Nadadores hacen brillar el nombre de Puerto Rico en competencia en Barbados

La Federación Puertorriqueña de Natación informó en sus redes sociales que Puerto Rico obtuvo medallas de oro, preseas de plata y galardones de bronce en la competencia ‘Central American and Caribbean Amateur Swimming Confederation’ (CCCAN) 2022 celebrado en Barbados.

“¡Dijimos presente en el CCCAN de Barbados 2022! Contra viento y marea, nuestros atletas llegaron a suelo barbadense para defender los colores patrios. Lo dieron todo vez tras vez en el agua. Como resultado, nuestra delegación se apoderó de la TERCERA POSICIÓN GLOBAL. Somos un equipo. Somos el equipo más unido. ¡SOMOS EL MEJOR EQUIPO!”, publicó la Federación.

Según indicaron en otra publicación, las dos medallas de oro de su último día en la competencia, corresponden a los nadadores Josean Massuco, en 400 metros libre, y Yeziel Morales, mientras que las preseas de plata son de Portia del Río, en 100 metros mariposa, y el equipo de relevo compuesto por Del Río, Zoleimar Figueroa, Karla Cruz y Marissa Lugo. Los galardones de bronce se los llevaron Marissa Lugo y los juveniles Iolahna Dávila y Diego Resto. 

En otras publicaciones detallaron la cantidad de preseas que se llevó la delegación boricua.

Digicel completes sale of Pacific operations Loop Jamaica

Digicel Group Holdings Limited (Digicel) has announced the completion of the sale of Digicel Pacific Limited, its wholly owned subsidiary, to a subsidiary of the Australian telecommunications company Telstra Corporation Limited, with funding from the Australian Government, through Export Finance Australia.

The transaction values Digicel Pacific at up to US$ 1.85 billion, inclusive of a three-year, US$ 250 million earn-out, equating to approximately 8.3 times DPL’s adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation of approximately US$222 million in the year ended March 31, 2021.

A payment of US$ 1.6 billion, before deduction for customary working capital and other adjustments, is payable to DGHL upon closing of the transaction and Digicel expects to achieve the maximum earn-out payment of US$ 50 million in respect of the first earn-out period which is based on service revenue performance for the year ended March 31, 2022.

Digicel has also reported that the Independent State of Papua New Guinea has agreed to enter into a binding international arbitration process to resolve the disputed one-time PGK 350 million (approximately US$ 99.4 million) exit tax and to waive a further PGK 50 million (approximately US$ 14.2 million) sought in respect of non-payment of the tax to date.

As part of this process US$ 99.4 million has been placed in escrow on closing pending the outcome of the arbitration which will take place in Singapore.

Digicel Pacific operates in six markets in the South Pacific including Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Samoa, Vanuatu, Tonga and Nauru.

There will be no change to the Digicel brand in the six markets and the current management team will remain with and continue to lead the business delivering best-in-class telecommunications services to Digicel Pacific’s valued customers throughout the region.

Skilled tradesmen in Antigua are in demand, Cabinet says

The Cabinet held a discussion on developments in Barbuda.

The members determined that the largest project in Barbuda is causing many skilled tradesmen to engage in work there, since the project pays a whole lot more than equivalent projects in Antigua.

Skilled tradesmen in Antigua are in demand.

The Cabinet repeated its determination to ensure that all households in Barbuda, in existence before Hurricane Irma, will receive their plot of land on which their houses exist for $1.00 in consideration.

The Cabinet further decided that it would provide every adult Barbudan, resident on Barbuda before the hurricane, with one acre of land to ensure that the Barbudans are treated as a priority.

Encuentran cuerpo de joven a las afueras de estación del Tren Urbano en San Juan

Policías municipales de San Juan investigaron en la tarde de ayer el hallazgo de un cuerpo a las afueras de la estación de Las Lomas del Tren Urbano, el cual resultó ser de un joven de 21 años. 

Según la Policía, fue alertada mediante una llamada al Sistema de Emergencias 9-1-1, por el guardia de seguridad, Carlos Anaya, y al personarse al lugar, encontraron el cadáver de José Andrés Rincón Feliciano.  

El perjudicado, que no tenía signos de violencia visibles, vestía un mahón azul corto, abrigo azul, correa marrón y no tenía calzado. Este tenía un tatuaje de una rosa en su mano izquierda. 

Al lugar se movilizó personal de Manejo de Emergencias y paramédicos, los cuales indicaron la ausencia de signos vitales. 

El policía municipal Elvin Rivera, se hizo cargo de la investigación.

Hallan confinado muerto en celda en Complejo Correccional Las Cucharas en Ponce

La Policía reportó el jueves una persona muerta en la institución de máxima seguridad del Complejo Correccional Las Cucharas de Ponce.

Según la Uniformada, fue localizado en una de las celdas el cuerpo de Edgardo Reyes Otero, de 37 años.

Al momento se investigan las causas de la muerte.

El agente Cottman Rosario, adscrito a la División de Homicidios del Cuerpo de Investigaciones Criminales de San Juan, en unión al fiscal Idelfonso Torres investigaron los hechos.

Un deslizamiento de tierra sepultó este jueves una escuela en una zona rural del departamento colombiano de Antioquia y hay menores atrapados. En un video que circula en las redes sociales se escucha a un hombre decir que ya se consiguió sacar a una niña.

“¡Ya sacamos a una niña! ¡Hemos sacado una niña ya!”, dice el hombre, mientras se escuchan unos aplausos. Todavía no hay informaciones oficiales sobre el número de niños que estarían dentro de la escuela.

El secretario sectorial de Desarrollo Territorial Sustentable, Juan Pablo López, informó que un equipo de gestión de riesgo se dirige a Tapartó, en los Andes.

“Activamos toda la red hospitalaria del suroeste y organismos de socorro para apoyar la atención de esta tragedia”, comunicó.

El presidente de Colombia, Iván Duque, subrayó que se está haciendo “un seguimiento permanente de la situación”.

Por su parte, Aníbal Gaviria Correa, gobernador de Antioquia, calificó lo ocurrido de “dolorosa tragedia” y pidió “volcar todos los esfuerzos y capacidades” en la atención integral de la emergencia.

Los videos que circulan en las redes sociales muestran a los vecinos trabajando en cadena para retirar los escombros.

“Un derrumbe se llevó toda la estructura de la escuela El Porvenir (…) necesitamos maquinaria, necesitamos que todas las entidades colaboren. ¡Por favor, por favor!”, se escucha decir a un hombre.

Hairouna Formosa Creative Arts Festival Signing Ceremony

The Republic of China, Taiwan is partnering with the Ministry of Culture to host the Hairouna Formosa Creative Arts Festival later this year.

A Signing ceremony was held at the Taiwanese Embassy this morning for the festival dubbed Collaboration Through Arts.

The agreement was signed by Taiwanese Ambassador Peter Sha Li Lan and Minister of Culture Carlos James.

Ambassador Lan says he is pleased to be a part of this important project.

COVID19 Death toll rises to 115

The number of COVID-19 related deaths in St. Vincent and the Grenadines now stands at 115.

Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Simone Keizer-Beache told NBC News, the latest death is an adult who was vaccinated over a year ago.

She is appealing to Vincentians to get their booster shots as she reminded the population that the COVID19 Pandemic is not over.

Minister of Agriculture, Saboto Caesar said the Government continued the payment today, for farmers who sold their Agricultural produce to the Love Box initiative.

Speaking on NBC’s Face to Face program this morning, Minister Caesar said the Government continues to put policies in place aimed at the continued development of the Agriculture sector.

He commended individuals and organizations who continue to contribute to the development of the Agricultural sector.
