Principal of the John Rollins Success Primary School in St James Yvonne Wisdom has revealed that there were nine occurrences of vomiting by students at the institution on Friday.

She stated that a teacher was also reportedly vomiting at the school.

The school called in the St James Health Department to determine what was behind the cause of the vomiting which started during a maths presentation at the school Friday morning.

Parents responded to the call to collect the affected children.

Wisdom said classes were not disrupted by the cases of vomiting at the school.

The school is now awaiting a report from the St James Health Department regarding their findings on the issue.

St George’s College relocates to UTT Valsayn

Students and teachers of St George’s College, Barataria, will begin classes at UTT Valsayn on Monday, following closure of the school for extensive repairs to the school building.

A release from the Chief Education Officer on October 21 addressed to the principal and teachers said arrangements would be made for the students to occupy the UTT’s Valsayn campus at Spring Village, Valsayn on October 28.

“The arrangements include relocation of furniture, assignment of classes, and relocation of furniture. You are kindly asked to update the parents of these arrangements and to inform them of the date in which their child/children will be required to report to physical classes at this location. Your usual cooperation is anticipated.”

The school’s alumni association began fundraising to assist the school on Tuesday. In a post on its Facebook group it said, “We are working with the principal, staff, the Education Ministry and the Parent-Teacher Student Association (PTSA) to determine what the immediate and longer term needs are and we will keep everyone abreast of details as information comes to hand.

“For the moment, we have been advised that the keys to the temporary location (UTT Valsayn) should be received this week as that location also needed to be prepared to house the staff and students.”

The school closed on October 10 and went to online teaching after the ceiling fell in the hallway at the front of the staff room on October 6 following heavy rains.

On October 9, the school’s PTSA posted a message in their Facebook group from principal Dr Asha Ramraj-Sookdeo saying the school would be closed from October 10 as the Education Ministry continued to assess and rectify the situation with the roof and ceiling infrastructure.

“Please ensure that our students are working constructively and reviewing all the work they have done so far for term.

“We apologise for this inconvenience, however at this point it is unavoidable to ensure the safety of our staff and students.”

A virtual meeting was held by the association on Friday to discuss orientation, transportation arrangements, safety issues, responsible use of the UTT facility, and parents’ concerns.

Efforts to reach Ramraj-Sookdeo or Education Minister Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly on Friday to ask about the extent of the repairs needed and the possible length of the temporary relocation were not successful.

THE matriarch of the Manning clan, Esther Manning, has died at the age of 105.

Esther Manning was the widow of Arnold Manning, and mother of former prime minister Patrick Manning who died on July 2, 2016.

She died on Saturday morning at the family’s Cocoyea Village, San Fernando home where she and her husband raised the late PNM leader along with his sisters, Dr Petronella Manning-Alleyne, Pamela and Panzetta.

In an immediate announcement, Anglican priest, Rev Dr Knolly Clarke noted the loss of two of stalwarts, Esther Manning and Wayne Charles, whom he said contributed to the musical life of the church.

San Fernando East MP Brian Manning – the son of Patrick Manning – said his grandmother was very much involved in the musical landscape of the Anglican Church, particularly St Paul’s Anglican on Harris Promenade, San Fernando, where he and his family attended every Sunday.

“She was a long- time manager of the St Paul’s Anglican Church. She managed the Sunday School, which I attended while growing up. She led the church choir and the Mother’s Union for an extended period of time.

“During my entire childhood, I think, she was the choir leader.”

Manning said his late grandmother was very influential in his upbringing and in him becoming the man he is today.

“In terms of discipline,” he explained.

“She was a great disciplinarian. She taught discipline and ensured my parents brought us (he and his brother David) to Sunday school every Sunday.

“She would call and complain if they didn’t,” he said.

He recalled visiting her during the election campaign where she gave him her blessings. His visits were curtailed during the covid19 pandemic because of her frailty and he did not want to accidentally infect her. Brian and his wife, Shelly Dass, contracted the virus in December 2021.

“She was ailing for some time. I passed by the house a few times when the restrictions were lifted and she was going strong.”

He said her health waned earlier this year, but she recovered, much to everyone’s surprise.

“She was doing well but on Saturday she transitioned.”

Funeral arrangements are yet to be arranged.

Le corps sans vie d’un enfant autiste de 12 ans, porté disparu vendredi, a été retrouvé samedi par sa famille, à Marseille sur les rives du fleuve Huveaune, porteur de “plaies à l’arme blanche”, a annoncé le parquet à l’AFP en fin d’après-midi.

“La mère de l’enfant a été placée en garde à vue, compte tenu des constats de la police technique et scientifique dans l’appartement” familial, a précisé à peine deux heures plus tard la procureure de la République de Marseille Dominique Laurens, toujours à l’AFP.

L’enfant, autiste selon son oncle et sa tante qui se sont exprimés auprès de l’AFP sur place dans l’après-midi, dans le quartier populaire de la Capelette, aurait échappé à la surveillance de sa mère vendredi, vers 16H00, lors d’une promenade.

Selon Mme Laurens, la mère aurait signalé la disparition de son enfant vendredi.

L’oncle et la tante de l’enfant ont affirmé à l’AFP que la famille aurait averti une première fois le commissariat vers 17H00, puis une nouvelle fois vers 22H00, leurs recherches étant toujours infructueuses.

Le corps a été découvert par le père et l’oncle de l’enfant, a insisté Mme Laurens, en précisant que l’enquête avait été confiée à la police judiciaire.

La famille a affirmé à l’AFP avoir d’abord retrouvé la veste de l’enfant samedi matin, vers 08H30, au bord de l’Huveaune, avant de finalement retrouver le corps vers 13H00, toujours au bord du fleuve, à une centaine de mètres de distance, en bas d’une pente raide donnant sur l’eau, dans des herbes hautes et des broussailles.

Le cadavre présente “des plaies à l’arme blanche”, a précisé la procureure à l’AFP, en parlant également “de nombreuses traces de sang sur le trajet de la découverte du corps”.

Sur des images prises par l’oncle avec son téléphone portable, que l’AFP a pu voir, l’enfant, habillé, est en position latérale, le visage tourné vers les broussailles, du sang sur un bras et sur le ventre. Toujours selon l’oncle, les marins-pompiers auraient conseillé à la famille de s’éloigner, le visage de l’enfant étant “abîmé”.

“Nous sommes allés voir la police tout de suite”, a répété la tante samedi auprès de l’AFP: “Quand c’est un enfant autiste comme lui, on ne laisse pas repartir les parents comme ça, on trouve une patrouille pour aller chercher”, a-t-elle poursuivi.

“Si ils étaient venus plus tôt…. Après, je ne sais pas ce que ça aurait changé”, a-t-elle ajouté, visiblement en colère. Informée quelques instants plus tard du placement en garde à vue de la mère, la tante a aussitôt fondu en larmes.

L’oncle, la tante et deux voisins de la famille ont assuré à l’AFP avoir cherché l’enfant jusqu’à 03H00 du matin.

Le génie de Neymar et Lionel Messi a sauvé le Paris SG d’un épineux faux pas contre Troyes (4-3), samedi au Parc des Princes en Ligue 1, une victoire obtenue malgré d’inquiétantes brèches défensives.

Que peut-il arriver au PSG lorsque les trois stars de sa “MNM”, Messi-Neymar-Mbappé, surfent sur une telle dynamique et y vont chacun de leur but ?

Contre ce genre d’adversaire, combatif 11e du classement mais logiquement inférieur techniquement, pas grand chose. Mais lorsque le niveau s’élèvera, Paris ferait bien de gommer ses erreurs défensives, car même samedi, il n’a pas été loin de sombrer.

Malgré cette 11e victoire en L1 cette saison, malgré la première place du PSG au classement avec cinq points d’avance, l’entraîneur Christophe Galtier ne pourra pas sortir de ce weekend avec satisfaction, la faute à d’énormes largesses défensives.

“L’équipe a beaucoup plus pensé à attaquer, mais ça ne peut pas être comme ça. Il y a un équilibre à respecter”, a pesté l’entraîneur Christophe Galtier après la rencontre. “On a beaucoup de choses à corriger. Si vous prenez trois buts en Ligue des champions, vous avez peu de chances de l’emporter”.

Le dossier de la défense risque bien d’atterrir tout en haut de la pile sur le bureau de l’encadrement technique, dès mercredi à Turin contre la Juventus, où Paris visera la première place de son groupe de Ligue des champions.

Le débat avait déjà été ouvert cette semaine après les deux buts encaissés contre le Maccabi Haïfa sur coups de pieds arrêtés (7-2).

Samedi, les Parisiens n’ont pas eu besoin de corners ou coups francs défensifs pour sombrer en défense: l’attentisme de Nordi Mukiele et l’immobilisme de Presnel Kimpembe dans le jeu ont ouvert des boulevards à Mama Baldé, double buteur, à chaque début de mi-temps (3e, 52e). Et en toute fin de match, un cafouillage sur corner a offert à Ante Palaversa la réduction du score (88e).

Le PSG n’avait plus encaissé trois buts au Parc des Princes depuis février 2020, une victoire 4-3, déjà, contre Bordeaux en Ligue 1.

Messi-Neymar, duo de feu

Mais avec un Neymar aussi aérien et un Messi aussi inspiré à trois semaines du Mondial-2022 au Qatar, Paris a de la marge en L1.

L’Argentin a soigné ses statistiques, en marquant d’un missile à 30 mètres (55e), puis en adressant une passe décisive laser à son coéquipier brésilien sept minutes plus tard (62e). Il compte désormais 12 buts et 13 passes décisives cette saison toutes compétitions confondues.

Neymar a de son côté été l’attaquant le plus en vue, de par ses incessantes combinaisons, son but, et sa passe décisive lumineuse pour Carlos Soler sur le premier but (24e).

Le milieu espagnol est le grand gagnant du récent changement tactique opéré par l’entraîneur Christophe Galtier: déjà buteur mardi, il a récidivé samedi, et a obtenu le penalty transformé en fin de match (77e) par Kylian Mbappé, très maladroit pendant le reste de la rencontre.

Une attaque prolifique qui masque un peu les difficultés de la défense à quatre, encore loin d’être au point.

Mukiele a eu de la peine comme arrière droit malgré quelques bons retours et tacles. Kimpembe, de retour de blessure, n’avait clairement pas retrouvé sa hargne habituelle, et Sergio Ramos n’était pas non plus dans un grand jour.

Préservé au coup d’envoi, le capitaine Marquinhos a même, lui aussi, semblé un peu passif sur le dernier but troyen.

Quelle réaction de l’arrière garde parisienne à Turin ? Il s’agira de l’un des enjeux majeurs de la rencontre. Car la “MNM” ne pourra pas sauver Paris à tous les matches, d’autant que Neymar sera suspendu contre la Juve.

10 ans après ses précédents passages et figure du jazz cubain, le pianiste cubain Roberto Fonseca était de retour en Martinique jeudi soir dans la grande salle de l’Atrium. Un retour en trio cette fois avec Ruly Herrera à la batterie et Yandy Martinez à la basse et à la contrebasse.

Et cette formule fut largement suffisante pour faire découvrir son dernier album « yesun » et pour une fois de plus convaincre la salle comble venu le voir de la qualité de son jeu, héritier du Buena Vista Social Club.
