Marlo Hampton, Kandi Burruss bury hatchet with KFC chicken? Loop Jamaica

Black Immigrant Daily News

Fans of the Bravo reality series Real Housewives of Atlanta may have been excited to see ‘the Jamaica trip’ span three episodes.

But, more specifically, fans of RHOA cast mates Marlo Hampton and Kandi Burruss, who enjoyed their friendship, may not have been pleased to see the rift between the two play out on TV.

That rift somehow started and ended – however briefly, in Jamaica.

On the last day in the tropics, Hampton and Burruss rekindled their relationship over a bucket of Jamaican KFC chicken.

Now, there’s a distinction, and Jamaicans will remind anyone willing to listen as many Jamaicans worship at the shrine of KFC.

Up until publishing time, Twitter users were debating whether the ‘$5 decrease’ or the announcement of a price drop was worth it or not. Ergo, the fried chicken business in Jamaica is thriving.

In her sidebar interview that aired on the show recently, Hampton said “Everyone says that KFC chicken is the bomb in Jamaica, compared to the states…the smell alone is just ooof”.

For many years, Jamaicans travelling to the US have made it a point of their travel duty to transport the ?ber-popular fried chicken, so it was no surprise that Hampton, a well-connected resident of Atlanta, learnt of this ‘non-tradition’ tradition.

Hampton ensured she bought a bucket of KFC chicken in Montego Bay before boarding her flight back home.

And, as she recounts in the video, her rift with castmate Kandi Burruss would soon end after the latter got a whiff of KFC chicken while checking her bags at the Donald Sangster International Airport.

The rift, as they (don’t) say, was history.

The trip to Jamaica was initiated by Jamaican-born Olympian Sanya Richards-Ross and hubby Aaron – who’d struck a deal with the interactive fitness and workout app: iFIT – and opted to film in Jamaica.

This, the 14th season of RHOA, was Ross’ first season as a cast member. This was tied into Ross’ storyline as a way for her to introduce herself to viewers.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta have collectively visited and recorded many episodes on The Rock, and have recorded in Montego Bay, Kingston, and Ocho Rios.

Goalkeepers shine as Everton hold Liverpool 0-0 in derby Loop Jamaica

Black Immigrant Daily News

LIVERPOOL, England (AP) — Liverpool were denied another injury-time winner when Mohamed Salah’s shot hit the post in the 95th minute as an entertaining Merseyside derby against Everton somehow ended in a 0-0 draw on Saturday.

Everton had earlier been denied a goal by VAR and a stellar save from Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson, while his counterpart Jordan Pickford also made a handful of good stops to keep the visitors at bay.

Liverpool netted a winner deep into injury time against Newcastle in midweek and nearly repeated the feat when Salah found room for a shot on the right edge of the area but his low effort slammed against the near post after brushing the fingertips of Pickford.

It was the third time that Liverpool hit the woodwork, with Everton also striking the post in the first half of a game that easily could have seen a handful of goals.

Everton thought they had gone ahead in the 69th when former Liverpool player Conor Coady was on hand to turn in a low cross-shot from Neal Maupay at the far post, sparking massive celebrations among the home fans at Goodison Park. But a VAR review showed Coady was offside, and the goal was disallowed.

With the hosts looking stronger toward the end, Dwight McNeil nearly netted the winner in the 85th when his shot was deflected off the back of a defender and looped toward the far post, but Alisson was at full stretch to push it over the bar.

Liverpool countered moments later, with halftime substitute Roberto Firmino forcing a low save from Pickford — the third time he was bested by the England goalkeeper.

For Liverpool, the draw is yet another setback in a stuttering start to the season that has seen Jurgen Klopp’s team drop points in four of the opening six games. For his counterpart Frank Lampard, the result — and performance — could boost his chances of staying in the job after a winless start to the campaign. It was Everton’s fourth straight draw.

The Merseyside derby is always among the most intense fixtures of the Premier League season and the start of the game was more feisty than free-flowing. But the teams combined to hit the woodwork three times in the first half.

Everton came close to scoring in the 33rd when Anthony Gordon shook off a defender to put the ball into the box, where Maupay’s shot was blocked by Virgil van Dijk and the ball fall to Tom Davies, who toe-poked it against the far post with the goal gaping.

Liverpool came even closer in the 44th, hitting the woodwork twice in quick succession.

Striker Darwin Nunez, back from a suspension, downed a ball on his chest on the right edge of the area and hit a fierce volley that Pickford palmed against the crossbar. Luis Diaz then collected the ball and cut in from the left and curled a shot against the far post.

During a period of end-to-end play midway through the second half, Pickford then had to make three saves in quick succession to keep the game scoreless.

He first steered away a low shot from Firmino and then pushed away a header from the Brazilian forward from the resulting corner. Moments later, he had to get down low again to stop a shot from Fabinho.

That also resulted in a corner, but now it was Everton’s turn to launch a quick counterattack, with Demarai Gray teeing up Maupay in the area, but the striker’s shot was blocked by Alisson.

It was to be the goalkeepers’ day at Goodison Park.

Autoridades reportan que piloto amenaza con estrellar avión en un Walmart de Mississippi

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Radio Isla TV

Scrap-iron dealers’ head warns of more protests

President of the TT Scrap Iron Dealers Association Allan Ferguson.

President of the TT Scrap Iron Dealers Association (TTSIDA) Allan Ferguson has issued a veiled threat about further disturbances if the government fails to meet and address its concerns.

He was spealking immediately after thanking the police for helping to ensure an incident-free motorcade on Friday,

The motorcade, held to protest the government’s temporary ban on scrap-iron export, started at the Caroni Bird Sanctuary and ended at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain, at around 3 pm.

Although a relatively small number of vehicles took part, it is believed to have contributed to increased traffic in and around the capital.

Ferguson briefly addressed participants and the media, and closed his comments with a stark but ambiguous warning.

“Keep gas in your vehicles,” he said. “Do not use out all your gas, because we coming soon, because Parliament opening just now.”

Newsday later asked Ferguson, the uncontested president of the association since 2011, to expound on his comments. He replied, “We plan to mobilise all of civil society. We will announce the plans in time to come.”

He said, however, that it will not be in the form of another motorcade.

In his address, Ferguson accused the government of making secret plans for the industry, which he said will ultimately benefit foreign companies and individuals.

“Our association, and I as president, I am trying to meet with the government to make this industry open back, and we are trying very hard to get that meeting with them.

“And I just want to ask the question: who is the person, who is the company in InvesTT that you all want to give this industry to?”

InvesTT is a state agency created to provide particularly foreign organisations seeking to invest in TT markets with expertise and services.

“Trinidad and Tobago, you ask the question, too; why it is they was doing all the studies in reference (to) how much material it have? Why they doing all that?

“They doing all that now, as we make this journey to open the industry, (to) give it to a company from foreign. Well, I’m telling them, forget about that.”

The motorcade is one of several protests put on by the TTSIDA, scrap-iron dealers and workers coming out of the government’s announcement last month of a ban on exports for six months, owing to an upsurge in the theft of copper and other valuable materials belonging to the State and private citizens.

Fiery protests were staged in Claxton Bay almost immediately after the ban was announced, followed more recently by an early-morning blockade on the northbound lane of the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway, resulting in standstill traffic.

US$20M oil and gas training centre opens at Lusignan

3t EnerMech Guyana Training Centre of Excellence located at Lusignan, ECD

Guyana’s first premier oil and gas training centre was officially opened on Friday, and according to Prime Minister Brigadier (ret’d) Mark Phillips, Guyanese can now benefit from an assortment of cutting-edge capacity-building courses without having to leave the country.

Located at Lusignan on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD), 3t EnerMech Guyana Training Centre of Excellence is a joint venture between two Guyanese companies – Orinduik Development Incorporated and Windsor Technologies – and US-based 3t EnerMech, which is a strategic alliance between 3t Energy Group and EnerMech.

This Training Centre of Excellence combines expert instruction in-classroom training facilities, blended learning software and technology, and fully immersive simulators for high-hazard activity learning to empower and provide Guyanese with key skills and training certifications that are required to work in the offshore environment.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Phillips pointed out that this ground-breaking facility would bring immense benefits to Guyanese. He noted that since the discovery of oil offshore, Guyana has undergone transformational changes to create a conducive environment for the development of the petroleum sector, and he said the abundant and life-changing opportunities that the industry offers must not bypass Guyanese.

Prime Minister Brig (ret’d) Mark Phillips, Cabinet Ministers and other officials join representatives from 3t EnerMech Guyana Training Centre of Excellence at the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday

“A crucial factor to the success of our nation lies in our people. We must ensure that we utilise the benefits of the oil and gas sector to build a bright future for this generation, the next generation of Guyanese, and beyond. To do that, we must undertake a culture of ownership, a culture where our local content – our people – can thrive, and that includes within the workplace itself,” Phillips stated.

According to the Prime Minister, the Government has been continuously engaging in the training of the local workforce to occupy important positions in the oil and gas sector and contribute to the building of this sector, and ultimately the development of Guyana.

To this end, he posited that the establishment of this training facility strengthens a PPP manifesto promise to train thousands of Guyanese at every level to create a national corps of managers and workforce to chart the future direction and effectively manage all the sectors in the country.

“With you being the first entity with approval to deliver Offshore Petroleum Industry Training Organisation-accredited training to the oil and gas sector in Guyana, our human resources are now strengthened at a global standard to actively and competently participate in the building of this new and abundant area of our country.

“With an industry that requires high skills and knowledge, it is reassuring to know that these capacities can be imparted to our people without having to leave their home soil,” the PM noted.

Previously, Guyanese would have had to travel to the United States, the United Kingdom, or even Trinidad and Tobago to undergo training and secure the necessary certification to work in the oil and gas sector here. These include Offshore Petroleum Industry Training Organisation (OPITO) and Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) accreditations.

According to Phillips, these certifications will place Guyanese among the top qualified players in the global oil and gas industry, thus further adding to Guyana’s growing potential as a powerhouse in the sector.

A section of 3t EnerMech Guyana Training Centre of Excellence

While it has now officially opened, 3t EnerMech Guyana Training Centre of Excellence has been operating in Guyana over the past three years, and offering over 500 courses specifically designed to upscale the oil and gas sector.

EnerMech’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Christian Brown, explained that this facility is the first regional ECITB-accredited centre, and is also Guyana’s first OPITO-approved facility.

“The doors are wide open now to do all the training we need, not only for Guyana, but for the region here, within Georgetown. It’s a pivotal time, because now, with this centre, we can train Guyanese people in the roles across many skills, many competencies, to support all of the investments that are going within our oil and gas sector,” Brown posited.

In addition to the current skills and competency training being offered, the centre would be adding Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET), and Firefighting and Emergency Response Training as well to its accreditation services.

The EnerMech CEO outlined that more capital, resources and training would be added to make sure the local oil and gas industry’s needs are met, while simultaneously developing the Guyanese talent pool and backing the country with a qualified workforce.

Meanwhile, Natural Resources Minister Vickram Bharrat pointed out that Guyana is blessed with human resources, and underscored the need to develop this pool to fully realise local content.“We are never going to achieve true local content if we don’t develop our human capital, our local capacity at the Private Sector level, so that Guyanese can benefit from the oil and gas sector too. Because that is the cry that resonates throughout the entire country as we travel around, and rightly so,” he stated.

The Minister added, “Today is a true example of local content. Today is a true example of how Guyanese are starting to establish themselves in the oil and gas sector along with international partners, because we need the expertise, we need the investments, and we need the technology. And that is why we have always, as a Government, encouraged our local businesses, our local entrepreneurs, to join in partnership in joint ventures and consortiums, and to work with foreign investors to build facilities as this one.”

In addition to opening on Friday, 3t EnerMech Guyana Training Centre of Excellence also held the graduation of its first group of students. The 18 students, who took the courses through the Guyana Government’s GOAL initiative, graduated with the ECITB Level 2 certificate. One-third of those graduates are females.

PM Phillips charged the group of young Guyanese to put their skills to use.“I congratulate the first cohort of participants who underwent training at this facility. May you take your skills and put them to their fullest use as you proceed in your daily tasks of helping to build a better Guyana.”
