Jamaican recording artiste Shaneil Muir collapsed on Saturday in her home city of Montego Bay, St James, Jamaica.

A release from her manager, Cara Vickers, a short while ago, said Muir was taken to GWest Urgent Care where she was assessed and sent on seven days leave due to stress-related symptoms and exhaustion.

According to the release, the stress-related symptoms and exhaustion led to her collapsing on Saturday.

Having been billed to perform at Shades Pon-Di-Beach and Cups Up in Ocho Rios, St Ann, Saturday and Hartford, Connecticut on Sunday, respectively, the ‘Yamabella’ deejay has apologised to her fans and the promoters of the two events.

According to the release, she has also vowed to take better care of her own health thus ensuring that she is able to honour her commitments to her fans as she continues to pursue the career she loves.

The ‘Top Gyal’ singer has also committed to speaking openly about her situation via her social media pages as soon as she is physically and mentally able to do so.

Dancehall artistes Chronic Law and D’Yani are also billed to perform at Shades Pon-Di-Beach at Sugar Pot Beach.

Some Barbadian fans are hoping to see her name on a show in Barbados soon.

Salah ends Man City’s unbeaten start as Liverpool triumph Loop Jamaica

Black Immigrant Daily News

LIVERPOOL, England (AP) — Mohamed Salah ended Manchester City’s unbeaten start to the season with his second-half goal securing a 1-0 win for Liverpool against the defending Premier League champion on Sunday.

On a dramatic day at Anfield, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was sent off for furiously running out of his technical area, while City coach Pep Guardiola angrily remonstrated with the home fans after seeing Phil Foden’s goal ruled out by VAR.

Salah — who scored the fastest Champions League hat trick in history against Rangers on Wednesday — provided the decisive moment in the 76th minute after Alisson’s clever long clearance landed straight at his feet.

Racing clear, Salah swept a shot past Ederson to fire Liverpool ahead.

Just minutes earlier, the forward thought he was about to be substituted when his number was erroneously raised as Klopp prepared to make changes.

Defeat for City leaves Guardiola’s team four points behind leader Arsenal, which won 1-0 at Leeds earlier in the day.

Victory provides hope for Liverpool that they can recover from an unconvincing start to the season, which left then 13 points adrift of City before kickoff.

Despite Liverpool’s struggles so far this term, this still felt like a meeting of the Premier League’s elite after the two teams’ dominance in recent years.

That was underlined by an even first half, with both having chances to take the lead.

Andy Robertson fired Liverpool’s best chance over, while Erling Haaland forced two saves from Alisson and might have done better with at least one close range header.

The game burst into life after the interval when Salah raced through on goal and looked certain to score.

But the Egyptian’s effort went wide of the post, with replays later showing Ederson had provided a crucial touch.

That went unnoticed by the officials and City restarted the play with a goal kick, from which Foden eventually found the back of the net.

With the visiting fans rejoicing, VAR invited referee Anthony Taylor to review the incident on the pitch-side monitor.

Walking past a furious Guardiola, who remonstrated wildly, Taylor ruled the goal out for a foul on Fabinho in the buildup.

City’s manager was furious, repeatedly turning to the Anfield fans behind the dugout to gesticulate.

The crowd delighted in his anger and erupted shortly after when Salah fired Liverpool in front.

When Alisson collected an inaccurate free kick from Kevin de Bruyne, the goalkeeper then launched a kick downfield to perfectly pick out his teammate.

This time Salah made no mistake with his finish.

There was still time for more drama when Klopp raced out of his technical area to appeal a decision, leading to him receiving a red card.

Substitute Darwin Nunez might also have doubled Liverpool’s lead when making a mess of a late chance with only Ederson to beat.

Support for Women’s Centre IT programme improves Loop Jamaica

With the aim of strengthening the employability of teen mothers in today’s digitally-driven world, Sandals Foundation recently handed over a newly outfitted computer laboratory to the Women’s Centre Foundation of Jamaica’s Montego Bay branch.

The computer lab is to serve some 25 teen mothers, as well as the Lucea branch community improving digital capacity of the young women, and allowing for their National Standard Curriculum (NSC) and Caribbean Secondary Examination Council (CSEC) certification in Information Technology in order to improve their employability.

Valued at approximately $1.5 million, upgrades at the lab included provision of six computers and desks, electrical upgrades and surge protector, AC servicing and painting of the facility.

Judian Scott, Manager of the Montego Bay Women’s Centre, was effusive in her praise for the assistance that was given by Sandals Foundation, saying it will advance the centre’s future plans.

“We are planning to offer a new skill, which is customer service, and so the computer lab will assist the young women to become employable in the BPO sector,” she observed.

“Because of these donations, the girls will be able to upskill and become better citizens in the society,” Scott added.

Over the years, Sandals Foundation has donated a number of lap tops computers, as well as fully outfitted the Cosmetology Lab used by students to sit the CSEC exams, and allowing participants to do their practical sessions, respectively. The improvements have resulted in many students achieving full certification in their fields of study.

“Some of our girls were successful in as many as seven CSEC subjects,” Scott gushed.

Director of Field Operations at the Women’s Centre, Beverly Martin-Berry (right), presentation a plaque of appreciation to Dawn Smith, General Manager of Sandals Royal Caribbean, who accepts on behalf of Sandals Foundation.

In expressing gratitude, Director of Field Operations at the Women’s Centre, Beverly Martin-Berry, said: “On behalf of Sports and Culture Minister Olivia Grange and the board of management, staff and students, we are highly appreciative of the partnership forged, as the Sandals Foundation is always willing to step up and assist the centres island-wide.

Martin-Berry said the computer lab aligns with the effort of the Government’s vision 2030 programme which is about human capital development, by allowing the students to become information technology savvy, as well as feel empowered.

Dawn Smith, General Manager of Sandals Montego Bay, who participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony on behalf of Sandals Foundation, lauded the Women’s Centre of Jamaica for the work the organisation is doing on behalf of young pregnant teens. She affirmed a commitment of the resort “to have the young women complete their six-week work experience by becoming part of the Sandals Hospitality programme.”

Executive Director of Sandals Foundation, Heidi Clarke, said: “Sandals Foundation believes in second chances, and in using education as a vehicle for transformation, hence our longstanding support of the Women’s Centre of Jamaica.”

Clarke pointed to the foundations’ 40 for 40 Initiative which offers 40 outreach transformation programmes spread across the region, noting that the support to the computer lab firmly aligns with empowering the Caribbean region’s most vulnerable women by ensuring they have access to the resources they need to further their education and skills development.

Hosein: PM must speak on Ramlogan/Ramdeen case

BARATARIA/San Juan MP Saddam Hosein reiterated the UNC’s position that the Prime Minister must address the situation which led to the corruption case against former attorney general Anand Ramlogan and former opposition senator Gerald Ramdeen collapsing last week.

In a statement, Hosein referred to statements made by Dr Rowley at a PNM public meeting in Diego Martin about him as prime minister having no involvement in the prosecution of anyone in TT.

A purported agreement to indemnify Jamaica-born Vincent Nelson, KC, from civil and criminal prosecution in return for a notarised statement led to the case against Ramlogan and Ramdeen being dropped.

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Roger Gaspard announced the discontinuation of the matter against Ramlogan and Ramdeen on Monday, but Armour said it is not over yet.

Attorney General Reginald Armour SC on October 10 said Nelson has not recanted any admission of wrongdoing he made in the criminal proceedings.

He promised to take the advice of eminent local and foreign senior and King’s Counsel “to ensure that no stone is left unturned in the pursuit of justice for the people of TT.”

Armour maintainted his position that the case had not collapsed when questioned about it by Hosein during a meeting of the House of Representatives’ Standing Finance Committee on October 12.

Armour’s predcessor, San Fernando West MP Faris Al-Rawi, on October 12 said since the related matters are still “under the watch” of the DPP, he cannot say publicly whether the Prime Minister or the Cabinet approved an indemnity agreement for Nelson, which he signed in 2017 when he was AG.

Hosein asked if this meant Al-Rawi was making secret deals with witnesses without Rowley’s knowledge.

” PM Rowley must now tell this country when he became aware of the indemnity agreement between Mr. Al-Rawi and Mr. Nelson.”

Recording made by dead mother claims husband doused her with methylated, set her on fire

Dead Analee Gonsalves

…relatives hand over recording of woman’s version of events to Police

One day after 20-year-old Analee Gonsalves succumbed to her injuries while receiving medical attention at the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH), her family released a recording of the woman debunking claims that she was burned with porridge by her 24-year-old husband.

It was previously reported that on August 23, 2022, Gonsalves was doused with hot porridge during an argument with her alleged abusive husband at their La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara (WBD) home.

A relative of the dead woman told this publication that they were first told that the woman was burned on the face while cooking, but when they arrived at the hospital, they were told that she was burned with boiling porridge by her husband during an argument.

However, this publication was informed that after the incident, an investigation was launched but it was delayed because Gonsalves had refused to give detectives a statement.

This, the family said, was because the woman wanted to save her children – a one-month-old and an 18-month-old – before telling them the truth.

It was further reported that this was not the first time Gonsalves was abused by the man.Following the incident, the woman was admitted as a patient at the hospital with severe burns to her face, back, and other parts of her body.

Her husband, who was later identified as 24-year-old Ajay Persaud called “Nicholas”, had escaped and was on the run.

However, on Saturday the dead woman’s grandmother told this publication that after the rumour about her granddaughter being burned with hot porridge kept circulating, she along with family members released the recording of the woman’s statement to the Police and also on social media.

Analee Gonsalves while hospitalised

In the recording, the now-dead woman, who seemed to be in excruciating pain, said that the tale her husband is telling is not true.

In the recording she is heard saying, “On the 23rd of August, we [she and her husband] had an argument concerning a boxers. He did wan go on the road and the boxers he did wan, it didn’t dry, it did wet and he start cussing and throwing thing and suh in de room. Ah had nuff work fuh do, ah had to look after baby, ah had to mek dinner, ah had to drop meh netting and ah get angry and ah tek de cologne bottle and the cream and ah start throw dem through the window and while I throwing dem through de window… ah mek he bird cage fall down.”

The woman continued relating her story saying, “So when the bird cage fall down, he starting cussing up that if me know how much he bird worth and nothing in de room ain’t worth more than he bird. He look fuh he cutlass but he ain’t find it. And den he come back and open de methylated bottle, I went on de bed with me one-month-old baby, she deh lie down a lil part away from me and I de sit down…he open de methylated bottle… he start throwing it on me, and ah start stifle and ah turn over and lie down on meh belly and before ah turn round back, he spark he lighter… from behind…”.

She recalled that, “Meh baby went on the bed, ah didn’t want she get burn and the fire start ketching and he throw a sheet on me. And when he throw de sheet, the fire didn’t out and he pull me up but he couldn’t pull me up because de top that ah had on de already burn off.”

“Ah try pulling off meh pants and while ah pulling off meh pants he holler fuh Ashley, one ah he sister-in-law that went home, only she de went home with we, she did cooking. When he shout fuh Ashley, she run in de room and scramble the baby and then he guh and he shout fuh he mother from de veranda because she was at de street head not far from where we living. When he shout fuh he mother, she come in, when she come in now, she carry we at de hospital. When we reach at de hospital, she tell me that leh ah don’t talk de truth that Nicholas bun me, leh me seh that ah de boiling porridge and de stove blow up and de porridge bun me,” the woman is heard saying in the recording.

“When we deh at de hospital now, he (Persaud) get admit at Bess Hospital (for minor burns he received) and me get transfer to Georgetown (GPHC). The ambulance bring me (to GPHC) and lil after, he mother come. She did not inform my parents about anything, she tell de doctor dat she is my mother.”

“De next day (August 24), one of her friends come and visit me, a lady name Sabrina. When Sabrina come, he (Persaud) call on aunty Sabrina phone fuh talk to me and he tell me dat how if I talk de truth he gon kill he self and kill meh two children dem, that is why I never give de correct statement wah happen,” she explained.

The now dead woman claimed that after receiving the threat, she began thinking about her children and their safety. In the recording, she said she was praying to get better to save her children, but that never happened.

“Ah de waiting fuh go home and get meh children dem and then talk wah he do to me. But, after de pain start getting overbearing, ah give a statement. And now a feel like giving up because de pain getting more worse and worse. Somebody got to do something about he. Somebody got to do something about he.”

“…and a want meh children dem, when ah go home, ah want meh children dem. Ah want meh mother to get control ova ma children dem,” Gonsalves cried in the recording.

On remand: Ajay Persaud – husband of now dead Analee Gonsalves

Following the incident, an intelligence-led operation by the Police in Region Six resulted in the arrest of Persaud, who was later slapped with an attempted murder charge.

He remains in prison but is expected to make his next court appearance on October 20, when a murder charge will be instituted.

Meanwhile, the woman’s family said that they are hoping that the man faces the full brunt of the law and that justice for the death of the mother of two be served soon.
