Teams from the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), responded to and began investigations into two separate fatal shooting incidents by the police.
In the first incident, the police reported that in the early morning on Friday, officers attended the scene of an alleged attempted burglary of a home in Cornwall Courts in Mount Salem, St James.
It was subsequently reported that the alleged burglar had attended the Mount Salem police station. It is reported that while at the police station, the man reportedly became ‘boisterous’ and fled from the police station.
Reports are that two officers went in pursuit of the man who was identified as being the suspect involved in the attempted burglary.
During the attempt by the police to apprehend the man, it is alleged that the man hurled stones at the police. One police officer discharged his firearm in the direction of the man, who was fatally wounded from that action. It was further reported that the deceased may be of unsound mind.
In the other incident on Sir Florizel Glasspole Highway, Kingston, reports are that a police unit was dispatched to respond to reports of robberies by men traveling on motorcycles.
The police engaged men fitting the description when the police reported that there was an exchange of gunfire, which allegedly commenced by the men.
It is reported that the motorcycle crashed and two men were seen with gunshot wounds.
The men were transported to the hospital where one man identified as Sudheer Galloway otherwise called Booky, was pronounced dead and the other is being treated for his injuries. A .38 Smith and Wesson revolver was reported as recovered from the incident.
INDECOM is appealing for the public’s assistance in identifying both deceased men.

Thirty (30) new COVID-19 cases in Antigua and Barbuda as of Thursday 28th July, 2022 at 6pm.
Four (4) cases were recorded on July 22nd, five (5) on July 25th, ten (10) on July 26th, eight (8) on July 27th and three (3) on July 28th.
Five hundred and twelve (512) samples were processed.
Twenty-four (24) recovered cases were recorded.
Consequently, the total number of persons with laboratory confirmed COVID-19 cases in Antigua and Barbuda is eight thousand seven hundred and seventy-three (8,773); which is inclusive of thirty-two (32) active cases.
There are no hospitalized cases.

Attorney General Dale Marshall says, “The Government of Barbados is heartened to learn that Barbados has been upgraded to Tier 2 in the US Department of State 2022 Trafficking in Persons Report.”
In a statement, he said that this upgrade represents significant work on the part of the National Task Force Against Trafficking in Persons.
Congratulating the team for their perseverance and commitment to the task at hand, he urged, “We are determined to prevent the heinous crime of Trafficking in Persons getting a solid foothold in Barbados. I also wish to thank all those who have partnered with us, particularly on our public education and sensitisation programme.”
And he asserted that this is not the time for the country to relax either.
“This upgrade cannot be taken for granted and the Task Force and Government will not rest on our laurels. There is still a great deal of work to be done to ensure that Barbados is able to identify and appropriately support vulnerable persons and victims, as well as ensure that perpetrators feel the full force of the law. These are not tasks that can be accomplished overnight, but with the help of the Barbadian public we will succeed. Again, I urge Barbadians, if you see something, say something. Trafficking in Persons is a vicious crime, an attack on a person’s human rights that must not be allowed to flourish in this country.
In 2021, Barbados was placed on the Tier 2 Watch List.

The annual Denbigh Agricultural, Industrial and Food Show is back in almost full swing with the usual crowded setup at the showground outside May Pen in Clarendon, but amid it are some notable attempts to maintain some of the established COVID-19 protocols.
On day one of the three-day show on Saturday, dubbed the Agricultural Minister’s Day, there are as many exhibitors as could be expected, with vehicular traffic being heavy into and inside the grounds, but crowd control measures being noticeably evident at many points.
Hand sanitisation has been a noticeable feature, with significant mask wearing among exhibitors and other stakeholders and staff, but much less consistent among the patrons, whose numbers are yet to build up to the staggering levels that are anticipated for Sunday and Monday.
But with all concerned seemingly just happy to be back at the historical showground for the 68th staging of the show which is labelled as the largest and most diverse agricultural event across the English-speaking Caribbean, it was a pretty relaxing day prior to the official ceremony in mid-afternoon.
Among the notable attendees on Saturday was new United States Ambassador to Jamaica, Jamaican-born Nick Perry; Jay Ebanks, Minister of Planning, Agriculture, Housing and Infrastructure in the Cayman Islands; Jamaica’s Agriculture and Fisheries Minister, Pearnel Charles Jr; State Minister Frank Witter; and Opposition Spokesman on Agriculture, Lothian Cousins.
With youth in agriculture a highpoint of the day, activities and judging are under way with the Farm Queen Competition and the National Youth in Agriculture Competition, both of which are scheduled to culminate later on Saturday.

Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls made it two victories from two games on day three of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England after defeating South Africa 68-49 in Pool A on Saturday.
The result means that Jamaica have won 13 out of their 16 previous encounters against South Africa.
The Sunshine Girls, who are looking to improve on their bronze medal four years ago in Australia, were led to victory by captain and goal shooter Jhaniele Fowler who had a perfect scoring record in the game.
Fowler played 40 minutes and scored 33 goals from 33 attempts as the Sunshine Girl won three of the four quarters.
They won the opening quarter 18-17, the second 19-12, and the third 17-12. South Africa took the fourth and final quarter 18-14 but lost the tie by 19 points.
Goal shooter Shimona Nelson and goal attacker Rebekah Robinson were also perfect on the day.
Nelson had 14 from 14 and Robinson ended with six from six.
Shanice Beckford supported well with 15 goals from 18 attempts.
Ine Mari Venter was the leading scorer for South Africa with 30 goals from 36 attempts.
Jamaica beat Wales 72-43 in their opening game on Friday. South Africa were playing their first match.
Jamaica will play their third game against Barbados on Monday while South Africa return to action against Barbados on Sunday.

Ahead of several close-contact activities that form part of this year’s Carnival celebrations, residents are being advised not to go out if they are exhibiting signs of COVID-19 infection or the monkeypox virus.
Health officials are reminding the population that COVID-19 continues to be a threat to humans and that, since March of this year, the number of cases has increased in Antigua and Barbuda and globally.
Since the start of the festival there have been mass gatherings, which will continue until next Tuesday, August 2. These can facilitate the spread of COVID-19 and monkey pox, since they “are characterized by the concentration of people at different locations.”
They include public and private functions and may be either planned or spontaneous, according to officials.
People exhibiting signs and symptoms consistent with monkey pox and COVID-19 disease should refrain from close contact – including sexual contact – with other persons; avoid attending gatherings; and follow the advice issued by the Ministry of Health.
Physical distancing; frequent hand-washing; using alcohol-based hand sanitizers; and wearing face masks are all being encouraged.
Officials are reminding the public that the monkeypox virus is spread by direct contact with the rash; through bodily fluids, such as pus or blood from skin lesions; scabs; and respiratory secretions. Clothing, sheets, towels and other objects can be sources of infection, as well.
The virus is also transmitted from a pregnant mother to her unborn child. Respiratory secretions can also be a source of infection.
Meanwhile, given the unusually hot weather conditions, the Ministry of Health has issued general guidelines for persons taking part in, or attending, Carnival events.
Persons are encouraged to stay hydrated by drinking adequate amounts of water and to use sunscreen, which reduces the risk of developing skin cancer.
Alcohol should be taken only moderately to avoid becoming intoxicated. However, officials say that persons should always have a designated driver if they intend to consume large amounts.
Tobacco use and cannabis abuse should also be avoided.

PRISON AUTHORITIES PROBE VIDEO OF SMUGGLING OVER PRISON FENCE
Correctional authorities are probing the circumstances surrounding a video which appears to show a bag being smuggled over the fence, purportedly of Her Majesty’s Prison.
Acting Prison Superintendent Jermaine Anthony says he has seen the video and is seeking to determine when the incident transpired.
He says it does appear to have taken place at Her Majesty’s Prison, but it is unclear if it is a recent incident.
A man with a bag is seen at the base of the perimeter wall and the bag is then hauled over by an individual on the Prison compound in a coordinated operation.
The video, once authenticated, would reignite concern over the issue of smuggling over the walls of the correctional facility.
Acting Prison Superintendent Anthony had only recently indicated in his end-of-Assizes report to the High Court that vulnerabilities persisted in perimeter security, partly because of the absence of a buffer zone as well as the height of the Prison Wall.
