President Dr Irfaan Ali today urged the participants of the National Toshaos Conference (NTC) to work together to identify issues within their communities and to come up with core plans to address them.

The Head of State made this call as he interacted with indigenous leaders on day three of the NTC at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre.

“Having reviewed every single thing that you have said so far, I will suggest to you a methodology for us to achieve some results. In this methodology, I want us to spend the rest of this afternoon defining some core issues and come up with some core plans that could come to accelerate your needs and accelerate the implementation of your ideas.”

The main aim, he emphasised, is for the participants to devise an action plan to accelerate the projects identified. These projects, with the agreement of the participants, have been grouped into nine categories, including food security and agriculture, women’s affairs, pensioners and the elderly, children and youth, human resources, facilities, services, economic activities and empowerment, and infrastructure.

“As leaders, that is what I want us to think about; what is it we want to achieve?”

President Ali tasked cabinet ministers and their technical teams to work along with the indigenous leaders and community representatives to identify their needs in these areas and to present their plans for discussions before the end of the day.

The President also pointed to the importance of monitoring and evaluating projects in hinterland communities and announced that a team would be set up to oversee the implementation of needed projects. The aim, he emphasised, is to ensure that indigenous communities have equal developmental opportunities.

The NTC is being held this week under the theme “Good Governance and Fast-Tracking Amerindian Development”. It brings together indigenous leaders from over 200 Amerindian communities across the country.

Una superluna llena conocida como ‘Luna del Ciervo’ o ‘Luna de Trueno’ iluminará el cielo de nuestro planeta este miércoles, alcanzado su punto máximo de brillo a las 18:37 GMT.

Los aficionados a la astronomía deberán mirar hacia el sureste después de la puesta de sol para ver cómo se eleva en el cielo.

Las superlunas se definen como cualquier luna llena situada a una distancia de al menos el 90 % del perigeo, es decir, el punto en el que la luna está más cerca de la Tierra. La ‘Luna del Ciervo’ orbitará más cerca de nuestro planeta que cualquier otra luna llena de este año –estará a 357.418 kilómetros de la Tierra–, lo que la convertirá en la mayor y más brillante superluna del 2022.

¿Cómo ver la superluna llena?

Dado que las lunas llenas dominan el cielo nocturno y ocultan los objetos más tenues, es un buen momento para centrar los esfuerzos de observación usando los propios ojos, prismáticos o un telescopio para examinar las características lunares.

A simple vista, este miércoles se podrán ver las tierras altas y bajas de la superficie lunar, que pueden adoptar ciertas formas con significados culturales. Con unos prismáticos o un telescopio, se podrán apreciar detalles de los cráteres, montañas, crestas y otras formaciones.

Por otra parte, también se podrá observar a nuestro satélite natural en una transmisión en vivo a las 19:00 GMT a través del sitio del Proyecto de Telescopio Virtual.

¿A qué se debe su nombre?

Según distintas tradiciones de los nativos norteamericanos, julio suele ser el mes en el que la nueva cornamenta de los ciervos emerge de su frente con una capa de piel aterciopelada, de ahí uno de los nombres de esta superluna. Mientras, el nombre ‘Luna de Trueno’ se debe a las frecuentes tormentas eléctricas que ocurren durante este cálido y seco mes del verano boreal.

Today Wednesday July 13, 2022 the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs reports a total of 66 new cases of COVID-19 from samples processed on Monday July 11, 2022 and Tuesday July 12, 2022.

This is from a total of 302 samples, of which 288 samples are from the Ezra Long Laboratory and 14 samples from the Laboratory Services and Consultations Limited.

These samples were collected from July 8, 2022 to July 11, 2022. This number of positive cases makes up 21.9% of all the samples processed. These new cases bring the total number of cases diagnosed in country to date to 27, 408.

Confirmation was also received of the recovery of 32 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19. This brings the number of active cases in country to date to 173. Currently, there are six positive case of COVID-19 admitted at the Respiratory Hospital.

To date, a total of 54, 436 individuals have been fully vaccinated. Another 5, 276 are partially vaccinated and 7, 665 have received their booster shot.

Vaccination will take place tomorrow Thursday July 14, 2022 at various Wellness Centres as per the published COVID-19 vaccination schedule. Vaccination will be available from 9am to 4pm.

The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs will continue providing daily updates to the public as new information becomes available.
