Nia Long says she is very single at the moment despite rumors she is dating Omarion.

The actress and the R&B singer went viral this week after posing for a photo on the red carpet of the premiere of her new Netflix movie You People. Not only did they pose for a candid photo, but Nia Long also held Omarion’s hand, leaving him laughing like a child in a candy store. The former B2K singer later shared the seven seconds clip on his Twitter account, sending his fans into a frenzy.

After a few days, the story still dominated the headlines, which perhaps prompted Nia Long to comment on it. In a comment on TSR, she told folks to chill because she remains very much single.

“Everybody simmer down… I’m single AF, she commented.

Her comment was enough to illicit a reaction from Bow Wow, who wrote, “Lets go @omarion Lock that door champ.”

DJ Aone also left a comment saying, “Oh we know you single! That hand pull said you was ready to mingle!”

Considering Omarion is 14 years younger than Long, some fans thought it would have been a win on his part if he had bagged the iconic Best Man actress. Nia Long is fresh out of a 13-year relationship with Ime Udonka, who cheated on her and was fired from his coaching gig at the Boston Celtics NBA team. The former couple has an 11-year-old son name Kez, while Nia also has a 22-year-old name Massai from a previous relationship.

Omarion, whose current relationship status is unknown, dated the mother of his children, Apryl Jones, for several years before parting ways. Jones is currently dating Nia Long’s Best Man co-star Taye Diggs.

Nia is certainly single, but she hasn’t said if she is ready to mingle.

Blueface Denies He’s The Father Of Chrisean Rock’s Baby After Pregnancy Announcement

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Urban Islandz

Chrisean Rock says she’s pregnant as she shared several positive pregnancy tests and excitedly told her thousands of fans that she is keeping the baby after having three abortions for Blueface in the past.

Last month there were speculations that Rock might be pregnant as she was seen refusing alcohol and conducting herself in a better manner. However, the past month has become more toxic drama between the ‘Crazy in Love’ cast members, and it appears that they’ve broken up.

On Friday night, the two appeared to have a continuation of an argument despite Rock apologizing for having a mental health episode the day before.

Blueface and Chrisean Rock began arguing after he called out her fans for supporting her irrational behavior, which included kicking a TV during a No Jumper interview.

“Alcohol isn’t her problem her mentality is her problem all you people on here making excuses for a lack of self control an irrational behavior is contributing to the problem #accountability,” Blueface wrote.

The rapper added that fans’ claims that he provokes Chrisean are false as she has deep issues without him.

“When she displays this type of irrational behavior on baddies or blue girls club you guys applaud an cheer but when it’s a different setting an it doesn’t look as good you guys want it to be everybody else fault this is how she carry herself with or without me,” he said.

Chrisean Rock/Instagram

Blueface celebrated his birthday on January 20, and shortly after telling fans that he would be taking the day off to celebrate, Rock sent a curious tweet.

“Happy Birthday Baby Daddy,” she said.

Blueface later replied that their relationship was over and denied that she was carrying his child.

“To answer y’all questions yes me an rock are officially done it’s strictly business I tried it an clearly it wasn’t giving before she announces… she’s pregnant with somebody else’s child not mine.”

Blueface added a series of tweets denying he was the father.

Chrisean Rock has had encounters with ten different men in the last year until I see DNA test, then it’s not mine,” he said in one tweet.

“I know I know y’all thought she was all about me…me too lol but the facts are facts being my BM would be a blessing… She must be currently drinking while pregnant that’s a red flag,” he added.

The rapper also appears to beg God to let it not be his child.

On the other hand, Rock denied that she had cheated on Blueface and said she would gladly supply him with a DNA test and that she wanted to keep the child because she had aborted many pregnancies before.

“So what happens wen you eat all ya evil words … I haven’t sexually been active with no one but u n plus there’s can a DNA test… n ion need yo money I got my own I don’t need a baby Daddy I’m just having this child because I don’t want to keep aborting.”

“Blue tred lightly God don’t like ugly fr. Boy, I don’t need you lol I want u that’s the difference…Promise you. I don’t need a cent from u . Then wen we do a DNA test and it’s yours just know I’ll tell my children you died so u wouldn’t have a exuse to be in the child’s life. This my baby n dats dat,” she replied to him.

Rock later posted three positive pregnancy tests where she added a caption, “guess how many heartbeats.”

Rock also went back on Instagram, where she shared a video at the hospital where she did a pregnancy test.

“I really put the news out because I want all the bad stuff to do it course. I’m saying I’m pregnant because I am keeping it,” Rock said.

“You know you’re the dad. I know for sure you’re the dad. I haven’t been sexually active with anybody else but you…who am I to announce the pregnancy and not know the dad?” she added.

In the meantime, her fans corrected her that three pregnancy tests didn’t mean that she was having triplets because a sonogram alone could determine that. In the hospital, Rock said she wanted twins or triplets because of the babies she had aborted before (three).

In the hospital, she said she was hoping it was three heartbeats.

“We’re gonna be a family, and we gon have the big baby shower. So yeah, pray for me,” Rock said.

“When you pregnant, do you hear heartbeat or any beats you have to hear one? Cause I hope I hear three that’s how many I killed,” she told the nurse who was about to do her pregnancy test.

Changes made to St. Kitts and Nevis’ CBI programme to remove loopholes exploited by developers: AG

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Caribbean News Service

Attorney General and Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs Garth Wilkin said his office examined and made effective changes to the Citizenship by Investment (CBI) programme’s legislation on Dec. 23 to remove loopholes exploited by property developers.

During the Prime Minister’s Press Conference on Jan. 18, the Attorney General said, “What developers are required to do now, is that they have to place money received from the sale of real estate units into an escrow account and the administration of the citizenship by investment programme will now monitor the progress of the project such that a developer does not sell 20 units for example and not build anything.”

“What will happen now is that the money will now go into escrow and when the developer has now proved that for example, they have finished a foundation, then a certain amount of money will be released; if they prove that they have reached the roof stage then a certain amount of money will be released,” he said.

The Attorney General stated that there is also a new element of regulations set up to monitor the distribution of units processed.

He said, “For example, if you were a developer and you believe that you can sell 1000 units or 1000 buildings in your real estate project, you will not be given access to sell those 1000 units at the beginning of your project like was done in the past, what you will do is you will be given a certain amount of units, for example, 50, you would be able to put those on the market and until you complete a certain phase of your construction, you will not get the next 50, so there will be a staggered approach to the actual issuance of the units that you can sell on the market.”

He said that all of this was done to prevent what has occurred in the past where real estate developers were selling off plans and building one part of the project and not completing it in its entirety resulting in what he termed “white elephants”.

India offers plethora of collaborative opportunities for Guyana, private sector

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Caribbean News Service

President Irfaan Ali said that India can be seen as an important strategic partner in the development aspirations of the Government and the private sector for the benefit of all Guyanese.

The Head of State made this assertion during a press conference held at State House Wednesday afternoon to discuss the outcome of his seven-day Official Visit to the South Asian country.

The engagements with Indian officials, including the country’s Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, he explained, were in keeping with Guyana’s development trajectory.

He said that the Guyanese delegation, which included Government officials and members of the private sector, “had engagements with some of the leading private sector organisations, companies, industries” and senior members of the Indian Government, “in pursuing a very targeted approach to what we wanted to achieve as a country, and to see how India can be an important strategic partner in the development aspirations of our country, our private sector, and our people”.

AGRICULTURE AND FOOD PRODUCTION

The President said several areas were discussed with Prime Minister Modi, which are aligned with the shared vision and commitment of both countries, but that agriculture and food production was a strong pillar that underpinned the discourse.

“Agriculture and food production is a key element in our development aspirations and a key element of the leadership that we are providing in the region.”

Other major areas discussed with India’s Prime Minister and President were healthcare, including Ayurvedic and wellness, renewable energy, ICT, oil and gas, human resource capacity building, technology and defence.

He added that there was also “tremendous interest” in having close collaboration with Guyana’s agri-food system, the ecosystem surrounding our food production and agriculture, and enhancing the productivity of our agriculture sector, focusing heavily on sugar.

“GuySuCo was a main area that we focused on. Aquaculture is another area that has tremendous opportunities for us and the utilisation of technology to support the increased production and bringing the best production system in our country.”

President Ali said that specific, targeted discussions, were also held in relation to oil and gas and India being part of the development of the sector.

He added that the Indian Government also expressed a “strong interest” in being a long-term purchaser of Guyana’s share of oil.

WORKING GROUPS ESTABLISHED

Stemming from the meeting between the two leaders, it was agreed that two working groups will be formed to move forward with ideas and proposals.

Guyana’s group, which will commence work almost instantaneously, would also include members of the private sector, more so “because there’s a lot of follow up and collaboration that is required from the side of the private sectors”.

Government officials will focus on different areas of development within the working group with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Hugh Todd, coordinating, setting up the mechanism and finalising the terms of reference (TOR).

MOU SIGNING

President Ali indicated that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will soon be signed between the two countries in agriculture.

He said that this would allow India to assess the profitability of the coconut industry, rice, dairy and sugar and other crops.

“They are willing to provide experts to come and work with us, the technology, the equipment to support, improve efficiency, yield and profitability.

He also pointed to an MoU following the engagement with the Bangalore Bioinnovation Centre, which will see the deployment of all the technologies, that have been tested and successful to help develop the Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME) and the agriculture sector in Guyana.

The country is expected to benefit from the Indian company’s expertise in the important areas of agriculture, biotechnology for food and nutrition and environmental biotechnology.

President Ali said that Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo will lead a delegation to India next month to follow up on all the areas outlined.

Antigua Elections: Ruling party holds on to win third consecutive victory

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Caribbean News Service

Prime Minister Gaston Browne led his ruling Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) to a nail-biting victory in Wednesday’s general election, winning nine of the 17 seats for a third consecutive term in office, according to the preliminary results released here early Thursday morning.

The party had won 15 of the 17 seats in the 2018 general election.

“You know I have always said to people, you must always give thanks, no matter how small the blessing and I see this decision as a blessing upon the people of Antigua and Barbuda,” Prime Minister Browne told supporters.

He said the results will give the ABLP government the opportunity to re-align “and also create the opportunity for fresh talent.

“Truth be told, whenever you try to remove incumbents it is very difficult. So when you remove incumbents then it creates the space you could bring in new talent to the organisation, to the government.

“So we do not see this as a bad thing per say, we see it as an opportunity at the same time. However, I want to thank those of my colleagues who would have served this country well over the last eight and a half years and of course we will continue to stand by them, so we will not leave them out in the cold,” Browne told supporters.

Prime Minister Browne, who became the first government leader here to win three consecutive general elections, headed the victorious ABLP candidates, as the main opposition United Progressive Party (UPP) won five additional seats as compared to the solitary seat it had gained in the 2018 general election.

Browne polled 1, 295 votes as against 621 for Alister Thomas of the UPP and Jamel Knight of the Democratic National Alliance (DNA) to win the St. John’s City West seat.

“I want to thank you all very much …I say thank you sincerely from the bottom of my heart. I feel humbled, again to be the first Prime Minister to get three consecutive terms and that is a significant amount of confidence and trust which I shall continue to honour,” Browne told supporters, adding that he would be sworn into office later on Thursday morning at 10.30 (local time) and the cabinet named on Friday.

Browne said he would have signalled to his party that it needed fresh legs and new talent.

“Truth be told after two terms some ministers become lethargic. They do not have the will to fight,” he said, adding that some of “our colleagues did not have the energy to mobilise, you could have seen it at our events, it is something the leadership discussed…

The Democratic National Alliance (DNA) failed to make any impact in the election with its leader, Joanne Massiah polling only 22 votes.

UPP leader Harold Lovell, failed to win the City East seat for a third consecutive time as Information Minister Melford Nicholas held on to win by six votes..

Preliminary figures released by the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) showed that Nicholas, who has defeated the former finance minister on all three occasions, polled 791 votes while Lovell received 785. Leon Smith of the DNA got 13 votes.

In the last general election, Lovell lost by 153 votes. He has since called for a recount.

“If you are going to lead a government, you have to win your seat,” said regional political scientist and pollster, Peter Wickham.

On the sister isle of Barbuda, the Barbuda People’s Movement (BPM), retained the seat with the incumbent, Trevor Walker, comfortably winning against Knacyntar Nedd of the ABLP, according to preliminary results released here on Tuesday.

Walker polled 624 votes to Nedd’s 456 votes.

Among the casualties of the election were Works Minister Lennox Weston, Samantha Marshall, the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Barbuda Affairs, Michael Browne, Minister of the Creative Industries and Innovation and Dean Jonas, the Minister of Social Transformation, Human Resource Development and the Blue Economy.

Jamaica based pollster, Don Anderson, who had conducted several opinion polls prior to the general election, said while the UPP “will do much better than they did in 2018,” it failed to drive home the issues during the campaign.

“The shift we are seeing is a vital one,” Anderson said on a radio programme here, noting however that the shift was not sufficient to drive the UPP home “because they started too far behind”.

Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle, who was the sole UPP legislator in the last Parliament, easily won the All Saints East and St. Luke constituency, defeating Colin James by a margin of 1, 799 to 1,047.

Avory Knight of the DNA polled 52.

The highlight of the election was the victory of independent candidate, Asot Michael, the former government legislator, who had been the parliamentary representative on four occasions, but was had been prevented from contesting the seat on behalf of the ruling party.

Michael had taken his matter to the courts in a bid to get the ABLP to reverse its decision and had even entertained the idea of becoming prime minister if none of the two major parties had failed to win sufficient seats to form the government.

Browne told supporters that Thursday would not be a public holiday to celebrate the victory, adding ” I want to make an appeal to all Antiguans and Barbudans, especially our political opponents to accept the results of the elections.

“Let us come together as a united nation that will fight together in order to advance this country. There will be yet another political cycle some time down the road…but let us cool the rhetoric going forward, let us prioritise the advancement of this country recognising the challenges that we are faced with, and let us not be daunted by the challenges,” he added.

ECLAC proposes cluster policies to escape current low-growth trap in region

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Caribbean News Service
Jos? Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, Executive Secretary of ECLAC, during the 2023 Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF), in Davos (Photo: WEF).

The Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Jos? Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, proposed cluster-based policies as a powerful instrument to promote growth and productive diversification to help pull the region out of the prolonged, development crisis that has impeded high, sustained and sustainable growth in the last decades, except in cases of price bonanzas in primary products.

The United Nations senior official is in Davos, Switzerland for the 2023 World Economic Forum Annual Meeting (WEF) from January 16-20. The 53rd edition brings together the largest number of world political and economic leaders in its history, including more than 50 heads of State or government, 56 finance ministers, 19 central bank presidents, 30 ministers of trade and 35 ministers of foreign affairs, under the slogan “Cooperation in a Fragmented World.”

In his presentation during the “Sustainable Solutions for Latin America” session on Wednesday, January 18, attended by the President of Ecuador, Vice President of the Dominican Republic and distinguished authorities from the public sector, business leaders and academics, ECLAC’s Executive Secretary stressed that productivity has not grown at all in 30 years in Latin America and the Caribbean, the region of the world with the worst productivity performance in the last 40 years. He added that the average rate of growth in the last ten years (from 2014 through 2023, considering the projection of 1.3% growth for this year) is just 0.9%, or less than half the growth the region had in the infamous lost decade of the 1980s.

“Therefore, this decade will be even more lost than the last lost decade. This is the real developmental crisis of Latin America and the Caribbean: the region has failed miserably in promoting technological sophistication, economic complexity and production and export diversification. The result is that all countries are in the medium-income trap,” he stated. As a result, none have even gotten close to the threshold of $20,000 dollars per capita income.

In this context, Salazar-Xirinachs warned that without growth in productivity, prosperity is not sustainable, the creation of jobs and social policies are not sustainable, social mobility is not possible, and without all this, the reduction in inequality and social pacts are at risk.

“We know that there are no easy recipes for achieving high, sustained and sustainable growth. There are no silver bullets. There is a whole checklist of things that have to be right, such as investment climate, infrastructure, education, macroeconomic balances, good governance, etc. But a solution could be cluster initiative policies or cluster-based policies that could be built from the bottom up, even if some of the factors on the competitiveness checklist are not 100% right,” he explained.

He indicated that clusters are a specific form of public-private partnership that creates a space of governance where all relevant players collaborate to promote competitiveness, job creation, innovation, skills, financing and remove obstacles for the growth of the cluster, sector or agglomeration. The most successful clusters are led by the private sector, with close cooperation of government agencies and educational and training institutions.

“The countries of Latin America and the Caribbean should embrace cluster-based approaches and scale them up in their productive development policies. In this sense, we want to turn ECLAC into a Center of Excellence in Knowledge on cluster policies, among other themes,” specified the organization’s Executive Secretary.

Jos? Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs was one of the key speakers at the WEF session on Enabling an Equitable Transition, held on Thursday, January 19, alongside distinguished panelists who addressed paths for incorporating equality and justice in the transition toward greener, more equitable and inclusive economies.

On this occasion, he emphasized the need to speed up the pace of economic transformations in the region, saying that economic changes, whether induced by trade and globalization, the technology revolution, or by green growth and the big environmental push, are a process of “creative destruction” or structural change where there are sectors, workers and territories that win, and others that lose. And he pointed out that the big public policy challenge to promote a fair and equitable transition is in making the creative aspects of the change come before the destructive aspects, in terms of unemployment and the obsolescence of existing productive capacities.

He added that one of the fundamental aspects for there to be a fair and equitable transition is having major investment in education and training. “One of the greatest restrictions for making the transition toward what’s new is not having the talent and competencies that the new sectors of the future demand,” he said. In addition, he recommended bolstering the active labor market policies to help displaced workers find new employment opportunities through training, re-training and labor reinsertion policies.

Furthermore, in a special column published on the 2023 World Economic Forum Annual Meeting blog, ECLAC’s Executive Secretary addressed how to reverse the cycle of slow growth Latin America and the Caribbean is experiencing. In the article, Salazar-Xirinachs says that average growth for the countries of the region will be 1.3% in 2023, reflecting a structural trap of low growth, elevated inequality, weak institutions and bad governance, combined with adverse international conditions. For this reason, “policy priorities should focus on reactivating job markets, curbing the rising cost of living, improving tax collection and sheltering vulnerable groups, and investing in well-designed social policies and universal health,” he indicated in the article.

Likewise, during his time in Davos, the ECLAC senior official held numerous bilateral meetings with figures from government, international organizations and institutions, and representatives from the public and private sectors, including: Michael Frohman, Vice Chairman and President, Strategic Growth, Mastercard; Rebeca Grynspan, Secretary-General of UNCTAD; Janio Rosales, Minister of Economy of Guatemala; Andr?s Velasco, Dean of the School of Public Policy, London School of Economics; Mathias Cormann, Secretary-General of the OECD; Jos? Antonio Ocampo, Minister of Finance of Colombia; Gabriela Bucher, Executive Director, OXFAM International; David Herranz, Senior Vice President, Manpower Europe, Manpower Group; Lars-Hendrik R?ller, President, Berlin Global Dialogue and Pamela Coke-Hamilton, Director, Geneva Center for International Trade.

St. Kitts and Nevis pushes forward with preparations for COP28

Dr. Joyelle Clarke.

The Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis continues to push forward with its plans and preparations for the 28th Session of the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), which will convene from November 30 to December 12 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

This was according to the Minister of Environment and Climate Action, the Honourable Dr. Joyelle Clarke during the Prime Minister’s Press Conference with Cabinet Ministers on January 18 at the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Conference Room.

“We are going to COP 28, and we have made a decision to expand our delegation. The Department of [Environment] has been working very closely with the New York Mission in terms of selecting persons. We have selected another young person who would be part of our Oasis Delegation, so they have one full year of training and development to lend to the Loss and Damage Conversation,” said Dr. Clarke. “We joined the regional conversation to identify focal points and regional heads to sit on the transitional committee for Loss and Damage and we supported delegates from Barbados and Suriname.”

Dr. Clarke said that the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis continues to work locally as a mandate from COP27 to “have what we call a mini-COP so that more young persons could join the needed conversation on Loss and Damage.” One of the successes coming out of COP27 in Egypt in 2022, was the establishment and operationalization of a Loss and Damage Fund which aims to provide financial assistance to nations most vulnerable and impacted by the effects of climate change.

Important to note, Dr. Clarke said that there is a need for people to be educated on environmental and climate matters.

“In the Prime Minister’s State Visit to Taiwan, one of the things that stood out is the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the fact that their mandate started with the preschoolers. We are now in conversation with the Ministry of Education, as well as the Department of Gender Affairs in terms of getting the students involved at the preschool level to understand the message of recycling, the 1.5 to stay alive, as well as bringing more young women onboard with our 1.5 to stay alive and Loss and Damage,” said the Environment Minister.

The “1.5 to stay alive” arose from a goal stipulated in the Paris Agreement to hold the global average temperature increase to 1.5? (degrees Celsius) above pre-industrial levels. The aim is to implement measures to reduce massive greenhouse gas emissions worldwide.

Caribbean Agency Delivers Swifter Justice in The Bahamas

Black Immigrant Daily News

The content originally appeared on: Caribbean News Service

Judicial officers in The Bahamas have taken major steps towards a more modern, technology-enabled system of administration.

A new agreement between the Bahamas Government and the Caribbean Agency for Justice Solutions will see the introduction of electronic filing and automated case management technology, making the dispensation of justice more efficient and effective for all users.

“As a judiciary, we are committed to ensure that there will always be full access to justice for our citizens, regardless of their need. In this way, we will ensure, as our advancements in technology progress, they will be available for all,” said Sir Ian Winder, Chief Justice of The Bahamas, speaking on January 11 at the ceremonial opening of the law term in Nassau.

The agreement was formalised on December 22, 2022. The Caribbean Agency for Justice Solutions (CAJS) is a regional organization dedicated to promoting access to justice, improving the quality of justice services.

The agency’s integrated e-filing and case management solution, called Curia, is currently deployed in the Bahamas Industrial Tribunal, and will next be deployed in the Supreme Court, the Magistrate’s Court and the Court of Appeal. It is expected to bring several additional benefits, including enhanced performance management for judicial administrators.

“The software is expected to have a transformative effect on our judicial system,” Sir Ian said.

Bevil Wooding, Executive Director of CAJS, expressed his commitment to supporting the judiciary and legal fraternity in The Bahamas, as in other judiciaries across the region.

“We look forward to strengthening our partnership with the Bahamian judiciary and deepening our ongoing collaboration.”

The agency has established a proven track record in several jurisdictions. Curia has already been deployed in the Courts of Barbados, Belize, Cayman Islands and the Caribbean Court of Justice. On January 5, the Turks and Caicos Islands judiciary initiated a Curia deployment project, to introduce the technology to all of its courts.
