Nicki Minaj and Spice Fans Pick Apart Shenseea Tweet Over Fine 9 Snub

Black Immigrant Daily News

Nicki Minaj and Spice fans have turned their attention to Shenseea over a single tweet. Some folks are questioning why the Jamaican singer wasn’t featured on Nicki Minaj’s new Caribbean girl power anthem.

Fans of Dancehall Queen Spice are calling Shenseea “jealous” and shady after she was left off of Nicki Minaj’s remix “The Fine 9 Likkle Miss” remix. Minaj dropped the remix last Friday as a surprise track featuring Trinidadian artists Destra Garcia and Patrice Roberts and Jamaican dancehall artists Lisa Mercedez, Pamputtae, Lady Leshurr, Dovey Magnum, Spice, and London Hill.

On Sunday, Shenseea shared a tweet that seemed to stir up an ants nest. “I’m glad I don’t kiss a**!” the artist wrote on Twitter. Many of Spice’s fans who commented on the post seemed to think that Shenseea was subbing Spice, although the two artists appeared to not have any conflicts in recent times.

“Jealousy is a disease and you’ll die slow you’re not genuine, and you’re a HATER. That’s why you’ll continue to flop, doesn’t matter how light your skin is you’re still a LOOOOSERRRR!! AH HASAA YOU MAD DOGGY???” one fan commented under her tweet.

A Spice updates page also added, “Sis is mad that @NICKIMINAJ didn’t put her on the likkle miss (fine 9) remix.”

Another Spice fan added, “She’s not in a happy place and it shows. She thought she would be like Sean Paul and Shaggy by this, but sadly she’s is no where. Even Lady Saw admit it. BTW Remember to stream EMANCIPATED.”

“Spice lives in your head tent free,” another said.

Shenseea has not responded to the trolls, but she has shared that she has been working. She recently released the visuals for her song “Obsessed” with Calvin Harris and also shared that she has been busy in the studio creating magic for fans.

“I got so much music that aint out yet, its crazy,” she wrote in another tweet.

Shenseea is known to be unbothered when it comes to addressing drama and has never acknowledged or responded to drama from Spice or her fans. Years ago, Shenseea had said in an interview that many female artists in the dancehall space did not want to collaborate with her.

She has gone on to be featured by Kanye West and DJ Khaled and has worked with Megan Thee Stallion, among others. This year, Shenseea was nominated for four Grammy awards and a VMA.

Spice, on the other hand, has not acknowledged her fans’ tweets. The artist has been busy in Canada, where she performed her verse on “The Fine 9” remix for the first time publicly.

A UPP government will suspend, audit, then dissolve NAMCO, Lovell announces

Lovell

In an address to the nation last night United Progressive Party leader Harold Lovell has announced that he will dissolve the government’s main investment mechanism the National Asset Management Company.

“NAMCO is the people’s investment company, and the Jolly Beach property stands to become an asset of the people, as well.

Accordingly, the people DESERVE TO KNOW what deal this Administration has entered into on our behalf, and the Freedom of Information Act entitles us to know. And one final statement on NAMCO. NAMCO is not transparent, provides another needless layer of bureaucracy and doesn’t serve a useful purpose.

The UPP will suspend, audit, then dissolve NAMCO and pursue a more relevant private sector led development strategy; we will EMPOWER Antiguans and Barbudans by selling them the shares of existing companies owned by NAMCO.

Any funds currently held in NAMCO will be transferred to the consolidated fund.

It is important for the people to be able to trust that the Government is making decisions in our best interest, and at this time – sadly – distrust and disillusion are the order of the day.

Our prospects for the future are dim under this Administration. And no amount of rant, rave or rancour will change the fact that, under the ALP Government, there have been virtually NO new investments and our country has regressed by decades.

It is time… for a change.”

Dancehall Legend Pliers Salutes ‘Murder She Wrote’ Actress Angela Lansbury

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

One of the most popular tunes made by the dynamic duo, Chaka Demus and Pliers, was inspired by the hugely popular Angela Lansbury series Murder She Wrote. The track, which shared the same name, dominated the airwaves in the Caribbean from the time it was released in 1992 and beyond.

It appeared on their album Bam Bam it’s Murder. Beloved British actress Lansbury died peacefully at her Los Angeles home on Tuesday. She was 96. It’s no wonder that the show inspired the track considering its long-spanning run time and the fact that many in the Caribbean loved the show as well. It aired on the CBS Network from 1984 through 1996.

Pliers spoke with the Observer and admitted to loving the show when he was much younger. He also said he found Lansbury to be a very sound actress. He added that he believed she lived a full life before he extended condolences to her family, friends, and fans.

Pliers shared how he came up with the hook for the successful track that still features in some clubs and parties. He was very young and placed his age somewhere between 18 and 19. At that time, he was at a mechanic shop and heard a friend of his deejaying the lines: ‘Murder She Wrote, Murder She Wrote.’

“I had written my song already but it was not yet recorded, but when I heard the breddin, I said to myself: ‘That would fit my punchline’. So I changed my song around… instead of deejaying it, I sang it. Mi breddin used to watch Murder She Wrote too,” he continued.

It was definitely a bolt of inspiration that hit him as the track went on to become a certified gold record in the United Kingdom and was the track that gave the duo a taste of global success.

The track peaked at No. 57 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1992, No. 39 on the publication’s R&B table, and No. 5 on the Hot Rap Songs chart. It did well in England and reached No. 27 on the British charts. The track also opened up a new pathway for them, as many of the singles they released after did well.

The “Tease Me” deejay also shared that at the time of its rise, in any country the pair visited, they would hear “Murder She Wrote” playing.

“I went to Russian about 1995-96 and was surprised at a concert we were performing when I heard everybody singing the song word fi word; Dubai, anywhere, everywhere. It’s not a joke song. The song will help keep Angela Lansbury memory alive,” he shared.

Just a short while ago, Pitchfork named Chaka Demus and Pliers’ “Murder She Wrote” No. 92 in their list of 250 Best Songs of The 1990s.

Lansbury eventually got wind of the song many years later in 2019, during a CBS interview, according to Billboard. She excitedly told the host that she was thrilled to be part of reggae.

Lansbury was also well-known for her career on Broadway, which included the musicals Mame and Gypsy, and she also sang the theme song for the animated movie Beauty and the Beast.

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Guadeloupe FranceAntilles

Amid big challenges, Constable Owen Graham finds hope in his new home Loop Jamaica

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Jamaica News Loop News

When Constable Owen Graham responded to a call while on duty in December 2019, he had no idea that his life would change forever.

As fate would have it, the vehicle in which the officer was travelling was involved in a crash, leaving his colleague dead and him being paralysed from the waist down.

The incident has left the 27-year-old devastated, in that it caused him to feel like a prisoner in his abode, where his father, two sisters and spouse also reside.

The house, which he explained was not retrofitted to address his disability needs, made it next to impossible to move without being lifted.

The Clarendon native said he now has something to look forward to after being selected for one of the 30 detached two-bedroom units at Roseneath Park Development in St Catherine under the National Housing Trust’s (NHT) Special Home Grant Allotment Policy.

The development, which is approximately one kilometres from Old Harbour town centre, has been retrofitted to improve access, functionality and comfort for the young constable.

Equipped with the installation of grab bars in the bathroom, access ramps, customised shower design and kitchen cupboards, Constable Graham said he is “looking forward for better, because this really gives me peace of mind. I am truly grateful to the NHT.”

Graham is one of the first beneficiaries of the grant, which saw an additional $2.55 million in modification, which also includes a change from drywall to reinforced concrete walls to facilitate the installation of the related accessories, as well as the construction of a reinforced concrete slab with a minimum of four feet wide around the perimeter of the unit.

The NHT has moved towards a new policy on subsidies where persons with disabilities who are beneficiaries of units, will be identified early in the construction process to facilitate personalised modifications to their units. This will be at no additional cost to the beneficiaries, and are to be in place prior to occupancy.

In addition, the Special Grant for Persons with Disabilities has been doubled to $300,000.

By doubling the grant, individuals will be more equipped to upgrade their homes to meet their special needs. The advantage to the recipient is there immediate, rather than over the term of a mortgage.

“Small things are now big. Before, I could move all 10 toes without thinking. (Now) moving just one toe right now would be almost years of accomplishment,” Graham said with a chuckle.

Though a life-altering experience, he remains positive, adding that the prospect of homeownership has been a welcomed move, which has aided with the optimistic outlook.

“I am grateful for the NHT because this incident could have caused me to have a mental breakdown… Persons who end up with a disability tend to think that life is over, but once you tell your mind everything will be fine, then things change.

“Getting this house has given me hope as I look forward to a brand new life,” he stated.

Netflix sets US$7 monthly price for its ad-supported service Loop Jamaica

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Jamaica News Loop News

Netflix next month will unveil the first version of its video streaming service with ads, giving cost-conscious viewers a chance to watch most of its shows at a steep discount in exchange for putting up with commercial interruptions.

The ad-supported service is scheduled to debut November 3 as Netflix tries to reverse a drop in subscribers. It will cost $7 per month in the US, a 55 per cent markdown from Netflix’s most popular US $15.50-per-month plan, which is ad-free.

Netflix’s ad-supported option will also be rolling out in Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Spain, and the UK, according to a Thursday post by the company’s chief operating officer, Greg Peters.

Besides putting up with roughly four to five minutes of ads during each hour of viewing, Netflix subscribers who sign up for the cheaper service also won’t be able to download TV shows and movies to watch when their devices are offline. Peters also said a “limited” amount of programming available on the commercial-free service won’t be on the ad-supported version because of licensing issues.

Netflix’s 15-year-old streaming service has until now been commercial free, but the Los Gatos, California, company decided to head in a new direction six months ago after reporting its first loss in subscribers in more than a decade.

The customer erosion worsened a wrenching decline in its stock price that has wiped up more than US$200 billion in shareholder wealth during the past 11 months. The shares rallied after Thursday’s announcement, but still have lost about two-thirds of their value since reaching their peak last November when the streaming service was still growing.

Through the first half of this year, Netflix lost 1.2 million subscribers, leaving it with nearly 221 million.

Management in July predicted it would regain about 1 million of those subscribers during the summer months. The numbers for the July-September period are scheduled to be disclosed Tuesday.

Netflix is betting the low-priced option with ads will be particularly popular at a time that persistently high inflation is pressuring millions of households to curb their spending, particularly on discretionary items such as video streaming.

The streaming market also has become crowded with tougher competition from the likes of Amazon, Apple and Walt Disney Co, which also is preparing to offer an ad-supported version of its service soon.
