Jaheel Hyde and Kemar Mowatt have qualified for the semifinals of the men’s 400m hurdles in Eugene, Oregon.

Hyde, who trains at Cameron Blazers, track club, came third in his heat in a time of 50.03s. The race was won by the world record holder in the event, Norway’s Karsten Warholm.

The 25-year-old Hyde will be looking to do better than the semi-final round he achieved at last summer’s Tokoyo Olympics.

Fellow Olympian, Mowatt, jogged to 49.44s, in the process finishing second to the Brazilian, Alison Dos Santos who clocked 49.41 in what could be described as a stroll around the track.

The third Jamaican in the event, Shawn Rowe, qualified as one of the fastest losers despite finishing 6th in his heat in a time of 49.51s.

So fast was this heat that seven athletes qualified, including three of the four fastest losers overall.

National recorder holder Lamara Distin and Kimberley Williamson have both qualified for Tuesday’s final of the women’s high jump at the 2022 World Athletic Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

Both women cleared the bar at 1.90m for 10th and 11th best to make the final 12. Nine women cleared the bar at 1.93m.

Going into the championships, Distin had a personal best of 1.97m which gave her a fourth-placed world ranking.

Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) within the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) met on Wednesday 13 July to review updates on regional health system strengthening even as the COVID-19 pandemic drags on.

The 30th Meeting of Chief Medical Officers was convened virtually and saw them discussing inter alia, the CARPHA-led response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the current state of inoculation for COVID-19 and other infectious diseases.

Issues concerning the implementation of the Port-of-Spain Declaration that sets out CARICOM’s actions to address the high burden of chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) were also on the agenda.

This included a presentation by the Programme Manager Health Sector Development CARICOM, Dr. Karen Gordon-Boyle, updating the meeting on the joint policy decision by the Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD) and the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) to recognise trans fats as harmful to health and to support the efforts of the Inter-Governmental Working Group (IGWG) on Unhealthy Diets and Obesogenic Food to eliminate industrially produced trans fatty acids (IP-TFA) from the regional food supply.

3- Antoine Lefort (Jardin botanique )

4- Marcelin Wilbon (Ti cochon là)

5- Jean Forbin (Guadeloupe Port Caraïbes)

6- Mathieu Moures (Aigle des mers )

Une belle arrivée à Gourbeyre

ANDRE SIMON UPDATE: Possibility of additional delays and expenses

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Antigua News Room

Updates on Andre

16 th July 2022

Thank you all for your support.

– Andre arrived to Texas with a pressure ulcer/wound (on posterior region) and this is interfering with the treatment programme.

After assessment, it was classified as a stage 3 wound and an X-ray was carried out to see if the infection reached the bone (it did not). This interference has led the doctors to discuss the possibility of a temporary transfer to a specialized (LTAC facility) to deal with the wound and infections. This challenge could mean additional delays and expenses with a second medical facility.

– Andre is now using a specialized bed (air fluidized therapy) to help the wound heal fast and minimize the need for turning

– He is increasingly breathing better through his nose. This is good. It is one step closer to removing his trach

– His vitals are great

– his physical appearance is returning to normal and the little bruises around his body are healing

– He was initially on an anti- seizure medication and they plan to wean him off of this since he is not demonstrating any seizures and that drug can make him feel cloudy/drowsy

– He is taking his food really well so he will hopefully but back on his weight soon.
