GEORGETOWN, Guyana (AP) — Bangladesh won the One-Day International (ODI) series from the West Indies on Wednesday, bouncing back from losing the test and Twenty20 series.

Bangladesh made West Indies bat first and bowled out the home side for 108 in 35 overs. The Bangladeshis took less than 21 overs to reach the target, for the loss of one wicket.

The visitors have won the two ODIs by six and nine wickets for a fifth successive bilateral series win.

The last ODI and tour match is on Saturday at the same Providence Stadium and Bangladesh will be favoured to beat West Indies an 11th straight time since late 2018.

West Indies couldn’t handle spin again, as Nasum Ahmed took his first ODI wickets to start the West Indies collapse and Mehidy Hasan Miraz finished the rout with four for 29.

The home side rode some early luck when openers Kyle Mayers survived a messed-up stumping chance off Mehidy, and Shai Hope overturned an lbw decision to Nasum. But the batters didn’t last much longer.

Mayers was bowled by Mosaddek Hossain trying to defend on the front foot. Then Shamarh Brooks was bowled by Nasum for his first ODI wicket in his second match.

Mosaddek caught Hope who mishit an attempted slog sweep, and in the same over Nasum got captain Nicholas Pooran dragging on. West Indies was 45 for four and Nasum had three for nine from six overs, three of them maidens.

Mosaddek bowled out his 10 overs by the 25th over. He had one for 37, but the pressure he and Nasum built led to West Indies taking more frustrated swings.

Rovman Powell was out for 13 trying to flick medium-pacer Shoriful Islam, and Brandon King charged and missed Mehidy to be bowled on 11.

Akeal Hosein was too slow coming from the non-striker’s end and run out on two and West Indies were 72 for seven.

Nasum was brought back for his last two overs and finished with three for 19 off 10, earning the man of the match.

As soon as he left, Romario Shepherd was bowled by Mehidy on four and Alzarri Joseph edged Mehidy behind and West Indies were 86 for nine.

Mehidy claimed Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai to leave tailender Keemo Paul stranded on 25 not out.

Moti-Kanhai got the wicket of Najmul Hossain Shanto but fellow opener Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das made no drama of the chase. Tamim finished the game with his seventh boundary to be 50 not out off 62 balls for his 53rd ODI fifty. Liton was 32 not out off 27 with six boundaries.

The Antigua and Barbuda Reparations Support Commission joins with the rest of the Caribbean in celebrating Emancipation 2022 under the theme ‘Celebrating African Royalty and Heritage from July 29 to August 12.

Activities for this year’s celebration will include the hosting of His Royal Majesty King Bhungane(bonganay) 3rd and his wife of the Embo Kingdom of South Africa, the 14th annual Watchnight Gathering, African Dress Day, Exhibition and televised Lectures. 

According to Anthony ‘Mamba’ Liverpool, Vice Chair of the ABRSC, “the activities will begin on July 29th with the African Dress Day, a call for all nationals and residents to don their African dashikis and cultural wear, in a show of pride for our African heritage and to honour the Ancestors who struggled to ensure our freedom as a nation.”

As we commemorate the 188 years since our emancipation from chattel slavery in 1834, the people of the Caribbean have made great strides in our efforts to build and nurture a Caribbean society that has produced world champions and achievers in athletics, cricket, literature, economics and health,” he said.

The 14th Annual Watchnight Gathering will be held on 31st July at the Botanical Gardens featuring cultural performances from King Zachary, Shiva Dance Company, Ras Freeman Nyabinghi Drummers, reggae singer Zambai, Kadeem Joseph and many more…

The Emancipation celebrations continue with the hosting of the annual Emancipation Day Church Service at the Green Bay Moravian Church on Monday 1st August and the broadcasting of two special lectures on August 5th and 12th, 2022 on ABS.

Two cultural organizations which have been at the vanguard of cultural development and preservation, the Monsignor Patrick Anthony Folk Research Centre(FRC) and the Silver Shadow Dance Academy, have been the victims of two attempted break-ins within the span of two weeks.

The two organizations which are housed in the Intramacs building, formerly home of the Monroe College, are engaged in documentation, research education and training.

They do not keep cash on their premises.

The FRC is presently in the process of rebuilding its archives following the fire which destroyed its premises and archival holdings at Mount Pleasant, in order to ensure that present and future generations fully understand and appreciate the tremendous richness and value of our culture.

The management of the FRC and the Silver Shadow Dance Academy denounce the behavior of the individuals behind these attempted break-ins and is appealing to the members of public to assist in the collective safeguarding of their places of operations and the valuable archives and records which they keep for use by the public.

Our wealth is rooted in our people, research and documentation, which we freely share with all without discrimination. We would like to do so for present and future generations.

Police are investigating three separate wounding incidents which left all the victims seeking medical care at the hospital.

Reports say that a 38-year-old Liberta man was injured by a fellow villager, who grabbed his money while they were at a local supermarket.

Reportedly, the man went to Spencer’s Supermarket with $52 in hand at around mid-morning on July 10. While there, the alleged perpetrator pulled the cash away and the victim took it back from him.

The alleged offender then went into a bag he was holding, pulled out a cutlass, and reportedly used it to inflict a wound to the victim’s head.

The man had to be treated at the hospital; and although his injuries were not life threatening, he was kept for observation.

The attacker was taken into police custody after the incident.

In another instance, a man of no fixed place of abode, but who frequents Percival’s Service Station, was punched in the face during an altercation on the premises.

Reportedly the victim was speaking to a driver who, at the time, was filling his vehicle’s tank with petrol.

The victim then went to the front passenger door, from which a man allegedly exited the vehicle and struck him in the face with his fist.

As a result, the victim reportedly fell to the ground, hit his head, and sustained a wound to the back of his head.

The Emergency Medical Service was summoned to the scene and transported the man to the hospital, where he was treated for his injury.

This offence reportedly occurred on the night of July 9.

Meanwhile, a 92-year-old Tyrells man is said to have been injured by his 24-year-old mentally challenged great-grandson in a dispute over a phone call.

Reports are that on July 8, at about 8:30 a.m., the elderly man was at home when his great-grandson asked to use the senior citizen’s cell phone to make a call.

The older man refused, allegedly angering the young man, who reportedly armed himself with a stone, which he used to inflict a wound to the elderly man’s head.

The senior citizen was taken to the Liberta Health Centre, where nurses assessed the wound; but he was later transported to the hospital by the EMS.
