Prosecution alleges witness and evidence tampering, opposes bail for Noel Maitland

Noel Maitland, the policeman accused of killing his girlfriend, social media influencer Donna-Lee Donaldson, has been slapped with a second charge in connection with her disappearance.

The police constable, who had previously been charged with murder, was also charged with preventing the burial of a corpse when he was brought before the Home Circuit Court on Tuesday.

Maitland, who is also a music producer, is currently before the court, where his attorneys are making a bail application.

However, amid opposition and allegations from the prosecution about witness and evidence tampering, his bail application was stood down until after 2pm for the defence team to examine information revealed to them during the hearing Tuesday.

The prosecution alleged that Maitland has already tried to get a security guard that works at the apartment where he lives to lie to the police and have evidence destroyed, namely “the bloody couch” that was at his apartment.

It is further alleged that he has made contact with other witnesses to inquire about the state of the police investigation.

The prosecution alleged that Maitland’s accomplices are still at large and that he pressured a neighbour to delete CCTV footage.

Maitland’s attorney Christopher Townsend said that the defence team was not aware of the prosecution’s allegations about witness and evidence tampering. He, therefore, asked the court for some time to get the information from the prosecution.

The presiding judge said that the bail application must be completed today.

The matter was adjourned until after two Tuesday afternoon.

Donaldson was reportedly last seen with Maitland and was reported missing on July 13. The police believe she is dead, but her body has not been found despite their efforts.

Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne is committed to continuously helping his fellow citizens in the months leading up to the Caribbean nation’s next general election next year.

The political leader is focusing on increasing and improving the educational opportunities that are being offered to his country’s residents, both at home and abroad.

Prime Minister Browne is offering economic aid to five students from Antigua and Barbuda who are interested in studying law in the U.S.

The students will each receive a scholarship to American Heritage Law School in California, in association with businessman Alki David’s CBD wellness brand, Swissx. All applicants must apply for the scholarship to the Los Angeles-based law school on Swissx’s official website.

In addition to his duties helping his fellow citizens as Antigua and Barbuda’s prime minister, Browne also has a channel on Swissx TV, on which he posts videos and tweets about his responsibilities as a political leader. Farewell held for Hazel Brown, ‘tireless advocate for women’

HAZEL BROWN was not universally admired. Some viewed the civil-rights activist as a controversial figure, her son Garvin Brown said, because she was steadfast and unwavering in her principles, and she was unapologetic about it.

Brown’s son, the only boy among her four children delivered one of several tributes at her funeral at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Port of Spain, on Tuesday morning. She was later buried at Lapeyrouse Cemetary.

Brown, who was best known for fighting women’s causes, died at 80 at her home in Diamond Vale, Diego Martin, on September 22.

Garvin Brown said losing a mother was like swimming in the ocean.

“It can be calm,” he said, “or it can be overwhelming. All you can do is learn to swim.”

He said his mother was the most crucial figure in his development, particularly since his father, Herman Brown, died when he was young, leaving his mother widowed. He described her as selfless, doing her activism for the advancement of those marginalised and not for personal glory.

Brown also leaves three daughters, Justice Carla Brown-Antoine, Leah Brown and Natasha Nunez, all of whom excelled academically and in their various careers. She is also survived by her sisters Carol and Gemma Brown, and her eight grandchildren.

Brown was one of 14 founding members of the Network of NGOs for the Advancement of Women, an organisation invested in promoting respect and value for women as equals and able partners in establishing the values of equity, democracy, social justice and respect for human rights.

She was one of the main drivers of the Network’s Put a Woman project, a non-partisan project funded by the Commonwealth Foundation and UN Democracy Fund, designed to prepare women and young people to participate in local and general elections.

Brown was also a former secretary general of the Commonwealth Women’s Network, which connected women in 52 countries, and held many other portfolios at organisations concerned with consumer affairs and minimum wage.

Brown, along with Asha Kambon, who delivered a tribute, was a trustee at the Network at the time of her death. The Network’s co-ordinator Jacquie Burgess also paid respect to her long-time colleague. Both Kambon and Burgess celebrated Brown’s total commitment to every endeavour she undertook.

She was described as a “go-to person” for comment from the media for her views, and one who would still offer her views via press release even if they were not asked for.

Nunez, delivering the eulogy, said while it is normal for children to bury their parents, she felt a sense of regret because her mother’s work was not quite complete.

Nunez said her mother intended to write a memoir, record a podcast, and had various other plans.

From Nairobi to Delhi to Geneva, Nunez said, her mother was vastly travelled.

“There is no doubt she belonged to the world,” she said.

Nunez said her mother was as rigid at home as she was with her activism and she found it challenging living up to their mother’s high expectations of her children.

Collections were taken at the funeral for the Cancer Society and the Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

Saint Lucia is bracing for another wet week after several weather systems dumped rainfall on the Island over the past few days.

An inter-topical convergence zone and an upper-level trough have already impacted the country.

And Director of Meteorological Services Andre Joyeux has disclosed that a surface trough in the region is causing some cloudiness, showers and thunderstorms.

In addition, Joyeux told St Lucia Times that Tuesday night into Wednesday, Saint Lucia will experience the effects of a tropical wave.

“There’s a low chance of it developing so we would expect the usual tropical wave conditions – some extra cloudiness, showers and thunderstorms,” he explained.

Joyeux noted that since Saint Lucia has been experiencing so much rainfall, residents should remain vigilant.

“The soil is already waterlogged and we expect that some land slippage could occur during the passage of that tropical wave,” the Meteorological Services Director observed.

Gov’t and China talk national stadium; Jan 2024 deadline for Phase 1 Loop Barbados

The Republic of China is still very committed to working with the Government of Barbados on redeveloping the National Stadium.

This was emphasised during a meeting at Ilaro Court last Wednesday, where Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley along with officials from the National Sports Council and other government entities discussed ways to deliver the project in the shortest time frame with Chinese Ambassador Yan Xiusheng, and his delegation.

Prime Minister Mottley, stressing the need for a stadium by the next track season and before the 2024 Olympics in Paris, highlighted the country’s recent success on the world athletic stage.

She proposed that the construction be carried out in phases and suggested that in phase one, the athletic’s track, football field and three stands should be completed by January 2024 with the remaining work on the other stands in phase two, to be completed between April 2024 and January 2025.

“The reality is that we have to do it in phases…and because we value our relationship with China, we are prepared to sit down and make it happen. But I need you all to go and meet. If we provide the design and you provide the demolition, then we can see how quickly the stadium can be built and how we can work collaboratively to meet these deadlines,” Mottley stated.

Further acknowledging that Barbados needed to be able to participate in the Olympics in 2024, she said: “We need to be able to have our trials as we call them and then in April, May, we can resume.”

Ambassador Yan, noting that China would “do everything possible” to facilitate the first phase of the national stadium, said: “I can assure you that by January 2024, the first phase will be completed.”

21 Savage Confronts Wack 100 For Accusing Him Of Snitching On YSL

21 Savage got into an angry confrontation with Wack 100 after he made claims that Savage was a police informant who “snitched” on Young Thug in his ongoing racketeering case.

While on Clubhouse together, Wack 100 got angry at 21 Savage after he said he called him the f word and called 21 a “rat” and said that he snitched on Thug. Young Thug is currently awaiting trial for violating Georgia’s racketeering statute and gun and drug charges in a sweeping indictment.

“There be a lot of shit going on, and I don’t speak on it,” 21 told Wack during the call. “I done seen you go through real-life shit and I don’t speak on it, I don’t make fun of it, I don’t speculate about it. Just give me the same respect, gang!”

When Wack asked what he meant, 21 added, “You calling me a snitch, man! Bruh, you on the internet saying you think I’m an informant, gang. Come on, man!”

Wack 100, known for his controversial comments and ability to stir up drama, manages clients like 6ix9ine, The Game, and Blueface. At the time of his outburst, he appeared to be upset at a woman whom he threatened to come for her life and said he had recordings of her.

Wack explained that the District Attorney in Fulton County, Georgia, had claimed that a prominent rapper was an informant as he questioned how 21 Savage’s immigration case seemed to be working out, although it is well-known that Jay-Z and the Roc Nation legal team had stepped in to help the rapper and stop him from being deported.

“The D.A. in Atlanta said it’s a well-known rapper who’s telling. You get caught and get threatened to get sent out the country ’cause you ain’t a real citizen; we gotta figure out your sh*t,” Wack said.

21 Savage said there was nothing fishy about his immigration case, especially as he has a gun case from 2021 that could incentivize him to cooperate with authorities.

“Man, come on, bruh, what the hell you talking about?!” 21 Savage said. “What the f**k, bruh?! Goddamn, triple OG! I can’t go to court for immigration if I got an open gun case, fool.”

Wack 100 continues to press 21 further. “Did you give up Thug or nah? What’s going on? Thug bought you a brand new truck,” Wack 100 said.

21 Savage declared he was leaving the conversation as Wack 100 wanted to go viral: “Man, you trying to use me for content! I’m gone, man. I’m gone,” before abruptly leaving the session.

“You is content, you rat-ass n****a,” Wack snapped even after Savage left. “You’s a rat, n***a. You told on Thug, n***a. F**k up outta here.”

Wack 100 and 21 Savage aren’t friends. Wack previously threatened to put hands on Savage after he called him ‘lame’ in an Akademiks podcast last year.
