SOUTHAMPTON, England (AP) — Manchester United’s stand-in captain Bruno Fernandes made it back-to-back wins for Erik ten Hag’s team by scoring the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday.

Wearing the captain’s armband in place of the still-benched Harry Maguire, Fernandes steered in a cross from Diogo Dalot in the 55th minute as United followed up Monday’s win over Liverpool with another morale-boosting performance.

Having started the season with two straight losses — including a 4-0 drubbing at Brentford — United have now won consecutive league matches for the first time since February.

It was also the team’s first clean sheet of the season, thanks in part to David de Gea’s reflex save to keep out a header from Joe Aribo in the 66th.

It’s a result that will give a bit more breathing space to Ten Hag, the Dutch manager who faced a torrent of criticism and skepticism after the team’s dismal start to the campaign.

Ten Hag’s decisions to leave Maguire and star forward Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench were vindicated once again, with center-back pairing Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane looking solid in defense.

United did struggle to create quality chances in the first half, although Ten Hag was shaking his head in disbelief that his team didn’t go ahead in the 20th minute when they had three shots on goal from close range in the span of a few seconds.

Anthony Elanga’s effort from a tight angle was saved by goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu before Fernandes and Christian Eriksen both had their follow-up shots blocked by diving defenders.

Southampton had their best first-half chance on the half-hour mark when a corner fell to Armel Bella-Kotchap at the back post, but he lifted it over the crossbar.

United started stronger in the second half and got the goal after a well-worked move down the right flank. Dalot lifted a cross into the area and Fernandes was on hand to sidefoot it inside the far post.

Ronaldo and United’s new signing Casemiro — the Portugal star’s former teammate at Real Madrid — both came on in the second half.

Substitute Sekou Mara had two chances to equalize for Southampton in injury time, but his spectacular overhead kick was blocked by Dalot and he sidefooted another effort wide of the post a minute later.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness is currently managing a COVID-19 outbreak, involving a number of elderly clients, at the Geriatric Hospital.

As a result, visits will be restricted on Units Three and Four of the hospital located at Beckles Road, St Michael. The restrictions will be enforced with immediate effect. These Units include wards 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A and 2B, 3B, 4B and 5B. Visitors will not be allowed on these wards until further notice.

Chief Medical Officer, Dr The Most Honourable Kenneth George, said the Ministry was taking the outbreak “seriously” and would continue to monitor the situation and provide the appropriate guidance to move the hospital through this current challenge. He is reminding members of the public that elderly persons and those with comorbidities continue to be the most vulnerable to COVID-19 and is requesting the public’s cooperation when it comes to mask-wearing and getting vaccinated around this vulnerable group especially.

The Ministry will notify the public as to when it will be safe to resume visits to the hospital.

Cayman Airways Limited (CAL) hosted a special ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday August 23, 2022 to mark the official reopening of its exclusive Sir Turtle Club Lounge at Owen Roberts International Airport (ORIA) on Grand Cayman.

The lounge, which is the only airline loyalty programme lounge at ORIA, had been closed since the start of the airport’s major renovations five years ago, with the border closure due to the pandemic further delaying its official reopening.

“The new and improved Sir Turtle Club Lounge adds value to the Cayman Airways product on a whole, while offering up the possibility for a few more jobs for our people,” said Minister for Tourism and Transport, the Hon. Kenneth Bryan. “I’m excited to share this moment with the various organisations who were involved in getting this project off the ground, including the Cayman Islands Airports Authority, the Kozaily Design team who are responsible for this fresh new look, and our very own Cayman Airways employees who stepped up to the plate to take on the challenging task of coordinating it all. I have no doubt that our Sir Turtle Club members and Business Class passengers will be very satisfied with the enhancement to our services, and I am sure they will all enjoy this comfortable space while waiting for their flights.”

Cayman Airways President and CEO, Mr. Fabian Whorms, said the airline is in the midst of enhancing both its loyalty rewards programme (Sir Turtle Rewards) and its loyalty membership programme (Sir Turtle Club) in order to continue to maximize value for customers. “Access to this beautiful lounge is one component that will be accessible not just to passengers who purchase Business Class tickets, but also for qualifying members of both loyalty porgrammes. The interior design and construction of the new lounge was done by local company Kozaily Designs. In explaining the design direction for the lounge, Ms Alpha Kozaily said the vision was to showcase Cayman’s heritage and natural environment in all aspects of the design. From the geometric shape of the decorative wall tiles being a salute to Cayman’s turtling heritage, and the textured beige floor tiles a reflection of Cayman’s white sand beaches, to the sea blue hues in the custom chairs and light fixtures reflecting Cayman’s waters, and the carefully curated images of Cayman landscapes and seascapes on the walls, customers will enjoy a relaxing Caymanian-themed environment as they await their departing Cayman Airways flight.

Also in attendance at the reopening event were: the Deputy Premier, the Hon. Christopher Saunders; Minister for Health & Wellness and Home Affairs, the Hon. Sabrina Turner; Chief Officer in the Ministry of Tourism and Transport, Stran Bodden; Director of Tourism, Rosa Harris; CEO of the Cayman Islands Airport Authority, Albert Anderson; and CAL Board Member Kris Bergstrom.
