Des dizaines de personnes ont été prises en charge en arrêt cardiaque à Séoul samedi après que des milliers de personnes se sont pressées dans les rues étroites d’un quartier de la capitale sud-coréenne lors des célébrations de Halloween, ont indiqué les pompiers sud-coréens.
En Corée du Sud, les responsables des secours parlent d’arrêt cardiaque tant qu’un médecin n’a pas officiellement prononcé la mort d’une personne.
Un porte-parole des pompiers a confirmé l’incident, indiquant que 140 ambulances avaient été déployées sur les lieux pour prendre en charge les victimes.
Une cinquantaine de personnes ont connu un arrêt cardiaque dans le quartier d’Itaewon, où des milliers de personnes fêtaient Halloween, selon l’agence Yonhap.
Les victimes semblent avoir été prises dans des mouvements de foule dans ce quartier où les célébrations de Halloween rassemblent un grand nombre de personnes dans la capitale sud-coréenne.
Le président sud-coréen Yoon Suk-yeol a demandé de préparer les hôpitaux à accueillir les blessés, a indiqué la présidence.
Des photographies publiées par Yonhap montraient plus d’une dizaine de personnes gisant dans une rue, des sauveteurs effectuant des massages cardiaques à certaines d’entre elles, alors que la police tenait la foule à distance par des cordons de sécurité.
Selon des images vidéo, une vingtaine de corps étaient cependant revêtus de draps ou de couvertures, les sauveteurs ne tentant pas de les ranimer. D’autres victimes étaient évacuées sur des civières vers des ambulances.
Les célébration de Halloween cette année sont les premières depuis la pandémie de Covid-19, dans laquelle les Sud-coréens avaient été obligés de porter le masque en extérieur.

Le corps sans vie d’un enfant de 12 ans a été retrouvé samedi au bord du fleuve Huveaune, à Marseille, porteur de “plaies à l’arme blanche”, a annoncé le parquet à l’AFP.
L’enfant, autiste selon son oncle et sa tante, qui se sont exprimés auprès de l’AFP sur place, aurait échappé à la surveillance de sa mère vendredi, lors d’une promenade. Sa disparition avait aussitôt été signalée à la police par la famille, qui a elle-même découvert le corps samedi.
L’enfant présente “des plaies à l’arme blanche”, a expliqué la procureure de la République de Marseille, Dominique Laurens, à l’AFP, en parlant également “de nombreuses traces de sang sur le trajet de la découverte du corps”.
Le cadavre a été découvert par le père et l’oncle de l’enfant, a souligné Mme Laurens, en précisant que l’enquête a été confiée à la police judiciaire.
Selon l’oncle et la tante de l’enfant auxquels l’AFP a pu parler sur place, dans le quartier de la Capelette, celui-ci aurait échappé à la surveillance de sa mère vendredi vers 16h00, après une promenade. La famille aurait signalé cette disparition au commissariat dès 17h00, puis une nouvelle fois vers 22h00, leurs recherches étant toujours infructueuses.
La famille a expliqué avoir d’abord retrouvé la veste de l’enfant samedi, vers 08h30 du matin, au bord de l’Huveaune, avant de finalement retrouver le corps, vers 13h00, toujours au bord du fleuve, en bas d’une pente raide donnant sur l’eau, dans des herbes hautes et des broussailles.

With murders inching closer to the 500 mark, a joint parliamentary team is considering an Opposition proposal to haul in top government officials and law enforcement personnel to get answers on the seemingly out-of-control crime rate and what is being done to stem it.
Port of Spain South MP Keith Scotland, the chairman of the Joint Select Committee on National Security, in a letter to Oropouche East MP Dr Roodal Moonilal on October 26, said he is prepared to discuss the proposal at the next meeting of the committee “as a matter of urgency.”

Moonilal and Opposition senator Jayanti Lutchmedial had written to Scotland on October 25 after the Divali long weekend when 16 people were murdered. They requested the committee interrogate the Prime Minister, who is chairman of the National Security Council, National Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds, the leadership of the police service, the heads of the intelligence gathering units including the Strategic Services Agency as a matter of urgency in order to ascertain what, if anything, is being done to curb the spate of senseless killings.
In response, Scotland said the committee is already looking at the factors that contribute to the prevalence of illegal guns and gun violence in Trinidad and Tobago and the issues raised by the Opposition may be compatible with the current enquiry. He said the committee “may be willing to consider using the earliest opportunity to interrogate” the issues relating to rising number of murders “at the earliest opportunity.”
On the issue of who can be summoned to give account, Scotland said that was a matter for the consideration of the committee. He directed that the Opposition’s request be sent to other members of the committee ahead of the next meeting which has not yet been scheduled.
The other members of the committee are Independent Senator Paul Richards, government MPs Kennedy Richards, Ayanna Webster-Roy and government senators Nigel De Freitas and Randall Mitchell.

RAJU SHARMA, charge d’affaires at the Indian High Commission in Port of Spain, on Friday said the people of Trinidad and Tobago were an example to the whole world in the way they celebrated each other’s festivals. He gave welcoming remarks at the Divali 2022 celebration held at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Cultural Co-operation at Mt Hope held jointly by the mission and the institute.
“Divali time reminds us to get together, greet each other, and celebrate life as we seem to be getting away from the clutches of the corona virus pandemic.” He said the people of TT follow in spirit traditions and practices from India.
“People of all religions and faiths celebrate all festivals together in TT. It is an example for other people from societies around the world to follow.”
Sharma lauded the bravery, humility and determination of Lord Ram in the Ramayana story in overcoming suffering and challenges. He recalled with reverence Lord Ram, Sita, Latchman and Hanumanji for how they had lived their lives
“It is now time for all of us to earn knowledge, be prosperous, remain healthy and exercise justice.”Let us induce in ourselves feelings of compassion, love, pardon and care for each other.”
Independent Senator Deoroop Teemal recited a short prayer and explained the significance each word. It was an invocation for people to live lives characterised by dynamism, self-reflection and inner searching, all led by the divine mother. “The divine mother is asked to lead the process of transformation, meaningful change in our lives.”
He said if one does not have the divine in one’s life, one was living in an unreal existence. “The only truth in the universe is the divine.”
Chinmaya Mission head Swami Prakashananda urged people to have a higher understanding of their jobs. He told a tale of one labourer walking along digging successive holes, followed by another immediately filling in each hole. When the duo were questioned about this, they said a third man had also been hired to plant a tree in the hole dug between the two men’s actions but he had been off work ill. Prakashananda said that while the two men were in fact each doing their respective jobs, they had not been doing their duty purposefully, with a true vision.

Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretary-General Dr. Carla Barnett has said that young people are the key to the total transformation of the Region’s agri-food system.
Barnett spoke at the launch of the ‘I Am Agriculture: Youth in Agriculture’ Social Media Campaign on Friday.
She noted that the estimated average age of farmers in the Region is between 50 and 60 years.
And Barnett explained that more young farmers should be coming in to replace old farmers to sustain the Region’s agricultural sector.

“This is one of the things that we must change if the Region is to be food secure and also strengthen its economic and trade prospects,” the CARICOM Secretary-General observed.
According to Barnett, young people constitute a section of society with the highest unemployment and food insecurity levels.
However, she stated that the youth possess untapped potential, like the agriculture sector.
As a result, the Secretary-General said facilitating youth participation in the agriculture sector will provide much-needed employment opportunities and will also help to drive innovation and growth.
She explained that in this way, the resulting benefit to individual countries and the Community would also grow.
“To effect a true change to youth engagement in agriculture, a rethinking, a paradigm shift is taking place in how we view and engage with youth,” Barnett asserted.
She said she was aware of the challenges faced by young people trying to engage in agriculture.
Nevertheless, Barnett emphasised that as Secretary-General, one of her priorities is to change the landscape of regional agriculture and agri-food systems, focusing more on technology, investment, and youth engagement.

The sun is out and the weather looks great for the weekend, as the adverse weather alert has been discontinued by the Met Office.
It downgraded the yellow level warning to green as conditions became settled and stable overnight Friday.
On Thursday, the country was on an orange-level alert. During the past two days, torrential rainfall caused flooding and landslides in north, east, central and south Trinidad, as well as Tobago.
However, relief came early Saturday, as the Met Office reported that the impact from the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone has significantly decreased. It also expected a decreased in waterlogged areas, as riverine advisories were also downgraded.
“The isolated thunderstorm can still occur in a few areas, as is common during the rainy season. Gusty winds and street flooding can be expected but short-lived near these thunderstorms,” the Met Office cautioned.

The Cricket West Indies (CWI) Selection Panel today named the Men’s Test squad for the upcoming series in Australia. West Indies will be under the leadership of Kraigg Brathwaite and will face the hosts in two Test matches at the Perth Stadium (30 November to 4 December) and the Adelaide Oval (8 to 12 December).
The Selection Panel named one newcomer in Tagenarine Chanderpaul, the left-handed opening batter and recalled two experienced players in allrounder Roston Chase and middle-order batter Shamarh Brooks.
Lead Selector The Most Hon. Dr Desmond Haynes said: “We have a core group of players who have been part of the Test squad and have performed well. We have played two series this year – against England and Bangladesh – and won both. We have been playing good Test cricket and expect to do well against the Australians on their home turf.” “We have one newcomer to the team in Tagenarine Chanderpaul. He equipped himself very well in the West Indies Championship four-day matches and also did a very good job at the top of the order against Bangladesh A in Saint Lucia this summer. This will be followed by a four-day pink ball match against the Australia Prime Minister’s XI at the Manuka Oval in Canberra on Wednesday 23 November to Saturday 26 November. The day/night match will be played under lights and will recognise the anniversary of the inaugural fixture in 1951, also against the West Indies.
The Test series will be contested for the prestigious Frank Worrell Trophy – named in honour of the legendary West Indies captain. It will also form part of the ICC World Test Championship.
