A 46-year-old man and his nephew were gunned down at their home in Freeport on Monday night.

Fazal “Beastman” Hosein, 46, and Kevin Samuel, 31, died shortly after 7 pm while being treated at the Chaguanas district health facility.

Hosein was also known as Bobby, the police said.

The shooting happened at the family’s home at Taitt Madoo Road.

Police said the killer ambushed them and started shooting fire, hitting the two men, then ran away.

There were no reports of anyone else being injured.

Freeport and Homicide Bureau of Investigations (Region III) visited and gathered evidence.

When Newsday visited relatives at the house, they declined to speak.

Samuel was on bail for a series of offences.

In July 2020, police charged him with having a Glock 17 pistol with 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition and marijuana after searching him in the yard of his home.

The police searched the house and allegedly found a pistol with three rounds of 7.62 ammunition. Two other occupants were also arrested and charged.

A 37-YEAR-OLD man was sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment with hard labour by a Princes Town magistrate on Monday after he pleaded guilty to larceny, malicious damage and maliciously wounding a woman.

A police press release said on Tuesday that Amaranth Ramnarine Singh of New Grant was also charged with choking when he appeared before magistrate Indira Misir-Gosine.

He was sentenced to one month’s hard labour for larceny, one month’s hard labour for malicious damage and six months’ hard labour for malicious wounding.

He pleaded not guilty to choking and was granted bail with surety of $350,000 or $5,000 cash alternative.

The victim reported to police that on June 18, she and a man known to her had a heated argument in her car. The woman claimed the man stabbed the dashboard with a penknife, but caused no damage.

She said he then used the car’s rear-view mirror to hit her twice on the right side of her forehead. She claimed the man also used the seatbelt to strangle her until she lost consciousness.

The woman told police when she revived, she saw the man take a wheel spanner from the car and leave. On reaching home, she said, the man went inside and returned with a cutlass, and chopped her several times on the head.

A report was made to the Tableland Police Station and subsequently referred to the Southern Division’s Gender-Based Violence Unit (GBVU).

The suspect was arrested by the GBVU on Sunday after investigations supervised by Supt Claire Guy-Alleyne, ASP Bridglal and Insp Hospidales, all of the GBVU. Singh was charged by WPC Sylvan, also of the GBVU.

The accident scene

A 38-year-old male minibus driver along with a female passenger who was in the vehicle are now dead following an accident which occurred this afternoon at Good Hope, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

Dead is Andrew Albert of Lamaha Park, Georgetown. Albert is a former police officer. The man’s father told INews that his son was an employee of ExxonMobil Guyana and would operate the minibus in his spare time.

Reports are that the Route 44 minibus was travelling up the ECD and in the process, overtook a motor pickup.

That same motor pickup, according to eyewitnesses, subsequently sped up behind the minibus and crashed into the vehicle from behind.

This reportedly caused the minibus to crash into a truck and then into a horse-cart. The minibus driver then began to lose control of the vehicle, causing it to topple several times before coming to a stop.

First responders reportedly had to use a saw to get the victims out of the minibus.

In addition to the fatalities, at least three persons are said to be seriously injured.
