Football : l’arbitre Nad?ge Janvier r?ve d’?tre parmi les meilleurs sifflets

Black Immigrant Daily News

? 17 ans, Nad?ge Janvier a commenc?

‘False and inflammatory’: PNP clears the air on Region 6 drama Loop Jamaica

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Jamaica News Loop News

The People’s National Party (PNP) said it is unfortunate that a nominee who was unsuccessful in his bid to gain a position as one of the Region 6 National Executive Council (NEC) representatives would take to the media to disparage the process.

Pandemonium broke out at the conclusion of the Region 6 Conference, held in part to elect executives as well as representatives for the party’s second-highest decision-making body the National Executive Council. Some party supporters voiced their concerns to media representatives at the conference, claiming that the counting of ballots was not transparent.

However, the PNP in a release said that the party successfully hosted annual regional conferences in all six regions on Sunday, August 28, 2022.All six conferences were incident free, the party said, and all six regional chairmen returned unopposed.

The statement said at the end of the Region 6 conference, one unsuccessful aspirant in the regional election for National Executive Council (NEC) positions, and another individual, who is not a member of the party, then took to the media, to express their dissatisfaction with the process and outcome of the regional elections for NEC membership.

The statements said: “The secretariat, represented by Deputy General Secretary (DGS) Wensworth Skeffery, presided over the elections at the Region 6 conference.

“As is customary, the DGS enlisted the assistance of other staff of the Secretariat, along with senior members of the Patriots, to count the ballots, outside in the open, and in the view of all, as the location did not have closed rooms available for this purpose.”

There was no election for Regional Chairman as Colin Hitchman was returned unopposed for the position.

In outlining the situation, the PNP said 14 nominations for NEC membership were submitted by the conference, of which the 10 Comrades who received the highest votes were chosen, as required by the party’s constitution.

“It is indeed unfortunate that the personal disaffection of an unsuccessful NEC nominee and another individual who is not even a member of the PNP, through their false and inflammatory statements to a media house, have marred an otherwise successful and incident-free conference.

“The secretariat will take steps to remind our members of the available fora within the party to raise concerns or express disapproval of internal matters,” the party said.

Jamaica’s Rasheed Broadbell continued his strong run of form to win the 110m hurdles at the Spitzen Leichtathletik meeting, a World Athletics Continental Tour Silver event, at the Allmend Stadium in Lucerne, Switzerland on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old followed his Commonwealth Games win in Birmingham with victories in Szekesfehervar and Lausanne, where he dipped under 13 seconds for the first time with 12.99m.

Back racing in Switzerland in challenging conditions, Broadbell clocked 13.36 into a -2.2 headwind to triumph ahead of USA’s Eric Edwards and Jamal Britt in respective times of 13.53 and 13.54.

Britt narrowly held off Jamaica’s Olympic champion Hansle Parchment, who ran the same time for fourth.

Another hurdles star in action was USA’s 2019 world champion and former world record-holder Dalilah Muhammad and she won the 400m hurdles in 54.57 ahead of Jamaica’s Janieve Russell (55.25).

There was also a win for USA’s Tia Jones, who pipped Puerto Rico’s Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn in the 100m hurdles – 12.78 to 12.86 (-2.4m/s).

Ackeem Blake of Jamaica finished third in the men’s 100m in 10.22 seconds.

US Olympic 4x400m champion Bryce Deadmon held off South Africa’s world record-holder Wayde van Niekerk for the victory – 45.11 to 45.19.

Jamaica’s 2019 world gold medallist Tajay Gayle finished second in the men’s long jump.

Swiss decathlete Simon Ehammer, who claimed bronze in Oregon, won by leaping 8.00m in a close competition to finish ahead Gayle (7.98m) and Olympic champion Miltiadis Tentoglou of Greece (7.94m).

Tuchel grumbles as big-spending Chelsea lose again in EPL Loop Jamaica

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Jamaica News Loop News

Chelsea are getting precious little return for being the biggest-spending team in Europe this summer.

And it’s not escaping the attention of Thomas Tuchel, either.

“It does not take a lot to beat us,” the Chelsea manager said after a 2-1 loss at Southampton in the English Premier League (EPL) on Tuesday. “This is what I do not like.”

If Wesley Fofana joins, as widely expected, from Leicester for what could be a record fee for a defender of more than 80 million pounds ($93 million), Chelsea’s spending will not be far off $300 million in this transfer window. The majority of that will have come on defenders, with Marc Cucurella and Kalidou Koulibaly having already arrived for big fees.

Yet Chelsea have conceded in all but one of their games. So compact in Tuchel’s first year in charge — which included a Champions League title in 2021 — the team now appears disjointed at the back and is missing the industry and energy of the injured N’Golo Kante in midfield.

Southampton took advantage on Tuesday, recovering from conceding a 23rd-minute opener to Raheem Sterling — another high-profile summer signing — with goals from Romeo Lavia and Adam Armstrong before the break.

Cucurella and Thiago Silva cleared Southampton shots off the line in the second half before late pressure by Chelsea failed to yield an equalizer at St Mary’s stadium, where Southampton lost to Manchester United on Saturday.

With so many new players, it might take time for this new-look Chelsea to click.

“We struggle with our focus and consistency in matches.” Tuchel said. “When things go against us, we struggle to find answers and our way back.”

“Just toughen up as a team,” he added, “and show a different mentality.”

MISSED CHANCE

Brighton missed a chance to move into first place — at least overnight — by losing 2-1 at Fulham, becoming the latest team to struggle to handle Aleksandar Mitrovic.

It’s now five goals for the season for the World Cup-bound Serbia striker — one behind the Premier League top scorer, Manchester City’s Erling Haaland — after setting Fulham on their way to a victory that ended Brighton’s unbeaten start to the campaign.

An unfortunate own-goal by Lewis Dunk put Fulham 2-0 ahead in the 55th before Brighton reduced the deficit five minutes later through Argentina midfielder Alexis Mac Allister’s penalty.

Fulham already have eight points from five games in an encouraging start to life back in the top division. Brighton have two more points.

ZAHA ON SHOW

Wilfried Zaha could yet leave Crystal Palace before the transfer window shuts on Thursday, with Chelsea and Arsenal the clubs reportedly interested in the forward.

He’ll be sorely missed by Palace if he does leave.

Zaha emphasized his importance to the team by scoring for the fourth time this season to put give Palace the lead against Brentford, which equalized in the 88th to salvage a 1-1 draw.

It was another stunning goal by Zaha, who cut inside from the left and found the far corner with a curling shot from just outside the penalty area.

Home fans sang Zaha’s name throughout the match at Selhurst Park.

In the night’s other match, Leeds drew 1-1 at home to Everton but lost a key player in captain Rodrigo, who walked off the field midway through the first half after dislocating his shoulder in a seemingly innocuous clash with Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Colombia winger Luis Sinisterra scored his first Premier League goal to earn Leeds a point, cancelling out Anthony Gordon’s first-half strike.

Busy signal Shares His Jamaica Pride When Traveling In Calls For Peace

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Veteran dancehall artist, Busy Signal, has one wish for Jamaica, and that is that there will be peace on the island. As Jamaicans get ready to celebrate the nation’s diamond jubilee, this dream has come even more into focus.

The “One More Night” deejay made the comments during a recent interview with the Star.

He added that even though that wish may seem impossible right now, especially with violent crime on the rise, he prays for a peaceful Jamaica. While it may seem somewhat unattainable at the moment, he added that it’s a matter of putting positive vibes out into the universe.

His dream extends to seeing a Jamaica without the numerous amount of crimes, senseless violence, and altercations.

The latest data shows that there have been 968 murders between January 1 and August 22 in Jamaica.

The “Come Over” artists also shared that it was not just about the violent crimes but that there are other socioeconomic changes that have to take place before Jamaica can realize its fullest potential. He added that one of the issues that must be addressed is true equality.

“I just want equality as well not just upper class. I want equality for all classes of Jamaicans. We should just be comfortable and enjoy the paradise that we have pon di rock, our little island Jamaica, that’s very great,” he said.

It may be because his illustrious career has taken him around the world that he has a different perspective on the issues that Jamaica is currently facing.

Busy Signal admitted that having the opportunity to travel the globe has helped him to better understand how Jamaicans are perceived. The dancehall veteran said that sometimes people may say negative things, but in the end, he’s noticed that no matter what being Jamaican is a thing filled with pride.

The distinction makes every Jamaican unique because they are different from any other place in the world, he continued.

“You come from [the] USA, you come from Canada, you come from England, it’s not that feeling you get when a person asks, ‘You’re a Jamaican?’ When you go to Madagascar, or different parts of Africa, or just different parts of the world, and people find out that you’re Jamaican, it’s just that type of distinctive difference,” he added.

Busy Signal, whose real name is Reanno Devon Gordon, is a born and bred Jamaican who was born in St Ann and grew up in several areas around the island, including Tivoli Gardens and Spanish Town. He’s been in the competitive dancehall genre since 2005 and has been able to maintain a very successful career.

The “Dreams of Brighter Days” singer revealed that he is working on new music but did not let on too much about what he had in store for his fans.

One of his latest projects was a single called “Big Up Jamaica” in collaboration with Red Stripe for its Jamaica 60 campaign. Busy recently released two new singles, “Old School New School” and “Feeling,” with Oryane and Blaiz Fayah.

His wish for a peaceful and prosperous Jamaica is probably echoed by all living on the island who are hoping that the recent spate of violence will soon dissipate.
