Les pompiers appelés sur plusieurs accidents • DR
Les pompiers ont été alertés d’un accident de la circulation vers 16 heures à Vieux-Habitants. Il a fait trois victimes.
A 15h59 les secours ont été appelés pour un accident de la circulation qui a eu lieu route de Marigot, à Vieux-Habitants. C’est un deux-roues contre un véhicule léger. L’accident a fait trois victimes : 1 blessé grave, 1 blessé léger, 1 personne sortie indemne.
Le conducteur du 2 roues, un homme de 26 ans a été médicalisé et héliporté par DRAGON 971, au CHUG. De même que la conductrice de la voiture et le passager du deux-roues.
Dimanche peu avant 7 heures, les secours sont appelés pour une blessure par balles boulevard Légitimus à Pointe-à-Pitre. On dénombre un blessé grave, un homme de 47 ans, transporté au CHUG.

La reprise du championnat de volley-ball s’est enfin opérée après plus de deux ans sans compétition en salle. Samedi soir, au Palais des sports Laura Flessel de Petit-Bourg, l’Arsenal a remporté en trois sets son premier match de la saison contre une équipe d’IUFM sport en manque de repères.
Il aura fallu attendre le 25e point dans le
premier set pour que les spectateurs puissent voir un point
construit avec de beaux échanges. L’Arsenal mène alors 15 à 9 et va
remporter un premier set accroché mais pas brillant. Et pour cause,
le volley-ball faisait son retour dans les salles de Guadeloupe
après deux ans sans championnat à cause de la crise sanitaire.
Contrairement aux autres sports collectifs du département, le
volley-ball avait fait le choix de ne pas redémarrer sous
contrainte de pass sanitaire. Par conséquent, les joueurs n’ont eu
que très peu

In light of the recent increase in acts of violence against police officers across the Caribbean region, the Caribbean Federation of Police Welfare Associations (CFPWA) has issued a statement calling for harsher punishments for those who attack or kill officers. In that statement, the CFPWA expressed “great disappointment” in the fact that very few have publicly condemned those recent acts of violence, which include the killing of two police officers, the bombing of one officer’s vehicle, and the shooting of another officer.
“The CFPWA wants to condemn these attacks and killings of our police officers across the region and calls for harsher penalties to be applied to those who attack police officers,” the press release, issued on Tuesday, said.
The CFPWA also went a step further and called for those countries that have the death penalty instated to be apply it to anyone found guilty of killing a police officer.
“Criminals must understand that their actions have consequences. It must be made unequivocally clear to criminals that when you take the life of an agent of the state, you have given up your right to life when you are found guilty in a court of law,” the release also stated.
The Association is claiming that acts of violence against police officers have been normalized across the region rather than being viewed as “an attack on the state.” To remedy this, they are now urging legislators across the region to make necessary amendments to reflect harsher penalties for people who attack agents of the state.
Just recently, here at home, the shooting of Police Constable Lorraine Arzu, left many of her friends and family reeling. Arzu succumbed to her injuries on Sunday, October 16, after spending four days on life support. There have been no recent updates on the police investigation into PC Arzu’s murder.

Preparations began early in the week for the landfall of Hurricane Lisa in the country, with the designation of hurricane shelters (many of which were schools in the community) being one of the key steps taken by the government and various emergency organizations.
The Ministry of Education then announced that as a result of the use of many school buildings as shelters, there would be no classes, starting Tuesday of this week, until an appropriate time, to be determined by the Ministry.
At a press conference held by the Prime Minister on Thursday, however, Hon. Francis Fonseca, Minister of Education, announced that schools will be reopening on Monday, November 7. As a result, arrangements have been made with NEMO to provide persons sheltering at the schools an alternate shelter so that classes can resume on Monday.
“As you know, today the schools are used as hurricane shelters. So, we have asked NEMO that those schools that are used as hurricane shelters, between now and Monday that they make every effort to have those schools, all the people in those shelters, taken elsewhere, and all the adequate arrangements made for them. We are [committed] to having schools, all schools reopened on Monday, November 7th, and so, we are asking between now and Monday that those teachers, especially where your schools are used as shelters, check on the condition of your schools and make sure that it is prepared and ready for classes on Monday,” he said.

The first week of November was to have started with a number of planned activities for Belize’s Garifuna community, but due to the passage of Hurricane Lisa, a rare November storm, the events, organized by the National Garifuna Council, had to be postponed.
Those events included the Garifuna Expo, which was scheduled for Friday, November 4, as well as the Solidarity Mass, Miss Garifuna National Pageant, and the Miss Garifuna After Party, which were all scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 5.
The Council made the decision to postpone the events due to the initial forecast that the center of Hurricane Lisa would have made landfall near Dangriga Town.
“All these events are scheduled to take place in Dangriga, which is where Hurricane Lisa is expected to make landfall. As such, it will not be feasible to hold our planned events. Our priority at this time is to ensure preparedness and safety,” stated the Council on Tuesday.
And while the storm made landfall just ten miles south of Belize City, its effects were felt in areas across the country.
The National Garifuna Council has since announced that the Miss Garifuna National Pageant will be taking place on Friday, November 11, at 6:00 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Parish Hall.

This week’s featured development as Newsmaker of the Week just ended is the uncertainty surrounding the health of dancehall queen Spice, though her booking agent has dismissed as rumours, assertions that she suffered a heart attack.
The questions on the lips of many this week was simple, “Where is Spice?”
Rumours were peddled across social media on Wednesday that the ‘So Mi Like It’ artiste had developed complications during a cosmetic medical procedure at an undisclosed medical facility in the Dominican Republic.
By Saturday, sources indicated that the popular entertainer was “awake” after a health scare, days after persons close to her denied that she had a heart attack or was in a coma.
Even minister Marion Hall, the dancehall artiste-turned-Christian formerly known as Lady Saw and the former queen of dancehall, who, interestingly, has been at odds with Spice, urged her followers to pray for the current queen of dancehall during a livestream on Wednesday.
“God of Glory, I place Grace Hamilton at your feet,” Hall said during her prayer.
Continuing, she said: “We had a lot of stuff – some accusations of me doing evil. But God, today I understand this word you have given me. I am not bitter, God.
“You took away my bitterness…Yes, there are times I cry over accusations… but I pray that you will not just revive her, but also strengthen her.”
In late January, Spice and Hall had a clash of sorts after the latter rapped the former and other dancehall stars on their actions, lyrics and styles, and declared that they were all in a “race to hell”.

The former dancehall queen, during one of her sermons in late January, described Spice as being “played out”, among other things.
Spice would respond in an expletive-laden response on video, and said she and Hall had been friends for 10 years, but that they had a falling out because of Hall being “bad mind”.
Hall said during her prayer for Spice on Wednesday morning, that she has placed those things that Spice said about her (Hall) behind her.
“It doesn’t matter what she did to me… you know, God, I have never done evil to her. Never. I had loved her with a pure, loving heart. I was there for her, God. You be there for her now, Lord. Bring her back out of the darkness into your light, God,” said Hall.
In the whole mix, on Wednesday afternoon, Spice’s booking agent, Ray Alexander, responded to the rumours that were circulating about the artiste’s health.
“She didn’t suffer a heart attack and she is not in a coma,” Alexander said on Wednesday evening.
But amid him insisting that the comments were rumours, it should be noted that it would not be Spice’s first time ‘under the knife’, as she had cosmetic surgery in 2020. In November of that year, she shared a photo of her “new designer body” to her Instagram page.
Cosmetic surgery enhances appearance for non-medical reasons, addressing physical features that can bring a person closer to their ideal body image.
The entertainer — whose given name is Grace Hamilton — is known for a slew of hit songs, such as ‘Send It Up’, ‘Sheet’, ‘Indicator’, ‘Genie’, ‘Fight Over Man’, and ‘Romping Shop’ featuring Vybz Kartel.
Just over two weeks ago, in a post to her Instagram page, the recording artiste said she would be taking a break from social media. Since sharing that on October 17, no new posts have been made to her Instagram account.
With no word from Spice herself, and no further update regarding her condition from those in her circle, the rumours relative to her health continued to circulate unabated up to Saturday morning when sources close to the entertainer said she was reportedly “alert”, “awake” and “getting stronger”.
Still, her fans across social media continue to pray for her, while others have chastised those who continue to peddle speculations about the entertainer.
“Mi artiste, whatever the circumstances may be, you will be okay. No matter the bad mouth, God is in control,” wrote Facebook user, RacFirstlady.
To Spice’s booking agent, social media user Shan LaTouche said: “If she’s okay, tell her to come public so that her fans can have an idea of what’s going on with her. This is not our bestie; she would’ve said something to us. I’m just praying for her full recovery in Jesus name.”
Lilean Gibson wrote: “Whether something happened or not, we her fans and a lot of people are concerned about her health and wellbeing.
“I pray that whatever it is, God heal her completely from it, and may God remember her children and family.”
Amid the prayers and good wishes, there were some sceptical persons about the current absence of Spice from the social media space, and her medical status.
“When is the new song coming because anytime Spice name call, it always some kind of publicity stunt for an upcoming project,” commented Tashauna Green, a Facebook user.
“I just hope this situation is not a stunt, and Spice is good, because she would lose a fan right here,” Keri Sweetness Bliss indicated.
Opined Thristan Pringle: “These people hiding something. Knowing Grace (Spice), she would have gone live already”.
Those spreading the heart attack and coma narrative about the entertainer were not spared the wrath of some of her fans.
“This is why Gracie (Spice) leave social media, because people won’t leave her alone or rest her name in a bad ways. I hope she sues everybody spreading fake news about her,” said one Instagram user, weeddonja.
Said _.jada.a: “All when the lady take a break off the internet uno cah rest her name.”
Drew_thebesthall shared: “The lady took a break from social media and imagine unuh deh pon her name a spread things say she get heart attack.
“Just leave the lady man! She needs to sue who a spread these lies man. When she ready she post back on Insta (Instagram),” declared the Instagram user.
Amid it all, several social media users were thankful for the news on Saturday that the dancehall queen was well following the uncertainty which had dampened her fan base locally and internationally.
Facebook user, Dollz Up Queen, posted: “I cried so hard last night (Friday).
“I knew Spice as a child, love (her) and still do. That’s my favourite artiste in Jamaica,” she said.
Colneitha Henriques said: “All now no one don’t really don’t know the real story. It’s all hearsay… I’m just waiting to hear what (Spice) will say whenever she’s ready to talk.”
In summer, Spice released her album ‘Emancipated’, which debuted at No 7 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart.
Her debut album ’10’ was nominated for Best Reggae Album last year.
In recent years, Spice has expanded her brand beyond the confines of dancehall, co-starring in the VH1 reality series Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta, and championing her own clothing line, Graci Noir.

Mohamed Salah struck twice to fire Liverpool to a 2-1 win at Tottenham in the English Premier League on Sunday.
Jurgen Klopp’s team had not won away from home in the league all season and had to hold on in the face of a second-half fightback from Spurs with Harry Kane halving the deficit.
The Liverpool manager could not hide his relief at the final whistle, celebrating in front of the travelling fans.
“We just kept fighting, it was a big passion,” Klopp told Sky Sports. “In the first half we were the better side and scored two wonderful goals. It’s a long time ago since we won away in the Premier League so it was relief at the end.
“You need to learn winning again and that’s how it starts, with massive resistance. It was clear they would come back but we came through it and it’s all good.”
Salah put Liverpool in front after 11 minutes when Darwin Nunez controlled Andy Robertson’s pass and teed up his strike partner. Salah swivelled and fired into the bottom corner to beat Hugo Lloris.
Last season’s joint Golden Boot winner doubled his and Liverpool’s tally in the 40th minute. Eric Dier mistimed his header from Alisson Becker’s clearance and Salah ran through on goal to lob Lloris.
Kane fired Tottenham back into the game in the 70th when finishing from a tight angle to set up the chance of a comeback.
But despite intense pressure in the final stages, Liverpool held on to take all three points and move up to eighth. Tottenham is fourth, seven points ahead of Liverpool.
Salah has now scored nine goals in his last eight games in all competitions.
“We did well to get the three points,” Salah told Sky Sports. “It is always a tough opponent. I’m focused on making a difference and managed to do so today.”

Better catch the moon’s disappearing act Tuesday — there won’t be another like it for three years.
The total lunar eclipse will be visible throughout North America in the predawn hours — the farther west, the better — and across Asia, Australia and the rest of the Pacific after sunset. As an extra treat, Uranus will be visible just a finger’s width above the moon, resembling a bright star.
Totality will last nearly 1 1/2 hours — from 5:16am to 6:41am EST — as Earth passes directly between the moon and sun.
Known as a blood moon, it will appear a reddish-orange from the light of Earth’s sunsets and sunrises. At the peak of the eclipse, the moon will be 242740 miles (390,653 kilometres) away, according to NASA scientists.
Binoculars and telescopes will enhance viewing, provided the skies are clear.
South America will get a glimpse of Tuesday’s lunar eclipse, weather permitting. Striking out altogether, Africa, the Middle East and most of Europe will have to wait until 2025.
Among those providing a livestream of Tuesday’s lunar extravaganza: Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles and the Italian-based Virtual Telescope Project.
It’s the second total lunar eclipse this year; the first was in May. The next one won’t be until 2025. Plenty of partial lunar eclipses will be available in the meantime.___By MARCIA DUNN

The Ministry of Education, Sustainable Development, Innovation, Science, Technology and Vocational Training wishes to inform parents and guardians that based on initial assessments following heavy rains on Sunday November 6th, 2022, the Corinth Secondary and the Dame Pearlette Louisy Primary Schools will remain closed until further notice.
