La mayor y más brillante superluna de 2022 iluminará el cielo este miércoles: ¿cómo verla?

Una superluna llena conocida como ‘Luna del Ciervo’ o ‘Luna de Trueno’ iluminará el cielo de nuestro planeta este miércoles, alcanzado su punto máximo de brillo a las 18:37 GMT.

Los aficionados a la astronomía deberán mirar hacia el sureste después de la puesta de sol para ver cómo se eleva en el cielo.

Las superlunas se definen como cualquier luna llena situada a una distancia de al menos el 90 % del perigeo, es decir, el punto en el que la luna está más cerca de la Tierra. La ‘Luna del Ciervo’ orbitará más cerca de nuestro planeta que cualquier otra luna llena de este año –estará a 357.418 kilómetros de la Tierra–, lo que la convertirá en la mayor y más brillante superluna del 2022.

¿Cómo ver la superluna llena?

Dado que las lunas llenas dominan el cielo nocturno y ocultan los objetos más tenues, es un buen momento para centrar los esfuerzos de observación usando los propios ojos, prismáticos o un telescopio para examinar las características lunares.

A simple vista, este miércoles se podrán ver las tierras altas y bajas de la superficie lunar, que pueden adoptar ciertas formas con significados culturales. Con unos prismáticos o un telescopio, se podrán apreciar detalles de los cráteres, montañas, crestas y otras formaciones.

Por otra parte, también se podrá observar a nuestro satélite natural en una transmisión en vivo a las 19:00 GMT a través del sitio del Proyecto de Telescopio Virtual.

¿A qué se debe su nombre?

Según distintas tradiciones de los nativos norteamericanos, julio suele ser el mes en el que la nueva cornamenta de los ciervos emerge de su frente con una capa de piel aterciopelada, de ahí uno de los nombres de esta superluna. Mientras, el nombre ‘Luna de Trueno’ se debe a las frecuentes tormentas eléctricas que ocurren durante este cálido y seco mes del verano boreal.

Three victims forced to seek treatment at the hospital after being wounded in separate incidents

Police are investigating three separate wounding incidents which left all the victims seeking medical care at the hospital.

Reports say that a 38-year-old Liberta man was injured by a fellow villager, who grabbed his money while they were at a local supermarket.

Reportedly, the man went to Spencer’s Supermarket with $52 in hand at around mid-morning on July 10. While there, the alleged perpetrator pulled the cash away and the victim took it back from him.

The alleged offender then went into a bag he was holding, pulled out a cutlass, and reportedly used it to inflict a wound to the victim’s head.

The man had to be treated at the hospital; and although his injuries were not life threatening, he was kept for observation.

The attacker was taken into police custody after the incident.

In another instance, a man of no fixed place of abode, but who frequents Percival’s Service Station, was punched in the face during an altercation on the premises.

Reportedly the victim was speaking to a driver who, at the time, was filling his vehicle’s tank with petrol.

The victim then went to the front passenger door, from which a man allegedly exited the vehicle and struck him in the face with his fist.

As a result, the victim reportedly fell to the ground, hit his head, and sustained a wound to the back of his head.

The Emergency Medical Service was summoned to the scene and transported the man to the hospital, where he was treated for his injury.

This offence reportedly occurred on the night of July 9.

Meanwhile, a 92-year-old Tyrells man is said to have been injured by his 24-year-old mentally challenged great-grandson in a dispute over a phone call.

Reports are that on July 8, at about 8:30 a.m., the elderly man was at home when his great-grandson asked to use the senior citizen’s cell phone to make a call.

The older man refused, allegedly angering the young man, who reportedly armed himself with a stone, which he used to inflict a wound to the elderly man’s head.

The senior citizen was taken to the Liberta Health Centre, where nurses assessed the wound; but he was later transported to the hospital by the EMS.

Covid: 91 new cases; 1 more death

A 79-year-old unvaccinated man who was infected with the novel coronavirus has died, taking the country’s death toll to 1,264.

The latest fatality hailed from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) which has detected the most positives at 34,077.

In the last 24 hours, 91 new cases were recorded, taking the total positives registered to date to 68,500.

There are 31 persons hospitalised, four of whom are in the ICU. There are 842 persons in home isolation and three persons in institutional quarantine.

Recoveries stand at 66,359.

Today Wednesday July 13, 2022 the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs reports a total of 66 new cases of COVID-19 from samples processed on Monday July 11, 2022 and Tuesday July 12, 2022.

This is from a total of 302 samples, of which 288 samples are from the Ezra Long Laboratory and 14 samples from the Laboratory Services and Consultations Limited.

These samples were collected from July 8, 2022 to July 11, 2022. This number of positive cases makes up 21.9% of all the samples processed. These new cases bring the total number of cases diagnosed in country to date to 27, 408.

Confirmation was also received of the recovery of 32 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19. This brings the number of active cases in country to date to 173. Currently, there are six positive case of COVID-19 admitted at the Respiratory Hospital.

To date, a total of 54, 436 individuals have been fully vaccinated. Another 5, 276 are partially vaccinated and 7, 665 have received their booster shot.

Vaccination will take place tomorrow Thursday July 14, 2022 at various Wellness Centres as per the published COVID-19 vaccination schedule. Vaccination will be available from 9am to 4pm.

The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs will continue providing daily updates to the public as new information becomes available.

Federales incautan 395 libras de cocaína encontradas en el interior de un contenedor que llegó a San Juan

Oficiales de Aduanas y Protección Fronteriza (CBP, por sus siglas en inglés) incautaron el martes 395 libras (179 kilos) de cocaína dentro de una paleta encontrada dentro de un contenedor que llegó a bordo del M/V Lyktos desde República Dominicana.

El valor estimado de la cocaína incautada es de 3.5 millones de dólares.

Los oficiales de CBP que inspeccionan la carga internacional que llega al Muelle 15 seleccionaron varios contenedores para una inspección más intrusiva. Un canino de CBP alertó sobre unas paletas de mercancías dentro de un contenedor.

Se escaneó la paleta y siete (7) cajas revelaron anomalías. Los oficiales abrieron las cajas y encontraron una bolsa de lona que tenía un artículo en forma de ladrillo que contenía una sustancia blanca en polvo. La sustancia dio positivo a las propiedades de la cocaína.

Investigaciones de Seguridad Nacional (HSI) tomó la custodia del contrabando para su investigación.

Las autoridades informaron el martes, que sometieron cargos contra Zaida Morales Santiago de 48 años, residente de Añasco, por dos cargos menos graves por Resistencia y Obstrucción a la Autoridad Pública, ocurrido el pasado domingo, 3 de julio del año en curso, en una manifestación realizada en el Condominio Sol y Playa de Rincón.

Los hechos por los que se le acusa a Morales Santiago, consisten en que supuestamente la mujer se opone en la construcción del muro en el citado lugar y empujó al sargento Axel Marrero Marrero, adscrito al Precinto de Utuado.

La Policía precisó que, al ser arrestada, supuestamente evadió el proceso con la ayuda de los manifestantes. Posteriormente, agentes del Negociado de Inteligencia y Arrestos, del área de Aguadilla, ubicaron la mujer dentro del grupo de manifestantes y procedió a ejecutar el arresto, del cual supuestamente resultó lesionada en la mano izquierda, la agente Silmirey Álvarez Ponce de esa División.

El sargento Fabián Del Valle Martínez, de ese distrito policíaco, presentó las denuncias ante la juez Melisa Soto, quien encontró causa por los delitos mencionados. La Vista Preliminar fue señalada para el 6 septiembre 2022, a las 9:00 de la mañana ante el Tribunal de Aguadilla.

Avería afecta balances en tiempo real de AutoExpreso

La compañía Professional Account Management (PAM) informó que AutoExpreso confrontó una avería durante la ejecución de tareas de mantenimiento, la cual afecta la función de proveer balances en tiempo real en su página web y en la aplicación AutoExpreso Móvil, se informó el miércoles.

“Esta avería no afectó en forma alguna la información en las cuentas de los conductores ni el registro de transacciones por los carriles del sistema de peajes de Puerto Rico. Esta avería tampoco está relacionada con el ciberataque registrado hace unos meses. Al detectarse la situación, se destacó a un equipo técnico que se encuentra trabajando para restaurar la función que nos permite proveer los balances de cuentas en tiempo real”, expresó el CEO de Professional Account Management, Tim Wendler en declaraciones escritas.

Wendler indicó que tienen la expectativa de que luego de completar las nuevas actualizaciones y llevar a cabo las pruebas de rigor, el sistema este restablecido a finales de esta semana.

El CEO de PAM explicó que la función de balance en tiempo real ayuda a los conductores a mantener control del balance de sus cuentas de AutoExpreso. Este proceso se activa cada vez que un conductor se acerca a una caseta de recarga y el sistema lee su sello. Igualmente, la información se actualiza cuando los conductores acceden a autoexpreso.com o a la aplicación AutoExpreso Móvil, ya que el sistema automáticamente hace una verificación de las transacciones y del balance de la cuenta para ofrecerle información actualizada al conductor.

El proceso de balances en tiempo real conlleva un trabajo continuo del sistema de AutoExpreso, de mantenerse haciendo actualizaciones de las transacciones cada vez que se registra el uso de un carril de peaje.
