Gucci Mane Regrets Verzuz Outburst On Jeezy’s Dead Friend Pookie Loc

Black Immigrant Daily News

Gucci Mane is expressing his regret at dissing Jeezy’s longtime friend Pookie Loc during their Verzuz battle in 2020.

Since then, it seems that Gucci Mane had reignited his beef with Jeezy, which was at the center of their beef 15 years ago. While speaking at the 2022 Revolt Summit recently, Gucci Mane admitted his actions were uncalled for and one he now regrets. During the Verzuz battle, he played his track, “The Truth”, a song that references the manner in which Jeezy’s close friend, Henry “Pookie Loc” Lee Clark III, was killed.

“Put that n***a ass in the dirt. Smoking on Pookie Loc tonight. Send some more, I’ma send ’em back the same way … In a box,” Gucci said at Verzuz.

He explained that he didn’t know that the track would have played and he didn’t plan in advance to rap the track either.

“I didn’t know when I got on the stage, that was gonna happen. [That] I was gonna say that,” Gucci said. “I ain’t like, ‘I’m bringing negative energy.’ It just really came out … I mean what I say, I say what I mean. So my thing was, if I was bad enough to say it in the studio, I’m bad enough to say it in your face.”

He added that after leaving the venue he reflected on what happened and had immediate regrets. “I don’t even like to perform that song,” Gucci continues. “When I left, I was like, ‘Damn. I wish I wouldn’t have said what I said.’”

At the Verzuz, the rapper was not chastised by Jeezy, although many Verzuz attendees called out Gucci for the low blow. Instead, Jeezy had encouraged Gucci to end the 15-year beef and do it for the culture and younger artists who needed a strong example.

“I’ll tell you what. See when I even called you and extended this invite [to join Verzuz], my n***a, I did it as a real man,” he began. “It’s been 20 motherf**king years—” he said, before Gucci interjected with “15!”

Jeezy went on to explain to Gucci Mane that it’s time to bury the hatchet and do something great for the culture and show the world that young black artists like King Von and Nipsey Hussle’s deaths shouldn’t be the new normal.

In his Summit discussion, the rapper said that Jeezy’s comment also weighed on him. “After I did what I did, and he came back and said what he said, I felt what he was saying,” he said.

Gucci Mane was previously charged for the murder of Pookie Loc in 2005. he claimed to have been allegedly attacked by four men, and he returned fire, killing Pookie. His murder charge was, however later discharged for insufficient evidence.

An alleged gang member linked to the murder of one man and injury of another during an attack at a house in Westmoreland in May of this year has been arrested.

The Westmoreland police say the alleged perpetrator, 20-year-old Vashean Braham, otherwise called ‘Tugrat’, of Shrewsbury, Whithorn in Westmoreland was held during an operation in the Darliston section of the parish on Tuesday.

Allegations are that Braham was part of a group of armed men who went to the house to carry out the attack. Reports are that at about 12:15 am, Braham and several armed men gained entry into the home of the victims and opened gunfire, hitting two of the occupants.

The police were alerted and upon their arrival, both victims were taken to the hospital, where O’Neil Rodney was pronounced dead.

The police said Braham was later held during an operation on Tuesday and has since been charged with murder, wounding with intent, and illegal possession of a firearm in connection with the incident that took place at Roaring River on Thursday, May 26.

Police said a court date for Braham is being finalised.

PAHO Urges More Collaborative Action To Stop Monkeypox Outbreak In The Region – St. Lucia Times News

Black Immigrant Daily News

As monkeypox cases remain at around 40,000 in the Americas, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) this week called on countries to intensify the response actions, prioritizing detection, surveillance and community engagement to reduce new cases and put an end to the outbreak in the region.

“It’s too early to proclaim victory against monkeypox, as 7000 cases were reported in the past week alone,” PAHO’s interim Assistant Director Dr. Marcos Espinal said during a special session to update Member States on the regional monkeypox situation at the 30th Pan American Sanitary Conference.

“The Americas still account for the highest proportion of monkeypox cases globally,” Dr. Espinal added, and “while trends may indicate a stabilization in the total number of cases, the virus could mutate and cause more infections.”

Monkeypox cases have been reported in 31 countries and territories in the Americas. The United States still accounts for more than half of cases, but rapid increases were seen in Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Mexico and Chile since the World Health Organization (WHO) declared monkeypox a public health emergency of international concern two months ago.

Under – or lack of – reporting could make this number even higher, Dr. Espinal continued, since infected persons may not necessarily seek medical care or report a case to authorities.

Latin America and the Caribbean had limited experience in the diagnosis of monkeypox when the first case was reported in Argentina in May 2022.

PAHO has since provided PCR detection supplies and trained laboratory workers in workshops conducted in Brazil, Mexico and Jamaica. “We now have over 40 National Public Health Laboratories with the capacity to implement molecular diagnosis for monkeypox,” Dr. Espinal said.

The outbreak continues to primarily affect men, who make up 95.5% of cases, and over 70% of cases are reported to be among men who have sex with men aged 20 to 49 years old.

Over 60% of cases in the Americas are reported to be HIV-positive, a proportion twice as high as in Europe.

Community engagement and communication efforts to reach populations most at-risk have been at the center of the regional response since the beginning.

PAHO has been working with Member States in the region to involve groups of gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men, leveraging channels established under the regional response to HIV, to disseminate information and guidance to raise awareness about transmission, symptoms and how to care of oneself when diagnosed with the disease.

And while global supplies remain very limited, PAHO’s Revolving Fund, at the request of countries, has secured 130,000 doses of third-generation monkeypox vaccines with manufacturer Bavarian Nordic for countries and territories in Latin America and the Caribbean, Dr. Espinal said.

Mass vaccination is not recommended, but this tool can be helpful in preventing infection post-exposure.

“We have the opportunity to stop, or significantly reduce, monkeypox transmission in our region but actions must start at the level of countries,” the PAHO Director for Health Emergencies Ciro Ugarte, added. “PAHO can help countries make use of all available tools to intensify the response.”
