There will be particular emphasis on player opportunities and enhancing player scouting across the region at events such as the Caribbean Club Championship and Caribbean Cup.

Jamaica international and Pittsburgh Riverhounds forward Dane Kelly is the USL Championship’s all-time leading goal scorer with 85 regular season goals

Soon, the USL will create and announce details of a combine for select players from across the CFU member nations to compete in front of USL technical staff.

Career development programmes for coaches and administrators will also receive special attention from the USL in this agreement through certified courses, which should open the door to opportunities in the USL.

USL Sporting Director, Mark Cartwright and the various clubs’ technical staff will also share best practices on an ongoing basis with their counterparts in the Caribbean.

Referees will be in an environment to receive opportunities in the USL ecosystem from the youth level to the professional tier.

The USL will welcome CFU Executives to league meetings where they will have the opportunity to

participate in educational sessions and meet and interact with the owners and executives from USL’s

league office and clubs.

Trinidad & Tobago talisman Kevin Molino came through the ranks of the USL and is now a player with MLS outfit Columbus Crew

The CFU will provide USL executives the same opportunity at meetings or events it may conduct throughout the year.

Caribbean players have featured prominently in the USL’s history.

In the Championship’s 11 seasons, three league MVPs have hailed from countries that are members of the CFU: Cuban midfielder Yordany Alvarez in 2011, Kevin Molino of Trinidad and Tobago in 2012 and 2014 and Jamaica’s prolific goal scorer Dane Kelly in 2017.

Kelly and fellow Jamaican Kenardo Forbes are the current all-time leaders in Championship history in regular-season goals and assists, respectively.

This past year, both Forbes and fellow Jamaican Neco Brett were voted to the Championship’s All League Team, while 39 players from the Championship and League One were selected to compete by 14 countries within the CFU to play at the senior international level.

Statistics like these have brought immense joy to USL President Jake Edwards, who acknowledged the impressive contribution that Caribbean players have made to the league.

Jamaican forward Neco Brett was named in the USL’s last All -League team as New Mexcico United’s representative

“Caribbean football has made tremendous contributions to the USL over the years and this partnership creates an exciting opportunity to augment that legacy,” said USL President Jake Edwards.

“We are thrilled to work with the Caribbean Football Union and its members to grow the sport throughout the region and impact our communities together.”

President of the CFU, Randolph Harris echoed Edwards’ excitement and stated he was extremely pleased with the union as it will change many lives for the better in the Caribbean.

“We in the Caribbean Football Union are both pleased and excited by this partnership. Part of our role in the CFU is to lobby for our member associations in all spheres and to court opportunity for

administrators, coaches, players, and our referees.

This agreement does just that, opening pathways for the CFU, and it brings to the USL a tangible benefit, because our people in the Caribbean have the ability to add value wherever they are placed. This collaboration marries talent with opportunity.

Everyone wins,” said CFU President Randolph Harris.

The partnership will see the USL look to offer opportunities for training, exposure, and career

development both at the USL’s league office and with the league’s clubs for students enrolled at CFU

Bird Flu Detected at Poultry Farm in Belize

Black Immigrant Daily News

BELMOPAN, Belize, CMC – The Belize Agricultural Health Authority has placed a poultry farm in Blue Creek Village under quarantine after detecting the Avian influenza or Bird flu in its animals.

The Bird flu is an infectious type of influenza that spreads among birds.

In rare cases, it can affect humans.

The authority said that the farm currently houses over 25, 000 chickens and containment measures are being put in place to restrict poultry products exiting the Blue Creek community.

It said that this is being done to ensure that the poultry industry is being protected against further introductions of the disease.

Other measures being carried out include the implementation of movement control of live birds, eggs, and litter.

“At this point in time, we have identified only one infected farm with Avian Influenza in Blue Creek. The subtype is H5. When we diagnose either H5 or H7 we implement immediate control measures to control and eradicate the disease, given influenza is a viral disease, a very infectious, contagious that could have high mortality,” said Miguel Depaz, director of the animal health department at the authority.

“There is some degree of mortality, yes, but we must understand that the pathogenic of the virus can be either low or high. But, whether it is low or high it requires immediate action by BAHA to control the disease because whether low or high it can create a negative impact on the industry.

“We do not want to allow live poultry to move out of the area. We are uncertain what the situation is at the moment, so live poultry has the highest risk of spreading the virus and other products, processed products, less risk, but we still want to put some restrictions,” he added.

LETTER: Leadership truly matters

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Antigua News Room

Dear editorial team,

Please permit me to express my note to your readership.

There’s no denying that these are difficult times. The ABLP came to office in 2014 and at that time inherited a rotten, broken economy. It was difficult but very quickly Prime Minister Browne and his team set about to fix the problems and in short order stabilized the economy and restored sustainable growth.

An economy which had contracted by 25 percent with 10,000 individuals placed on the breadline, was turned around and average annual growth of five percent was achieved until 2020 when COVID pandemic struck.

Despite the economic contraction in 2020, under astute financial and economic management, Antigua and Barbuda registered positive economic growth in 2021 of 7.4 percent and is expected to grow by 8 percent in 2022.

Leadership truly matters.

The above reported performance of the Gaston Browne led administration typifies the quality of governance required in the face of today’s global environment of inflation brought on by the war in Ukraine; spiralling costs in food and fuel and resultant job losses and economic problems facing countries around the world.

What Antigua and Barbuda does not need at this time is that failed group of UPP politicians, who presided over the collapsed economy.

In addition, they engaged in widespread rip off of public resources and took the country into the bosom of the IMF.

Gaston Browne and the ABLP saved the day and despite the challenges of today’s global environment, not a single public sector job has been lost.

public services continue and in many instances, including education, health care, housing and infrastructure have expanded.

Strong, inspiring and decisive leadership sure does make a difference.

Vote Gaston Browne and ABLP and keep Antigua and Barbuda SAFE and SECURED.

“Las lluvias de los pasados días fueron las causantes del desprendimiento de rocas en la mencionada vía de rodaje. Ante la inestabilidad del terreno y luego de una inspección realizada por un ingeniero de suelos de la Autoridad de Carreteras y Transportación junto al personal municipal, es necesario cerrar la vía por seguridad. Son cientas las familias que utilizan esta carretera para desplazarse diariamente así que queremos evitar una situación lamentable”.
