BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, November 21, 2022 (MMS-SKN) — The St. Kitts Nevis Anguilla National Bank Limited which was the Title Sponsor to the St. Kitts Diabetes Association’s Week of Activities held November 14-19, is hailing the association for its continued support to people living with diabetes.

“Diabetes, as we know, plagues us in this community and it is one of the several non-communicable diseases that leave us so weak,” said National Bank’s Chief Information Service Officer, Mr Quincy Prentice. “We say that it is really important that the work that the Diabetes Association is doing in drawing awareness to the scourge of diabetes.”

Mr Prentice, who was representing National Bank’s CEO Mr Donald Thompson, made the remarks on Saturday November 19 at the Cenotaph in Fortlands, Basseterre, at the end of the St. Kitts Diabetes Association 8th Annual Walk, which was held under the theme ‘Access to Diabetes Care 2022’.

The Bank official, who had also taken part in the walk that took participants from the Cenotaph via Bay Road to the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank roundabout and back to the Cenotaph, pointed out that many have loved ones including relatives and friends who are affected by the disease and it was important that they have that support system offered by the Diabetes Association to continue to support persons who are affected by diabetes.

“The St. Kitts Nevis Anguilla National Bank continues to be, and has always been, a responsible corporate citizen,” stated Mr Prentice. However, in response to a suggestion by a member of the St. Kitts Diabetes Association that the Bank should continue with its support forever, the bank official said: “So I want to continue to pledge our continued support, I cannot say ad infinitum, but as close to that as we can get as the Diabetes Association continues its work in support of those who are affected by Diabetes.”

Taking part in the walk as a show of solidarity was a large group of the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank Limited’s members of the Board, Management and Staff that also included Chairperson of the Board of Directors, Mrs Carol Boddie; Chief Card Services Officer, Mrs Bernice Kelly; Marketing Manager, Mrs Shirna Pemberton; and Pastor Ronald Taylor who offered prayers at the end of the successful walk.

“National Bank is proud of its title sponsorship to the St. Kitts Diabetes Association Week of Activities (November 14-19) under the theme ‘Access to Diabetes Care’,” noted National Bank’s Marketing Manager Mrs Shirna Pemberton. “The Association continues its active agenda of education against the perils of diabetes in our country and joins annually with the International Diabetes Federation in promoting healthy lifestyles.”

The walk, which was the last on the calendar of the St. Kitts Diabetes Association Week of Activities, was sponsored by the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank Limited who provided T-shirts that were sold to raise funds to assist the St. Kitts Diabetes Association as it carries out its work in the coming year.

“St. Kitts Nevis Anguilla National Bank Limited, which is the largest not only in St. Kitts and Nevis but in the OECS, came on board last year offering their support tangibly – you will see their logo on our shirts,” said Public Relations Officer of the St. Kitts Diabetes Association, Dr Reginald O’Loughlin. “They came on board to assist us with the organisation of this particular walk, and we are appreciative of their efforts and so it is in order to say thanks to them.”

Other members of the St. Kitts Diabetes Association present during the walk were Vice President Nurse Davida Irish, Secretary Mrs Adora Warner, Treasurer Mrs Merle Liburd-Browne, and ex officio member Mr Ellamorrow Levy.

World Cup stunner: Saudi Arabia beat Messi’s Argentina 2-1 Loop Jamaica

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Jamaica News Loop News

LUSAIL, Qatar (AP) — Saudi Arabia scored one of the biggest World Cup upsets ever by beating Lionel Messi’s Argentina 2-1 on Tuesday.

Messi’s quest to win the one major title to elude him got off to a shocking start and brought back memories of Cameroon’s 1-0 win over an Argentina team led by Diego Maradona in the opening game of the 1990 World Cup.

Goals by Saleh Alshehri and Salem Aldawsari in a five-minute span in the second half gave the Saudis the win. Argentina took an early lead with a 10th-minute penalty by Messi.

The Argentina loss rivals other World Cup upsets like Senegal’s 1-0 win over titleholder France 1-0 in the 2002 tournament opener and the United States beating England by the same score in 1950.

Argentina’s 36-match unbeaten run ended at the Lusail Stadium in Messi’s fifth –and likely last– World Cup.

The Paris Saint-Germain star shook hands with a Saudi coaching staff member after the final whistle and stood with his hands on his hips near the center circle, an all-too familiar scene for one of the best players ever who is yet to win the biggest prize in football.

The unlikely victory was sealed by a somersault by Aldawsari, who brought down a high ball just inside the penalty area, turned one defender, jinked past another and drove a powerful shot past goalkeeper Emi Martinez, who got a hand on the ball but couldn’t keep out of the net in the 53rd.

A stunned Messi watched as scores of green-clad fans from Saudi Arabia, Qatar’s neighbor, celebrated in in disbelief in the stands. Saudi Arabia’s substitutes stormed the field.

Messi put Argentina ahead from the penalty spot after the video assistant referee told the referee to take a look at a jersey grab by Saud Abdulhamid on Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes.

With Saudi Arabia’s first shot in goal, Saleh Alshehri found the bottom corner with an angled finish through the legs of defender Cristian Romero.

Patrick Williams scored a season-high 17, and the Bulls made it look rather easy against the team with the NBA’s best record. They led by 13 at halftime, got it up to 21 in the third quarter and withstood a push to come away with the victory after dropping four straight and five of six.

Down to eight players due to injuries and rest on the second night of a back-to-back, the Heat led by 15 in the first half before Edwards sparked a third-quarter run.

Jaden McDaniels added 18 points for the Timberwolves, who won their fourth straight.

Kyle Lowry led the Heat with 21 points and Max Strus had 19. Bam Adebayo, playing in back-to-back games while dealing with a knee injury, had 17 points and 14 rebounds for Miami, which have lost four in a row.

Jimmy Butler missed his third straight game with a knee injury for the Heat, who were also without Tyler Herro, Duncan Robinson and Gabe Vincent.

KNICKS 129, THUNDER 119

Randle also pulled down 11 rebounds. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder with 30 points and Lu Dort added 24.

Water arch welcome in Jamaica as direct flights from Italy return Loop Jamaica

Jamaica welcomes back Neo Air flights from Italy Direct flights from Italy return to Jamaica

The return of direct flights from Italy is being hailed by local stakeholders as a major boost for air connectivity out of Europe and for the upcoming winter tourist season.

“The addition of these direct flights speaks to the confidence our airline partners have of the destination,” Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett said.

Government officials, attraction and hotel owners, transport operators and other business interests, said that the latest development, which saw the inaugural arrival of Neos Airline out of Milan, Italy into Montego Bay on November 20, represents an important sign of recovery since 2019 and the subsequent onslaught of the pandemic.

“Jamaica continues to show its resilience from the fallout of the pandemic as our tourism recovery surpasses our targets. Air connectivity out of Europe, one of our major source markets, is something we hold dear to our hearts and something we must continue to nurture, considering the competitive nature of the global tourism market,” the minister said.

Bartlett argued that the return of direct flights would dramatically increase arrivals from Italy, pointing to the 13,000 visitors Jamaica received in 2019. He noted that for the upcoming winter season, the airline will connect Italy to Jamaica with two weekly flights.

“In addition, from December 23, Neos Air will operate a second flight from Verona, Italy. Both flights will be utilising a Boeing 787-900 Dreamliner with a capacity of 359 seats,” the minister said.

Meanwhile, MBJ Airports Limited, operator of the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, is also celebrating the return of Neos Airline, calling it a prelude of things to come for the expected bumper winter season, which officially starts on December 15.

“We are excited by the return of Neos’ weekly service to Sangster International Airport for the first time since the start of the pandemic,” MBJ’s Chief Executive Officer Shane Munroe told stakeholders who were on hand for the airline’s arrival on November 20.

“We are happy that our guests from Italy can once again enjoy travel to Jamaica using the services of Neos Airline,” he added.

For his part, president and chief executive officer of the Airports Authority of Jamaica, Audley Deidrick, was equally excited.

“The Airports Authority of Jamaica welcomes the return of the service by Neos Airline from Milan to the Sangster International Airport and by extension to Jamaica. This service will provide greater connectivity for travellers between Milan and Jamaica,” he said.

Director of Tourism, Donovan White, said the move is another positive nod for Jamaica’s tourism “as we continue to keep the destination top of mind”.

“We anticipate an increase in visitors and look forward to showcasing our warm Jamaican hospitality,” he added.

The inaugural flight carried 144 passengers and 11 crew members, and was greeted by a celebratory water arch salute from MBJ’s Emergency Response Service team, live Jamaican Mento music, and senior representatives of the Jamaica Tourist Board and MBJ Airports Limited.
