Bounty Killer Sues British Publisher To Recover JM$60 Million In Royalties

Dancehall artiste Bounty Killer is suing a British publisher in the High Court of Justice in London, United Kingdom, for millions of dollars the publisher collected on behalf of the artist in the UK from 2002 to 2021.

The dancehall legend is suing Othman Mukhlis, and his company Jamdown Limited and a third company owned by Mukhlis named Abood Music Limited, which he appointed to collect royalties on behalf of the deejay. According to the artist’s lawsuit, around 2001, Mukhlis contacted Bounty Killer, whose real name is Rodney Price, to collect agreed-upon royalties on his behalf in exchange for a percentage of the royalties.

The lawsuit claims that Mukhlis falsely misrepresented Bounty Killer and convinced him that it would be better if he were to collect the artist’s publishing royalties in the UK as withholding tax would take a significant sum- 30 percent of the monies he earns.

This information is implied to have induced Bounty into signing the agreement for Mukhlis to collect public performance royalties from the Phonographic Performance Limited (PPS) and the Performing Performing Rights Society (PRS) in exchange for a 15% collection fee of the overall sums collected.

However, Bounty Killer claims that Mukhlis’ companies Jamdown and Abood, over the period, collected more than £325,000 (J$60 million) in unpaid royalties from PPS and PRS.

That sum might also be more as Mukhlis also collected the publisher’s share of royalties on behalf of the King of Kingston artist.

According to the lawsuit, Mukhlis also collected the publisher’s share of royalties in which he would retain 10% of overall sums as agreed by Bounty Killer. Mukhlis registered Abood as the publisher for Mr. Price with PRS and later outsourced the collection with Perfect Songs Limited, but there has not been any account of monies for this set of royalties.

“Pending further investigations and the provision of further information, Mr Price does not know how much Abood and/or PSL, acting on behalf of Abood, have collected from PRS in respect of the publisher’s share of works written and/or co-written by Mr Price which are registered with PRS.”

The artiste also claims that Mukhlis has fraudulently collected the label share of the royalties in respect of the masters. The masters are not owned by Bounty Killer, and the artist has not named the owner.

“Further and additionally, in or around late 2001 Mr Mukhlis also registered Abood with PPL to collect the label share in respect of the master recordings of works performed by Mr Price. Mr Price does not own those rights so could not authorise Mr Mukhlis or Abood to collect them whether on his behalf or at all. At some point thereafter, Abood also outsourced collection of the label share to PSL,” the lawsuit said.

It’s unclear who owns the masters to Bounty’s songs and whether legal action is being taken by the label against Mukhlis in respect of the label’s share of master royalties.

Bounty Killer’s lawsuit says that in 2020, Mukhlis “acknowledged that sums were due to Mr Price,” but only transferred him the sum of £8,477.

As for what Bounty Killer is seeking from the court, the artiste claims royalties owed since 2002 and interest over the last 20 years. The artist has also asked the court to declare that all sums collected by Mr. Mukhlis, Jamdown, and/or Abood belong to him and are held in trust for him by Mr. Mukhlis, Jamdown, and/or Abood.

Bounty Killer is also seeking to rescind the contract he has with Mukhlis and his companies due to the fraudulent or negligent misrepresentation made by Mukhlis pertaining to the withholding tax.

The lawsuit was filed on June 14, 2022.

The artist has not publicly spoken about the lawsuit, but it is reported that his former manager had discovered the anomalies in his royalties.

Polio detected in NYC’s sewage, suggesting virus circulating Loop Barbados

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Barbados News

NEW YORK (AP) — The polio virus has been found in New York City’s wastewater in another sign that the disease, which hadn’t been seen in the US in a decade, is quietly spreading among unvaccinated people, health officials said Friday.

The presence of the poliovirus in the city’s wastewater suggests likely local circulation of the virus, the city and New York state health departments said.

State Health Commissioner Dr Mary T. Bassett said the detection of poliovirus in wastewater samples in New York City is alarming but not surprising.

“The risk to New Yorkers is real but the defense is so simple — get vaccinated against polio,” New York City Health Commissioner Dr. Ashwin Vasan said in a statement. “With polio circulating in our communities there is simply nothing more essential than vaccinating our children to protect them from this virus, and if you’re an unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated adult, please choose now to get the vaccine. Polio is entirely preventable and its reappearance should be a call to action for all of us.”

The announcement comes shortly after British health authorities reported finding evidence the virus has spread in London but found no cases in people. Children ages 1-9 in London were made eligible for booster doses of a polio vaccine Wednesday.

In New York, one person suffered paralysis weeks ago because of a polio infection in Rockland County, north of the city. Wastewater samples collected in June in both Rockland and adjacent Orange County were found to contain the virus.

Most people infected with polio have no symptoms but can still give the virus to others for days or weeks. Vaccination offers strong protection and authorities urged people who haven’t gotten the shots to seek one immediately.

Based on past outbreaks, it is possible that hundreds of people in the state have gotten polio and don’t know it, officials said.

Polio was once one of the nation’s most feared diseases, with annual outbreaks causing thousands of cases of paralysis. The disease mostly affects children.

Vaccines became available starting in 1955, and a national vaccination campaign cut the annual number of US cases to less than 100 in the 1960s and fewer than 10 in the 1970s, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

A small percentage of people who polio suffer paralysis. The disease is fatal for between 5-10% of those paralyzed.

All schoolchildren in New York are required to have a polio vaccine, but Rockland and Orange counties are both known as centers of vaccine resistance.

Rihanna Slays Thigh High Boots & Mini Skirt Out With A$AP Rocky In NYC

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Rihanna looked like a billion dollars last night while out on a date with her baby daddy A$AP Rocky in New York City.

A$AP Rocky and Rihanna do not appear bothered at all in light of the ongoing legal challenges Rocky is facing, particularly a lawsuit by A$AP Relli, a former member of A$AP Mob. Relli is suing Rocky for allegedly shooting him over a disagreement last year. Rocky is also facing criminal charges following his arrest before the birth of his son with Rihanna.

On the other hand, the couple is living their best lives one day at a time as they are seen out and about in New York City. The pair were spotted on Friday night, with Rihanna grabbing the attention as she greeted fans in New York City. The couple was reportedly at a late-night meeting together.

Rihanna stunned in a black denim mini skirt, thigh-high black boots, and a white RZA t-shirt. The singer had on a long sleek black wig that was tied into a ponytail, and her make-up was fresh and dewy with a beautiful red lipstick.

The couple was also seen out and about on Thursday at Emilio’s Ballato. Rocky was seen with a large joint on the corner of his mouth while carrying a bottle of Mercer & Prince booze from his own brand.

Rihanna and Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, welcomed a son in May. The couple has not shared their son’s name nor a glimpse of the baby boy.

In the meantime, there are new reports that both have been adjusting well to their new roles as parents. Both Rihanna and Rocky have Bajan heritage, although their primary residence is in the United States.

In the meantime, Rocky nor his legal team have addressed the criminal or civil case against him.

New-look Barcelona held 0-0 by Rayo in Lewandowski’s debut Loop Jamaica

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Jamaica News Loop News

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Robert Lewandowski endured a frustrating debut for Barcelona on Saturday when Rayo Vallecano held on for a 0-0 draw at Camp Nou in their Spanish league opener.

Lewandowski and his new teammates were kept well in check by Rayo, which also proved dangerous on the break and were only stopped from scoring by the goalkeeping of Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

More than 81,000 fans turned out to see the new-look Barcelona that club president Joan Laporta built after mortgaging the future of the club to get some much-needed cash to sign Lewandowski and four other new players.

But the biggest applause Lewandowski heard from the crowd was to show their appreciation for his hustle on defense late in the match with Barcelona stymied in attack. The closest the former Bayern Munich star went to scoring was a header flicked well over the bar in the first half.

Barcelona finished with 10 men after Sergio Busquets got a second booking in stoppage time when he swung his arm into the face of Rayo substitute Radamel Falcao. Falcao then had what looked to be a winner waived away for offside as Rayo went close to claiming a third straight win over Barcelona after they stunned the Catalan club twice last season.

Lewandowski, winger Raphinha and defender Andreas Christensen, who also joined Barcelona this summer, all made Xavi Hern?ndez’s starting 11. The three players along with fellow newcomer Franck Kessi? and the recently re-signed Ousmane Demb?l? and Sergi Roberto were only declared eligible to play by the Spanish league on Friday after Barcelona sold yet another stake in their in-house production company to improve its troubled financial balance.

The delicate state of Barcelona’s finances meant that they were unable to register Jules Kound?, their top defensive signing, in time for the season opener.

Bennett sur un deuxième sacre d’affilée ?

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Martinique FranceAntilles

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Guadeloupe FranceAntilles
