LONDON (AP) — After a winless start to the season and a dispiriting loss to their archrival, Liverpool set out to make a statement against Bournemouth on Saturday.

A 9-0 win, equalling the record for the biggest-ever victory in the Premier League, sends a loud message indeed.

Liverpool blew away Bournemouth at Anfield to put their early-season struggles behind them, with Roberto Firmino scoring two goals and setting up three more.

After opening the campaign with two draws and a loss, it was the kind of performance that will erase many of the questions about whether Jurgen Klopp’s team had lost its edge.

Manchester City also showed that they can never be counted out after the defending champion found themselves trailing by two goals for the second straight game. Erling Haaland netted a second-half hat trick as City rallied to beat Crystal Palace 4-2 at home — having only managed to salvage a 3-3 draw at Newcastle last weekend.

Manchester United and Chelsea also won on a good day for the Premier League’s traditional powers.

United made it back-to-back wins in the Premier League for the first time since February by beating Southampton 1-0 away thanks to a second-half goal by Bruno Fernandes.

Chelsea overcame the early sending off of Connor Gallagher to beat Leicester 2-1 at Stamford Bridge behind two goals from Raheem Sterling.

Also, Brighton beat Leeds 1-0 and Brentford drew 1-1 at home against Everton.

Arsenal, the only team to start the season with three wins, had a chance to maintain their perfect record when they played Fulham at home in the late game.

Judge Jay-Z Awarded $6.78 Million in Royalties Against Parlux Fragrances

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Jay-Z is adding to his vast fortune as a Manhattan court gave judgment in favor of the rapper against a perfume company that initially sued the rapper for millions in damages.

Jay-Z partnered with Parlux Fragrances in 2013 for his “Gold Jay-Z” cologne. The relationship with the parties, however, deteriorated, with Parlux suing the rapper a few years later in 2016.

Parlux had brought a $68 million lawsuit in October 2021 for damages. The company claimed that the New York rapper failed to promote the cologne in violation of their agreement, and as a result, the company suffered losses.

On Thursday, Jay-Z was awarded millions for unpaid royalties plus interest for the cologne Gold Jay-Z. The rapper appeared during the trial this week which culminated on Thursday with him being awarded the judgment.

The matter was presided over by Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Andrew Borrok, who found that Parlux owed the rapper $6.78 million in unpaid royalties, including interest.

“We’ve been awarded and will be receiving the money as we should,” Jay-Z’s lawyer Alex Spiro said.

Parlux had been sued by Jay-Z in a counterclaim after bringing the initial lawsuit worth $68 million, which the jury declined to award.

Jay-Z had countersued for $4.5 million in royalties. The case took three weeks before the jury found neither side should be liable for damages.

Parlux previously lost its appeals case in February and was found to be liable to pay the rape for royalty payments due and owing going back to 2015. The amount of royalties was in dispute leading to Judge Borrok determining the amount owed.

According to a NY Post report, Parlux has filed an appeal on justice Borrok’s ruling.

Meanwhile, as he is as leaving the courtroom, a smartly dressed Jay-Z was asked by the press if he had comments on the matter. One person could be heard asking the rapper if he had “98 problems now,” to which he laughed.

“98, I like that,” he said as he cracked a smile while walking away with his lawyers.

Fernandes gives Man United 1-0 win over Southampton in EPL Loop Jamaica

Black Immigrant Daily News

SOUTHAMPTON, England (AP) — Manchester United’s stand-in captain Bruno Fernandes made it back-to-back wins for Erik ten Hag’s team by scoring the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday.

Wearing the captain’s armband in place of the still-benched Harry Maguire, Fernandes steered in a cross from Diogo Dalot in the 55th minute as United followed up Monday’s win over Liverpool with another morale-boosting performance.

Having started the season with two straight losses — including a 4-0 drubbing at Brentford — United have now won consecutive league matches for the first time since February.

It was also the team’s first clean sheet of the season, thanks in part to David de Gea’s reflex save to keep out a header from Joe Aribo in the 66th.

It’s a result that will give a bit more breathing space to Ten Hag, the Dutch manager who faced a torrent of criticism and skepticism after the team’s dismal start to the campaign.

Ten Hag’s decisions to leave Maguire and star forward Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench were vindicated once again, with center-back pairing Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane looking solid in defense.

United did struggle to create quality chances in the first half, although Ten Hag was shaking his head in disbelief that his team didn’t go ahead in the 20th minute when they had three shots on goal from close range in the span of a few seconds.

Anthony Elanga’s effort from a tight angle was saved by goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu before Fernandes and Christian Eriksen both had their follow-up shots blocked by diving defenders.

Southampton had their best first-half chance on the half-hour mark when a corner fell to Armel Bella-Kotchap at the back post, but he lifted it over the crossbar.

United started stronger in the second half and got the goal after a well-worked move down the right flank. Dalot lifted a cross into the area and Fernandes was on hand to sidefoot it inside the far post.

Ronaldo and United’s new signing Casemiro — the Portugal star’s former teammate at Real Madrid — both came on in the second half.

Substitute Sekou Mara had two chances to equalize for Southampton in injury time, but his spectacular overhead kick was blocked by Dalot and he sidefooted another effort wide of the post a minute later.

Seabed mapping survey and data presented to government Loop Cayman Islands

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Cayman Compass

The UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) has completed a seabed mapping survey for the Cayman Islands, uncovering information about the depth and nature of the seabed and its ecosystems. The data from the survey has been officially presented to, and shared with the Cayman Islands Government. Under the Ministry of District Administration and Lands, the Department of Lands and Survey (Lands & Survey) will serve as the custodians of the data.

Commenting on the survey, Premier and Minister for Sustainability and Climate Resiliency Honourable G. Wayne Panton said:

The mapping of the shallow seabed from the shoreline out to the drop off (approximately 130 feet) provides us with a clear picture of the bottom structures including coral, sand and seagrass beds.

In addition to having such valuable information on the nearshore marine environment, the data will facilitate the creation of more comprehensive storm surge and flooding models, enabling effective mitigation strategies for the impacts of severe weather and climate change.

The provision of this technical support is yet another example of the excellent partnership the Cayman Islands Government enjoys with the United Kingdom. We are grateful for the support of the Governor’s Office, the UK Hydrographic Office and the Joint Nature Conservation Committee for their collaboration on this project.

Back in November of 2021, the three Cayman Islands underwent a seabed mapping exercise by international geo-data specialists as part of a ?1 million cross-overseas territory project funded by the UK Government’s Overseas Territories (OTs) Seabed Mapping Programme. Additionally, UKHO have also installed four ‘tide gauges’ which remotely monitor sea-level change. On 15 June 2022, UKHO representative Kerrie Howard visited Grand Cayman where H.E. Governor Martyn Roper on behalf of the UK government officially handed over the survey data to Premier Hon. G. Wayne Panton and Hon. Julianna O’Connor, Minister for Lands.

Commenting on the official visit, Kerrie Howard, Hydrographic Programme Manager, UKHO, said:

I was delighted to visit Grand Cayman to hand over a substantial dataset to the Lands and Survey Department. The data covers both the land and sea for all three islands and although primarily captured to support the safety of navigation for mariners around the islands it will be shared across the Islands Government ministries and departments providing an invaluable source of information to support their understanding, management and protection of the environment.

While Lands and Survey will hold responsibility for the data, the survey data has been shared with subject-area experts within various Government departments and authorities who operate within the marine environment including: the Department of Environment, Hazard Management Cayman Islands, Cayman Islands Coast Guard, Maritime Authority, National Weather Service and the Port Authority.

Minister responsible for Lands, Honourable Juliana O’Connor-Connolly also commented.

She said:

Our Lands subject-area experts are delighted to receive this data from the UKHO. This is a huge leap forward in filling a void in the mapping information Lands & Survey already holds and will be of immense value to the department as well as to other relevant Government entities. We recognize that data gathering is an ongoing process to ensure the most up-to-date data is available. Therefore, whilst we hold aerial photography from the 1950’s to present day there hasn’t been any recent hydrographic surveys that cover the underwater environment of the three islands, this survey provides the accuracy needed to ensure world class operations and service.

The Lands and Survey department also reports being included in the International III Code ‘Flag State’ audit of the UK and Overseas Territories last year which included the Cayman Islands. With a primary focus on SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea), having current seabed mapping data to the required specification represents a very positive step forward. The latest coastal shipping charts (sold by UKHO) will soon present the latest, most accurate GPS data for waters around the Cayman Islands, helping to make navigation in local waters safer.

As an Overseas Territory, the Cayman Islands Government is given the data free to further operations. Private entities and individuals can access the data by purchasing it. The UKHO is an entirely self-funded through selling the data it collects to third-parties.

Cayman Airways reopens Sir Turtle Club lounge at airport Loop Cayman Islands

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Cayman Compass

Cayman Airways Limited (CAL) hosted a special ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday August 23, 2022 to mark the official reopening of its exclusive Sir Turtle Club Lounge at Owen Roberts International Airport (ORIA) on Grand Cayman.

The lounge, which is the only airline loyalty programme lounge at ORIA, had been closed since the start of the airport’s major renovations five years ago, with the border closure due to the pandemic further delaying its official reopening.

“The new and improved Sir Turtle Club Lounge adds value to the Cayman Airways product on a whole, while offering up the possibility for a few more jobs for our people,” said Minister for Tourism and Transport, the Hon. Kenneth Bryan. “I’m excited to share this moment with the various organisations who were involved in getting this project off the ground, including the Cayman Islands Airports Authority, the Kozaily Design team who are responsible for this fresh new look, and our very own Cayman Airways employees who stepped up to the plate to take on the challenging task of coordinating it all. I have no doubt that our Sir Turtle Club members and Business Class passengers will be very satisfied with the enhancement to our services, and I am sure they will all enjoy this comfortable space while waiting for their flights.”

Cayman Airways President and CEO, Mr. Fabian Whorms, said the airline is in the midst of enhancing both its loyalty rewards programme (Sir Turtle Rewards) and its loyalty membership programme (Sir Turtle Club) in order to continue to maximize value for customers. “Access to this beautiful lounge is one component that will be accessible not just to passengers who purchase Business Class tickets, but also for qualifying members of both loyalty porgrammes. There are also other value adding offerings being reviewed at this time, such as priority check-in and boarding, baggage fee waivers and upgrades,” he noted. “We want to deliver the maximum value and exclusivity that we can to our loyal customers, and we are looking to build a new generation of customers who see even more value than has been traditionally offered, when choosing the national airline.”

The interior design and construction of the new lounge was done by local company Kozaily Designs. In explaining the design direction for the lounge, Ms Alpha Kozaily said the vision was to showcase Cayman’s heritage and natural environment in all aspects of the design. From the geometric shape of the decorative wall tiles being a salute to Cayman’s turtling heritage, and the textured beige floor tiles a reflection of Cayman’s white sand beaches, to the sea blue hues in the custom chairs and light fixtures reflecting Cayman’s waters, and the carefully curated images of Cayman landscapes and seascapes on the walls, customers will enjoy a relaxing Caymanian-themed environment as they await their departing Cayman Airways flight.

Also in attendance at the reopening event were: the Deputy Premier, the Hon. Christopher Saunders; Minister for Health & Wellness and Home Affairs, the Hon. Sabrina Turner; Chief Officer in the Ministry of Tourism and Transport, Stran Bodden; Director of Tourism, Rosa Harris; CEO of the Cayman Islands Airport Authority, Albert Anderson; and CAL Board Member Kris Bergstrom.

The new lounge is only open to Cayman Airways customers who purchase Business Class tickets, as well as to Sir Turtle Club members, and Sir Turtle Rewards Platinum and Gold members.
