Parent stabbing of security guard in Jamaica ‘totally unacceptable’ Loop Barbados

Jamaica’s Education Minister Fayval Williams has described last Friday’s stabbing of a security guard at Herbert Morrison Technical High School in Montego Bay, St James, Jamaica, as “totally unacceptable and outrageous behaviour by a parent”.

Williams has condemned the action of the perpetrator.

In a statement today (September 12), the minister noted that it was reported that the security guard attempted to bar a parent from entering the compound on September 9, because he considered her deportment in violation of the school’s dress code.

The parent allegedly insisted on being allowed to enter the premises, and the ensuing argument escalated.

In a video that has gone viral on social media, two women can be seen attacking the security guard, with one using what is said to be a pair of scissors to repeatedly jab at him then blood appeared on his clothing.

“This kind of behaviour is to be condemned in the strongest possible terms. We cannot expect to set a good example to children by resorting to violence when we have disagreements.

Last Friday’s incident, as reported and captured on phone videos, suggests this attack took place in full view of students. This is outrageous and cannot be condoned,” Williams stated.

“Where parents or guardians are in disagreement with schools’ regulations, they should seek to have their concerns raised at Parent Teachers’ Association meetings and with the administration. We must set better examples for our children overall, and especially as we are calling on parents to ensure their children obey the school rules,” the minister added.

The woman alleged to have done the stabbing was reportedly prevented from entering the school to watch a football match after the security guard determined that the pair of shorts she was wearing was too short.

Fans are getting an early treat from Nicki Minaj as she released a 35-second teaser for her upcoming song featuring Yung Bleu, “Love In The Way.”

The track features the Trinidadian rapper rapping while Bleu croons in his signature style. Nicki Minaj is enjoying continued success on the heels of her “Super Freaky Girl (Queen Mix),” which is again on this week’s top 5 best-selling tracks. Minaj had previously asked if fans wanted to hear a snippet of the song, and she later released the teaser for the track called “Love in the Way.”

“CHECK OUT THE SNIPPET & PRESAVE NOW,” Minaj wrote, along with a series of flame emojis. “Dropping FRIDAY @_YungBleu.”

The cover art for the track was released the day prior, with Minaj showing off her trim figure while Yung Bleu stood next to her in a long duster and suit made of the same fabric. The tweet went viral with 26.5 K likes and thousands of replies and retweets. Meanwhile, U.K based artist Sam Tompkins shared with excitement that “Love in the Way” is a sample of one of his songs.

“NICKI MINAJ SPITTING OVER A SAMPLE OF MY SONG WHOLE ARE YOU CRAZY,” Tompkins said as he added the link to the sampled track, “Whole.”

Fans also reacted to the snippet. “OH SH** this sounds so good I can’t wait for it to be release,” one fan wrote. “Letssss freakinnnn gooooooo I waited for this for likeeee foreverrrrrr can’t wait to hear it,” another said. “YESSSSS!!! Rnb ONIKA is unmatchable. and with the visuals on top of that. Omgggggg,” another Barb wrote.

Yung Bleu, on the other hand, has been very modest in curtailing his excitement at collaborating with one of the world’s biggest artists. “Putting up 3-4 more the next 12 months watch this ! album time,” he wrote in one tweet.

The singer also co-signed a tweet from another fan who likened the song to a classic. “It’s a beautiful song, they type songs that’s gonna live forever,” Bleu wrote.

Eyewitness: Movin’…to high ground

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: INews Guyana

Some might’ve thought that Pres Ali’s “Silica City” announcement two years ago was just a gimmick. But it should now be clear that unlike Burnham – who talked about having a new city on higher ground in the then North West District – this president isn’t just full of ideas like the departed dictator. Ali isn’t a “talk man” like his predecessor, but a “do man”!! It appears that Pres Ali has long nurtured this dream – since 2013 when he was Minister of Housing, to be exact. Maybe that’s the reason he did his PhD dissertation at UWI on urban planning?? And now that he’s got the authority to make his dream a reality he’s going full steam ahead!! Silica City here we come!!!

Now, there’s many reasons why Ali’s locational choice is so appropriate. First of all, there’s the question of practicality: which investors and pioneers were going to move all the way to the now Region 1 to set up a new city?? Jim Jones II?? Hasn’t the Government been trying with Mabaruma for the longest while? Let’s face it – that idea wasn’t sustainable – like most of Burnham’s big ideas – and that’s why it never got off the ground – pun intended!! The time will come for Reg 1 to have its city – but not now!!

So what makes Silica City right – apart from its alliterative ease on the tongue!? Well, it’s far from the madding crowd (and stench!) of Georgetown, but being near CJIA, it’s actually as close as you can get to the international investment crowd we’re trying to attract into our country!! And with the Highway to Lethem soon to be completed, it’s closer to both Linden and that behemoth in our south – Brazil – to which we’ll be strengthening our trading links!! Silica City’s also gonna be closer to the Intermediate Savannahs where we’re diversifying our agricultural base away from sugar and rice!!

The President just reiterated the incentives that are available for “pioneers” as we begin to “bust open” our interior!! Now your Eyewitness feels we gotta speak frankly to those who’ll soon be hollering “discrimination!!” when Silica City’s off and running. Let them apply NOW for housing or business – or whatever – permits!! And if they don’t, too late shall be the cry!! Linden with its Opposition supporters are in the best position to take advantage of this opportunity – and the PNC should encourage and organise this initiative!!But your Eyewitness has a suggestion for Pres Ali. Why not move the Government’s administrative infrastructure to Silica City. That’s what Brazil did when they created Brasilia in the middle of the Amazon during the 1960s!!What can you lose but the power to be crippled by strikes??!!

…back to #1?

Your Eyewitness is from the generation that remembers when the Pegasus (the “Peg” to insiders, thank you!!) was the pride of the GT crowd!! Hanging out at poolside, wolfing down hors d’oeuvre as discreetly as possible – while quaffing some cold Banks with Sly and the Family Stones crooning in the background – was the height of cool!! Anyhow, time and tide wait for no man – and evidently no hotel!! The edifice, where Elizabeth II had slept (Is there a sign “Lizzie slept here” in the room??) fell on hard times.

But seems like the Pegasus is rising like the Phoenix from the ashes – and is about to regain bragging rights as “the best ole huh-tel in Guyana”!! Your Eyewitness just saw the announcement of a rather posh restaurant going up at the ground floor of the massive, black-rock modern that now complements the still distinctive, avant-garde polygonal structure that was the Peg. He can’t wait for the opening!!Can he recapture some of that ole time feelin’?!!

…on in Ireland

A clip of a stadium of Irish football fans singing “Lizzie in a box” to the tune of KC and the Sunshine Band’s hit song, “Give It Up” went viral upon hearing of the passing of Queen Elizabeth.
