Police High Commands backs lawful use of force amid attacks on cops Loop Jamaica

Black Immigrant Daily News

While indicating that a total of six police officers have been killed by gunmen since the start of this year, Police Commissioner, Major General Antony Anderson, has declared that law enforcers have the full backing of the Police High Command to take lawful use of force against criminals.

“I’m reminding my men and women that they need to be aware of their surroundings on and off duty,” Anderson urged law enforcers at a police press conference on Tuesday.

“Members are also being reminded that they have the full backing of the Police High Command in the lawful use of force as is necessary to defend themselves, their colleagues, and citizens against any attack,” he declared.

His comments come on the heels of Tuesday morning’s shooting and injury of a police officer in front of the Central Police Station in Kingston.

Two other policemen were, however, shot and killed in less than a week in October.

Speaking on the latest attack on Tuesday, the commissioner said the officer was shot at by two persons on a motorcycle.

“Thankfully, he managed to take evasive action, returned fire, and has been treated at the hospital,” Anderson informed.

Overall, he said it was his desire for the police to win “every single time” they come in armed combat with hoodlums, and then go home to their families.

However, two lawmen – 22-year-old Constable Brian Martin, who was shot dead by gunmen on Saturday, October 15; and 43-year-old Corporal Oliver Mullings, who was slain by hoodlums on Thursday, October 20 – were killed and didn’t make it home.

In relation to Mullings’ family, Anderson said: “The wounds of grief are still fresh, with only in October of 2020 that the mother of his daughter – a sergeant stationed in St Catherine South – left out for duty and perished in a traffic accident.”

Meanwhile, Anderson disclosed that since the start of this year, six policemen have been killed in the course of their duties.

“This is the same figure as at this time last year, but additionally, there have been three members who have been shot and seriously injured during confrontations with gunmen,” he said.

“There are many who have a lot to say about the police use of force.

“The problem is that none of these people are out there on the frontlines being shot at. It is far easier to opine about these things from positions of safety,” Anderson insisted.

WASA aims to improve Tobago supply as reservoirs filled

Black Immigrant Daily News

WASA’s Tobago region head Brian Williams, left, and Jiselle Webster, communications and customer engagement manager, at a WASA press conference in Lowlands on Tuesday. –

Tobago’s water reservoirs are said to be “filled and spilling.”

At a press conference on Tuesday at the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) Regional Complex in Lowlands, Senior Manager of Project Implementation Andrew Daniel made the disclosure.

October was a rainy month for the island, particularly last week.

“All of our reservoirs – Hillsborough and the King’s Bay reservoirs, they are both filled and spilling at this point in time, ” Daniel said. “So we are at a 100 per cent capacity, but of course, you must understand that those reservoirs don’t serve the entire island, they only serve certain areas, villages within the island itself.”

Head of WASA, Tobago Region, Brian Williams added that the authority is currently on a mission to ensure that adequate water supply is always readily available. He said one of the elements of the development programme is to create an integrated network.

“Courland water is only feeding Courland, so what we are working on is a network integrating the transmission grid so that we can import/ export from neighbouring zones when the need is required, or to take from areas of plenty, to serve areas of few.”

He noted that there are two major challenges with water supply on the island.

“We have the dry season challenges and we have rainy season challenges. All the customer is usually interested in is that when I turn on my pipe, I get some water – so we have to manage it on the back end.

“There is a shortage in the dry season, but in the rainy season there is an unavailability issue because of the challenges with the treatment.”

He said the island is challenged by the geography, so the programme also includes the development of booster stations as he made mention of a five-year community water improvement programme, which is already in year one.

“This is aimed at improving the level of service to customers in a very targeted way.”

He said it has been recognised that in order for the organisation to improve, there are several infrastructural works that must be undertaken.

He said these have been grouped into projects, to maximise the effectiveness of the process.

Questioned about timelines, he said the programme was developed and the works have already begun.

“It is an ongoing process, but we have targeted the next five years and we have just come to the end of year one. So the initiatives and the benefits that we are speaking to in this moment are the year-one initiatives.”

The programme, he said, is comprehensive. “In terms of the implementation of the items of work – development construction – it is well under way at this point. We’ve passed the planning stages and some of the other stages, we’re working to ensure that as time progresses, that we would be able to have them all implemented and redound to the benefit of the water supply to everybody in Tobago and the wider Trinidad and Tobago.”

Saweetie Says She Is Dropping 2 New Albums By End Of 2022

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Saweetie says that her long-awaited album will be dropping at the end of this year, and she is also teasing that a bonus project is set for release ahead of her album called The Single Life, which will address her post-breakup journey from Migos rapper Quavo.

The artist did not share the release date for her album, Pretty B*tch Music, which was initially set for release earlier this year but has since been pushed back to the end of 2022. However, According to Rolling Stone, the rapper recently celebrated the launch of The Single Life with Jack Daniels.

The “Icy Grl” rapper has had a long relationship with Jack Daniels and noted that she loved the brand because “they allow me to do me.” Saweetie, who appeared on Caresha Please last month but did not speak about her breakup with Quavo, says that she’s ready to speak about her dating life and post-breakup.

“I’m excited to share what I went through,” She said. “I think as I was making it, I was more proud to be single. Because I realized that I was growing, I realized that I was elevating. And I realized that I was becoming a better woman,” she says. “It was definitely revolutionary. It was heartbreaking. It was honest. It was a reflection. It’s just me being Saweetie in full transparency,” she disclosed.

Saweetie isn’t the only one speaking about the breakup. Rapper Quavo also re-enacted the famous elevator fight scene between himself and Saweetie in his latest track, “Messy,” featuring the late Takeoff.

Saweetie IG @saweetie

Quavo’s lyrics appear to hint that Saweetie had cheated on him. It’s unclear if Saweetie will speak about those rumors that allege that she slept with Quavo’s cousin Offset, which later saw the men having a falling out. For now, Saweetie says she’s enjoying singlehood and healing.

“If you can’t be by yourself, I think it’s a reflection of how you feel internally,” she says. “Like if you need to look for external sources to feel good internally, then I think that there needs to be a lot of shadow work and self-work done.”

She added that being single also helped her to create better music.

“I realized that I wasn’t writing from an honest standpoint when I first started because I wasn’t that vulnerable. I was very closed off,” she says. “I was raised to be strong, to be tough and not show any weakness.”

As for the date for the new album, Saweetie said, “she’s still in the womb, I haven’t popped her out. I want to thank my fans for patiently waiting. It’s been a year. It’s been a while. I’ve been recording officially for a year, non-stop.”

Earlier this year, Saweetie revealed that she had decided to record new songs and even hinted that after doing her album, she was not satisfied and decided to work and record some more before deciding on what the final tracks will be.
