODI) series in the Caribbean by winning the third match against a depleted West Indies bowling attack by four wickets on Saturday.
Bangladesh were favoured to win an 11th consecutive ODI against the West Indies, especially after bowling out the home side in the 49th over for 178, their best total of the series.
The West Indies were handicapped further when allrounder Keemo Paul pulled a hamstring and didn’t bowl, and part-time medium-pacer Rovman Powell suffered a side strain after delivering 11 balls.
The West Indies used seven bowlers, but after spinner Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai used up his 10 overs for a team-best four for 23, Bangladesh strolled to the win at 179 for six with nine balls to spare.
While Bangladesh respected Motie-Kanhai, who claimed captain Tamim Iqbal, caught and bowled Liton Das, bowled Afif Hossain and Mosaddek Hossain, the batters comfortably took runs off everyone else.
Tamim got 34 before miscuing a sweep to fine leg and Liton pushed the scoring with 50 off 65 balls.
Mosaddek charged Motie-Kanhai and hit straight to the long off fielder to leave Bangladesh on a worrying 116 for five. But Motie-Kanhai was finished, and Mahmudullah, 26, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, 16 not out, stayed calm and collected the runs.
Bangladesh made one inspired change from the second ODI, giving spinner Taijul Islam his first international match on the tour ahead of pacer Shoriful Islam. Taijul took a career-best five for 28 in 10 overs.
He bowled Brandon King with his third ball and got Shai Hope stumped with his 11th.
Shamarh Brooks was trapped by lone pacer Mustafizur Rahman in the next over and West Indies were 16 for three.
Mosaddek and Nasum Ahmed returned and Mehidy was introduced and West Indies crawled to 23 for three after 12 overs.
Captain Nicholas Pooran and Keacy Carty, in for Kyle Mayers, spread the ball around for 33 off the next six overs but Carty fell to Nasum and the run rate dropped back.
Pooran’s ninth 50 was his slowest, in 93 balls, and he was eighth man out to Taijul for 73 off 109 balls.
Taijul, Mustafizur and Mosaddek strangled the home side by bowling a combined 29 overs at less than three per over.
The ODI series was consolation for Bangladesh after losing the test and Twenty20 series.

The World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon is underway and already there have been some blazing times in the men’s 100m.
US champion Fred Kerley, the fastest man this year, underlined his status as the man to beat in Saturday’s final by winning his heat on Friday in 9.79 – the fastest time ever run in a 100m heat at a major championship.
In the very next heat, US teammate Trayvon Bromell won easily in 9.89. Before crossing the line, he glanced to his right and held up two fingers in a victory gesture.
Oblique Seville of Jamaica had the day’s third-fastest time, winning his heat in 9.93 ahead of Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs. The Italian, who has been hindered by injuries all outdoor season, equalled his season’s best 10.04.
All eyes on Saturday’s second day will be on the women’s 100m, where the first heat of the preliminary round is set to begin at 7:10 pm Jamaica time.
If the USA men look dominant in the 100m, the Jamaican women appear downright invincible. The trio of Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Elaine Thompson-Herah, and Shericka Jackson headline a Jamaican team that threatens to sweep the medals in Oregon.
Jamaicans have been rallying around the team.

Jaheel Hyde and Kemar Mowatt have qualified for the semifinals of the men’s 400m hurdles in Eugene, Oregon.
Hyde, who trains at Cameron Blazers, track club, came third in his heat in a time of 50.03s. The race was won by the world record holder in the event, Norway’s Karsten Warholm.
The 25-year-old Hyde will be looking to do better than the semi-final round he achieved at last summer’s Tokoyo Olympics.
Fellow Olympian, Mowatt, jogged to 49.44s, in the process finishing second to the Brazilian, Alison Dos Santos who clocked 49.41 in what could be described as a stroll around the track.
The third Jamaican in the event, Shawn Rowe, qualified as one of the fastest losers despite finishing 6th in his heat in a time of 49.51s.

Going into the championships, Distin had a personal best of 1.97m which gave her a fourth-placed world ranking.
