Police Officers Receive Commendation, Promotions At Commissioner’s Parade

On Wednesday, July 13, 2022, Commissioner of Police, Milton Desir, hosted the first Commissioner’s Parade for the year 2022. The parade included a ceremony for commendations, awards and promotions.

A total of ninety-eight 98 officers received commendations in various categories outlined below:

1. Regional Security System (RSS) Medals for service in Bahamas, in the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian.

2. RSS Medals for humanitarian assistance, disaster relief, and security related operations following the eruption of La Soufriere Volcano in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

3. High Commendation and Award for acts of tremendous bravery during the execution of duty.

4. Commendations for exception work carried out with skill accompanied by prompt action or tireless investigation.

5. Awards for outstanding performance.

Accompanying the commendations, promotions were announced for seventy-nine (79) officers.

• Twenty-two (22) Special Reserve Police Officers were promoted to the rank of Special Police Constable.

• Twenty-seven (27) Special Police Constables were elevated to the rank of Police Constable.

• Six (6) Inspectors, eleven (11) Sergeants and thirteen (13) Corporals were appointed.

The Commissioner of Police congratulated all persons elevated in rank and commended all officers for their dedicated service. He implored officers to continue recognizing the current crime situation and committing themselves to the challenge of restoring law and order.

He went on to wish them every success in their new roles and added responsibilities.

La Policía informó el viernes de otra querella que se recibió en el precinto de Carolina Sur durante la mañana con relación a fraude en la compra de boletos para el concierto de Bad Bunny, en esta ocasión a través de la página web ClasificadosPR.

Según la Policía, alegó la perjudicada, que compró las taquillas para el espectáculo “Un Verano Sin Ti” y realizó el pago a través de la aplicación ATH Móvil por la cantidad de 190 dólares.

Sin embargo, dicha persona les vendió los mismos boletos a otras dos personas.

El agente Rical Álvarez, del precinto de Carolina Sur, investigó este caso.

Drake’s Team Denies Sweden Arrest As Free Drake Trends On Twitter

There were reports on Thursday afternoon that the Canadian rapper, along with a bodyguard, was arrested in Sweden for possession of marijuana.

Social media was rife with speculation about the incident, with many fans sharing posts and memes about Drake and others asking for new music from the rapper about the incident.

Several news sites and journalists have reported otherwise, claiming that the rapper was never arrested by Sweden officials. However, one report confirmed that he was indeed in the country but not in police custody.

On Thursday night, the rapper began trending on social media after news surfaced that he and his close protection officer were arrested by local police at a nightclub in the country’s capital, Stockholm.

Drake previously shared a series of posts on Instagram regarding his arrival at the country’s Arlanda airport on Wednesday. The rapper shared updates with his fans showing his jet, the Boeing 767 he calls “Air Drake,” touching down in the city.

The rapper was also spotted shopping in the Östermalm district of Stockholm and also dining at Ciccio’s restaurant.

It’s not known if the rapper is just on vacation or visiting the European country for other reasons.

His team has, however, categorically denied any reports about an arrest in Sweden.

Late on Thursday night, Senior Front Page Editor for the Huffington Post, Philip Lewis, reported on his Twitter account that Drake’s team and Swedish police are denying arresting Drake.

“FYI: I talked to Swedish police and they told me Drake is not currently in their custody. (That was the only info they would give),” one tweet said.

“From Drake’s team: “Drake is at his hotel and has not been arrested,” he added.

Sweden is a serious place when it comes to weed which is illegal. In 2019, A$AP Rocky was arrested for a fight between him, his entourage, and two local men.

Reports came out this month that Rocky was released after former President Donald Trump threatened to wage economic war against the country if the rapper was not released. He later received a suspended sentence.

IDB pumps US$130M into Guyana’s economic recovery from Covid pandemic

GEORGETOWN, Guyana: Guyana will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of its public policy and fiscal management response to the COVID-19 pandemic with a US$130 million loan from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

The operation, the second of a two programmatic-based loan series, will support Guyana’s government efforts to promote macroeconomic stability and withdraw emergency tax measures as part of a strategy to adapt its public policy and fiscal response to the new phase of the COVID-19 pandemic. The first phase of this operation previously approved in December 2020 was disbursed in January 2021.

This new phase of IDB financing will also support measures to increase the efficiency and transparency of government procurement processes as well as measures to promote greater fiscal sustainability, address climate change and accelerate economic recovery with greater gender equality. These include the approval of a medium-term fiscal framework, the implementation of recovery measures included in the Guyana COVID-19 National Action Plan and the approval of a new institutional framework for public investment management, among other measures.

The IDB loan has a maturity period of 20 years and a grace period of 5.5 years and an interest rate based on the Secured Overnight Financing Rate (SOFR).

PUMA signs fastest woman alive, Elaine Thompson-Herah Loop Barbados

Five-time Olympic champion and the fastest woman alive, Elaine Thompson-Herah, has signed with Global sports brand PUMA.

The 30-year-old Jamaican is set to boost the company’s roster of track and field athletes ahead of the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, USA.

She was last tied to the Nike brand, but that arrangement reportedly ended on a rocky note recently.

Thompson-Herah is the first woman in history to win the sprint double at consecutive Olympics, capturing gold in both the 100-metre and 200-metre at the 2016 Rio Olympics and again at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Aside from her historic Olympic achievements, she became the fastest woman alive when she ran 10.54 seconds at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, USA in 2021.

Reacting to the signing, PUMA CEO Bj?rn Gulden said: “We are thrilled that Elaine has chosen to join the PUMA family”.

“With her speed she embodies everything we stand for as a brand. Elaine ran the second fastest time in women’s history last year and is only 0.05 seconds off a world record. She really targets the 100-metre world record and we want to help her achieve that goal with our most innovative performance products.”

PUMA has a long history in track and field and has sponsored the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) since 2002. Thompson-Herah now joins her Jamaican compatriot, sprint superhero, world record holder and Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt.

“PUMA just felt like the right fit, a company that has been working with the world’s fastest man for decades,” said Thompson-Herah.

“I’m excited to be part of such an elite group and can’t wait to get started. I really want to break the 100-metre world record. The current one has been undefeated for 34 years. Now is the time. I think there’s still a lot I can unleash,” she added.

Le coureur de la sélection de Guyane remporte la 7ème étape entre Ducos et Le François ce vendredi 15 juillet.

C’était l’objectif de la sélection de Guyane : remporter au moins une étape et préparer le futur tour de Guyane. Après le succès de la sélection de la Guadeloupe hier à Ducos, le coureur guyanais Dilhan Will permet à la sélection de la Guyane d’ouvrir son compteur au Tour cycliste de Martinique, ce vendredi.

Lors de la 7ème étape entre Ducos et Le François (117,1 km), le champion des Outre-Mer franchit la ligne d’arrivée en tête, après 3h 01 minute et 37 secondes. Le Guyanais est parti en solitaire vers Dupré au Marin et n’a jamais été rattrapé.

Il devance le peloton du maillot jaune Axel Carnier d’1 minute 13 secondes et s’impose en solitaire. 

Une revanche après les soucis de la veille

La veille, Dilhan Will avait connu une crevaison et avait été dépanné très tardivement. Plus dangereux au niveau du classement général, le coureur de Guyane savoure sa victoire du jour.

Axel Carnier préserve son maillot jaune ce vendredi. Il n’y a pas de changement au général.

Ce samedi, les coureurs quittent le François pour Rivière-Pilote, en passant par la côte de Valat au Saint-Esprit.
