The concept is simple. Two top photographers, one model, and ten minutes on the clock. Ameer Hosein’s photo challenge is capturing the imagination of fans of photography around the country.

LoopTT met up with him on a rainy Labour Day holiday as he was shooting episode six of his challenge at Aerial World Service in Couva. His team of producer/director Kylie Jacob and videographer Thruston Benny were already preparing the scene with this week’s guest photographer Shannon Britto.

The concept was inspired by Jessica Kobeissi’s series on Youtube.

“She has like five or four photographers shooting like one model. It’s like a whole series like about half an hour long. And I was like, Oh, this is really fun. Maybe I can interact with other photographers, connect and reach out to a bunch of different people,” Hosein said. ” I just want to add my Trini flavour, my Trini spin on it and show off all the beautiful places in Trinidad.”

Hosein hopes to make 11 episodes this year of his photography challenge and come December, he wants to make a documentary-style recap of all the episodes, inviting back all the photographers and models to have them talk about the experience.

“I can take a picture that looks a certain way; you can take the same picture but it will look completely different. So each person have a different style of what they do.” Hosein said.

So far he’s been overwhelmed by the response from photographers and models alike that have reached out to him. In the future he hopes to teach or even open his own school to train the next generation of photographers.

You can catch all the episodes on Ameer’s instagram page ameerhoseintt.

Lovell is out of his depths: PM Browne responds to Lovell on ECAB statements

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has responded to statements made by UPP Leader Harold Lovell about government shares in ECAB.

Browne said:

“This Dude, Lovell is out of his depths and is clueless about national ownership and empowerment.

He is now holding us to the same failures of the UPP administration, in which they borrowed hundreds of millions from the domestic banks, thereby crowding out local investments.

Supreme idiocy, holding ABLP to his/UPP standards of failure, corruption and mismanagement.”

Usain Bolt Drops ‘9.58 Riddim’ With Vybz Kartel and Chronic Law

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

The sprint legend turn music producer has released his fifth studio album with several dancehall artists.

The album was named ‘9.58 Riddim’ after Usain Bolt’s iconic 100-meter world record was released on Friday through his own A-Team Lifestyle label. In 2009, Bolt won the 100m race in 9.58 seconds, and his world record is still unbeaten.

The producer says that the six-track project was inspired by that achievement which recently came into the spotlight again after the recent World Championships in Oregon, where it was speculated that an American sprinter was going to break it, but alas, the Americans do not have the mettle to test the Jamaican’s strength and stamina.

“It was just the energy the riddim gave me. It has the tempo and vibes, so the idea just came to me to name it after my 100m record,” Bolt said about the name.

Usain Bolt is one, if not the most decorated sprinter in history, as an eight-time Olympic gold medallist and the only athlete to consecutively win the Olympic 100m and 200m titles at three Olympic events in 2008, 2012, and 2016.

Usain Bolt also holds two 4×100 relay gold medals, but his greatest achievement is his world record times for his double sprint victory at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

He is still the first and only person to hold both records since the fully automatic time was implemented.

In the meantime, the album features Vybz Kartel’s “Touch The Sky”, Chronic Law’s “Money Fast, Iwaata with “Different”, Quada with “Levels”, Ajji with “Own Don” and Topmann with “Who Wi”.

The project is available on all streaming platforms, including Apple Music and Spotify.

Bolt previously released his first album ‘Olympe Rosé’, his second ‘Usain Bolt Presents: Immortal Riddim’, his third, ‘Usain Bolt Presents: Clockwork Riddim’, and his fourth project, Country Yutes, which saw good reception with fans, having debuted at No. 1 on the iTunes Reggae Albums chart in the U.S.

According to the producer, his latest album shows his growth as a producer.

“I just want to continue to grow as a producer in the business… I’m learning each day,” he continued.

Black Immigrant Daily News

Acting prison boss says ‘1735’ is no place for mentally ill inmates

Black Immigrant Daily News

Prison

Acting prison boss Jermaine Anthony should let the Minister of Public Safety know how he feels about the deplorable conditions with which inmates have to contend and under which prison officers must work, says Franz deFreitas.

DeFreitas, the United Progressive Party Candidate for St. John’s City South, was responding to a Daily Observer article in which the Acting Superintendent of Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP) details a number of concerns affecting the penal institution.

These include the increased number of mentally ill persons being sent to the facility.

The news article quotes Anthony as saying that, at present, there are 15 such inmates suffering from an array of mental-health issues.

However, neither he nor his staff are trained to deal with these persons; nor do they have the resources or facilities to house and provide the necessary mental-health care for them.

Reportedly, the condition of some of these persons has deteriorated drastically since they are not receiving proper treatment.

Anthony is appealing to the courts to intervene in this situation. He says several of those with mental conditions have been on remand for extended periods, or have committed minor infractions, or are unable to afford bail.

Reportedly, he has also made his plight known to the Director of the Clarevue Psychiatric Hospital, whose response, he told the newspaper, has been “unacceptable.”

Meanwhile, a source says the courts can only recommend that these inmates be kept at the Prison for committing a crime and suggest they receive psychiatric treatment; after all, Clare Vue is not a prison.

In spite of these complaints, Anthony appears not to have informed the Minister who can effect changes and identify a facility to house mentally challenged inmates.

Accordingly, deFreitas says the acting prison boss’ concerns should be directed to Minister Steadroy “Cutie” Benjamin under whose portfolio the institution falls.

Other issues affecting the prison include the longstanding reality of overcrowding; the ratio of prison officer to inmates; and an inconsistent water supply.

Infrastructural problems run from a non-functional surveillance system; an overloaded electrical system; insufficient bathrooms; poor ventilation and structural deterioration.

In terms of the prisoners’ welfare, Anthony reports there is an absence of rehabilitation programmes and inadequate internal medical-care facilities.

The prison was constructed in 1735 — the name by which many people refer to the facility. It was intended to house 150 inmates; however, the current count is 238 males and female.

President Biden tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday, days after he logged a negative test after taking Paxlovid to treat the virus, he said on Twitter.

Biden, 79, posted on Twitter that so-called “rebound” cases like his happen “with a small minority of folks.”

“I’ve got no symptoms but I am going to isolate for the safety of everyone around me,” the tweet said. “I’m still at work, and will be back on the road soon.”

President Biden announced he tested positive again for COVID-19 on Twitter.

Biden first tested positive for COVID on July 21, and subsequently tested negative Tuesday night after being administered the drug Paxlovid.

White House Physician Dr. Kevin O’Connor said in a letter on Saturday that Biden was among “a small percentage” of Paxlovid recipients who saw their symptoms “rebound.”

Biden tested positive on an antigen test and will isolate in case he is contagious, O’Connor.

Will Smith Issued Video Apology To Chris Rock Months After Oscar Slap

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Will Smith broke his silence for the first time since he dealt comedian Chris Rock a slap during the live broadcast of the Oscars on March 27.

Smith has been condemned widely for his actions which were in response to a joke Rock read created by the event organizers that made fun of Jada Pinkett-Smith’s balding head.

On Friday, the video saw the disgraced actor speaking on camera for the first time as he issued a personal apology to Rock for slapping him.

“I’ve reached out to Chris and the message that came back is that he’s not ready to talk, and when he is he will reach out,” Will Smith said as he read a question that was asked of him. “So I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you. My behaviour was unacceptable, and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.”

“I was fogged out by that point. It’s all fuzzy,” he said about the aftermath of the moment that stunned millions on TV.

The King Richards actor also said that he didn’t realize that many people were hurt by his actions as he apologized to Chris Rock’s family, including his brother Tony Rock who had previously said he was ready for the smoke to get back at Smith.

“I saw an interview that his mother did. That’s one of the things about that moment I didn’t realize, I wasn’t thinking, but how many people got hurt in that moment,” he said.

“So I want to apologize to Chris’s mother; I want to apologize to Chris’s family, specifically Tony Rock. We had a great relationship. Tony Rock was my man. This is probably irreparable,” Will said.

“I spent the last three months replaying and understanding the complexities and nuances of what happened,” Smith said, adding, “I’m not gonna try to unpack all of that right now but I can say to you, there was no part of me that thought that was the right way to behave in that moment,” he added.

Chris Rock has never spoken about the incident, and although he has made jokes about it, days ago, he had said he would speak about it when he is ready.

Smith had previously released a statement days after the event as he claimed that the joke which made fun of his wife’s alopecia was hurtful, and he also felt his wife’s hurt leading to him reacting “emotionally.”

Smith has been criticized for his wishy-washy apology to Rock.

“I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness,” he had said.
