Screams of grief for murdered Gonzales man among five killed in 18 hours

‘HAVE MERCY!’: A relative of Delano Pierre is being consoled on the corner of Observatory and Quarry Streets, Port of Spain, after he was shot and killed while driving a Port of Spain Corporation vehicle on Monday. – AYANNA KINSALE

RESIDENTS of Harpe Place, who were looking on as police processed the murder scene of murdered Port of Spain City Corporation driver Delano Pierre, were silenced on Tuesday afternoon when his daughter came and began screaming out for him.

Pierre, police said, was killed at about 2 pm as he was driving out of the corporation’s Divisional Headquarters located at the corner of Quarry and Observatory Streets, Port of Spain. The 46-year-old of Jubilee Street, Gonzales, died after two men shot him at least seven times. The killers then ran away.

Police said Pierre was killed merely for living in an area where some men were at war with men from another area. Opposite where he was killed is Harpe Place. On Monday night two men were shot there, resulting in one death.

Police said both Harpe Place and Gonzales are mainly the Rasta City Gang’s territory. There are pockets of Gonzales that are controlled by the Six Gang. Those two gangs are at war.

Pierre was not a member of either, nor was he a member of any other gang.

As police processed the crime scene, taking photographs and interviewing family members who arrived, residents of Harpe Place peeped through their windows, murmuring.

The chatter, audible, but not loud, died when the child screamed her first “Daddy!”

Those who in between their chats made inside jokes, became quiet. Young men who were previously observed talking, stopped. A few women were seen with their eyes filled with tears. One could not hold it any longer and cried, as Pierre’s daughter screamed repeatedly for her father.

The woman who began crying was overheard saying she could not control her emotions.

“I can’t take this nah! I feeling sorry for she. She give me a headache one time.”

Pierre’s daughter arrived at about 3.35 pm and did not stop crying until the family left the scene. She stopped screaming for a while and started again around 4 pm, when undertakers began removing Pierre’s body from the Hyundai truck in which he was killed.

As she screamed, she was joined by another relative who shouted out for Jesus to have mercy on the killers.

“What he do to deserve this? Because he from Gonzales? This is overbearing! Have mercy Jesus! This is a senseless killing. He came to work to make a dollar” she shouted.

As she shouted, three police officers who were huddled together were overheard asking each other “When will it end?”

The woman, who identified herself as Pierre’s cousin continued shouting saying had Pierre been her child she would have responded differently. The officers on hearing this said among themselves that such comments were the norm at murder scenes.

After Pierre’s body was removed and his daughter was being taken away from the crime scene, a police officer with the Victim and Witness Support Unit spoke with her and those with her. Among them was one of Pierre’s cousins, a police officer, who left her colleagues side and hugged and cried with other relatives when the daughter began crying out for her father.

Pierre was one of five men murdered between Monday night and Tuesday afternoon and was the second man killed while in that area.

On Monday night, 27-year-old Laventille man and Rasta City member Avery Weekes was shot while walking along Observatory Street. He ran into Harpe Place and was followed. He collapsed and the killer stood over him and shot him repeatedly.

Police said at about 8.30 pm the killer came out of a white car, shot Weekes and jumped back in the car and escaped after driving along Bath Street.

Weekes was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital and was declared dead on arrival. Another man was shot in the back in the attack and is warded in a stable condition.

Eight hours after Weekes was shot, two men were killed while on their way to work in Arima. The men were killed 30 minutes apart with police unsure if it was done by the same person/people.

Police reported that at about 4 am, Darryl Jessop, an employee of Swissport, was found dead after they responded to a report of gunshots in the area.

Residents of Mt Zion, Maturita, police said, reported hearing gunshots and called the police, who found Jessop’s body. Jessop lived at Tumpuna Road, Cumuto, and was staying with relatives in the area.

In the second Arima shooting, 57-year-old Brian Carter was found dead after residents of Hoyte Avenue, heard gunshots. Carter worked at Coca-Cola and lived about 200 metres from where he was killed.

The fifth man murdered within the 18 hour span was Dennis Nero of River Road, Lower Santa Cruz.

Nero, a mason with the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) was standing on Saddle Road near the Croisse at about 6 am when a man walked up to him and shot him in the head.

Nero died at the scene. He was killed between two police stations, the San Juan Sub Station and San Juan Police Station.

The killing of the five men took the murder toll to 380 for the year.

WI Kulcha CEO ‘Ringtone’ promises to shed light on Mexico Loop Barbados

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Barbados News

Dominican-born Montserrat-raised Jarrell Fenton, alias Ringtone, is ready to talk about WI Kulcha’s first party trip that was to pop off in Mexico from August 18 to August 22, 2022.

Promised a trip of the lifetime for one upfront fee to have their flight included, ground transportation to the planned fetes/events and tour excursions as well as accommodation, many of the 70 customers who bought into the idea have been on social media, especially Twitter telling horror stories of the debacle, fiasco, and melee that unfolded to their disappointment.

On August 17 when some patrons arrived in Tulum to no warm greetings and signs upheld at the airport to identify the WI Kulcha team members, Spidey sense started tingling for some, while others responded in angst on learning that the ground transportation had left before their arrival.

From the outside, many were unaware of any hiccups, as patrons posted ‘omw to Mexico’, ‘next stop Tulum’, ‘doing it fuh wi kulcha’, etc on their socials. There was very little buzz after the departure posts. However, on August 19, when WI Kulcha posted a vibey video shot by hired videographer, commonly known as ‘Kris Shot It’, from the first event on the itinerary ‘Jet Lag’ (held August 18), people who were watching from abroad started feeling a sort of way about missing this inaugural trip from the promoter and his team.

But then there was more radio silence.

Until August 22, when WI Kulcha posted an apology to their Twitter saying that a death led to one partner pulling out at the last minute and that had a snowball effect that brought plans crashing down. Refunds were promised and the team took responsibility for the shortcomings.

Following the apology, patrons then started to open up and speak out loudly via Twitter sharing their stories of what unfolded night by night and day by day. There was a series of Spaces hosted on Twitter on the night of August 22 and some boisterous patrons did not mince their words or bite their tongues, though one or two contributed but refused to share too much detail with over 2,000 people listening in at least one of the Spaces ably-hosted by Twitter handle @Krxx_x. Many listeners applauded how he commanded the Space, moderated, and asked the crucial questions of the patrons who felt scammed. Another Space was done by Enigma on Twitter as he was one now seeking reimbursement for his downpayment for the WI Kulcha Bali trip, that was slated for 2023.

WI Kulcha’s CEO has, however, asserted that he too will address the matter beyond the posted apology. He said that he will release a statement today, August 24, 2022.

Fenton, in a thread, tweeted:

“I’ll put out a statement tomorrow morning (Aug 24th) regarding the Mexico trip, etc. Yesterday, my main priorities were making sure everyone got to the airport or land border safely and assisting a patron who had a medical emergency.

“As expressed to patrons, I take full responsibility for the mishaps on the trip. However, I am extremely disheartened by some of the exaggerations, sensationalizing and lies in regards to certain events.”

WI Kulcha issues apology to 70 patrons who took the trip to Mexico Loop Barbados

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Barbados News

WI Kulcha has posted a public apology on Twitter to say sorry to 70 patrons who did not have the trip they were promised.

The apology stated:

“It was amazing to host nearly 70 Caribbean people on a group trip; seeing persons from all over the region and diaspora instantly connect and vibe like old friends was magical!

“However, we must acknowledge that the death of the wife of our travel concierge partner on the morning of the first day of the trip caused him to pull out of managing crucial logistics at the very last moment. WI extend sincerest condolences to the family.

“This tragic event had a domino effect on many aspects of the trip. We’re dedicated to compensating each and every one of you. We take full responsibility for these mishaps and make no excuses. Details to follow via email and text.

“Finally, we’ll be using this experience as an opportunity to refine all of our processes from the ground up and do way better in the future.”

It was published on August 22, 2022, the day after the Mexico trip was to conclude and patrons were to depart Tulum and head back home or to their next destinations. WI Kulcha Mexico was to be held from August 18 to August 21.

Alkaline is back on the airwaves with his new song, “Lone Madness.”

The head of the Vendetta clan has managed to maintain a consistent presence on dancehall airwaves over the past decade with a regular supply of new music. Owner of the longest standing CBI programme, St Kitts and Nevis, takes top spot at this year’s annual CBI Index

Black Immigrant Daily News

News Americas, Basseterre, St. Kitts, Aug. 24, 2022: The Caribbean nation of St Kitts and Nevis tops this year’s CBI Index rankings for offering one of the best citizenship by investment (CBI) programmes in the world.

St Kitts and Nevis was rated against 12 other countries with operational CBI programmes, which, in 2022, include Antigua and Barbuda, Austria, Cambodia, Dominica, Egypt, Grenada, Jordan, Malta, Montenegro, St Lucia, Turkey and Vanuatu.

The CBI Index, published by PWM Magazine, a publication from the Financial Times in collaboration with CS Global Partners, is a rating system designed to measure the performance and appeal of global CBI programmes across a diverse range of indicators and its purpose is to provide a rigorous and systematic mechanism for appraising programmes in order to facilitate the decision-making process for individuals considering them, and to bring value to the CBI industry

The primary methodological objective of the CBI Index is to isolate pillars that measure CBI programme features and jurisdictional desirability. The nine pillars that constitute this year’s CBI Index include: Freedom of Movement, Standard of Living, Minimum Investment Outlay, Mandatory Travel or Residence, Citizenship Timeline, Ease of Processing, Due Diligence, Family and, Certainty of Product.

The country received full marks – 10 out of 10 in the Mandatory Travel or Residence, Citizenship Timeline, Ease of Processing, Due Diligence, Family and Certainty of Product pillars.

The Mandatory Travel or Residence pillar examines the travel or residence conditions imposed on applicants both before and after the granting of citizenship.

St Kitts and Nevis, along with the rest of the Caribbean countries, does not have any travel or residency requirements for CBI applicants. This makes it easy for busy entrepreneurs to continue running their businesses and still be eligible to get their second citizenship while not having to fulfil any minimum stay requirements.

St Kitts and Nevis scored top marks for the Citizenship Timeline pillar – which looks at the average time taken for citizenship to be secured by the applicant – due to the Accelerated Application Process where for an additional fee, an applicant can obtain their citizenship within a maximum of 60 days instead of the standard processing time of approximately three months.

Ease of Processing measures the end-to-end complexity of the CBI application process. St Kitts and Nevis makes the process of obtaining citizenship easy and straightforward, the country has an official government website and a dedicated CBI unit. It has also done away with burdensome application requirements such as interviews, language, culture or history tests, proof of minimum business experience and evidence of the purchase of tangible or intangible assets.

The overall effortlessness of the application process is a particularly important component, and the promise of a smooth, hassle-free process can generate readiness to engage with a programme.

One of the areas where Caribbean nations really differentiate their programmes, is the area of due diligence. St Kitts and Nevis’ due diligence process is multi-faceted and is undertaken by the country’s CBI unit, law enforcement and external third-party due-diligence agencies from the UK and USA. This ensures that the process is stringent and comprehensive, applicants are required to provide either fingerprints or a biometric passport, police certificates from both an applicant’s country of residence as well as their country of citizenship and comprehensive supporting information in respect of an applicant’s source of funds.

The CBI Index recognises that the rise of increasingly complex family relationships is driving investors to seek programmes that allow for a more diverse range of family members to be included under a primary application. St Kitts and Nevis retains a perfect score for their family friendliness as, in addition to a main applicant, they allow the applicant’s spouse, children under 18 and over 18 in certain circumstances, siblings, parents and grandparents of both the main applicant or their spouse to be included in an application.

St Kitts and Nevis’ CBI programme is one of the oldest in the industry, having been established in 1984, it assures investors of a certainty of product. The CBI Index measures certainty across five different dimensions: longevity, popularity and renown, stability, reputation, and adaptability – aspects which St Kitts and Nevis’ programme can tick off confidently.

In the 2022 CBI Index, the Freedom of Movement pillar measures the relative strength of each country’s citizenship based on three equally weighted factors: the number of destinations to which a country’s passport allows travel without restriction, the number of prime business hubs to which it provides access, and the degree to which a given citizenship provides settlement rights in other nations. St Kitts and Nevis scored a seven out of 10 in this area as it offers visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 156 countries.

The Minimum Investment Outlay pillar measures one of the most practical and foremost considerations of CBI: how much capital is required for the investor to become an eligible applicant for the programme of their choosing.

St Kitts and Nevis offers one of the most affordable routes to alternative citizenship, and even though it ended its limited time offer of US$150,000 for a family of four at the end of December 2021, it did not impact its score, five out of 10, as the scores are based on minimum investments for a single applicant.

The St Kitts and Nevis CBI programme is a family-friendly route for those looking for a reputable and trusted programme that prioritises both applicants and its citizens – the stringent due diligence process upon application ensures that only honest hard-working families are approved. The citizenship can also be passed down to future generations, giving investors who want to leave a legacy, peace of mind.
