St Michael North West Member of Parliament Neil Rowe has pleaded not guilty to rape.

The accused appeared in the Oistins Magistrate’s Court before 9:30 am, today, October 24, 2022.

He was granted bail in the sum of $10,000 with one surety.

There was no objection to bail, however, Magistrate Deidre McKenna gave one bail condition, that the accused stay away from the female complainant. She added, “You are not to message her via social media or otherwise.”

Rowe is represented by Attorney-at-law Roger Forde KC and Attorney Safiya Moore.

Wrapping up his remarks on first appearance for Rowe, who was supported in the courtroom by family, friends and the newly-elected CEO of the BLP Senator Patricia Parris, Attorney Forde lamented, “About 15 years ago I came in this court and represented this chap for rape and he got bail and whatever” and the complainant went away and two or three months later, he said, “she came back to my office” and said she felt scorned because he had another lover. So he told the court, “I’m just saying [this to show] how is easy to get charged with rape and come and tell me sorry.”

The case is adjourned until January 30, 2023.

Lil Baby Pulls A Shaggy, Denies Being In Photo With Saweetie Sitting On His Lap

Black Immigrant Daily News

Lil Baby is denying that he was a part of the ‘no face, no case’ photo posted by rapper Saweetie last year.

The photo caused some hurt feelings after Saweetie was spotted sitting on a man’s lap with his outfit showing but not his face. Fans snooping later put two and two together and arrived at the juicy conclusion that Lil Baby was the one in the photo, as his fit from a photo he posted on his account on the same was eerily similar.

While on the Big Facts Podcast, the rapper was asked about whether he was the mystery man in the photo. “Nah,” the rapper said while the hosts erupted in laughter at Lil Baby’s hilarious expression. “It ain’t me. for real, I ain’t be lying, no,” he said while laughing.

Fans have reacted to Lil Baby’s response, but not many think his answer is believable as the events that occurred after Saweetie’s posts have been documented.

Shortly after the picture was posted, Lil Baby appeared to answer fans’ questions about whether they were dating especially given that Saweetie had recently broken up with Quavo and Quavo/Migos and Lil Baby were not particularly friendly.

At the time, too, Lil Baby’s on and off again girlfriend and mother of his son, Jayda Cheaves, also seemed to have an issue with the post.

In an interview in December, Jayda addressed the rumor that her ex was dating Saweetie, noting that not only did she know about the date, which included shopping at Chanel, but she also appeared hurt that Baby would take his date to do something he did with her.

“The day it happened, I knew about it,” Jayda said as she explained that she had eyes and ears in public that kept tabs on Lil Baby.

“How are you gonna do that to Miss Chanel herself? You don’t think I’m gonna find out about that? I was waiting on somebody to say something,” she said.

Despite saying that he was not the guy in the photo, fans also think that Lil Baby was referring to Saweetie in a recent song and taking shots at Quavo as he directly replied to his “swap it out” comments.

Gov’t outlines major plans to improve water distribution locally Loop Jamaica

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Jamaica News Loop News

In citing the myriad of challenges affecting water supply locally, especially in rural areas, the Government is shortly to embark on a major overhaul of the water distribution network as part of several plans to improve access to the commodity.

This, said Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, Matthew Samuda, will fall under a national non-revenue water programme which is expected to significantly impact consumers, particularly those in rural communities.

“This (includes) changing the piping network, managing the pressure (by) ensuring that pumps are properly calibrated, and ensuring that you get the water in your pipes and you don’t see it leaking and running down the road,” he said.

The minister outlined the several major plans to boost the supply of water locally while speaking at the recent commissioning of the upgraded Sligoville water system in St Catherine.

According to Samuda, the National Water Commission (NWC) is slated to commence upgrading its pump systems island-wide in the upcoming financial year.

He elaborated that, “We will start the process of changing out about $900 million to $1 billion worth of pumps annually to remove the oldest most unreliable, electricity-intensive pumps from the system, to ensure that our (power) usage also goes down.

“So, as we move to renewables, to cut the cost and to ensure that we are using clean energy, we are also removing the (outdated systems).”

There have been complaints in recent time from residents that despite being served with water bills by the NWC, there has been little to no water running in their pipes, leading residents to find alternate means of getting access to the commodity.

On Tuesday of last week, some St Mary residents, though largely protesting about bad roads in several communities, also protested about the lack of water in their pipes, despite being legally connected to NWC’s systems.

In pointing to the distribution network being aged and prone to leaks, resulting in high non-revenue water loss, Samuda said the Government has partnered with global water utility company, Miya, on its project to reduce wastage.

Miya’s non-revenue water project, being implemented in Kingston, St Andrew and St Catherine, aims to improve the overall efficiency of the NWC operations.

The project, said Samuda, has realised significant savings of the valuable commodity.

“The non-revenue water that is either stolen or leaks out from bad pipes… has (been) cut… by 50,000 cubic metres daily,” he indicated.

In noting that in 2016, non-revenue water was at approximately 70 per cent, Samuda said that in Kingston and St Andrew, this has been reduced to approximately 30 per cent.

It is anticipated that non-revenue water wastage will be reduced to approximately 30 per cent in St Catherine over the next 12 to 18 months, the minister stated.

American fintech company Fiserv has entered the Jamaican market and is hoping to tap financial institutions and businesses that want to improve their core banking and card issuing capabilities as well as transform their customers’ digital banking experiences.

The US-based company which operates in more than 100 countries, sees Jamaica as a “strategic market,” Fiserv’s Business Director for Central America and the Caribbean, Jaime Tapia, told Loop News.

“We have a robust regional strategy to incorporate financial technology solutions throughout Central America and the Caribbean…The main banks in the region are wondering how to drive their digital banking and financial product issuance plans in the country and are looking for business partners to answer this question,” Tapia said.

He continued: “This is exactly where we enter with solutions such as FirstVision, DigitalAccess and Signature, a robust financial technology portfolio with which we already have a lot of experience in markets such as Mexico, Colombia, Guatemala, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic,” he said.

With several other fintech companies operating in Jamaica, Tapia said the company’s differentiation is based on the fact that Fiserv has one of the broadest portfolios of financial technology solutions and “supports thousands of financial institutions and millions of merchants of different types of businesses through solutions that address payment processing, mobile banking, bank fraud mitigation, as well as automation of financial accounting and operational reconciliations.”

“I am sure that no [other] or very few companies in the industry could claim this,” he said.

The NASDAQ-listed company plans to push its core banking cloud technology platform, a suite of digital omnichannel access solutions that helps banks, credit unions and retailers to deliver digital banking and mobile payment services to their customers as well as technology and security solutions for bank cards (physical and digital), among others.
