France: Lloris (cap.) – Pavard, Konaté, Upamecano, L. Hernandez – Tchouaméni, Rabiot – Dembélé, Griezmann, Mbappé – Giroud

Sélectionneur: Didier Deschamps (FRA)

Australie: Ryan (cap.) – Atkinson, Souttar, Rowles, Behich – McGree, Mooy, Irvine – Leckie, Duke, Goodwin

Sélectionneur: Graham Arnold (AUS)

Arbitre: Victor Gomes (RSA)

Teenage climate activists in Nigeria’s largest city are recycling trash into runway outfits for a “Trashion Show”.

Chinedu Mogbo, the founder of Greenfingers Wildlife Initiative, a conservation group working with the activists, said the show was designed to raise awareness about environmental pollution.

Lagos, one of Africa’s most populous cities with more than 15 million people, generates at least 12,000 metric tons of waste daily, authorities say.

And implementation of environmental laws is poor: The World Bank estimates that pollution kills at least 30,000 people in this city every year.

This year’s show came just as world leaders wrapped up two weeks of UN climate talks in Egypt.

In collaboration with young activists and models, the Greenfingers Wildlife Initiative says it’s out to recycle as many plastics as possible, one community at a time.

It organizes regular trash clean-ups across communities, at drainage ditches and beaches. The plastic litter is then used to create fabrics for the fashion show.

Draped in red plastic spoons and fabric, 16-year-old Nethaniel Edegwa said she joined this year’s edition as a model “to make a change.”

“We can see that we are all being affected by climate change, so I really want to make a difference,” Edegwa said.

A True Blue Ocean Adventure – Antigua Bermuda Race 2023

Black Immigrant Daily News

Start: May 9th 2023 – Antigua to Bermuda

After a three-year Covid hiatus, registration is now open and preparations are full steam ahead for the fourth edition of the Antigua Bermuda Race starting from Antigua on May 9th, 2023.

The 935nm oceanic race is managed by the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club in association with Antigua Sailing Week, and supported by the Bermuda Tourism Authority and Goslings Rum.

The race is designed to suit a wide range of yachts and crew, with memorable parties, both in Antigua and Bermuda.

After leaving Antigua the fleet pass Barbuda and will be out of sight of land until the finish in Bermuda.

The race is an experience of about 1,000 miles of tropical Atlantic sailing – a true blue ocean adventure.

Sailing in the deep, competitors will experience reaching conditions in warm oceanic swell and a magical night sky.

Meg Reilly, a three-time competitor in Canadian Pogo 12.50 Hermes, has said: “The first few days of the race are basically a guaranteed sleigh ride with reaching in the trade-winds.

The approach to Bermuda tends to be more strategic sailing in lighter winds.”

The race is open to IRC and CSA Racing Yachts, Cruiser Racers, Super Yachts, and Multihulls. Classic yachts and double-handed teams have their own category, and a secondary motor sailing handicap in the CSA Classes, allows yachts to use their engines and still get a result, subject to a time penalty.

The Antigua Bermuda Race is timed to coincide with the end of Antigua Sailing Week when many yachts are planning to sail north back to North America, or east from Bermuda across the Atlantic Ocean.

With the high current ocean freight rates, the Antigua Bermuda Race offers a great option to take your boat north out of the Caribbean in a safe, economic and highly enjoyable way.

The 2023 Notice of Race has now been released on the event website.

The online survey of interest is now open. Whole Boat race charters with an owner’s rep should be available, as well as Head Boats (race charters) offering individual crew places on a competing boat – a great way to experience the event and meet new people.

Boodram recalls Paria tragedy at CoE

KEEPING his colleagues calm was one of the most difficult things Christopher Boodram, the lone survivor of the Paria Fuel Trading, Pointe-a-Pierre diving tragedy, has ever experienced.

Boodram, 34, a Scuba diver with 12 years’ experience, wiped away tears and frequently paused to compose himself, as he recalled the harrowing events which led to the deaths of fellow divers and friends, Kazim Ali Jr, Fyzal Kurban, Yusuf Henry and Rishi Nagassar in February.

Boodram relayed and confirmed his statements signed on October 19, ahead of the hearings of the commission of enquiry into the incident, currently taking place at Tower D of the Port of Spain International Waterfront Centre.

All four divers were employees of Land and Marine Construction Services (LMCS), which, together with Paria, is facing scrutiny from the commission.

The commission on Monday revealed that the four divers were not certified for commercial diving.

“I made up my mind I was to die, for (a) third time,” Boodram said at the hearing,

Boodram said he prayed for and with the divers when hopes of survival decreased.

“I say, ‘God, I coming. Ma, look out for me.’ I was expecting to be dead there.

“All of a sudden, I’m out the water, catch a breath, was in a state of panic, realising that I’m in the pipe, I just now almost dead. I not even sure if I alive, if I in hell or heaven.”

Regiment-issued ammo used in 2 shootings in Point Fortin

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Trinidad and Tobago Newsday

File photo –

FOR the second time in as many days, an attempt was made on the life of Point Fortin safety officer Jameson Samuel on Monday night.

Over 130 bullets were fired at Samuel’s home on Sunday and Monday. One of his cousins was injured in Sunday morning’s shooting incident. Samuel escaped unhurt.

Some of the casings and ammunition recovered had the markings used on the arms of the TTR (Trinidad and Tobago Regiment).

Police are investigating how shell casings for the TTR, and for an Israeli Military Industries (IMI) weapon they said the Government once acquired for use by the protective services, found their way to the crime scene.

Over 73 spent shells were recovered from Monday’s shooting and 62 from Sunday’s.

According to a report, around 2.30 am on Sunday, Jamir Greenidge, 34, of Fanny Village, Point Fortin, was asleep at the Techier Village home of Samuel, his cousin, when he was shot.

Greenidge was asleep on a mattress on the floor in the living room, and only later realised he had been shot in the buttocks.

Police were contacted and Greenidge was taken to the Point Fortin Hospital, where he was treated.

In the incident on Monday night, police reports said Samuel, 40, a safety officer also known as “Yankee,” was in the gallery of his home around 9.50 pm, when he saw two men dressed in grey hoodies approaching.

The men, who were armed with assault rifles, started shooting at Samuel, who ducked and ran inside his house.

He was not injured, but multiple bullet holes were left in his house and a neighbour’s house. The gunmen escaped in a white Toyota Corolla.

The Point Fortin police were notified and WPC Williams and PC Ramesar responded, along with the South Western Division Task Force (SWDTF).

Crime scene investigators found 73 spent 5.56 shell casings, nine spent 9mm shell casings, two live rounds of 9mm ammunition with the markings TTR, and 7 live rounds of 9mm ammunition.

On Sunday, police seized 62 spent 5.56 IMI shell casings, along with ten live rounds of 9mm ammunition and 14 spent 9mm ammunition shell casings, all with “TTR” engraved on them. They believe the IMI ammunition may have been old ammunition that is now being sold to criminals.

W/Sgt Johnson Brewster is investigating.
