PM BROWNE: Observer Media Group and their UPP Allies are going insane

Black Immigrant Daily News

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

Observer Media Group and their UPP Allies are going insane.

They are hell bent on keeping their blind loyalists and unsuspecting supporters/followers in ignorance, even through censorhip of discourse.

He who seeks to undermine, or hide the truth has no moral integrity.

My political opponents have tried for over two decades to break me without success. As a consequence, they have now resorted to hatred.

Their hatred is so egregious, that they have become desperate; accentuating every mole hill, or articulation of humor into a mountain of immorality and illegality, without any supporting facts, or evidence.

I will never allow the limited perceptions of my opponents and the mercenaries who they co-opt from time to time, to define me.

I know who I am.

I am a man of faith; I believe in doing good for the benefit of all. I am realist, not a perfectionists. I do not practice falsities and fakery. What you see is what you get.

I believe in and practice honesty and integrity uncompromisingly. And I am empathetic to the needs of all, especially the poor and vulnerable.

Any guilt surrounding my conduct, is for doing what is right and saying what is true, without malice or ill-will.

The Truth is not always beautiful and it may be offensive, but inviolable.

I stand anyways on the truth.

Notwithstanding their like, or dislike; no one could justifiably condemn me for incompetence, any act of unintegrity, or malevolence towards anyone.

My philanthropy, empathy and kindness are well known and acknowledged.

I do not have to have a motive, or reason to be kind and generous. It is engrained in my psyche, in my being, to be kind and generous, even to those have ridiculed me.

UPP’s misleading and dumbing down rhetoric about Gaston Browne & ABLP, is nothing but cheap, unenlightened, valueless politics.

UPP supporters need to take responsibility to seek other views and information to find the truth. PFM is a great source of information and truth, especially the Browne & Browne show on a Saturday.

It is frightful to see the amount of people who lack integrity; competence, many of them functionally literate, with past criminal convictions, who are dominating the UPP’s hierarchy and exerting a crudely dumb influence on the institution its supporters.

As a consequence of their low level discourse, issues of national, hemispheric and global interests are ignored.

The UPP has failed to join the ABLP in discussing:

Global issues such as climate change, the war on Ukraine, nuclear disarmament, multi-dimensional vulnerability index, reform of UN and the International Financial architecture; hemispheric issues including US policy on Cuba and Venezuela; Domestic policy issues including; green and blue economies, digitalization, regional integration, reliable air and sea transportation, stem cells therapy, block chain/cryptocurrency, cannabis, and overall economic diversification.

The subject of their choice, which has now grown to obsessive proportions, is the demonization of Gaston Browne, using lies, half truths and innuendos.

The various polls including theirs, confirmed that they are losing and losing badly. The demonization of Gaston Browne is evidently not working.

Please circulate the above as a reminder to the UPP leadership that: The definition of insanity, is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

Leon Bailey scores as Aston Villa start post-Gerrard era with 4-0 win Loop Jamaica

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Jamaica News Loop News

Aston Villa responded to the firing of manager Steven Gerrard by scoring three goals in the opening 14 minutes in a 4-0 win over Brentford in the English Premier League on Sunday.

Led by interim coach Aaron Danks, Villa took the lead in the second minute through Leon Bailey before Danny Ings added two more goals — one coming from the penalty spot.

By that time, Villa had scored as many goals as it had in the last six games under Gerrard, who was fired soon after Villa’s 3-0 loss at Fulham last Thursday to end his one-year stint in charge.

Ollie Watkins added a fourth goal in the 59th for the rampant hosts, wrapping up its third victory of the season and comfortably its biggest.

Villa started the game just outside the relegation zone only because of goal difference but now the team has some breathing space.

Danks said he is prepared to lead Villa for as long as he is asked after a memorable first game in temporary charge.

“It has been a roller coaster of a few days but my full focus was just on today’s game,” he said. “For me, I have been asked to step forward and lead the team with a group of staff, we will keep doing that until we are told otherwise.

“We are in tomorrow morning, we will recover well, we will review today’s game, we will start getting ready for Newcastle and whenever anything changes it changes, but until that point we just keep thinking forwards and moving forwards.”

The Birmingham-born Danks, who was a first-team coach under Gerrard, said he hasn’t thought about getting the job on a full-time basis.

“I joined the club as a coach and to be part of a growth project, to help the club move forward,” he said.

“This club is steeped in tradition and history, it’s got a fantastic academy and we just want this club growing and moving. For me, there is a long-term goal in this football club and whatever role I play in that.”

Brentford manager Thomas Frank is one of the names to have been linked with the permanent job at Villa.

After his team’s defeat, he did not rule himself out of the running but said he has “unfinished business” at Brentford.

“There’s a lot of rumours out there. I realise this is a great club in many ways, but I have said many times before I am pleased in Brentford and I have unfinished business to do,” Frank said.

“It’s football. One thing is for sure, I have a job I am happy for. I love Brentford. That is what I am focusing on. Right now, I just lost 4-0, the only thing I feel is pain inside my body. All other rumours, one way or the other, I am not spending too much time on that.”

Kohli leads India to stunning T20 World Cup win over Pakistan Loop Jamaica

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Jamaica News Loop News

Virat Kohli produced an astonishing performance to lead India to a stunning final-ball triumph over arch-rival Pakistan in a dramatic Twenty20 World Cup opener on Sunday.

Arriving at the crease with India under pressure, Kohli delivered one of the finest innings played at the MCG to steer India to a four-wicket victory in the Group 2 Super 12 opener.

The thriller played in front of 90,293 fans was stark in contrast to a Group 1 match played earlier on Sunday in Hobart where Sri Lanka coasted to a nine-wicket win over Ireland.

Kohli set the tempo of his innings perfectly, batting conservatively early in partnership with Hardik Pandya before stepping up late as India reeled in Pakistan’s tally of 159-8.

Describing it as the finest T20 innings of his career, the India legend finished unbeaten on 82 from 53 balls but was stuck at the non-striker’s end in a surreal finish to the match.

When Mohammad Nawaz removed Pandya for 40 off 37 balls with the first ball of the final over, India still needed 16 runs for victory. But the Pakistan spinner then lost his nerve.

Kohli struck a six from a no-ball on the fourth ball of the over and Nawaz then bowled a wide. He then bowled Kohli, who had the benefit of a free hit courtesy of the wide.

Alert to the ball ricocheting from the stumps, the Indian batters ran three byes to reduce the target to two runs off two balls. But that left Kohli off strike.

Nawaz had Dinesh Karthik stumped with the second last ball, but then bowled another wide, leaving Ravichandran Ashwin needing only a single to secure victory for India.

“It’s a surreal atmosphere. I honestly have no words. I have no idea how that happened,” Kohli said.

After sending their rivals in, India placed Pakistan under significant pressure when removing star batter Mohammad Rizwan and captain Babar Azam in the first four overs.

Pakistan struggled to find rhythm in overcast conditions until a surge from Iftikhar Ahmed midway through their innings helped them to a competitive tally.

Ahmed made 51 from 34 balls, at one stage striking four sixes in six balls, with three of them coming from off-spinner Axar Patel. He was well supported by Shan Masood, who finished unbeaten on 52 from 42 balls.

India faltered early in their chase courtesy of a combination of brilliant bowling, poor shots and misjudged running.

After India fell to 31-4 when Axar Patel was judged run out in a contentious decision, Kohli and Pandya set about resurrecting their nation’s hopes.

The pair, who combined for a partnership of 113, worked the ball around the spacious MCG and brought up India’s 100 with five overs remaining. This left India requiring 60 from 30 balls.

India’s captain Rohit Sharma said that after losing early wickets, the key was trying to stay in the match for as long as possible. With Kohli at the crease, he still had belief.

“From the situation we were in, it has to be one of India’s best knocks, not just his best knock,” he said.

His Pakistan counterpart Azam was stunned after the loss but paid tribute to Kohli, the man of the match.Earlier, Sri Lanka secured victory with five overs to spare against Ireland in both teams’ Twenty20 World Cup Super 12 opener.

After Ireland had won the toss and chose to bat first in overcast and wintry conditions at Bellerive Oval, Sri Lanka’s bowlers made regular breakthroughs to restrict the Irish to 128-8 after its 20 overs.

Chasing 129 for victory never proved a difficult challenge for Sri Lanka, which chased down the below-par target with ease.

Kusal Mendis top scored with 68 off 43 balls, with five boundaries and three sixes, including hitting a six to win the match off the final ball of the 15th over.

Sri Lanka raced to 50 without loss at the end of their 6-over power play with Mendis and Dhananjaya de Silva removing any nervousness Sri Lanka may have had chasing a low target.

Spinner Gareth Delaney had Dhananjaya caught behind for 31 in the ninth over. But that was a brief respite as Charith Asalanka made a brisk 31 off 22 balls as part of a 70-run partnership with Mendis to close-out an impressive victory for Sri Lanka.

Paul Stirling (34) and Harry Tector (45) top scored for Ireland and were the only two batters to get some momentum in their innings as too many of their teammates played poor shots and gave their wickets away cheaply to prevent a more competitive total being reached.

Captain Andrew Balbirnie (one) and Locran Tucker (10), two of Ireland’s heroes in a famous win against two-time champions the West Indies on Friday to qualify for the Super 12 stage, were both bowled around their legs shuffling across the crease.

Ireland’s innings never really recovered from that slow start as spinners Maheesh Theekshana (2-19 from four overs) and Wanindu Hasaranga (2-25 from four overs) took two wickets apiece to keep Sri Lanka in control.

Theekshana bowled Lorcan Tucker inside the powerplay overs before returning late to remove George Dockrell and break a 47-run partnership between Dockrell and Harry Tector, who top scored with 45 from 42.

Both teams qualified for the Super 12 stage through a dramatic qualifying round that was played over six days.

Ireland crushed two-time defending champion the West Indies by nine wickets on Friday to clinch its spot in Group 1 of the second stage behind Zimbabwe.

Sri Lanka, which won its maiden Twenty20 World Cup in 2014, had a poor start to its qualifying round losing to Namibia, but responded with victories over the United Arab Emirates and the Netherlands to stay alive in the tournament.

Sri Lanka and Ireland are joined by Australia, New Zealand, England and Afghanistan in Group 1 for the second round. New Zealand thrashed defending champion Australia by 89 runs, and England eased past Afghanistan by five wickets on Saturday to commence the Super 12 stage.___By COURTNEY WALSH

UPP Condemns ABLP Staged Confrontation in St. Mary’s South

UPP Condemns ABLP Staged Confrontation in St. Mary’s South

The leadership of the United Progressive Party (UPP) condemns the acts of violence that occurred on Bolans Village Main Road on Saturday, during the St Mary’s South “Small Business Pull Up,” organized by the party.

The route for this UPP initiative had been approved by the police who also accompanied the caravan.

As the mobile gathering was nearing its close, an altercation occurred between two persons.

This confrontation appears to have been an orchestrated effort by ABLP operatives to provoke, intimidate and assault supporters of the UPP.

Since late August, the UPP has successfully staged 8 similar events in other constituencies to highlight and support small business owners, without incident.

At no time during the altercation did Honorable Samantha Marshall and her team attempt to defuse the tension. Instead MP Marshall was quick to sow seeds of division by defending her team, while making a statement that completely twists the truth.

The UPP takes pride in organizing peaceful events that engage and empower the people. The Party is vehemently opposed to any politically motivated violence, particularly ahead of the general elections.

The leadership of the UPP therefore calls for MP Marshall to act responsibly by condemning the disruptive ALP operatives who provoked the confrontation.

We encourage her to find meaningful opportunities to empower these young people to become more productive in uplifting their community.

“We believe that every Antiguan and Barbudan has a right to peacefully organize, march and support their political beliefs – but no one has the right to violently attack their political opponents,” said UPP Political Leader Harold Lovell.

“It is unfortunate that the small businesses in Bolans were denied the opportunity to participate in this initiative that has been effective in helping many small enterprises generate more sales, new customers and build community pride,” said Kelvin “Shugy” Simon, UPP Candidate for St. Mary’s South. “The UPP will continue to host the weekly “Small Business Pull Up,” in a peaceful and organized manner that is guaranteed by our Constitution.”

DLP’s Walters criticises PM Mottley’s cabinet reshuffle announcement Loop Barbados

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Barbados News

One Barbadian politician is of the view that the time and place of Prime Minister Mia Mottley’s announcement of a Cabinet reshuffle was not appropriate.

On Saturday, October 22, at the 83rd Annual Conference of the Barbados Labour Party, Prime Minister Mottley announced several changes to her Cabinet which will take effect Wednesday, October 26.

Democratic Labour Party’s Vice President Ryan Walters expressed his displeasure today, October 23, with a lengthy Facebook post, criticising the BLP-led administration .

“It surely is not the place to be making national Prime Ministerial announcements about a cabinet reshuffle. Such statements are made at a press conference called by the Prime Minister’s Office not to a political section of electorate,” asserted the DLP Vice President.

Referring to the controversial Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) survey, Walters questioned the reshuffle, as the country was plagued with other pressing issues. He suggested that the Ministry of Education, specifically Minister Kay McConney should have been included in the dismissal list.

“Any serious Cabinet reshuffle should include the Minister of Education. The masses have been calling for it. When the PM made the announcement was her mic muted when she said that Kay McConney was sacked from Cabinet? I am still here waiting to hear her name called,” said the DLP Vice President.

Walters contended that Prime Minister should take a leaf out of former Prime Minister Owen Arthur’s playbook and “fire non-performers”. He also raised questions about the number of reshuffles that have occurred during Mottley’s two terms in office and maintained that persons should be held accountable.

“The PM is now in the habit of reshuffling failure. Speaking of which, how is Kerrie Symmonds now on his third or fourth ministry? There have been so many reshuffles since the Bees came to office in 2018 I cannot keep track.”

“Are these reshuffles because of bad assigning on the PM’s part or is it that her group of ministers simply cannot perform? If the ministers are not performing, Mia needs to take a leaf out of Owen’s playbook and simply fire non-performers. Do not impose failures on other ministries. It is akin to musical chairs. But, this game cannot work when you are dealing with these monumental matters facing our country,” Walters said.

Also touching on the dismissal of Neil Rowe – his opponent for the St Michael North seat – as deputy speaker of the House of Assembly, Walters questioned with Prime Minister Mottley was attempting to pull wool over the public’s eyes.

“The most intriguing of all is the Deputy Speaker. Why is a new Deputy Speaker being nominated Tuesday? Why is this change being announced with a Cabinet reshuffle when the role is not a Cabinet role? It is a parliamentary role. Why is there a change to the Deputy Speaker? Is it to fire the current deputy speaker or to give the incoming one a job? That position hardly ever changes unless it is vacated by the occupant, which was the case in 2020 when Gline Clarke resigned to go Canada. We need to know why this change was made. Is the MP for St Michael North West a failure too in a job he hardly ever performs? If he isn’t a failure, why was he not named a Minister of State as was Corey Layne?

“Was this entire exercise, involving seven people, really just about one or two politicians who continue to be failures?” he questioned.

PM Motttley gives statement on MP Neil Rowe’s rape charge Loop Barbados

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Barbados News

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has given an official statement on the rape charges against Member of Parliament for St Michael North West, Neil Rowe.

The Prime Minister is urging the public to allow the process of justice to take place and refrain from attacking the parties involved.

“It has been brought to my attention that a member of the Barbados Labour Party’s parliamentary group has had a very serious accusation levelled against them and consistent with the provisions of the law, he has been charged and is set to appear in court tomorrow morning,” said Prime Minister Mottley at the 83rd Annual Conference of the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) held today at Queen’s Park.

She continued: “It is not our place to intervene in the process of justice, but rather to secure the integrity of the critical institutions that preserve the rights of the individual in this country, and to ensure law, order, and indeed good governance in Barbados. My brothers and sisters and comrades this cannot be easy for the persons involved, either of them, but as a responsible political party, we must acknowledge the rights of each of them”.

The leader of the BLP beseeched the public to refrain from rushing to judgement but to allow the judicial system to “run its course”.

“I would urge that as a mature people, we respect the privacy of all concerned and behave responsibly particularly as it relates to the predictable social media onslaught, that regrettably has already started against both persons. I have every confidence in the independence and the integrity of the Barbados Police Service. I have every confidence in the independence and the integrity of our judiciary. And I ask therefore, that we do not rush to judgment, but permit, a process, due process that has been around for many centuries to work, and to run its course,” she added.
